God Tests Your Faith through Difficulties

Do you ever have days when nothing seems to go right?

I once heard about a guy whose apartment was flooded from a broken pipe in the upstairs apartment. His manager said to go rent a water vacuum, but he couldn’t—his car had a flat tire. He changed it and went inside again to phone a friend but got an electric shock from the phone. That startled him and he unintentionally ripped the phone off the wall. During that time, the water damage had jammed the door to his apartment, so a neighbor had to kick down the apartment door. While all this was going on, somebody stole the guy’s car—but it was almost out of gas. He found the car a few blocks away and had to push it to a gas station to fill up the tank. When he got back home, he discovered that four of his canaries had been crushed to death by falling plaster in his apartment. After slipping on the wet carpet and badly injuring his tailbone, this guy began to wonder if “God wanted me dead but kept missing.”

Even if you’ve never had a day quite that bad, you’ve likely discovered that life is full of problems, pressures, and stresses.

Did you know that the Bible says we shouldn’t be surprised by life’s problems? It says, “You are temporarily harassed by all kinds of trials and temptations. This is no accident—it happens to prove your faith” (1 Peter 1:6-7 PHILLIPS).

If you are a believer, nothing comes into your life by accident. Everything is Father-filtered. The Bible doesn’t say everything’s good. But as Romans 8:28 says, “God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (NLT)—even the difficulties, the irritations, and the interruptions. They all have a purpose.

We don’t usually realize it when we’re in the situation and may not want to admit it afterward, but every problem has a greater purpose: God does it to prove our faith.

So how does God want you to respond to difficulties? James 1:2-3 says, “Consider yourselves fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for you know that when your faith succeeds in facing such trials, the result is the ability to endure” (GNT).

God uses difficulties to test your faith, and you increase in faith when you rejoice continually and keep a positive attitude in spite of things not going right.

When you remain grateful and positive and continue trusting God even in the middle of difficulties, your faith is stretched.

Dios puede Usar tus Pruebas para Liberarte

“Dejaste que un cualquiera nos pisoteara; hemos pasado a través de agua y fuego, pero al fin nos has dado respiro”.  Salmos 66:12 (DHH)

Te enfrentarás a pruebas en la vida, no hay duda de eso.

Pero Dios las usará para liberarte.

De hecho, a veces lo que otros esperan que te esclavice, Dios usará para liberarte.

Él las usará para liberarte de las expectativas y opiniones de los demás.

La Biblia lo dice así: “Dejaste que un cualquiera nos pisoteara; hemos pasado a través de agua y fuego, pero al fin nos has dado respiro” Salmos 66:12 (DHH).

Dios quiere que seas libre. La Biblia dice que la verdad te hará libre. Pero la verdad a menudo viene con un alto costo.

Hace cuatro años murió mi hijo menor. Es posible que hayas escuchado la historia. Él había luchado con su salud mental toda la vida. Tenía una mente agitada pero un corazón tierno.

El día en que se quitó la vida fue el peor día de mi vida. Nunca lo olvidaré.

Pero para empeorar las cosas, Satanás trató de aprovecharse de todo eso. Los críticos salieron con toda su fuerza, diciendo cosas horribles sobre mi familia. Lo podías ver en la televisión, en revistas y en las redes sociales. Celebraron y se rieron de su muerte. Fue muy cruel, público y constante. Pensé que estaba pasando por el infierno.

Pero Dios caminó conmigo en cada paso del camino. Durante ese tiempo, alguien me preguntó cómo estaba y respondí: “Honestamente, me siento valiente”.

No tuve miedo, me mantenía pensando todo el tiempo: “Satanás, ¿esto es todo lo que puedes arrojarme? ¿esos críticos es lo mejor que tienes?”.

Ya no tengo miedo de nada. Estoy viviendo para la audiencia de uno. A veces, Dios usa tiempos difíciles para liberarte de una adicción a la aprobación de otras personas. Simplemente no lo necesitas para ser feliz.

Se Más como Jesús

“Te he refinado, pero no como se refina la plata; más bien te he refinado en el horno del sufrimiento”.   Isaías 48:10 (NTV)

A nadie le gusta los momentos en los que el estrés aumenta, los plazos aumentan y las expectativas parecen inalcanzables.

Pero a veces Dios usa el calor en tu vida para quemar las cosas que te atan.

Solo necesitas confiar en Dios a través del dolor.

¿Qué te tiene atado? ¿Qué te está limitando a ser todo lo que Dios quiere que seas?

Dios puede usar las pruebas en tu vida para eliminar lo que te detiene.

Dios dice en Isaías 48:10, “Te he refinado, pero no como se refina la plata; más bien te he refinado en el horno del sufrimiento” (NTV).

Es muy poco probable que literalmente pases por un horno ardiente en tu vida, pero pasarás muchas veces por el horno del sufrimiento. Dios te refinará con ese fuego.

Es como la plata y el oro. Cuando se calientan, se deshacen de las impurezas. Entonces te quedas con el 100 por ciento de oro o el 100 por ciento de plata.

Si le preguntas a un orfebre o joyero cómo puede determinar cuándo la plata es pura, te dirá que se determina cuando puedes ver tu reflejo en el caldero.

Dios sabe que estás purificado cuando puede ver su propio reflejo en ti. Te ves más como Cristo.

El fuego es el que hace eso.

Faithful People Are Persistent People

People of faith simply don’t know how to quit. They never give up. They keep on keeping on. They understand that faith means having persistence.

If you want to be a person of faith, then you have a choice: When you don’t see God’s answer to your prayer right away, you can just wait or you can be persistent. One choice is passive; the other is active. While you wait, you continue working. You don’t give up, even though you don’t see the answer. You keep working at the marriage, you keep working at the job, you keep believing that there’s going to be a breakthrough. You don’t give up!

Noah was an amazing man of faith. God told him to build an ark because there would be a flood. It must have been difficult to bear ridicule for building a boat in the middle of the desert, with no idea how God was going to get water to it. It took Noah 120 years to build the ark. That’s a long time to wait! It’s a long time to trust, especially when everyone thinks you’re crazy.

But Noah persevered. He was persistent, and he stayed faithful to the task God had given him.

Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (NIV).

Don’t give up! Be persistent in your purpose. Become a faithful person so God can use you to do what seems impossible to everyone else.

Dios Camina Contigo a través del Fuego

“Cuando cruces las aguas, yo estaré contigo; cuando cruces los ríos, no te cubrirán sus aguas; cuando camines por el fuego, no te quemarás ni te abrasarán las llamas”. Isaías 43:2 (NVI)

El fuego está encendido.

A nadie le gusta ese sentimiento. Ocurre cuando la presión aumenta, cuando los plazos se acercan y cuando las expectativas se intensifican.

Daniel tuvo tres amigos que experimentaron el calor en ellos, tanto en sentido figurado como literal, en Daniel 3.

Cuando los amigos de Daniel no se inclinaron en adorar a una estatua del rey Nabucodonosor, el rey con enojo hizo que sus hombres los arrojaran al fuego y subieran el calor siete veces más.

Literalmente, el fuego estaba encendido.

Pero Dios caminó con ellos a través del fuego.

La Biblia dice: “Entonces el rey Nabucodonosor se levantó de un salto, asombrado, y preguntó a sus consejeros: ‘¿No hay tres hombres que atamos y arrojamos al fuego?’. Respondieron: ‘Ciertamente, Su Majestad’. Dijo: ‘¡Mira! Veo a cuatro hombres caminando por el fuego, sin ataduras y sin daños, y el cuarto parece un hijo de los dioses” Daniel 3:24-25 (NVI).

Por supuesto, tú y yo sabemos que no era “un hijo de los dioses” con ellos. Fue Jesús, el único Hijo de Dios. Él caminaba por el fuego con ellos.

Y Él también camina contigo a través del fuego.

Jesús nos dice: “Y ciertamente estoy contigo siempre, hasta el fin de los tiempos” Mateo 28: 20b (NVI).

La Biblia nos dice que nunca estarás solo. Dios siempre estará allí contigo y por ti.

En Isaías 43:2 Dios dice: “Cuando cruces las aguas, yo estaré contigo; cuando cruces los ríos, no te cubrirán sus aguas; cuando camines por el fuego, no te quemarás ni te abrasarán las llamas” (NVI).

Fíjate que la Biblia no dice si cruzas por las aguas; dice cuando cruces las aguas.

Tendrás problemas. Pero Jesús siempre caminará contigo a través de ellos.

When God’s Instructions Don’t Make Sense, Obey Anyway

Faith is following God’s instructions, even when they don’t make sense, even when they don’t seem logical or rational. Faith means being obedient.

One of the best examples of this in the Bible is Abraham: “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going” (Hebrews 11:8 NIV).

Imagine God coming to Abraham one day, tapping him on the shoulder, and saying, “Abraham, we’re moving!”

Abraham says, “Great! Where are we going?”

“You don’t need to know.”

“How soon do we leave?”

“Right now!”

“What’s it going to be like?”

“Milk and honey!”

“Great! That’s really descriptive. How will I know when I get there?”

“I’ll let you know.”

“How long is it going to take?”

“Don’t worry!”

“Okay. I’ll go home and start packing!”

That took faith. Abraham followed God’s instructions, even when it meant uprooting his family for the unknown, even when it didn’t make any sense to him.

Has God ever asked you to do something that didn’t make sense? When he does, don’t ask questions—just do it!

Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (NIV).

Trust in God’s wisdom, not your own. When you obey even when you don’t understand, you will grow in faith and spiritual maturity.

Waiting Is Evidence of Faith

One of the most obvious evidences of faith is how you respond to the waiting rooms of life.

How long can you wait? That’s a mark of maturity. Children, of course, have a hard time waiting. They have not learned the difference between “No” and “Not yet.” If you tell them “Not yet,” they think that means it’s not going to happen. But as we get older, we learn that’s not the case.

Spiritual maturity is the ability to wait. Faith is waiting for the answer, understanding that sometimes the answer is delayed.

In God’s plan, timing is so crucial. Many times it may be the right thing, but it’s just the wrong time. You don’t want to get behind God, and you don’t want to get ahead of God. You want to be just in his time, because God’s timing is perfect in your job, in your marriage, in your education, in your retirement, in an answer to prayer—in every area of your life.

Look at Scripture and see how many times the Israelites had to wait on God. While they waited, God was preparing them. The children of Israel waited to be set free from slavery in Egypt for 400 years. That’s a long time in anybody’s book! Even when Moses came on the scene, the people had to wait another 80 years—40 years for him to grow up in Pharaoh’s palace and another 40 years for him to go to the backside of the desert to be trained. Moses came back at 80 years of age and finally led the people out of Egypt. God’s timing is perfect!

Psalm 40:1 says, “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry” (NIV).

How you respond to the waiting rooms of life is evidence of your faith.

Dale el Crédito a Dios y Dirige las Personas hacia Él

 

“No hay sabios, brujos, magos ni adivinos que puedan dar a conocer el secreto del rey; pero hay un Dios en el cielo, quien revela secretos y le ha dado a conocer al rey Nabucodonosor lo que ocurrirá en el futuro. Ahora le diré lo que soñó y las visiones que vio mientras estaba acostado en su cama”.   Daniel 2:27-28 (NTV)

En algunos de los últimos días en estos devocionales, te he mostrado lo que Daniel hizo cuando enfrentó una situación en el capítulo 2. El Rey tuvo que preguntarle a él la interpretación de un sueño complicado. Este casi logra dar muerte a todos los hombres sabios del rey, porque ellos no pudieron explicar lo que el sueño significaba.

¡Los riesgos fueron altos! Pero Daniel siguió un proceso excepcional que puede ayudarnos a nosotros también.

No entres en pánico, y luego pregunta el por qué.
Pide más tiempo.
Reúne amigos en oración.
Ora por la ayuda de Dios.
Pide a Dios por un milagro
Alaba a Dios
Usa lo que has aprendido para salvar a otros.

Y Dios se reveló. Entonces Daniel usó esta oportunidad para llevar a otros hacia Dios.

La Biblia dice que Daniel le dijo al Rey: “No hay sabios, brujos, magos ni adivinos que puedan dar a conocer el secreto del rey; pero hay un Dios en el cielo, quien revela secretos y le ha dado a conocer al rey Nabucodonosor lo que ocurrirá en el futuro. Daniel no tomó el crédito por la respuesta extraordinaria al sueño del rey. Él sabía que Dios le había dado la respuesta. Así que él fue honesto sobre eso.

Yo no sé acerca de ti, pero si yo fuera un muchacho de 17 años y hago algo que hace al rey feliz, estaría tentado a tomar un poco del crédito. Daniel oró. Él escuchó. Él obedeció.

¿No pudo él tomar un poco del crédito?

No lo hizo. En cambio, él dirigió las personas hacia Dios.

Haz esto y Dios te bendecirá. Dios hará grandes cosas a través de una persona quien no le importa quien tome el crédito.

Es un testigo audaz para Jesús. De esto es lo que se trata todo el evangelio.

Dios quiere que hagas eso en cada situación de tu vida —si estás en una cafetería, en una reunión, o en casa criando a un niño de 3 años.

Dios quiere que dirijas a otros hacia Él.

Lee un poco más adelante en Daniel 2 y puedes ver como esta historia termina.

La Biblia dice que el rey pagano le dijo a Daniel: “En verdad tu Dios es el más grande de todos los dioses, es el Señor de los reyes, y es quien revela los misterios, porque tú pudiste revelar este secreto” Daniel 2:47 (NTV).

¿Cómo te parece esto? Un líder pagano reconociendo al verdadero Creador del universo.

Cuando pasas tu vida guiando las personas hacia Dios, ocurren milagros.

¿Cómo ha sido impactada tu vida por la humilde respuesta de otros a la obra del Señor en sus vidas?

Ayuda a otros con lo que Dios te ha Enseñado

 

“Entonces Daniel fue a ver a Arioc, a quien el rey había ordenado ejecutar a los sabios de Babilonia. Daniel le dijo: ‘No mates a los sabios. Llévame ante el rey y le explicaré el significado de su sueño’”.  Daniel 2:24 (NTV)

Cuando te enfrentas a una demanda imposible, es fácil simplemente rendirse. Piensas que mejor tu jefe busque a otra persona. Piensas que tu esposa simplemente no te entiende. Piensas que tu profesor no es consciente de la cantidad de trabajos que te asignó.

¿Pero qué pasa si Dios tiene algo más en mente? ¿Qué pasa si Dios te puso en esa situación porque quiere que ayudes a alguien más?

Vemos esto en la historia de Daniel, sobre la que hemos estado hablado en los días pasados. Vemos que Daniel nos da un patrón importante para seguir cuando se nos pide una tarea imposible.

No entres en pánico, y luego pregunta el por qué.
Pide más tiempo.
Reúne amigos en oración.
Ora por la ayuda de Dios.
Pide a Dios por un milagro
Alaba a Dios

Luego, Daniel utiliza lo que Dios le mostró para salvar a otros. Dios salvó a Daniel de esta tarea imposible, pero no lo hizo solo por el bien de Daniel. Él quería que Daniel ayudara a otros.

La Biblia dice: “Entonces Daniel fue a ver a Arioc, a quien el rey había ordenado ejecutar a los sabios de Babilonia. Daniel le dijo: ‘No mates a los sabios. Llévame ante el rey y le explicaré el significado de su sueño’” Daniel 2:24 (NTV).

Dios le dio la respuesta al sueño del rey, pero Daniel no la reveló hasta asegurarse que los sabios estaban a salvo —¡los sabios de Babilonia!

Dios tampoco quiere salvarte solo a ti. Él quiere salvar a todos. Quiere salvar a tu familia. Quiere salvar a tus amigos. Pero también quiere salvar a tus oponentes y a tus enemigos. A Dios le importa cada una de las personas.

Y también debería importarnos a nosotros.

Por eso es que necesitamos seguir alcanzando a las personas con las buenas nuevas de Jesús. Dios quiere que cada uno conozca los propósitos que Él tiene para sus vidas. Dios quiere que todos lo conozcan.

Ese es tu testimonio. Esa es tu misión en el mundo.

How to Become a Godly Optimist

There are two kinds of people: those that wake up and say, “Good morning, Lord!” and those that wake up and say, “Good Lord—it’s morning!”

We tend to feel the way we expect to feel. We see what we expect to see. We hear what we expect to hear. We act the way we expect to act. We set ourselves up for failure or success—for fulfillment or frustration—depending on our level of faith.

Living by faith means expecting the best.

Matthew 9:29 says, “According to your faith let it be done to you” (NIV).

Faith is positive expectation. You expect God to answer. You expect the solution to come through. You expect things to work out. You expect to succeed. You expect it all to fall into place. Expectations are faith.

As Christians, we don’t believe that everything in life will turn out well, no matter how much faith we have. That’s just not a reality in a world full of sin. But we can be confident that God is working for our good. We can trust him with our future because he knows better than we do what is best for us—and he will help us become more like him.

Living by faith does not mean you wear rose-colored glasses. It means you trust that God is always working, so you can expect things to work out just as he intends them to. That can give you great confidence. That truth can build your faith.

To become a godly optimist, expect God to work in your life and in the world. Expect him to keep his promises. Expect that he wants to accomplish his will through you. And expect him to provide everything you need to do that.
