Acércate a Dios con tu Dolor

“Porque fuimos abrumados sobremanera, más allá de nuestras fuerzas, de modo que hasta perdimos la esperanza de salir con vida. De hecho, dentro de nosotros mismos ya teníamos la sentencia de muerte, a fin de que no confiáramos en nosotros mismos, sino en Dios que resucita a los muertos”. 2 Corintios 1:8-9 (LBLA)

Cuando experimentes algo doloroso en tu vida, tienes una elección: Puedes acercarte a Dios, o puedes alejarte de Dios.

Alejarte de Dios nunca tiene sentido para mí. ¿Cómo vas a recibir consuelo cuando estás alejándote de la más grande fuente de consuelo? He pasado mucho tiempo a solas con Dios en los años después que mi hijo menor murió que en los años anteriores. En el duelo de esa pérdida, lo que me mantuvo a través de todos mis días dolorosos fue adorar a Dios y estar cerca de Él.

Si eliges acercarte a Dios. Puedes usar tu dolor para estar más cerca de Él en adoración. ¿Cómo haces eso? No le dices lo que crees que debes decir. En lugar de eso, le dices exactamente cómo te sientes. Argumentas con Él y le dices que no te gusta el dolor. A esto se le llama lamentar. La Biblia está llena de personas clamando a Dios en lamentos, incluyendo un tercio de los salmos.

Incluso quejarse con Dios es un acto de adoración. Tú puedes adorar en todas las fases del duelo. Puedes expresar tu conmoción. Puedes descargar tu pena. Puedes compartir tu batalla. Puedes rendirte a Él. Puedes pedirle a Dios que use el dolor para bien en tu vida.

Pablo hizo esto en 2 corintios 1:8-9, Él dice, “porque fuimos abrumados sobremanera, más allá de nuestras fuerzas, de modo que hasta perdimos la esperanza de salir con vida. De hecho, dentro de nosotros mismos ya teníamos la sentencia de muerte, a fin de que no confiáramos en nosotros mismos, sino en Dios que resucita a los muertos” (LBLA).

He escuchado miles de historias de personas que vinieron a conocer a Dios en su dolor, cuyas vidas fueron transformadas completamente en el proceso de adorar cuando estaban en dolor. Y puedo decirles, como Pablo dijo en 2 Corintios 7:9 “Me regocijo no de que fuisteis entristecidos, sino de que fuiste entristecidos para arrepentimiento” (LBLA).

Cuando estás en dolor, no es un tiempo para alejarte de Dios. Es una oportunidad para acercarte a Dios, confiar más en Él, adorarle más, conocerle y amarle más.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Quién es la primera persona a la que te acercas cuando estás en dolor? ¿en cuál punto usualmente acudes a Dios por ayuda?Cuando estás en dolor, ¿Puedes adorar a Dios con tus propias fuerzas? ¿Por qué o por qué no?Acercarte a Dios en tu dolor —con tus quejas, duelo y frustración— puede ser un acto de adoración. ¿Cómo te hace sentir esa verdad?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? You Can Talk to God About Anything

“If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me.”

Psalm 139:9 (GNT)

You are never, ever alone because God is in every dimension at the same time.

God is in the past, he’s in the present, he’s in the future. He’s in heaven, and he’s on earth. He’s in the spirit world. He’s in our world. He’s in you, he’s above you, he’s around you—because he is multidimensional.

There are not a bunch of gods to cover every dimension. There is one God in the person of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Because he is multidimensional, you are never alone.

“Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me. I could ask the darkness to hide me . . . but even darkness is not dark for you, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same to you” (Psalm 139:7-12 GNT).

Don’t try to play hide and seek with God. Every place you try to hide, he’s already there. This is God’s omnipresence. He’s everywhere! He’s in all things. He is the beginning and the end. There is no place you’ve been, no place you are, and no place you’re going to be where God was not, is not, or will not be. That should encourage you. No matter where you choose to go, God will walk with you, and he will already be there to meet you.

Because God is in every dimension of the world—even the dimensions we don’t know about—you can talk to him about every dimension of your life. He already understands! There is nothing you could bring to him from your past, present, or future that he is not already in complete control of.

Your prayers will never catch God off guard. You can bring them all to him!

Talk It Over

What does it mean if God’s omnipresence brings dread? If God’s omnipresence brings you dread, what do you need to get right with God in order for it to bring comfort?
What dimensions of your life are you hesitant to talk to God about?
Why do you sometimes refuse to talk to God about the things you know he is already aware of?

Will you follow Jesus today?

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I receive you into my life as my Lord and Savior. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I’m grateful for your unconditional love. I want to use the rest of my life to love and serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

¿Por qué el Dolor Evita un Daño Mayor?

“Dios está alejándote del peligro, y te lleva a un lugar libre de angustia”. Job 36:16 (NTV)

Algunas veces Dios usa el dolor para protegerte y guardarte.

El dolor en un área puede evitar que tengas un dolor peor en otra área; te protege de un daño mayor. De esta manera, ¡el dolor puede ser una bendición disfrazada! Por ejemplo, una fiebre te alerta de una infección que necesitas tratar. Es un pequeño dolor que te alerta de una enfermedad que amenace tu vida.

Cuando estás en dolor emocionalmente, a menudo significa que algo está fuera de lugar en tu relación con Dios, con otros o contigo mismo. Él usa el dolor para evitar que sigas caminando hacia una trampa oculta. Job 36:16 dice, “Dios está alejándote del peligro, y te lleva a un lugar libre de angustia” (NTV).

Piensa en la historia de José —en los primeros 40 años de su vida todo salió mal. Pasó por todo tipo de injusticia. Enfrentó racismo, fue acusado de violación, y experimentó conflictos familiares. Él fue puesto en prisión sin razón. Y fue maltratado dolorosamente año tras año. Pero Dios lo estaba cuidando, guiando y haciéndolo crecer para que estuviera listo para la grandeza.

En Génesis 50:20, José está hablando a las personas que le provocaron dolor y lo vendieron a la esclavitud. Recordando todo lo que había pasado, esto es lo que él dijo sobre el dolor que experimentó: “Ustedes se propusieron hacerme mal, pero Dios dispuso todo para bien” (NTV).

Dios está haciendo lo mismo con tu dolor. Pero debido a que no ves todo el panorama que Dios ve, a menudo te impacientas.

Cuando te desanimas y piensas que todo por lo que has pasado fue para nada, necesitas recordar Juan 13:7, donde Jesús dice: “Ahora no entiendes lo que hago, pero algún día lo entenderás” (NTV).

No puedes ver todo el panorama ahora. Nunca entenderás completamente aquí en la tierra el por qué algunas cosas te han sucedido —pero lo harás un día. Y mientras esperas, puedes confiar que Dios está trabajando y usando tu dolor para guardarte y protegerte. ¡Tu dolor no se desperdiciará!

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Qué herramientas te ha dado Dios para ayudarte a aprender a confiar en Él cuando no entiendes completamente lo que Él está haciendo?¿Por qué piensas que el dolor es tan efectivo en captar tu atención?¿Alguna experiencia que puedas recordar y ver como Dios te estaba protegiendo de un dolor más grande o peligro?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? To Pray Effectively, Get to Know God

“For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

Romans 1:20 (NIV)

The fruitfulness of your prayers doesn’t depend on how much you know about prayer but on how much you know about God. The more you understand God, the more effective your prayers are going to be.

More important than learning all about prayer is understanding more about God. It starts with knowing that God is multidimensional. That means God is in the past, present, and future. He’s on earth and in the spirit world.

Here are a few ways you can see God’s multidimensional character.

You see it in God’s creation.
The God who created a multidimensional world and universe is a multidimensional Creator. “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse” (Romans 1:20 NIV).

You can learn a lot about God just by looking at nature. For instance, you know that God likes variety, and he is organized, creative, and powerful. Creation is complex, so you know God has to be even more complex. 

You see it in Jesus’ incarnation.
John 1:14 says, “The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived among us” (GNT).

If God had wanted to communicate with ants, he would’ve become an ant. If he had wanted to communicate with cows, he would’ve become a cow. But God wanted to communicate with and love human beings, so he became one of us.

Jesus is bound by neither space nor time because he is multidimensional: “Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come” (Revelation 1:4 NIV).

You see it in how the Holy Spirit moves.
“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit” (John 3:8 NIV). 

You can’t put the Holy Spirit in a box! You can’t control him. He’s like the wind. You don’t know where it comes from, and you don’t know where it’s going. He moves in dimensions we don’t move in.

Don’t let this be the end of your study about God’s multidimensional character. Knowing God is a lifelong pursuit—one that will make your life sweeter and more meaningful each day.

Talk It Over

What are some observations about creation that show you other aspects of God’s character?
Does knowing that there are dimensions of God that you cannot understand make you more or less eager to know him better? Why?
How can you get to know God better?

Have you trusted Jesus Christ for your salvation?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ. And you don’t have to earn God’s love or work your way into heaven. The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer? If you’re ready to step across that line and make a decision to believe in Jesus Christ and follow him, pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and one day you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven.

“I confess my sin, and I believe that you are my Savior. You have promised that, if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“Jesus, I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In your name I pray. Amen.”

La Corrección de Dios No es un Castigo

“Entonces soporten esos sufrimientos como se acepta la disciplina de un padre, porque Dios lo hace como un padre que corrige a sus hijos”. Hebreos 12:7 (PDT)

¿Conoces la diferencia entre corrección y castigo?

El castigo es una consecuencia del pasado y la corrección es el entrenamiento para el futuro. La corrección es disciplina, no castigo.

Cuando sucede algo malo, a menudo pensamos que Dios nos está castigando cuando en realidad solo nos está corrigiendo. ¿Cómo podemos saber esto? Porque Dios no castiga a sus hijos. Jesús ya ha tomado todo el castigo por cada pecado en la cruz.

Cada pecado que has cometido o cometerás ya ha sido pagado. Así que Dios no te castiga por tus pecados —pero te corrige. Su corrección es la evidencia de su amor, porque Él no quiere que sigas por el camino equivocado.

Una forma en la que Dios nos corrige es a través del dolor. Hebreos 12:8-10 dice, “Si Dios no los disciplina a ustedes como lo hace con todos sus hijos, quiere decir que ustedes no son verdaderamente sus hijos, sino que son ilegítimos. Ya que respetábamos a nuestros padres terrenales que nos disciplinaban, ¿acaso no deberíamos someternos aún más a la disciplina del Padre de nuestro espíritu, y así vivir para siempre? Pues nuestros padres terrenales nos disciplinaron durante algunos años e hicieron lo mejor que pudieron, pero la disciplina de Dios siempre es buena para nosotros, a fin de que participemos de su santidad” (NTV).

Dios no corrige a los que no son sus hijos. Como un Padre, yo no corrijo a los hijos de otras personas, pero te aseguro que si corrijo a los míos. Lo hice por su bien porque quería que ellos conocieran el gozo de seguir a Dios y hacer las cosas a su manera.

Dios quiere lo mismo para ti si has elegido seguirlo y eres su hijo.

Seguir a Jesús significa cooperar cuando Dios trae cualquier tipo de corrección a tu vida —no porque Él quiera castigarte, sino porque te ama. Cuando Dios te corrige, Él no está enojado contigo. ¡Él está enojado por ti!

La Biblia dice, “Entonces soporten esos sufrimientos como se acepta la disciplina de un padre, porque Dios lo hace como un padre que corrige a sus hijos” Hebreos 12:7 (PDT).

La corrección de Dios es para tu bien, incluso cuando causa dolor.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Típicamente, no cambiamos cuando vemos la luz, cambiamos cuando sentimos el calor. ¿Qué tan cierto es esto en tu vida?¿Por qué crees que Dios solo corrige a las personas que son de su familia?Si crees que la corrección de Dios es para tu bien, ¿Cómo deberías responder cuando te disciplina?

No importa que has hecho o donde has estado, tienes un lugar eterno en la familia de Dios listo y esperando por ti. La invitación está abierta. Solo cree y recibe.

Confía en el carácter de Dios y en la gracia que extiende. Confiesa tus pecados y pídele a Dios que te perdone. Reclama la promesa de Jesús, esa salvación es gratuita y abierta a cualquiera que se vuelve de sus pecados y está dispuesto a seguirlo como su Señor y Salvador. Humildemente pídele a Dios que te acepte en su familia por la eternidad.

¿Estás listo? Aquí está una oración con la que puedes empezar: “Querido Dios, sé que cuando muera, tendré que darte cuenta de mi vida. Sé que he pecado contra ti, y he vivido por mi plan, no el tuyo. Quiero que eso cambie, comenzando ahora. Quiero volver de mis pecados hacia ti.

Gracias por enviar a Jesús a morir por todo lo que hecho mal para que yo no tenga que pagar el castigo. Sé que no merezco tu perdón. Y sé que solo tu gracia puede salvarme, Señor. Nunca seré lo suficientemente bueno para ser perfecto.

Jesús, gracias por amarte tanto que tomaste toda mi culpa sobre ti. Me hiciste aceptable para el cielo, y humildemente te pido que me salves. Creo en ti, Jesús. Y creo que mantendrás tu promesa de salvarme instantánea, segura, completa y eternamente. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén”.

God Is Good, Even When You’re in Pain

“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the LORD. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.’”

Isaiah 55:8-9 (NLT)

There probably have been many times that you’ve prayed for something and God didn’t answer the way you wanted, or you feel like he didn’t answer at all.

Does that mean prayer doesn’t work? No, you’ve seen it work too many times. Does it mean God isn’t good? No, God is good, whether you’re in pain or not. Does it mean you should give up on prayer? No! God is not a vending machine, and prayer is not a painkiller. He has not guaranteed us a pain-free life.

When you’re in pain and you pray but don’t see the answers, don’t give up. Your job is to keep praying and keep trusting God because you know that everything he allows in your life, he will use for good. God is a good, good Father, even when you’re in pain.

If a doctor cuts you open during surgery, that’s going to cause some pain. But if that surgery saves your life, you wouldn’t say the doctor was bad; you’d recognize that the painful work saved your life.

When God doesn’t immediately end your pain, he is saying to you in that moment, “This pain may feel like too much. But my grace is sufficient for you.”

I’ve had a lot of pain in my life. But almost everything I’ve learned in my life, I’ve learned through pain. That’s because God is more interested in making me a man of character than he is in making me comfortable. God is more interested in making you a man or woman of character than he is in making you comfortable. If you never had any pain or difficulty in your life, you would never grow to maturity. You don’t know God is all you need until God is all you’ve got.

“‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the LORD. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts’” (Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT).

God wants good for your life, even more than you do. Will you trust him?

Talk It Over

When have you grown spiritually through a painful experience?
Why do you think you sometimes learn more about yourself and God in times of pain than comfort?
What is the prayer you believe God has not answered yet? Besides physical deliverance, what do you think he might want you to gain from the experience?

El Dolor Puede Dirigirte Hacia Tu Propósito

“Dios usa el sufrimiento para hacernos entender”. Job 36:15 (TLA)

Incluso cuando no eres consciente de ello, Dios está dirigiendo tu vida. Proverbios 16:9 dice, “El corazón del hombre traza su rumbo, pero sus pasos los dirige el Señor” (NVI).

A Dios le agrada orientarte a través de Su Palabra. Cuando leemos y estudiamos la Biblia regularmente, eso es a menudo todo lo que necesitamos. Pero muchos de nosotros no pasamos el tiempo suficiente leyendo la Palabra de Dios, así que el dolor es otra forma en la que Él nos guiará y dirigirá.

Job 36:15 dice: “Dios usa el sufrimiento para hacernos entender” (TLA).

¿Has pensado alguna vez por qué los jinetes ponen un freno en la boca de los caballos? No es para la comodidad del caballo. Los jinetes usan la incomodidad para dirigir al caballo en una dirección diferente.

De la misma manera, el dolor te guía y dirige y a menudo te hace girar en una nueva dirección.

Cuando el Rey David se dio cuenta que Dios estaba usando el dolor en su vida para dirigirlo por el camino que Dios quería que recorriera, David estaba realmente agradecido por su dolor: “Me hizo bien haber sido afligido, porque así pude aprender tus estatutos” Salmo 119:71 (NVI).

S. Lewis dijo una vez que Dios nos susurra en nuestra comodidad, pero nos grita en nuestro dolor. El dolor es el megáfono de Dios. Nunca te deja donde te encontró. No importa lo malo que sea el dolor o de donde vino, Dios puede usarlo para dirigirte hacia tu propósito.

Pablo dijo a los creyentes en Corinto, quienes estaban experimentando algo de incomodidad y dolor, “Sin embargo, ahora me alegro, no porque se hayan entristecido, sino porque su tristeza los llevó al arrepentimiento. Ustedes se entristecieron tal como Dios lo quiere, de modo que nosotros de ninguna manera los hemos perjudicado” 2 Corintios 7:9 (NVI).

No tienes que estar contento cuando estás experimentando dolor. Pero puedes pedirle a Dios que use tu dolor para guiarte en la dirección correcta y agradecerle por todas las formas en las que provee para ti.

Because God is always good, he puts your good even above his own.

This is the Good News—that the King sacrifices himself for his people. In fairy tales, everybody dies for the king and protects the king at all costs. There’s only one story in the world where the King dies for his people. It’s called the Gospel. 

Christianity is marked by a unique storyline, different from every other religion in the world. God says you’ve sinned and deserve punishment. But that’s not the end of the story. Hope is found in Romans 6:23, where the Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (NIV). 

This means that, because God is just, somebody must pay for your sin. But because he is a good and holy God and he loves you, he made a plan to save you. He came to earth as the Son of God, Jesus Christ, and died for your sins. This is the ultimate expression of love—the King dying for his people, the Shepherd dying for his sheep.

Nobody has ever offered to pay for your sins—except God. Jesus didn’t die on the cross because of the Roman government. He died because of love. He loved you so much that he was willing to die for you because he is good and merciful.

What God did for you at the cross makes prayer possible.

“Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” (Romans 8:32 NLT)

When Jesus Christ died for you on the cross, he solved your biggest problem. Any other problem you have in your life is small to him! If God loved you enough to die for you—in his goodness—don’t you think he loves you enough to help you with your bills and your health and your relationships? Nothing is too big for God. But also, nothing you care about is too small to talk to him about.

There is nothing you can’t bring to God in prayer. He loved you enough to die for you, and he loves you enough to answer your prayers.

Talk It Over

What have you not taken to God in prayer because you thought it was too big or too small?
When you consider that Jesus solved your biggest problem on the cross, how does it change your perspective on prayer?
What will you entrust to God today because you’ve already trusted him for your salvation?

Are you ready to follow Jesus?

Then pray this simple prayer: “Father, I bring you everything that has brought me shame, regret, resentment, and worry. I don't want to live that way anymore! I want to live a life of freedom, and I know that can only be found through your Son, Jesus Christ.

“Today, I confess my sin to you and ask you to forgive me. Thank you, Jesus, that you made a way for me to be forgiven and accepted because of what you did on the cross and your resurrection. I submit to you as Lord of my life and want to follow you for the rest of my life. Please fill me with your love and hope and help me to walk in faith. I ask this in your name. Amen.”

Dios te Conoce y te Llama por tu Nombre

“Cuando Jesús pasó, miró a Zaqueo y lo llamó por su nombre: ¡Zaqueo! —le dijo—…” Lucas 19:5 (NTV)

Toda la vida Zaqueo había sido ridiculizado y rechazado, primero por su apariencia y luego por su vida pecaminosa. Pero Jesús hizo más que solo mirarlo. Al llamar a Zaqueo por su nombre, Jesús demostró que lo conocía. ¡Imagina la sorpresa que debe haber sentido Zaqueo! ¿Cómo supo Jesús su nombre?

Dios no solo sabe dónde estás, también sabe quién eres. Él sabe lo que estás pasando, por qué estás pasando por eso, y cómo te sientes al respecto. Él te conoce mejor de lo que te conoces a ti mismo. Él se preocupa por ti personalmente.

El nombre Zaqueo significa “puro”. Eso es lo último que se te viene a la mente cuando piensas en un funcionario corrupto del gobierno. Él era todo menos puro. Y, sin embargo, Jesús, llamando a Zaqueo por su nombre, estaba diciendo: “Oye, puro, hoy voy a tu casa”. Jesús estaba afirmando lo que vio en Zaqueo, no lo que era Zaqueo.

Puedes tener miedo de acercarte a Jesús porque crees que te regañará por todas las cosas que hiciste mal. Pero Jesús quiere afirmarte. Él quiere hacerte saber cuánto te ama.

“¿Puede una madre olvidar a su hijo de pecho? ¿Puede ella no sentir amor por el niño que ella ha tenido? Pero incluso si eso fuera posible, ¡no te olvidaría! Mira, he escrito tu nombre en la palma de mis manos” Isaías 49:15-16 (NTV).

Cuando Jesús murió en la cruz y extendió sus brazos y los soldados le clavaron clavos en las manos, tu nombre fue grabado allí. Cuando llegues al Cielo, no habrá cicatrices en nadie excepto en Jesús. Él va a tener esas cicatrices por la eternidad para recordarnos cuánto nos ama, una manera de decir: “¿Crees que podría olvidarte? ¡De ninguna manera! Esto es lo mucho que me importas”.

God Forgives Because He’s Good

“He does not punish us as we deserve or repay us according to our sins and wrongs. As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us.”

Psalm 103:10, 12 (GNT)

God always gives you what you need, not what you deserve.

“He does not punish us as we deserve or repay us according to our sins and wrongs. As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our sins from us” (Psalm 103:10, 12 GNT).

There is no end to the east and west. God takes your sins and completely wipes them out.

When King David in the Bible committed adultery and then covered it up by having Bathsheba’s husband murdered, did David deserve to be forgiven? No. Did David deserve mercy? No. But David knew that God is a good God, and so he asked for mercy: “Be merciful to me, O God, because of your constant love. Because of your great mercy wipe away my sins! Wash away all my evil and make me clean from my sin!” (Psalm 51:1-2 GNT).

When you sin, you can pray that same prayer. And you can pray it confidently because it’s based on who God is, not who you are or what you’ve done.

God forgives you, not because you’re good but because he is good. You don’t have to try to be good enough. You’ll never be good enough! That’s what’s so amazing about God’s grace.

When you ask for God’s forgiveness, he forgives you immediately and completely. This is a big deal. Whatever you’ve done, God doesn’t reject you when you sin. He receives you with open, loving arms.

This is amazing to us because it’s the exact opposite of what people do. When you sin against someone, do they want to receive you back? Absolutely not. They want to be distant and push you away. They don’t want to receive you—because you’ve hurt them.

But God is love and full of goodness. He loves you because love is his nature. His goodness and love are the reasons you get what you need, not what you deserve.

You don’t deserve grace and forgiveness—none of us do. Thank God he gives it to us anyway!

Talk It Over

Why does God want you to come to him and ask forgiveness when you already know he forgives you?
What does it mean for God to receive you after you’ve sinned? How have you experienced this?
Since Jesus has shown you such great mercy, how should you forgive others?

God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ.

The Bible says, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 CSB).

Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life with him? If so, start by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I confess I have sinned against you, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son, that he died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
