Don’t Get Tired of Doing the Right Thing

If things don’t happen right away or when you think they should, that doesn’t mean you should quit. You need to be diligent. You need to have endurance. You need to keep on.

The Bible says, “Let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up” (Galatians 6:9 TLB).

This Christmas, where do you feel like giving up? Maybe you feel like giving up on your marriage. It may seem like it’s just dead and going nowhere. Maybe you feel like giving up on your career. You’ve tried and tried and tried to make a difference, and it just isn’t happening. Maybe you feel like giving up on your dream or a goal. Maybe you feel like giving up on yourself.

But think about this. A thousand years before you were born, God knew you would be reading this today, and his message to you is simple: Don’t do it. Don’t give up.

Don’t ever give up. The tunnel seems incredibly dark right now, but there is always a light at the end. It may be just around the corner! You are known, you are loved, and you have a purpose. Don’t get tired of doing what is right. Don’t think what you’re doing doesn’t matter. Don’t think anyone would be better off without you. Those are lies from the mouth of the Devil himself. Remember what God has said about you. Remember that he wants to bless you.

Don’t give up. Look up. Look up to God. Find a spiritual family—a church and a small group—to help you through the tough times. Meditate on God’s Word for encouragement.

Never give up on God. He will never give up on you!

Don’t Just Read God’s Word. Study It!

While you’re waiting on God to fulfill a dream or answer a prayer, he wants you to focus on what he’s told you in his Word.

The Bible is God’s Word to you. Did you know that it contains thousands and thousands of promises? Can you name one of them? If you can’t, then how in the world can you claim the promise? If you have an insurance policy but you don’t know what it covers, then you won’t know what you can claim if you have an accident.

God’s Word is the policy on your life, and if you don’t ever read it, you don’t know what God has promised to do in your life. When you don’t know what God has offered to do if you’ll trust him, it’s inevitable that you’ll be stressed out and worried.

The Bible says in James 1:25, “If you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it” (NLT).

Do you want to be stressed, or do you want to be blessed?

The key to being blessed is to read, study, and remember God’s Word, and then you do what it says. The more you obey, the more you will be blessed.

“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow evil men’s advice, who do not hang around with sinners, scoffing at the things of God. But they delight in doing everything God wants them to, and day and night are always meditating on his laws and thinking about ways to follow him more closely. They are like trees along a riverbank bearing luscious fruit each season without fail. Their leaves shall never wither, and all they do shall prosper” (Psalm 1:1-3 TLB).

Hay una Diferencia entre Saber y Aprender

“Oh Belsasar, usted es el sucesor del rey y sabía todo esto, pero aun así no se ha humillado”. Daniel 5:22 (NTV)

Dios no te enseñará algo nuevo hasta que hayas puesto en práctica lo que ya te enseñó.

Dios no está en el negocio de simplemente satisfacer tu curiosidad. Él te dice algo y espera que actúes al respecto. Una vez que lo pongas en práctica, puedes avanzar al siguiente paso.

Ya ves, Dios quiere que apliques la verdad que has aprendido.

Y no has aprendido algo hasta que lo hayas hecho.

No es suficiente decirle a la gente que crees en la Biblia. Debes hacer lo que la Biblia enseña.

Si no haces lo que la Biblia enseña, realmente no crees en ella.

Eso es lo que vemos en la historia de Belsasar en el libro de Daniel. Perdió todo porque no puso en práctica lo que ya había aprendido.

Se negó con orgullo a aprender las lecciones que Dios le había enseñado a su abuelo. Su imperio cayó por eso.

La Biblia registra a Daniel diciéndole: “Oh Belsasar, usted es el sucesor del rey y sabía todo esto, pero aun así no se ha humillado” Daniel 5:22 (NTV).

Belsasar vio a Nabucodonosor literalmente perder la cabeza por siete años debido al orgullo. Vio todos los errores que su abuelo cometió. Vio a su abuelo regresar y corregir esas cosas. Él vio lo bueno y lo malo en la vida de Nabucodonosor, y eligió ignorar a Dios. Belsasar eligió ignorar las lecciones.

Entonces Dios le quitó su reino.

Belsasar lo sabía, pero no aprendió. Necesitamos entender la diferencia entre saber y aprender. Puedes saber muchas cosas, pero si no actúas con ellas, no has aprendido nada. Dios quiere que seamos hacedores de la Palabra, y eso significa que nos apoyará a medida que avanzamos en la fe, aplicando las cosas que nos enseñó a hacer.

Problems Prepare You for Eternity

You need more than positive thinking to survive in this world. You need hope.

And lasting hope is possible because God is preparing you for eternity.

God is using everything in your life—the good, the bad, and the ugly—to get you ready. When you understand this, life begins to make sense. You stop asking, “Lord, why is this happening?” because you know why.

The Bible says, “Be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world” (1 Peter 1:6-7 NLT).

Those verses describe several truths that are the same today as they were in Peter’s day.

Problems are temporary. They won’t last forever. But God is using those trials for his purposes.
Problems are necessary. They are an indispensable part of preparing you for heaven.
Problems are varied. You’ll experience trials of all different shapes, sizes, and levels of intensity.
Problems test your faith. You build muscles by testing them. The same is true with your faith.
Problems purify your motives. God is much more interested in your character than your comfort. He’ll use trials to refine your character.
Problems prepare you for your rewards. The trials you’re going through now don’t compare to the rewards of heaven.

No doubt, the troubles you’re experiencing now aren’t fun. But the Bible makes it clear they can result in something good. They’ll make your faith stronger.

That’s why you can have hope no matter what’s going on in your life right now.

God’s Power Always Protects You

God is watching over you every moment of the day, just like a bodyguard would. Everything in life is Father-filtered — even the hard things caused by your sin or others’ sin — God can still use for his good.

That means God’s power protects you: “And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation” (1 Peter 1:5 NLT).

When you find yourself in a situation where you feel hopeless, helpless, or powerless — that’s all a lie. You’re not hopeless, helpless, or powerless when you have God in your life.

Have you ever seen signs in front a house that says, “Protected by a security system”? Maybe we need a little sign to remind us, “Protected by God.”

The word “protect” in 1 Peter 1:5 means garrison. It is a military term that refers to sending soldiers to a town in order to protect it. They garrison the town, staying there to guard it. In the same way, you are continuously guarded by God.

All you have to do is, in faith, trust God is there with his protection.

Sé Humilde o Tropezarás

“El temor del Señor enseña sabiduría; la humildad precede a la honra”. Proverbios 15:33 (NTV)

Las personas sabias permanecen humildes. Humilde y aprendiz van de la mano. Se humilde o tropezarás.

La humildad comienza simplemente dándote cuenta que no eres Dios. Cuando te estresas, repítete a ti mismo; “Dios es Dios, y yo no lo soy. Dios es Dios, y yo no lo soy. Dios es Dios, y yo no lo soy”.

Eso es humildad. Si no te das cuenta que no eres Dios, no eres una persona humilde.

La Biblia dice, “Dios se opone a los orgullosos pero da gracia a los humildes” Santiago 4:6b (NTV).

¿Tienes como meta convertirte en una persona más sabia?

Conoce a Dios. Te volverás más sabio construyendo relaciones, administrando el dinero, afrontando conflictos, resolviendo problemas y tratando con todo tipo de retos en la vida.

La Biblia nos dice, El temor del Señor enseña sabiduría; la humildad precede a la honra” Proverbios 15:33 (NTV).

La humildad dice que puedes aprender de cualquiera. No lo sabes todo. Nadie lo sabe todo. Por esa razón debemos permanecer dispuestos a la enseñanza, humildes y aprendices para toda la vida.

God Has Already Written the Final Chapter of Your Life

No matter what happens for the rest of your life, if you have a relationship with Jesus, God guarantees your future. You will never be able to lose your salvation.

The Bible says, “Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay” (1 Peter 1:3-4 NLT).

An inheritance is what you’re given because you belong to a family. Usually it’s given to you at someone’s death.

Peter gives us five declarations that describe our inheritance in heaven:

Reserved: You need a reservation to get into heaven, and you can only make that reservation through Jesus. Once you put in your reservation, it can never be canceled.

Pure: Your inheritance isn’t fake. It’s the real deal.

Undefiled: Your inheritance can’t be corrupted. You can’t lose it—ever.

Beyond the reach of change and decay: Your inheritance won’t wither, die, or lose its value.

Priceless: The value of your inheritance can’t be measured.

In fact, God has already written the final chapter of your life. If you’re a believer, you’ve got a reservation in heaven! And you cannot lose your salvation. You can trust in that. You can believe in that. You can place your hope in that.

Cuatro tipos de Personas que Necesitas en tu Vida

“Camina con sabios y te harás sabio; júntate con necios y te meterás en dificultades”.   Proverbios 13:20 (NTV)

Tú y yo nunca podremos ser el tipo de persona que Dios quiere que seamos, si lo intentamos por nuestros propios medios. No estábamos destinados a ello. Todos necesitamos personas que nos enseñe, que compartan sus vidas con nosotros, que inviertan en nosotros, y nos animen a crecer.

La Biblia nos dice, “Camina con sabios y te harás sabio; júntate con necios y te meterás en dificultades” Proverbios 13:20 (NTV).

De hecho, para ser todo lo que Dios quiere que seas, necesitas aprender por lo menos de cuatro tipos de personas:

Mentores: Estos son tus entrenadores. He tenido nueve mentores diferentes en mi vida. Nadie te puede enseñar todo lo que necesitas conocer. Una persona te enseñará en un área. Otra persona te enseñará sobre algo diferente.
Modelos a seguir: Estas personas son quienes están haciendo o ya hicieron algo que quieres hacer. Muchas de estas habilidades que has aprendido en tu vida, las has aprendido observando a otros.
Colaboradores: Necesitas compañeros de trabajo y colegas quienes estén en tu profesión, personas que te apoyen y te reten en lo que Dios quiere que hagas en tu vida.
Amigos: Los amigos no necesariamente te ayudan con tus metas. Son solo amigos. Ellos te aman no importa lo que hagas. Te puedes equivocar, y ellos te seguirán queriendo. Un amigo entra a tu vida cuando todos los demás se van. Ahí es cuando sabes quienes son tus amigos.

Intentar vivir solo en la vida no solo es solitario. Es ir en contra del diseño de Dios para nosotros.

Before You Chose God, He Chose You

There are many people in our broken world asking why things don’t seem to go right so much of the time. They want to know, “Is there hope?”

Hope is essential.

You and I need genuine hope—not just optimism. Optimism is psychological. It’s based on the way you think. Hope is theological. It’s based on who God is and his relationship with you.

Optimism is positive thinking. Hope is passionate trusting.

The book of 1 Peter is a letter of hope. Peter wrote it to Christians who were suffering persecution in the Roman Empire. He said one reason we can have a radical hope is because God chose us before we chose him.

The Bible says, “You were chosen according to the purpose of God the Father and were made a holy people by his Spirit” (1 Peter 1:2 GNT).

Your salvation is no accident. Long before you chose God, he chose you. It was his idea. Before God even created the universe, he decided he wanted to create you.

You were chosen according to the purpose of God. He has a purpose for your life. He wants to make you holy for heaven.

Understanding this simple truth can give you hope.

The highest honor you will ever receive is this: God invites you to spend eternity with him. That’s a big deal!

And it’s why we can have hope, no matter what’s going on in our lives.

Una Vida de Aprendizaje Permanente comienza con una Elección

“Entrégate a la instrucción; presta suma atención a las palabras de conocimiento”.   Proverbios 23:12 (NTV)

Tu jornada de aprendizaje en la vida comienza con una decisión. Es una elección que sólo tú puedes hacer. Es una decisión increíblemente importante que impactará toda tu vida.

La Biblia dice, “Entrégate a la instrucción; presta suma atención a las palabras de conocimiento” Proverbios 23:12 (NTV).

Hice este compromiso para seguir aprendiendo cuando tenía quince años. Comencé diciendo que aprendería tanto como pudiera. Por muchos años yo leí al menos un libro al día. Comencé coleccionando libros cuando era adolescente, y hoy en día tengo más de 35.000 volúmenes en mi librería. Los libros abrieron la puerta a cada tema imaginable.

Tu educación no se detiene cuando te gradúas. He escuchado a personas decir, “Estoy feliz de que terminé mi educación, ahora puedo comenzar mi carrera”. Dile eso a Dios, y Él se reirá. ¡Dios tiene tanto para enseñarte! Tu educación nunca debe terminar.

El aprender no es una etapa en tu vida; ¡Es tu vida!  Dios quiere que aprendas algo nuevo cada día. ¡Así que no te detengas —nunca!

Comienza a trabajar en aprender una nueva habilidad este año. Dios quiere que crezcas. Dentro de un año deberías y podrías ser diferente y mucho mejor.

Este debe ser tu mayor interés. El aprendizaje durante toda tu vida te hará un mejor líder, un mejor padre, un mejor esposo y un mejor amigo. Te hará más efectivo en el trabajo. Te dará éxito y ganancias.

La Biblia dice, “Si el hacha pierde su filo, y no se vuelve a afilar, hay que golpear con más fuerza. El éxito radica en la acción sabia y bien ejecutada” Eclesiastés 10:10 (NVI).

Si tienes el hacha sin filo y estás cortando madera, te tomará mucho tiempo y energía hacerlo. Pero, si tu hacha está afilada (lo que representa una habilidad en este versículo), entonces no te tomará mucho esfuerzo hacerlo.

La Biblia está diciendo que trabajes más inteligentemente, no más duro. Nunca perderás tiempo cuando estés afilando tu hacha.

Considera esto: Cuando lees este devocional o lees un libro o tomas un seminario, estás afilando tu hacha espiritual. ¿Cuál es otra forma específica de afilar tu hacha?
