Adorar a Dios es el Primer paso en el Aprendizaje

La Biblia lo dice así: “El principio de la sabiduría es el temor al Señor; Los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la enseñanza” Proverbios 1:7 (RVC). El apóstol Pablo le dijo una vez a Timoteo que el problema con muchas personas era que sabían mucho —pero no sabían lo que era más

Un día, después de que tu vida termine, estarás de pie ante Dios. Será tu examen final. Será mucho más importante que cualquier examen que un maestro te dé.

En ese examen final, Dios no hablará de cómo te fue en matemáticas o estudios sociales.

Él te preguntará: “¿Me conociste?”

When You Ask for Something, Believe God Will Answer

If I gave you a check today for a thousand dollars, would you withhold your thanks until you knew it wouldn’t bounce? Anyone who knows me would think, “This is a pretty good guy. I’m sure he has enough in his account to cover it. I’ll thank him right now.” You’d thank me before you received the cash—and then you would take the check to the bank.

God’s promises are better than any of our promises. Before we even receive what he has promised, we can say, “Thank you, God, that what you said is going to happen, will happen.”

There’s a great example of this in God’s “Hall of Fame” in Hebrews 11. Remember Joshua and Jericho, where the walls fell down? How did they fall down? Hebrews 11:30 says, “By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days” (NIV).

The people of Israel were going into the Promised Land, where the powerful city of Jericho was located. God promised he was going to let the Israelites into the city and then gave them his plan: “I want you to march around Jericho for seven days. Then on the seventh day, I want you to march around the city seven times, thanking me for the victory that’s going to come.” And when the people did that, the walls just fell. God did what he’d promised!

I’ve often thought, “What if I’d been one of those people marching around the walls for seven days?” Some of them had to be looking at the walls, getting more and more worried and wondering how God could ever bring the walls down. But a lot of those people had faith instead. And every day they looked at the wall and thought about what God could do and thanked him in advance.

This is the kind of life that God wants you to live, the thanking-God-in-advance kind of life. Jesus talked about it in Mark 11:24: “I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (NIV).

When you ask God for something, if you don’t believe, then why even ask? It’s an empty exercise. But if you pray and ask God for something, Jesus said, believe that he’s going to do it. Thank him in advance for what only he can do. And then look for how he answers your prayer.

Enfócate en Tu Futuro para Afrontar Problemas Temporales

 

“Dichosos serán ustedes cuando por mi causa la gente los insulte, los persiga y levante contra ustedes toda clase de calumnias. Alégrense y llénense de júbilo, porque les espera una gran recompensa en el cielo. Así también persiguieron a los profetas que los precedieron a ustedes”.  Mateo 5:11-12 (NVI)

Cuando seguimos a Jesús, enfrentaremos problemas. La Biblia dice que eso está garantizado. Serás acosado, perseguido, rechazado y ridiculizado por causa de tu fe.

Pero ese no es el final de la historia. La Biblia también dice que Jesús soportó la tortura de la cruz “por el gozo que le esperaba”.

Tú también debes enfocarte en la recompensa futura si quieres salir de tus problemas temporales.

Imagina la escena al final de la historia. Todo aquel que vivió alguna vez se arrodillará ante Jesucristo. Todos dirán, “Jesús es el Señor” Algunos lo adorarán porque lo han hecho toda su vida. Otros lo adorarán en juicio en su contra porque ellos lo negaron toda su vida.

Cada profesor que te ridiculizó por causa de tu fe un día adorará a Jesús. Cada amigo que intentó convencerte de abandonar tu fe, lo adorará. Cada artista que hizo burla de su nombre lo adorará. Cada político que se opuso un día lo adorará.

La Biblia lo describe de esta manera: “Por eso Dios lo exaltó hasta lo sumo y le otorgó el nombre que está sobre todo nombre, para que ante el nombre de Jesús se doble toda rodilla en el cielo y en la tierra y debajo de la tierra, y toda lengua confiese que Jesucristo es el Señor, para gloria de Dios Padre” Filipenses 2:9-11 (NVI).

Todos, un día se inclinarán ante Jesús.

En ese momento Dios también te recompensará por mantenerte en la verdad a pesar de las amenazas y críticas que enfrentaste por tu fe hoy.

Cuando enfrentes persecución, estás en la misma categoría que Daniel, Isaías, Jeremías y Moisés.

Al igual que esos grandes profetas del pasado, un día tú también experimentarás una eternidad con Dios, lleno de alegría inimaginable. El acoso, la persecución, el rechazo y el ridículo que enfrentaste ahora por el nombre de Jesús, no se comparará con la recompensa de la eternidad con Dios.

You Can Only Accomplish the Impossible When You See the Invisible

You can’t be an Olympic athlete unless you spend the extra hours to exercise. You can’t be a master musician unless you spend the extra hours to practice. If you want to become a godly person, you must practice the habits of spending time alone with God, reading the Bible, giving, and sharing your faith.

Faith and persistence are the same. Faith means you don’t give up even when you’re tired. Faith means you don’t know how to quit.

Moses gives us a great example of this. Hebrews 11:27 says, “It was by faith that Moses left Egypt and was not afraid of the king’s anger. Moses continued strong as if he could see the God that no one can see” (NCV).

Moses realized this important truth: You can only accomplish the impossible when you see the invisible. The key to faith is to be persistent. Keep your eyes on God, not on your problem.

God will give you strength to persevere. He’ll give you the power to keep working on the marriage that seems hopeless. He will give you the power to pick yourself up when you’ve fallen. He can give you the power to keep going when you’re on the edge of bankruptcy. He’ll give you the power to keep your convictions when all the pressure around you says to give in.

God’s power to keep going is there for you.

You just need to ask him for it.

Una Sorprendente Verdad Espiritual del Carbón

 

“No dejemos de congregarnos, como lo hacen algunos, sino animémonos unos a otros, sobre todo ahora que el día de su regreso se acerca”.  Hebreos 10:25 (NTV)

En estos tiempos no tienes que ir a la iglesia a observar un servicio de adoración. Te puedes quedar en casa y verlo en línea. Te puedes quedar en pijamas, y preparar un desayuno.

Pero la Biblia lo dice claramente. “No dejemos de congregarnos, como lo hacen algunos, sino animémonos unos a otros, sobre todo ahora que el día de su regreso se acerca”  Hebreos 10:25 (NTV).

Y este es el por qué necesitas una iglesia como familia. Este es el por qué necesitamos reunirnos como un grupo pequeño de creyentes para que podamos vivir la vida juntos mientras seguimos a Jesús.

Sin una congregación, te desviarás cuando sea difícil confiar en Cristo. Puedo ver mi pasado y ver tiempos cuando, si me hubiera perdido un servicio de adoración específico, mi vida hubiera tomado un rumbo diferente. Y he pensado, “¿Qué tal si me hubiera perdido ese servicio? ¿Qué tal si me hubiera quedado dormido ese día?” hubiera perdido algo que cambió la dirección del resto de mi vida. Así que, si las puertas de la iglesia están abiertas, quiero estar dentro.

Una iglesia es como un tipo de fogata. En una fogata tienes todos esos carbones al rojo vivo. Si sacas un solo carbón y lo pones aparte, se enfriará en cuestión de minutos. El fuego se acaba, y el carbón se pone negro. Pero si tomas un carbón que ha perdido su fuego y lo regresas al fuego, se vuelve a encender. Ese es el poder del compañerismo.

Ahora, yo sé que hay tiempos cuando no puedes llegar a la iglesia, y podemos estar agradecidos que hay formas en los que nos podemos conectar, tales como ver un servicio de adoración en línea o escuchar un pódcast. Puedes estar muy enfermo y eso te impide venir a la iglesia, o puedes tener tiempos cuando vives a cientos de kilómetros de la iglesia más cercana, así como cuando nuestros hombres y mujeres valientes sirven en el ejército. Incluso puedes estar sirviendo al Señor en alguna región remota del mundo.

En estos casos, sigue siendo importante mantenerte conectado como mejor puedas con otros creyentes, quienes te pueden ayudar a permanecer animado y fiel. Y es importante para las personas dentro de nuestras congregaciones alcanzar a individuos que están pasando por dificultades para poder llegar a la iglesia cada semana.

Jesús nos dice en Mateo 18:20 “Porque donde dos o tres se reúnen en mi nombre, allí estoy yo en medio de ellos” (DHH). Continuemos orando y apoyándonos unos a otros, y “Preocupémonos los unos por los otros, a fin de estimularnos al amor y a las buenas obras” Hebreos 10:24 (NVI).

Trusting God When You Don’t Understand

I know many people who ask God to guarantee their success before trying what he has asked them to do, but that’s not faith.

Faith always requires risk. Faith means you obey even when you don’t understand it.

For example, forgiveness never seems like a good idea before you do it, but it’s one of the greatest tests of your faith. When someone hurts you, it may not seem right to forgive that person. It may not appear just. But forgiveness is always the right choice, regardless of whether or not you can understand it.

Remember when you were a kid and your parents told you to do something that didn’t make sense you? But now you can look back with 20/20 hindsight and understand your parents’ perspective.

That’s how it works with God, too.

Faith is doing what’s right even when it seems absurd. Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding” (HCSB). You never know the whole picture, but God does.

The Bible gives us a great example of this in the story of Gideon in Judges 7. Gideon took 300 Israelites to battle 135,000 enemy soldiers. The odds were 450-to-1. God had the soldiers take torches, trumpets, and clay pots—a command I’m sure Gideon thought was ludicrous.

Then, God told Gideon to put the clay pots over the torches so the light couldn’t be seen at night and to go surround the enemy’s camp. God said, “When I tell you to, blow the trumpets, break the pots, and let torchlight suddenly shine out in the darkness. It will look like a huge army is surrounding the camp. It will cause mass confusion, and the enemy soldiers will end up fighting each other.”

Gideon obeyed, even though it didn’t make any sense! The Israelites blew their trumpets, broke their pots, and revealed the light from their torches. The enemy soldiers woke up in shock and started fighting each other instead of the Israelites. Gideon did what God told him to do, and the Israelites won the battle.

Sometimes God tells you to do something that appears foolish—like going into battle facing overwhelming odds. Faith is obeying God even when you don’t understand what he’s asking you to do.

You can’t live by faith without risk. But God knows why he is asking you to do it. You can trust him.

Faith Is Believing What You Can’t See

Faith is visualizing the future in the present—it means seeing the future in advance. People say, “Seeing is believing.” God says the exact opposite: “Believing is seeing.” Some things you’ll never see unless you believe them first.

Every great achievement started when someone first believed it was possible. Faith turns dreams into realities. It makes reality out of what’s in your imagination. Nothing happens until someone believes it’s possible first.

Nearly 40 years ago, I stood in front of a small group of people for the first service of Saddleback Church, and I shared a dream God gave me for a church with 50 acres of land, a church that would minister to 20,000 people every week. People laughed. Frankly, I laughed, too. We all knew the price of land in Orange County. It seemed impossible.

But God did it. Everything God has done through Saddleback in the last four decades was impossible before it happened.

You need a dream, too. Your dream, your goal is an act of faith. When you’re tuned in to God and asking him what he wants you to do, you’re saying, “God, I believe you want me to accomplish this action by this time.” When you do that, you’re acting on faith.

And faith pleases God.

Busca Amigos que te Edifiquen

 

“No se dejen engañar: ‘Las malas compañías corrompen las buenas costumbres’”.  1 Corintios 15:33 (NVI)

Primero vamos a ponernos de acuerdo que Dios quiere que tengas amistades que no sean cristianas. Dios quiere que ames a todos, muestres bondad para todos y seas capaz de ayudar a todos. Si no tienes amigos que no sean cristianos, no estarás cerca de alguien que necesite escuchar las Buenas Nuevas.

Pero tus mejores amigos deben ser cristianos. Deben ser creyentes fuertes.

Siempre es más fácil desanimar a las personas que animarlas. Es por eso que debes asegurarte que las personas con las que más pasas tiempo te lleven en la dirección correcta. Deben estar edificándote en vez de derrumbarte.

¿Dónde quieres estar en 10 años? ¿Qué tipo de persona quieres ser? Dime dos cosas sobre ti y puedo decirte dónde estarás sin ni siquiera conocerte. Háblame de las personas con las que pasas tu tiempo y de lo que estás leyendo. Estos dos factores determinarán tu futuro.

La Biblia nos enseña que, “No se dejen engañar: ‘Las malas compañías corrompen las buenas costumbres’”  1 Corintios 15:33 (NVI).

Tus amistades son demasiado importantes para escogerlas por casualidad. Debes ser intencional. Es por eso que necesitas un grupo de la iglesia en tu casa. Conoce a las personas de la iglesia. Construye relaciones. Únete a un grupo pequeño.

¡Empieza un grupo! Reúne a algunos amigos cristianos de tu oficina o tu vecindario para estudiar la Biblia juntos durante el almuerzo. Necesitas amigos cristianos. Haz lo que tengas que hacer para construir esas relaciones.

Estudia lo que es Real para Detectar lo que no es Verdadero

 

“Me das tanta sabiduría que no soporto la mentira. ¡Tu palabra es para mí más dulce que la miel!”.   Salmos 119:103 (TLA)

La única manera para realmente reconocer lo que es falso es conocer lo que es real. El Departamento del Tesoro de los Estados Unidos, entrena a sus agentes a encontrar billetes falsos dándoles billetes auténticos para que los examinen, toquen y reconozcan. Hay muchas formas de falsificar, pero solo hay una versión de los billetes reales.

Así que, un buen principio educativo es estudiar lo que es real para poder detectar lo que no es verdadero. Ese es el por qué es tan importante estudiar la Palabra de Dios. Al conocer una verdad bíblica, somos capaces de detectar falsas enseñanzas.

Muchas personas hoy caen por ideas equivocadas debido a que no conocen la verdad. Y como no saben lo que es auténtico, tampoco pueden saber lo que es mentira.

El salmista escribió, “Me das tanta sabiduría que no soporto la mentira. ¡Tu palabra es para mí más dulce que la miel!”  Salmos 119:103 (TLA).

Así que, ¿Cómo podemos sacar más tiempo para pasar en la Palabra de Dios?

Usar menos tiempo en frente de las pantallas. Usar menos tiempo en los dispositivos. Usar menos tiempo apoyando el equipo favorito.

Cuando un estudiante americano se gradúa de la secundaria en estos días, él o ella han usado más de 30,000 horas en frente de una pantalla (incluyendo juegos de video, tabletas, portátiles y televisores).

¿Sabes cuánto tiempo se tarda en leer la Biblia completa —todos los 66 libros? Toma sólo 80 horas.

Así que, tenemos el tiempo. La pregunta es, “¿Cómo usamos nuestro tiempo?” Dios nos dio su Palabra para darnos la sabiduría que necesitamos para vivir una vida plena y productiva.

Make Every Step Count

Spiritual growth must be purposeful.

We don’t know how many days we have left. Our next breath may be our last. So every step in our journey with Jesus should be taken on purpose.

We must be disciplined.

To become the person God wants you to be, you must deny yourself. I’ll be honest with you: You won’t get to do everything that other people do. You can’t follow everyone else’s plan and follow God’s plan at the same time. Being a disciplined disciple of Jesus means sometimes taking the more difficult path.

Olympic runners must give up all kinds of stuff that other people do in order to go for the gold. They must go to bed at a certain time. They must eat a certain way. They must train in a certain setting. They must deny themselves. They must count the cost.

Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 9:25-26, “All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing” (NLT).

Every step, Paul says, must be purposeful. That’s how you finish the race God has marked out for you.

Don’t be tempted by shortcuts. Stay on the straight and narrow path, and keep pressing forward toward your goal. Remember the purpose God has called you to. Remember the example of Jesus, who used his time on earth for God’s glory and was not distracted by the things of this world.
