Dios Usa al Humilde

 

“Ahora bien, Dios había hecho que el jefe del Estado Mayor le tuviera respeto y afecto a Daniel”.  Daniel 1:9 (NTV)

Dios usa personas humildes. Cuando Daniel le dijo al rey Nabucodonosor que no comería comida babilónica, el joven hebreo pudo haber actuado con desafío y antipatía.

En cambio, Daniel eligió actuar con respeto. Cuando no podía hacer lo que el rey le pedía que hiciera, simplemente lo dijo. Va en contra de mis valores. Hacerlo es moralmente malo para mí. Él mostró gran tacto pero con autoridad y mostró gran humildad en el proceso.

Daniel se dio cuenta de que Dios había permitido que este líder pagano tuviera autoridad sobre él. Sabía que el rey Nabucodonosor no era un hombre temeroso de Dios, pero también sabía que Dios le permitía ser su jefe.

Algunos de ustedes también tienen jefes malos. Entiende esto, aunque: Dios los ha permitido en tu vida. En algún momento de tu vida, tendrás un momento en que un mal jefe te pedirá que hagas algo anti-ético o inmoral. Tendrás que saber cómo hacer una apelación respetuosa.

Daniel nos proporciona un gran modelo.

La Biblia dice de Daniel: “Le pidió permiso al jefe del Estado Mayor para no comer estos alimentos inaceptables” Daniel 1:8b (NTV).

Daniel no exigió. No se rebeló. Él pidió permiso. Él preguntó: “¿Puedo estar exento de esto?”.

La Biblia dice: “Ahora bien, Dios había hecho que el jefe del Estado Mayor le tuviera respeto y afecto a Daniel” Daniel 1:9 (NTV).

El mundo nos motiva a demostrar agresividad cuando somos agraviados. Dios nos insta a mostrar respeto.

Y siempre podemos saber que Dios está buscando nuestros mejores intereses.

Gather Your Team for Spiritual Growth

If you want to go the distance in your relationship with Jesus, don’t run the marathon on your own. No one can run the race for you, but other people can—and should—run the race with you.

You’ll give up without support.

You don’t need 100 people with you. You don’t even need 10. You just need three or four people running with you, supporting you in all God wants to do through your life.

The Bible tells us, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV).

That’s why you need to be in a small group. You need people who can spur you on in your spiritual life. And you need to be able to spur on others.

When you’re in a small group where you’re loved and accepted by others, they’ll give you the courage to keep going in your spiritual journey. They will pray for you when you don’t even know how to pray for yourself. They’ll help you persevere in your race.

Do whatever it takes to find a group of people committed to that kind of friendship and support.

It could mean the difference between finishing the race and quitting.

Want to Be Like Jesus? Spend Time with Him

You’ve likely heard this old cliché: “You can’t soar with the eagles if you’re running with the turkeys.”

That’s a great lesson for your kids to remember, but it has ramifications for our spiritual lives as well.

You should invest less time in certain relationships because they’ll drag you down. If you hang out with people who have no ambition, you’ll have no ambition. If you hang out with critical people, you’ll become critical. The people you spend the most time around will influence what you’re like on a day-to-day basis.

The Bible tells us this about our spiritual growth: “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith” (Hebrews 12:2 NLT).

That’s why it’s so important to spend time with Jesus every day. Your spiritual growth depends upon it. You become more like Jesus when you spend time with him.

I highly recommend finding a special spot where you can spend time with God each day. Start with five, 10, or 15 minutes a day. It doesn’t matter when you do it—just do it! Grab your Bible, find your favorite chair, read for a few minutes, and then talk to God about what’s going on in your life.

Even Jesus made a habit of going to a place where he could talk with his heavenly Father. Luke 22:39 describes him going to the Mount of Olives to pray “as usual” (NIV).

If Jesus made it a point to spend time with his Father, won’t that habit benefit you, too? It’s the only way you’ll really start to become more like him.

Permanezcan Firmes en la Fe

 

“Estén alerta. Permanezcan firmes en la fe. Sean valientes. Sean fuertes”. 1 Corintios 16:13 (NTV)

En toda la Escritura vas a ver esto: Dios usa personas que muestran valor, que se ponen de pie cuando todos los demás están sentados.

Mira a Daniel. Daniel es una de las dos únicas personas en la historia a quienes Dios revela cómo va a terminar el mundo (el otro es el apóstol Juan). Dios usó a Daniel como a pocos hombres en la historia de la humanidad.

Pero antes de que Dios lo usara para cambiar el mundo, Daniel se puso de pie ante el hombre más poderoso de la época. Cuando el rey Nabucodonosor le dio su comida babilónica, Daniel le dijo que no. Piensa en esto —él rechazó al rey diciéndole: “Lo siento, rey. Tu comida no es suficientemente buena para mí. No puedo comerla”. Daniel fue respetuoso pero firme al no ceder en esto.

Estoy seguro de que hubo muchos otros jóvenes judíos que fueron llevados cautivos y que no vieron problema alguno para comer la comida del rey. Estoy seguro de que dijeron: “¡Todos lo están haciendo!”.

Pero Daniel dijo: “No me importa si todo el mundo come la comida del rey. No es correcto. No lo voy a hacer”.

Daniel se puso en pie con valor. Estuvo dispuesto a permanecer solo. La historia nos ha demostrado que casi siempre la mayoría está equivocada. Solo porque la mayoría guste de un valor en particular o apruebe una ley, no implica que tal valor o ley son correctos.

Solo Dios decide qué es verdadero, no nosotros. Solo Dios determina qué está bien y qué está mal. Esto no se decide por mayoría de votos.

La Biblia dice: “Estén alerta. Permanezcan firmes en la fe. Sean valientes. Sean fuertes” 1 Corintios 16:13 (NTV).

En nuestros días necesitamos personas de valor que se pongan en pie frente al mal en una cultura que está poniendo lo malo como bueno y las tinieblas como luz. Y porque Dios nos llama a hacerlo, él te apoyará y recompensará cuando permaneces firme para él.

Take Baby Steps to Spiritual Maturity

It’s no accident that the Bible routinely refers to the Christian life as a race. Just like in a long-distance race, you must be patient to grow as a Christian. The Bible says, “Let us run with patience the particular race that God has set before us” (Hebrews 12:1 TLB).

You won’t finish this race in a week, a month, or even a year—it will take your whole life. God’s plan for making you into the person he wants you to be requires a lifetime commitment.

You can’t short-circuit that kind of growth.

When you become a Christian, you start growing quickly. It’s like babies in the early months—they grow enormously fast during that first year. But you don’t continue growing as quickly the rest of your life.

Growth—both physical and spiritual—slows down. It’s stable and secure over a period of time. God isn’t in a hurry for you to grow. You might be, but he isn’t.

This is why you need to start with simple steps toward growth. If you take one or two baby steps every week, you’ll be much further down the road of growth at the end of the year than you would be otherwise.

Christian living isn’t one big leap across the Grand Canyon. It’s a journey of baby steps—one step at a time.

La Disciplina Divina conduce al Éxito

 

“No dejen que ninguna parte de su cuerpo se convierta en un instrumento del mal para servir al pecado. En cambio, entréguense completamente a Dios . . . como un instrumento para hacer lo que es correcto para la gloria de Dios”. Romanos 6:13 (NTV)

Daniel tenía una decisión que tomar: Comer la comida del rey, o controlar su ego y su apetito.

Escogió lo segundo.

Muchos adolescentes no tomarían tal decisión. Piensa en esto. Tienes 15 años de edad, y has sido sacado a la fuerza de tu país. Nunca volverás a ver a tus padres. Estás en un país extraño sin supervisión ni protección parental. Entonces, el hombre más poderoso de ese país te ofrece todo tipo de beneficios y ventajas y te dice: “Vas a ser parte de mi equipo personal. Te voy a dar poder, prestigio y placer. Vas a tener lo mejor de todo”.

¿Podrías rechazar eso?

Considera lo que a veces vemos en el deporte. Hay muchachos que son excelentes en básquetbol, fútbol o béisbol. Luego son reclutados en las ligas profesionales y reciben toneladas de dinero. Se les da todo tipo de beneficios y ventajas, pero no pueden manejar tal grado de éxito. Muchachos buenos y sanos pueden ser arruinados por demasiado éxito, tan rápido.

Fácilmente esta pudo haber sido la historia de Daniel, pero no lo fue. Él fue un muchacho increíblemente disciplinado, aun estando aislado de sus padres. Daniel reflejó lo que Pablo llegó a escribir cientos de años después en Romanos 6:13: “No dejen que ninguna parte de su cuerpo se convierta en un instrumento del mal para servir al pecado. En cambio, entréguense completamente a Dios… como un instrumento para hacer lo que es correcto para la gloria de Dios” (NTV).

Para Daniel, la falta de disciplina personal podría significar perder el perfecto plan de Dios para su vida. Y él no quiso tal cosa.

Entonces, dijo al hombre más poderoso del mundo: “Nabucodonosor, voy a servirte porque Dios me puso aquí. No estoy aquí sin su permiso, por lo tanto, te serviré a ti, que eres un rey pagano. Pero no voy a estar en deuda contigo ni a conformarme a tu medida. Puedes darme todas esas ventajas y privilegios, pero no soy tú y jamás voy a olvidarlo. No soy uno de los tuyos. Soy judío. No soy babilonio”.

Esto es madurez — y disciplina, particularmente para un jovencito de 15 años. Cuando somos disciplinados y obedientes y seguimos la voluntad de Dios, seremos exitosos a los ojos del Señor.

No Se Conformen; Transfórmense

 

“No se conformen a este mundo; más bien, transfórmense por la renovación de su entendimiento de modo que comprueben cuál sea la voluntad de Dios, buena, agradable y perfecta”. Romanos 12:2 (RVA2015)

Tienes dos elecciones en la vida: te conformas o te transformas.

No hay punto intermedio.

Pregúntale a Daniel.

Daniel enfrentó una decisión, o tomaba la comida del Rey y se conformaba a las formas del Imperio Babilonio, o se negaba a profanar su cuerpo y permanecer firme en sus valores.

Daniel se mantuvo firme. Él nunca olvidó quien era. Él dijo, “Puedes cambiar mi domicilio. Puedes cambiar mi ropa. Puedes cambiar mi nombre. Pero no vas a cambiar mi corazón. No me conformaré a las costumbres de esta sociedad”.

Muchos de nosotros hemos elegido una diferente elección de lo que hizo Daniel. En lugar de mantenernos en nuestros valores, vivimos como cualquier otro. Nos conformamos.

Pero la Biblia nos recuerda, “No se conformen a este mundo; más bien, transfórmense por la renovación de su entendimiento de modo que comprueben cuál sea la voluntad de Dios, buena, agradable y perfecta” Romanos 12:2 (RVA2015).

Hablo con personas todo el tiempo quienes no encuentran lo que Dios quiere que hagan con sus vidas, debido a que están conformados al mundo. Están más interesados en ser como todos los demás que en ser la persona única que Dios quiere que sean. Mientras te sigas preocupando sobre conformarte, no te preocuparás de que Dios te transforme. Y en ese caso, no conocerás la voluntad de Dios.

Pero si haces la decisión que hizo Daniel y eliges lo mejor de Dios para tu vida, Él te transformará. Entonces conocerás la voluntad de Dios.

The Key to Improving Your Relationships

Do you want to know the key to better relationships in life?

You must learn to serve.

The root of most relational problems is self-centeredness. You must deal with other issues, but the root is almost always self-centeredness. We want what we want, when we want it. Neither person will budge—and that causes conflict.

That’s why you need to step out of your own perspective and learn to serve others. Serving other people changes you, and it changes your relationships along the way.

One of God’s greatest lessons he wants you to learn while you’re on this planet is how to be unselfish. It’s a lifelong course of study. Unfortunately, so many people go a whole lifetime without learning it.

You can choose to live differently, though. You can learn to be unselfish. How? It’s simple, really: You copy Jesus.

Jesus says it like this: “Your attitude must be like my own, for I, the Messiah, did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give my life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28 TLB).

Next time you read about the life of Jesus in the Bible, notice how he dealt with others. Watch how he always put others before himself. When you imitate his attitude, you live your life not for your benefit but for the benefit of others. Jesus consistently showed this throughout the Gospels.

Learn to do that and you’ll improve your relationships. You’ll not only become more like Jesus, but you’ll also become more respected and loved by your friends. People want to be around those who are constantly trying to serve others and not just furthering their own agenda.

Don’t try to be interesting; be interested. Be interested in others. If you do that, people will think you’re the greatest person in the world. Most people are only interested in themselves. When you’re interested in them, they will value you—and maybe even consider you the greatest conversationalist who ever lived.

The Bible says of serving unselfishly, “If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God, and others will approve of you, too” (Romans 14:18 NLT).

Unselfishness will transform your relationships.

Two Steps to Handle Temptation

If you want to be able to handle temptation, you need to claim the promises of God that he has given in his Word about temptation. Everybody ought to memorize 1 Corinthians 10:13: “God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it” (NIV).

I’ve had many people tell me, “I couldn’t help myself. It was impossible to resist. I had no choice but to give in.” When you say that, you’re calling God a liar! God says he’ll always offer an escape from the temptation you face. It may be tough and painful. It might even be embarrassing. But there will always be a way out. God makes sure of it! That is his promise.

Satan is constantly battling for your mind. That’s where the battle happens. When God gives us an idea, it’s inspiration. When the Devil gives us an idea, it’s temptation. You choose every day which thought you’re going to dwell on.

You can change your mind by replacing the temptation with truth, and truth is found in the Bible.

The Bible says to resist the Devil. How do you do that? By preparing for the temptation. Ephesians 6:17 says, “Accept God’s salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (NCV).

There are two things you need to do in order to handle temptation. Salvation is the first step: “Accept God’s salvation as your helmet.” What does a helmet do? It protects your head and your mind, and that’s where the battle is going on. Before you can say no to the Devil, you have to learn to say yes to Jesus Christ. You’ve got to have his power through salvation.

The second step is to receive God’s Word to use as a sword. Truth is the antidote to temptation. You can keep your Bible on the coffee table at home, but when you’re at work and you are tempted, what good is it going to do you? No good at all! You need to get the truth that is in that book into your mind.

Without a doubt, the single most effective tool to combating temptation is to memorize Scripture. If you don’t have any verses memorized, you’ve got no weapon for the fight! When the Devil comes along, how are you going to counter him? He’s not afraid of your opinion, but he does fear the truth. The sword of God is God’s truth, but it only becomes a weapon when you memorize it.

Tu Creencia Libera el Poder de Dios

 

“Para los hombres eso es imposible, pero para Dios todo es posible”. Mateo 19:26 (NBLH)

Para Dios todo es posible.

“Para los hombres eso es imposible, pero para Dios todo es posible” Mateo 19:26 (NBLH).

¿Por qué la iglesia de Saddleback puso en marcha el plan P.E.A.C.E.? ¿Qué nos hace pensar que podríamos llevar cientos de miles de otras iglesias para combatir los cinco problemas más grandes en el planeta? La respuesta es que tenemos un Dios grande. La gente dice: “¿Quién te crees que eres?” Pregunta equivocada. La pregunta es: “¿Quién creemos que Dios es?” Mi Dios puede hacer cualquier cosa.

Jesús dijo: “Que se haga con ustedes conforme a su fe” Mateo 9:29 (NVI).

Dios quiere usarte. Él quiere bendecirte, quiere hacer cosas asombrosas en tu vida. Él quiere que tú seas una persona que cambie el mundo. Pero Él está esperando que tú confíes en Él. Tienes que dejar de decir: “no puedo”, “no puedo hacer que este matrimonio funcione”, “no puedo hacer lo que Dios quiere que haga”. ¡Eso es una mentira! Todas las cosas son posibles para Dios.

Efesios 3:20 dice: “Y ahora, que toda la gloria sea para Dios, quien puede lograr mucho más de lo que pudiéramos pedir o incluso imaginar mediante su gran poder, que actúa en nosotros” (NTV). Es por eso que te he retado a través de estos devocionales, porque sé que tienes un enorme potencial —mucho más allá de lo que nunca imaginaste. Dios te quiere usar y conforme a tu fe se hará en ti.

¿Sabes lo que se opone a tu fe? No es la gente, no es la crítica, ni siquiera es el diablo. Es tu propia incredulidad. Tú eres el mayor problema en tu propia vida. ¿Por qué no crees más a Dios? ¿Por qué no confías más en Él? Es tu decisión. Hay un montón de cosas sobre las cuales tú no tienes control, pero puedes elegir creer en Dios.

¿Quieres que Dios haga grandes cosas en tu vida? Entonces empieza a creer.
