Libera tu Mente de Pensamientos Destructivos

“Los que están dominados por la naturaleza pecaminosa piensan en cosas pecaminosas, pero los que son controlados por el Espíritu Santo piensan en las cosas que agradan al Espíritu”. Romanos 8:5 (NTV)

Liberar tu mente de los pensamientos destructivos nunca será fácil porque hay tres fuerzas que están luchando en tu mente contra tus buenas intenciones —y ninguna de ellas se rendirá fácilmente. ¡Tienes que luchar para liberar tu mente!

¿Cuáles son los enemigos —esas fuerzas que luchan en tu mente?

El primero es tu vieja naturaleza. Romanos 7:23 dice: “pero hay otro poder dentro de mí que está en guerra con mi mente. Ese poder me esclaviza al pecado que todavía está dentro de mí” (NTV). Tu vieja naturaleza, quien eras antes de convertirte en un Cristiano, puede influenciarte todavía. Es persistente en hacerte pensar que esos malos pensamientos no son tan malos.

La segunda cosa que está trabajando contra ti es Satanás. Satanás no te puede obligar a hacer nada, pero puede usar el poder de la sugestión. Él está plantando continuamente pensamientos negativos en tu mente. Pero puedes pelear en contra de ellos. Pablo dijo que él eligió perdonar “para que Satanás no se aproveche de nosotros. Pues ya conocemos sus maquinaciones malignas” 2 Corintios 2:11 (NTV).

El tercer enemigo de tu mente es el sistema de valores del mundo, el cual está constantemente promoviendo en anuncios, películas, el internet, la música, y la cultura de las celebridades. La Biblia dice, “Pues el mundo solo ofrece un intenso deseo por el placer físico, un deseo insaciable por todo lo que vemos, y el orgullo de nuestros logros y posesiones. Nada de eso proviene del Padre, sino que viene del mundo” 1 Juan 2:16 (NTV). Todo en el mundo está tratando de hacerte ir por el camino equivocado. Nada te anima a ser disciplinado; nada te anima a no ser egoísta.

La Biblia nos dice como pelear esta batalla mental: “pues, aunque vivimos en el mundo, no libramos batallas como lo hace el mundo. Las armas con que luchamos no son del mundo, sino que tienen el poder divino para derribar fortalezas. Destruimos argumentos y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y llevamos cautivo todo pensamiento para que obedezca a Cristo” 2 Corintios 10:3-5 (NVI).

“Llevamos cautivo” significa tener tus pensamientos bajo control. No solo permitir a tus pensamientos divagar. En lugar de eso, traerlos en sumisión a la verdad de la Palabra de Dios.

Si esto suena como que tienes poder sobre tus pensamientos, ¡es porque lo tienes! Cuando tus pensamientos comiencen a ir en la dirección equivocada, cambia de dirección. Elige pensar sobre las cosas que tú sabes que son buenas, rectas y verdaderas. ¡El Espíritu Santo te ayudará!

To Hear God’s Voice, Keep the Channel Open

“God does speak—sometimes one way and sometimes another—even though people may not understand it.”

Job 33:14 (NCV)

God designed you to hear his voice. In a sense, there is a “receiver” in you that allows you to get guidance from God.

What channels does God use? The primary way that God speaks is through the Bible. This is why it’s important to read the Bible every day. God’s will is found in his Word. That’s how you know if an impression you get is a message from God.

God also speaks through godly teachers. Have you ever been in church or at a Bible study and felt like the teacher was speaking directly to you? In that moment, God was speaking directly to you.

Now, if somebody has the gift of teaching, it’s going to agree with the Bible. I don’t care how convincing someone is or how much emotion you feel from that person’s message. If what is said does not agree with the Bible, then the speaker does not have the gift of teaching.

The Bible talks about this in 1 Corinthians 2:13: “We do not speak in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual truths to those who have the Spirit” (GNT).

God speaks through other Christians. He even speaks through you! When you stay tuned in to him and learn his Word, sometimes God will use you to say things to people that he wants them to hear. It’s not something reserved only for pastors. God speaks through every believer at different times.

God also speaks through your circumstances and your pain. That’s not always our favorite way to learn God’s will, but it will be one of the most powerful ways God speaks to you. God never wastes your hurt!

Job 33:14 says, “God does speak—sometimes one way and sometimes another—even though people may not understand it” (NCV).

God is speaking all the time. But you have to listen. In the midst of this noisy world, sometimes that’s easier said than done. That’s why it’s important to stay sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. As you listen and obey, he will show you the right path.

¿Con qué Alimentas tu Mente?

“Por último, hermanos, consideren bien todo lo verdadero, todo lo respetable, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo amable, todo lo digno de admiración, en fin, todo lo que sea excelente o merezca elogio”. Filipenses 4:8 (NVI)

Puedes aprender mucho sobre la salud física de una persona al simplemente observar su dieta. ¿Están comiendo una variedad de alimentos enteros? ¿Están comiendo mucha comida rápida? ¿Su dieta está llena de comida que les ayuda a crecer fuertes y tener energía, o la comida que ellos consumen los está desgastando?

Lo mismo es verdad espiritual, mental y emocionalmente. Puedes saber mucho sobre tu salud espiritual, mental y emocional al observar tu dieta mental.

Horas de escuchar radio, noticias por cable, novelas, redes sociales, y maratones de series es el equivalente de comida chatarra mental. No es saludable para ti. De hecho, es veneno. Está desgastando tu habilidad de vivir una vida con propósito.

Proverbios 15:14 dice, “El corazón entendido va tras el conocimiento; la boca de los necios se nutre de tonterías” (NVI).

Tienes una elección —cada día. Debes elegir alimentar tu mente con los mejores pensamientos.

Filipenses 4:8 es específico sobre la clase de pensamientos que son mejores para tu salud mental, emocional y espiritual: “Por último, hermanos, consideren bien todo lo verdadero, todo lo respetable, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo amable, todo lo digno de admiración, en fin, todo lo que sea excelente o merezca elogio” (NVI).

¿Esa lista de cosas describe sobre lo que piensas la mayoría del tiempo? Si eres honesto, la respuesta es “no”. Todos deberíamos contestar “no”. Nuestras mentes no se dirigen hacia estas cosas naturalmente, porque somos humanos y pecadores.

Así que, tienes que entrenar tu mente para tener pensamientos que sean verdaderos, nobles, rectos, puros, amorosos, admirables, excelentes, y admirables. ¿Cómo haces eso? ¡Haciéndolo! Tienes que practicar el llenar tu mente con estas cosas al leer la Biblia, meditar en ella, y memorizarla. Tienes que tener hambre de ella.

La forma en la que pienses determina como vives. Lo que pongas en tu mente va a afectar cada área de tu vida —así que necesitas una verdadera dieta continua de la Palabra de Dios.

¿Como describes tu dieta mental? ¿Está nutriendo tu vida o desgastándola?¿De qué maneras las redes sociales se convierten en un veneno para tu mente? ¿Sus beneficios superan los perjuicios para ti?¿Qué necesitas cambiar sobre tus hábitos de estudio bíblicos para que puedas tener una dieta constante de la Palabra de Dios?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Expect God to Answer Your Prayers

“If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you . . . If you don’t ask with faith, don’t expect the Lord to give you any solid answer.”

James 1:5-8 (TLB)

God wants to direct you in life, but two things need to line up: You need to ask him for help, and you need to ask with the right attitude. You need to ask him in faith, trusting him to provide the answer.

The Living Bible paraphrases James 1:5-8 this way: “If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you . . . If you don’t ask with faith, don’t expect the Lord to give you any solid answer.”

Have you ever asked God for something while not expecting to get it? God works in your life according to faith. Living by faith means you expect God to answer your prayers.

You expect him to provide the solution and keep his promises. You expect that he wants to accomplish his will through you. And you expect him to provide everything you need to do that.

So often we say, “God, please guide me!” and we walk away without waiting for guidance. We just immediately get to work on the problem. We may say that we want God to give us wisdom and help us make the right decision, but we don’t really expect him to. We think it all depends on us.

But God has promised to give you wisdom—if you wait for it. Wisdom is seeing life from God’s point of view. Wisdom is the ability to make decisions the way God makes decisions.

Think about this: God never makes a bad decision. He never makes a mistake. He says if you trust him and listen to him, he will guide you. But you must first ask in faith.

No matter how you feel and no matter what your life looks like, God is for you and not against you. He is a good God, and you can be confident he is working for your good. You can trust him with your future because he knows better than you do what is best for you.

When this truth becomes the foundation of your prayers, then your prayers will become powerful and passionate and purposeful.

So, what do you want to see God do in your life? What big things do you want to ask of him, believing in his good purpose for you? With God’s goodness as your foundation, what do you expectantly hope he will accomplish through you?

Ask him for it in faith!

Talk It Over

Have you ever asked God for something but didn’t expect to get it? What did you ask for? And how did God answer?
What do you tend to do while waiting for God to answer your prayers?
What can you ask God for today in faith, expecting him to answer?

Will you follow Jesus today?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. You can’t earn your way into heaven: “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to commit your life to Jesus, start by praying this prayer:

“Dear God, you have promised that if I believe in your Son, Jesus Christ, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

El Pensamiento Dirigido por el Espíritu Lleva a la Vida

“Los que ocupan su mente en las cosas del Espíritu tienen vida y paz; pero el ocuparse de las cosas de la naturaleza pecaminosa produce muerte”. Romanos 8:6 (NBV)

Hacer cambios en cualquier área de tu vida requiere que cambies la forma en la que piensas. Por eso es en tu mente donde el Espíritu de Dios trabaja.

El Espíritu de Dios no trabaja en los dedos de tus pies, o tus pulmones o tu nariz. ¡Él trabaja en tu mente! A menudo usamos la metáfora de nuestro corazón siendo el lugar donde Dios trabaja. Por ejemplo, decimos, “Invito a Jesús a mi corazón”. Pero tu corazón es realmente solo un símbolo de tu cerebro. Tu cerebro es donde tu piensas —por lo que es en tu mente donde Dios comienza el proceso del cambio. Es donde el reinicio tiene lugar.

La Biblia dice en Efesios 4:23, “En cambio, dejen que el Espíritu les renueve los pensamientos y las actitudes” (NTV).

Fuiste creado para ser como Dios. Pero eso no sucede instantáneamente. Para crecer en alguien que es más como Jesús, vas a tener que pasar por muchos de cambios en tu vida; vas a sufrir muchos reinicios. Ser una nueva persona en Cristo comienza con cambiar la forma en la que piensas.

¿Cómo funciona esto? Cuando Satanás te sugiere una idea en tu mente, a eso se llama tentación. Cuando Dios te sugiere una idea en tu mente, a eso se le llama inspiración.

Es tu elección a cada momento de tu vida cuáles ideas vas a mantener y cuales vas a rechazar. Ya sea que aceptes o rechaces una tentación o una inspiración todo depende de ti. Con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo. Puedes elegir cuales ideas van a controlar tu vida.

Romanos 8:6 dice, “Los que ocupan su mente en las cosas del Espíritu tienen vida y paz; pero el ocuparse de las cosas de la naturaleza pecaminosa produce muerte” (NBV).

Dios quiere que vivas una vida plena, llena de significado y propósito. Él quiere que crezcas en fe y en madurez espiritual.

Pero es tu elección en cada momento del día. ¿Elegirás la forma que te lleva a la vida?

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Cómo puede ayudarte el estudio de la Palabra de Dios para elegir la instrucción de Dios sobre la influencia de Satanás?Desde que te convertiste en un cristiano, ¿Qué ha cambiado en tu forma de pensar?¿De qué maneras el crecimiento en madurez espiritual te lleva a una vida con más significado?

¿Dónde Pasarás la Eternidad?

La Biblia dice que solo puedes llegar al cielo al confiar en Dios a través de su Hijo, Jesucristo. No puedes comprar tu entrada en el cielo: “Dios los salvó por su gracia cuando creyeron. Ustedes no tienen ningún mérito en eso; es un regalo de Dios. La salvación no es un premio por las cosas buenas que hayamos hecho, así que ninguno de nosotros puede jactarse de ser salvo” Efesios 2:8-9 (NTV).

Si estás listo para rendir tu vida a Jesús, comienza con esta oración:

“Querido Dios, tú has prometido que, si yo creo en tu Hijo, Jesucristo, todo lo que he hecho mal será perdonado, Aprenderé el propósito para mi vida, y me aceptarás un día en tu hogar eterno en el cielo”.

“Confieso que he pecado, y te pido que me perdones. Creo que Jesús murió para quitar mis pecados y que tú lo levantaste de la muerte. Quiero confiar en Jesús como mi Salvador y seguirlo como Señor de mi vida desde hoy en adelante. Guía mi vida y ayúdame a hacer tu voluntad. En el nombre de Jesús hago esta oración. Amén”.

God’s Way Is Always Better

“He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.”

Psalm 25:9 (NIV)

God is ready and willing to guide you through life, but first you need to admit you need a guide.

If you’re like most people, you don’t really want to follow God or anybody else. You want to go your own way. Instead of doing what God wants you to do, you take matters into your own hands.

Isaiah 53:6 says, “All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own” (NLT). Sheep, by nature, tend to wander off the path. That’s why they need guidance from a shepherd. Another thing about sheep is that they have poor vision. They can’t see very far ahead.

It’s not surprising that the Bible compares us to sheep! God made us so that we would not be able to see into the future, no matter how hard we try. He did it so we would depend on him.

We need God to be our shepherd and lead us on the right path.

Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death” (NIV). We’ve all made decisions that at the time seemed right but later turned out to be wrong. Some paths lead to dead ends, and you end up off track. That’s why you need to admit, “God, I need help.”

When you trust God’s will more than your own, it represents a deep level of faith and makes all the difference in the world. 

If you look at your circumstances from your point of view, it won’t always make sense. But when you believe that God’s point of view is greater and longer and deeper than you could ever dream, the problem suddenly shrinks in size. The next step becomes clearer.

When Israel’s army looked at Goliath, they said, “This guy is impossible to handle. We’re never going to be able to take him down.” If they had trusted their point of view, they would have been defeated. 

But David looked at Goliath from God’s point of view and said, “He’s just a mere mortal man who is defiling and defaming God.” He believed God could see more and do more than they could ever think of, and it led to Israel’s victory.

You can trust God to see the better way that leads to life. He wants to lead you on the right path, and that’s exactly what he’ll do when you surrender to him and let him be your guide.

La Batalla por tu Mente

“¿Qué es lo que causa las disputas y las peleas entre ustedes? ¿Acaso no surgen de los malos deseos que combaten en su interior?”. Santiago 4:1 (NTV)

A cada segundo de tu vida, hay una batalla en tu mente. ¡Hay una batalla mental ocurriendo justo ahora! Puede ser entre lo bueno y lo malo, entre lo que es fácil y lo que es difícil, o lo que es saludable y lo que no.

Todas tus emociones negativas —estrés, depresión, ansiedad, soledad, miedo, celos—son una batalla mental. Todos tus conflictos internos comienzan en tu mente. De hecho, también todos tus conflictos externos.

Santiago 4:1 dice, “¿Qué es lo que causa las disputas y las peleas entre ustedes? ¿Acaso no surgen de los malos deseos que combaten en su interior?” (PDT). Esa batalla que está ocurriendo en el interior de tu mente entre deseos en conflicto puede continuar incluso cuando estás profundamente dormido o cuando duermes pero no descansas y tienes pesadillas. Es una batalla que dura las 24 horas del día, siete días a la semana.

Esta batalla en tu mente es constante e intensa porque tu mente es tu activo más valioso. Tú eres tus pensamientos, tu voluntad, tus emociones, tu alma. Sin tu mente, no eres tú.

La Biblia dice en Romanos 7:22-23, “Porque según el hombre interior, me deleito en la ley de Dios; pero veo otra ley en mis miembros, que hace guerra contra la ley de mi mente, y que me lleva cautivo a la ley del pecado que está en mis miembros” (RVR1977).

Si sigues a Jesús, entonces el Espíritu de Dios está en ti. Es parte de tu nueva naturaleza. Eso significa que Satanás no puede controlar tu mente, pero puede darte sugerencias.

La única influencia que Satanás tiene en la vida de un cristiano es que él puede poner pensamientos en su mente. Puede llamar tu atención —y ese es un gran problema. ¿Por qué? Porque cualquier cosa que consiga tu atención, te captura. Una vez que él pone un pensamiento en tu mente, tienes que decidir si vas a aceptar o rechazar su sugerencia.

 Hay muchas cosas ocurriendo en tu mente justo ahora, y todo eventualmente saldrá a través de tu actitud y tus acciones.

Pídele ayuda a Dios para elegir lo correcto sobre lo incorrecto, lo saludable sobre lo destructivo, y su verdad sobre las mentiras de Satanás. ¡Él está listo para darte el poder que necesitas a través del Espíritu Santo!

Considera el tipo de información y entretenimiento que consumes, ¿Cómo afecta tus elecciones sobre lo que es correcto y lo que no?¿Crees que el Espíritu Santo está activo en tu vida? ¿Por qué o por qué no?¿Cuáles son algunas cosas que más llaman tu atención? Piensa en sobre cómo puedes disciplinarte más en esas áreas para que Satanás no pueda usarlas para causar que peques.Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Big Dreams Require Genuine Prayer

“[God] is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”

Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)

God wants you to live your life to the fullest, with dreams and goals rooted in the knowledge of his power and love for you. He wants you to have great ambition and a growing faith.

God also wants you to have a genuine prayer life.

Jabez’s prayer life was the secret to accomplishing his dreams. He prayed, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain” (1 Chronicles 4:10 NIV). And then the verse continues, “God granted his request.”

Did you know that you can’t out-ask or out-dream God? The Bible says, “[God] is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20 NIV). Go ahead and stretch your imagination to the greatest thing that could possibly happen—and then realize God can go beyond that.

Jabez knew this about God, so he prayed three things:

Jabez prayed for God’s blessing in his life. He prayed, “Oh, that you would bless me!” You might say, “I shouldn’t ask God to bless me. That’s selfish.” But according to God, asking for blessing is absolutely fine. He wants to bless your life when you are walking faithfully with him.

Jabez prayed for God’s power in his life. He prayed, “Let your hand be with me.” He asked for God’s power. Jabez knew that if he got more land and a larger territory, he would have greater demands and more responsibilities. He knew he’d need God’s help to manage it all.

Jabez prayed for God’s protection over his life. He prayed, “Keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” Why does Jabez ask for God’s protection? Because he knew that the more successful you are, the more critics you have. The same thing is true in the Christian life: The closer you grow to the Lord, the stronger you become as a Christian, and the more the devil will hassle you. You’re going to need God’s protection.

Whatever you want God to do in your life, ask him.

But first, get the motive behind your goals and dreams in alignment with God’s will. Next, pray the three things Jabez prayed: for God’s blessing, power, and protection. Then watch how God answers your prayers!

El Cambio Comienza con una Elección

“Ante todo, cuida tus pensamientos porque ellos controlan tu vida”. Proverbios 4:23 (PDT)

¿Estás buscando un reinicio? No me refiero que te cambies de ciudad. Estoy hablando sobre un reinicio en cualquier área de tu vida que esté estancada. Experimentarás varios nuevos comienzos a lo largo de tu vida. Dios no te creó solamente para existir sino para transformarte para lo que Él te creó intencionalmente.

Para reiniciar y experimentar una transformación en tu vida, la primera cosa en la que necesitas trabajar es en tu mente —cómo te ves a ti mismo, cómo ves a otros, cómo ves tus problemas, y, lo más importante, cómo ves a Dios.

Si no cambias tus pensamientos primero, un cambio en tu ubicación o un cambio en el escenario no va a ayudar mucho. ¿Por qué?, porque podrías ir al fin del mundo, pero seguirás llevándote contigo a donde quiera que vayas.

Por ejemplo, digamos que estás estresado, así que decides ir a Hawái para relajarte. Pero terminas llevándote el estrés contigo, porque está en tu cuerpo. Si no lidias con el estrés mental primero, entonces va a continuar causando problemas en otras áreas.

Los cambios en la vida comienzan en tu mente porque tus pensamientos dirigen tu vida. Proverbios 4:23 dice, “Ante todo, cuida tus pensamientos porque ellos controlan tu vida” (PDT).

Cada acción y reacción en tu vida, todo lo que sientes y haces, comienza con un pensamiento. ¡Todo comienza en tu mente! Si no lo piensas primero, no sucede.

Puedes usar esta verdad para bien o para mal: Los buenos pensamientos llevan a buenos hábitos y buenas elecciones; los malos pensamientos llevan a hábitos y comportamiento nada saludables.

La verdad es, no nos damos cuenta lo seguido que saboteamos nuestro propio éxito por la forma en la que pensamos y hablamos a nosotros mismos. ¡Hablas contigo todo el tiempo!

La Biblia dice, “Porque cual es su  pensamiento en su corazón, tal es él” Proverbios 23:7 (RVR1960).

Tu problema al relacionarte no comienza con la relación. Comienza en tu cerebro. Esto también es cierto para el dinero, sexo, un hábito, la comida, tu trabajo, o cualquier otra cosa. No puedes reiniciar ningún área de tu vida sin primero cambiar como piensas.

El cambio comienza con una elección. Puedes elegir sobre lo que pensarás. Es hora de hacer las elecciones que reflejen el tipo de persona que Dios quiere que seas.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Cuando estás estresado, ¿Qué parte de tu cuerpo normalmente lo reciente primero?¿De qué formas has visto que tu mente afecta tu actitud y tus acciones en una situación difícil en particular?Piensa sobre las personas que más afectan tu forma de pensar. ¿Cómo están ayudando o molestando mientras intentas hacer elecciones sabias sobre lo que vas a pensar?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? You Were Made for More—Ask God for It!

“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers . . . Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.”

1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (NIV)

You may feel ordinary, but God made you to live a life of significance.

The Bible is filled with ordinary people who lived extraordinary lives because they believed God would work in and through them. They believed God made them for a purpose and a mission on earth.

One example is a man named Jabez. God gave him an honorable mention in 1 Chronicles, a book that includes nine chapters of genealogies. Right in the middle of that long list of names, God singles out Jabez, an ordinary guy, in two verses.

“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers . . . Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request” (1 Chronicles 4:9-10 NIV).

Those two verses give all the information we have about Jabez, but they reveal that he lived a life that was anything but average. What was the secret to his success?

Jabez had great ambition. While many people are content with being average, Jabez wanted God to do something significant through him.

Jabez was ambitious, but, just as importantly, he was motivated by the right things. How do we know Jabez’s motives were not selfish? Because we read, “And God granted his request.” God will never honor an unworthy request.

If you want to live above average, then dream big! You’re not meant to go through life wondering, “What am I doing? Where am I going?” God wants you to have a great ambition, fueled by the desire to serve him.

Jabez had a growing faith. Jabez had a deep trust and belief in God. There’s no mention of him having any special ability or talent. He was just a common man with an uncommon faith.

There is something in life that is more important than ability and talent: faith. I know a lot of very talented people who are sitting on the sidelines while people who have faith are scoring the goals. Faith is believing God will work through you and telling him you want him to use you.

How do you break out of mediocrity? Like Jabez, you get a great ambition and a growing faith—and depend on God to do what seems impossible.

Talk It Over

What great dream or goal do you want to ask God to make a reality?
Why do your motives behind reaching a goal or dream matter so much?
Do you rely more on your abilities and talents or on God to reach your goals? What step can you take today to show greater dependence on God?

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I receive you into my life as my Lord and Savior. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I’m grateful for your unconditional love. I want to use the rest of my life to love and serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
