Faith Is Thanking God in Advance

“When you pray and ask for something, believe that you have received it, and you will be given whatever you ask for.”

Mark 11:24 (GNT)

Faith is not just believing God can do something. Faith is not just hoping he will do something. Faith is thanking God in advance.

Jesus said, “When you pray and ask for something, believe that you have received it, and you will be given whatever you ask for” (Mark 11:24 GNT).

You say, “Wait a minute! I’ve got to thank God in advance before I get it in order to get it?” Yes. If you thank God after you’ve got it, that’s gratitude. When you thank him in advance, that’s faith.

Gratitude is good and right. But your goal should be to become a person of deeper faith. To do that, you have to thank God in advance.

If I handed you a check right now for a thousand dollars, would you wait until you cashed it to thank me? No! You’d thank me right now. But the money wouldn’t be yours until you actually cashed it, because that check is really a promise. When I gave you that check, you’d say, “Thank you, Rick.” You’d believe that I was credible and that I had enough money in the bank to cover that check for a thousand dollars.

In the same way, faith is thanking God in advance. It’s believing that what God has promised, he will provide. It’s saying you love God for who he is and not just what he can do for you. It’s showing you trust him to do what he’s said he will do.

One day two blind men followed Jesus to the home where he was staying. They shouted at him to have mercy on them, and Jesus asked them if they had faith that he could heal them. They answered that they believed, and Jesus said, “Because of your faith, it will happen” (Matthew 9:29 NLT).

What I’m saying is this: If God tells you to go after Moby Dick in a rowboat, take the tartar sauce with you. You’re going to have a fish fry tonight!

Talk It Over

Es Tu Decisión Regocijarte en el Problema

“Amados hermanos, cuando tengan que enfrentar cualquier tipo de problemas, considérenlo como un tiempo para alegrarse mucho”. Santiago 1:2 (NTV)

No importa qué retos o dificultades enfrentes, puedes confiar en que Dios está viendo la situación por la que estás atravesando.

Por eso es por lo que la Biblia dice que te puedes regocijar cuando enfrentas problemas: “Amados hermanos, cuando tengan que enfrentar cualquier tipo de problemas, considérenlo como un tiempo para alegrarse mucho” Santiago 1:2 (NTV).

Es fácil malinterpretar este versículo. Dios no está diciendo que seas un mártir. Él no está negando la realidad. Él no está diciendo finge hasta que lo logres.

Nosotros no nos regocijamos por el problema. Aun así podemos regocijarnos durante el problema a causa de la verdad que sabemos.

¿Y cuál es esa verdad? Sabemos que Dios ve y le importa todo por lo que estamos pasando. Sabemos que nunca estamos solos, que Dios siempre está con nosotros. Sabemos que Él nos dará la fuerza si confiamos en Él.

Uno de los mayores consuelos cuando estás pasando por dificultades es la promesa de Dios en Romanos 8:28: “Y sabemos que Dios hace que todas las cosas cooperen para el bien de quienes lo aman…” (NTV).

Dios ha prometido sacar lo bueno de lo malo para nosotros —en todo. ¡Eso incluye la pandemia! Eso no es una promesa para todos. Es una promesa para los creyentes, aquellos que lo aman y están comprometidos a vivir de acuerdo con Su propósito.

Cuando te encuentras en un tiempo difícil, el gozo es una opción, porque puedes confiar en la bondad de Dios. El gozo no se basa en las circunstancias, y es por eso que es tu decisión regocijarte sin importar cual sea la situación.

El gozo está basado en lo que sabemos que es verdadero, y está basado en nuestra fe en que Dios cumplirá su promesa de hacer que todo obre para bien, de acuerdo con su propósito.

En Salmos 34:1, el Rey David dijo, “Alabaré al SEÑOR en todo tiempo; a cada momento pronunciaré sus alabanzas” (NTV). Aún ahora, deberíamos dar gracias a Dios. Alaba a Dios. Regocíjate en Dios —no solo en los buenos tiempos. En todo momento.

Tell It Like God Wants It to Be

“[God] speaks of future events with as much certainty as though they were already past.”

Romans 4:17 (TLB)

Your words have enormous power. If you’re going to become a woman or man of faith, you have to change the way you talk. You have to announce it in order to experience it.

Sometimes speaking in faith appears totally foolish, arrogant, and out of touch with reality to people who don’t understand faith. Abraham knew about this. God came to Abram one day and said, “Abram, I’m going to change your name from Abram to Abraham.” Abraham means “the father of a great nation.”

There was only one problem: Abraham was 99 years old, and he had no kids. He was probably ruthlessly ridiculed for his name. But God says we don’t live in the world of human reality. We live in the world of spiritual reality. When you see the world with spiritual eyes, you see it not as it is but as it can be, as it should be, and as God wants it to be.

Romans 4:17 says God “speaks of future events with as much certainty as though they were already past” (TLB). That’s called speaking in faith—you announce it in order to experience it.

Yet you may hear some people say, “I just tell it like it is.” They criticize this and put that down. They can be fairly negative—because there are a lot of reasons in the world to be negative.

That’s one way to do it. But there’s a better way. Instead of telling it like it is, you can tell it like it could be! Telling it like it is has never changed anybody. It only makes people defensive.

For example, you could say to someone, “You’re a lousy father. You don’t spend any time with your kids because your career is more important.” But when you label someone, you reinforce it.

Instead, you could say, “I see in you the potential for greatness. If you let Jesus Christ take control of your life, you won’t be perfect, but you can become a godly man of character that your kids admire.” That’s the kind of talk that motivates change!

Remember—you don’t have to tell it like it is. Tell it like it could be, like it should be, like God wants it to be. Speak it in advance and in faith, and then watch how God works.

Dios Quiere Darte Sabiduría

“Si alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, pídasela a Dios. Él se la dará, porque Dios da a todos en abundancia sin hacer ningún reproche. Pero debe pedirla con fe, sin dudar, ya que el que duda es como las olas del mar que el viento agita y lleva de un lado a otro”. Santiago 1:5-6 (NBV)

¿Estás pasando por un tiempo difícil ahora mismo?  ¡Tú no estás solo! Las personas alrededor del mundo están sintiendo los efectos de la pandemia, y ha ocasionado daños en nuestra salud mental, física y emocional. Hay muchas incertidumbres y preguntas sobre cómo seguir con nuestras vidas en esta crisis en curso. Todos estamos luchando.

La Biblia nos dice exactamente qué debemos hacer cuando no sabemos qué hacer y estamos sintiendo la presión de hacer lo correcto.

“Si alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, pídasela a Dios. Él se la dará, porque Dios da a todos en abundancia sin hacer ningún reproche. Pero debe pedirla con fe, sin dudar, ya que el que duda es como las olas del mar que el viento agita y lleva de un lado a otro” Santiago 1:5-6 (NBV).

Dios no está reteniendo la sabiduría. Él da sabiduría a cualquiera que se la pida.

¿Le has pedido a Dios que te de sabiduría sobre cómo manejar la pandemia? ¿Le has pedido sabiduría sobre qué hacer con tu trabajo, tu futuro, tus hijos, tu salud, o cualquier cosa con la que estás luchando? Dios le da sabiduría a cualquiera que se la pida.

El Rey Salomón, uno de los hombres más ricos y más exitosos que jamás ha vivido, tenía todo lo que necesitaba y todo lo que hubiera querido en la vida. Pero él le pidió a Dios sabiduría. Él sabía que las riquezas y el poder y la comodidad no significaban nada, si él no tenía la capacidad de tomar decisiones sabias. Él quería honrar a Dios —quien le dio todo lo que tenía— así que pidió sabiduría para saber qué hacer y cómo hacerlo.

La sabiduría te ayuda a aprender de cualquier problema que estés experimentando. Te ayuda a saber qué hacer y cómo proseguir de una manera que agrade a Dios. Él usa todos los retos para desarrollarte, no para derrotarte.

Puede parecer que el mundo está dando vueltas sin control y las circunstancias siguen cambiando día a día. Tu estrés, tus miedos, y tus preocupaciones pudieran estar constantemente en su punto más alto.

Pregúntale a Dios qué quiere que aprendas de este tiempo de crisis y qué quiere que hagas. Él ha prometido darte sabiduría en abundancia.

Obey Because God Says So

“It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before.”

Hebrews 11:7 (NLT)

Faith is obedience when you don’t understand. In the New Testament alone, there are 1,050 commands—and they’re all for your benefit.

God often says things that seem confusing, such as, “Love your enemies” and “Forgive the people who hurt you.” That’s not easy! Many commands in the Bible seem difficult, unreasonable, unrealistic, unachievable, and even impossible. But when God says things like, “You should save sex for marriage,” he’s not being mean. He says it because he knows more than you do what’s best and what will make you happy.

Every time God tells you to do something, it’s a test of your faith. The question is this: Do you trust God, or do you trust your gut? Do you trust the Word, or do you trust the world?

Will you obey?

As a kid, did your parents ever ask you to do something that seemed unreasonable? When you asked, “Why should I do this?” they would say, “Because I said so!” Looking back, were the things your parents told you to do “because they said so” the right thing? Yes. Can you see in hindsight how they were wise?

Just like he did with Noah, God will ask you to do things you don’t understand for the rest of your life, not just when you’re a kid. When you’re 80 years old, God will say, “I want you to do this.” And you’ll ask, “Why? That doesn’t make sense.” And God will say, “Because I said so.”

Situations like these are a test. Faith is believing when you don’t see it, but it’s also obeying when you don’t understand it. If you don’t learn to obey, you’ll miss out on so many blessings has in store for you.

But if you learn to do what God tells you to do without question, even when it seems absurd and the exact opposite of your natural tendency, then you will grow in faith—and be blessed.

No Enfrentarás el Futuro Solo

“Cuando pases por aguas profundas de gran tribulación, yo estaré contigo. Cuando pases por ríos no te ahogarás. Cuando pases por fuego no te quemará, las llamas no te consumirán”. Isaías 43:2 (NBV)

Este es un tiempo estresante e inestable. Y quizás sientas que estás atravesándolo sólo.

¡Pero no estás solo! Dios ve por lo que estás pasando. A Dios le importa. Él está justo a tu lado, no importa la situación o circunstancia que puedas estar enfrentando.

No hay nada que temer cuando tú sabes que Dios está cerca. No importa lo que puedas enfrentar en el futuro, nunca lo enfrentarás sólo. Deuteronomio 31:6 dice, “Sé fuerte. Sé valiente. No temas delante de ellos porque el SEÑOR tu Dios estará contigo, no te dejará ni te abandonará” (NBV).

Satanás plantará todo tipo de semillas de duda y miedo en tu mente tales como, “¿y qué si te enfermas?” “¿qué si la economía entra en recesión?” Tú podrías enfrentar ansiedad de otras fuentes también.

Entrega esos miedos a Jesús y recuerda que Dios prometió nunca abandonarte. No tienes que saber lo que ampara el futuro porque tú sabes quién sostiene el futuro. Dios promete, “Cuando pases por ríos no te ahogarás…”

Believe It So You Can See It

“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.”

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)

Faith is visualizing the future. It’s believing in something before you see it. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see” (NLT).

A lot of people say, “I’ll believe it when I see it!” God says the exact opposite is true: “You’ll see it when you first believe it.” Many things in life must be believed before they can be seen.

In the 1960s, the Soviet Union sent the first cosmonaut into outer space. He circled the earth, and when he came back down, he did a press conference and said, “I searched the heavens, and I looked for God, and I did not see him anywhere. Therefore, there is no God.” The Communists, an atheistic regime, concluded, “We now have scientific proof that there is no God.”

About six months later, John Glenn, an astronaut from the U.S., went into space, circled the earth three times, came back down, and held a press conference. He said, “I saw God everywhere! I saw his glory in the galaxy. I saw his splendor in the universe. I saw his majesty in the stars.”

Jesus said, “Unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God” (John 3:3 NLT). Before there is spiritual transformation in your life, you’re too narrow-minded to see the possibility of what God is doing in the world around you. This is true of every person. Faith comes before seeing.

It is faith that causes an architect to design a building, first believing it can be done. It is faith that causes an Olympic athlete to practice and go to the Olympic trials because she believes she can win. It is faith that causes the scientist to believe that we can put a man on the moon.

It is a universal principle of life: You have to believe it before you see it. When you have faith, you will see the amazing things God is doing in you, through you, and around you.

El Perdonado Debería Perdonar

“Sopórtense unos a otros y perdonen a quienes se quejan de ustedes. Si el Señor los perdonó, ustedes están obligados a perdonar”. Colosenses 3:13 (NBV)

Nosotros perdonamos porque hemos sido perdonados.

Dios espera que nosotros mostremos gracia a los demás porque Él mostró gracia a nosotros. Él demostró su amor enviando a Cristo a morir por nosotros, aun cuando nosotros todavía estábamos en rebelión a Él. (Romanos 5:8).

A veces es más fácil ser egoístas que mostrar gracia. Tú ves al cajero lento en la fila de la tienda de comestibles como una interrupción de cinco minutos a tu día en vez de ver a alguien que pudiera estar luchando por mantener su trabajo, alguien que acaba de recibir la peor noticia de su vida hace unos minutos atrás.

Tú ves a esa persona en tu familia que está luchando como alguien que te drena en vez de ver su desesperanza en una situación desesperante. Tú ves a la persona que se te atravesó en la carretera como un villano en vez de verlo como a alguien que necesita del amor de Dios.

Todos nosotros necesitamos el amor de Dios. Es por eso por lo que Jesucristo vino a este mundo. Y mostrarles a las personas gracia es recordar lo que Dios ha hecho por nosotros. La forma definitiva de Dios de mostrarnos su gracia es por medio del perdón. Y la forma definitiva que Él pide que mostremos gracia a otros es también por medio de nuestro perdón hacia ellos.

Las personas me preguntan con frecuencia, “¿Cómo consigo la fuerza para perdonar? No la tengo en mí”.

¡La verdad es que, yo no la tengo en mí tampoco! El único lugar donde he encontrado la fuerza para perdonar es recordando cuánto Jesús me ha perdonado a mí. A través de ese recordatorio, Él me da la fuerza y gracia para perdonar a otros.

Hay una historia sobre una mujer llamada Clara Barton, quien fundó la Cruz Roja Americana. Una amiga le recordó a ella sobre algo particularmente cruel que alguien le había hecho años atrás. La amiga le preguntó, “¿No te acuerdas?”. Su famosa contestación fue, “No, yo recuerdo distintivamente haberlo olvidado”.

¿Qué necesitas olvidar? ¿A quién necesitas perdonar? Si tú no perdonas, no podrás ser capaz de disfrutar la visión de Dios para el resto de tu vida ya que estarás atrapado en el pasado. Pero cuando tú perdonas, podrás seguir hacia adelante con tu vida.

Perdonar no significa que la persona que te hizo daño tenía la razón. Y no vuelve correcto lo que esa persona hizo. Tú puedes perdonar, y ellos todavía tendrán que enfrentar las consecuencias de lo que sucedió.

Cuando perdonar a alguien parezca imposible, recuerda una cosa: Jesús te perdonó.

Sow Generously to Reap Generously

“Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV)

When it comes to your giving, there are two principles you need to remember, and they’re based on 2 Corinthians 9:6-8: “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (NIV).

The first is the principle of harvest: What you sow, you’re going to reap—for good or for bad. In other words, you’ll harvest whatever you plant. That’s true about money, but it’s true about everything else, too.

If you sow criticism, people will criticize you. If you sow gossip, guess what? Others will gossip about you. If you plant resentment, people will resent you.

What do you need more of? Whatever it is, give it away, and you’ll get more back. Do you need more energy? Then you have to spend energy through exercise. Do you need more affirmation in your life? Give it away by affirming other people.

If you take a kernel of corn and plant it in the ground, do you get one kernel back? No! I’ve actually planted corn in my yard before. When you plant one kernel in the ground, you don’t get one kernel back. You get a stalk with a bunch of ears and thousands of kernels. When you plant an avocado pit, it grows a tree. Do you get one avocado back? No. You get hundreds back. You always get back more than you put in.

The second principle is that there’s always a delay between planting and harvest. When you plant a seed in the ground, you don’t get an ear of corn the next day. You plant in one season, and you harvest in another.

The same is true in giving. You give to other people. You give to God. You give your life away—but you don’t reap the results the next day. There is a season of waiting before God gives you the harvest. Why? Because God is testing your faith to see if you’ll trust him while there’s a delay between planting and harvesting.

While you’re planting and waiting, you can trust God will provide grace so that “having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

Remember these two principles: First, you reap what you sow; second, you plant in one season but have to wait and harvest in another. Learn these principles and apply them to your life—and you will have so much joy in giving!

Cómo La Amabilidad Calma el Conflicto

“La respuesta apacible desvía el enojo, pero las palabras ásperas encienden los ánimos”. Proverbios 15:1 (NTV)

Aquí hay una escena común: alguien levanta su voz en contra tuya, y tú levantas tu voz en respuesta. Entonces ellos levantan la voz más alto, así que tú levantas tu voz aún más alto. Y la situación sigue aumentando.

Algunos científicos sugieren que hacemos esto por causa de neuronas espejo en nuestro cerebro que tienen el propósito de darnos la habilidad de ser empáticos con otros e incluso imitar lo que ellos sienten. Pero, sin control, podemos comenzar a imitar la ira y antagonismo de alguien en una discusión.

Déjame darte un pequeño consejo que te ahorrará muchas angustias y conflictos en tu vida: Cuando otras personas levanten su voz, baja la tuya —en tu matrimonio, en la crianza de tus hijos, en tus relaciones de amistad y en el trabajo. Eso se llama fuerza bajo control.

La Biblia dice, “La respuesta apacible desvía el enojo, pero las palabras ásperas encienden los ánimos” Proverbios 15:1 (NTV).

La amabilidad dispersa el conflicto. Reduce la ira.

Cuando alguien levanta su voz con ira, en vez de ponerte a la defensiva, practica la amabilidad. Permite que tu contestación amable desarme a la otra persona y disperse la situación.

¿Por qué piensas que responder amablemente en lugar de responder con ira es tan conciliador? ¿Por qué capta la atención de las personas?¿Cómo puedes volverte sensible a identificar cuando estás intensificando una discusión?Busca formas de practicar la amabilidad esta semana. ¿Cómo reaccionan las personas cuando tú les respondes con amabilidad?
