En lugar de Resistir la Tentación, Cambia tu Enfoque

“Y llevamos cautivo todo pensamiento para que se someta a Cristo”. 2 Corintios 10: 5 (NVI)

La razón por la que la tentación nos derrota fácilmente es porque tratamos de resistirla en lugar de reenfocarnos. Lo que resistes, persiste.

Cuanto más piensas en algo, más te atrae. Entonces, si quieres vencer la tentación, no luches contra ella. ¡Cambia tu enfoque!

“No te dejes vencer por el mal; al contrario, vence el mal con el bien” Romanos 12:21 (NVI). Si tu mente está llena de buenos pensamientos, no hay lugar para pensamientos que puedan tentarte a pecar.

Durante la pandemia, mientras te quedas en casa más tiempo, puedes enfrentarte a tentaciones recurrentes. Cualesquiera que sean esas áreas, te desanimarás si sigues tratando de luchar contra ellas, especialmente si cedes continuamente.

La clave es volver a enfocar tu atención en otra cosa. Aquí tienes un ejemplo: si eres tentado mientras miras televisión, no te sigas diciendo: “No voy a ver esto”. En su lugar, toma el control remoto y cambia el canal.

La tentación siempre comienza con un pensamiento. Si Satanás no puede llamar tu atención, no puedes ser tentado. Los anunciantes utilizan la misma táctica. Captan tu atención y luego involucran tus emociones. Entonces pasas de la atención a las emociones y a la acción.

¿Alguna vez has experimentado esto? Alguien te pregunta: “¿Tienes hambre en este momento?” Y aunque no tengas hambre, comienzas a sentir hambre. O preguntan: “¿Estás cansado?” Y respondes: “Sabes, en realidad no había pensado en eso, pero ahora que lo mencionas, me siento un poco agotado”.

Lo que sea que llame tu atención, te atrapará.

Por eso, cuando eres tentado, necesitas cambiar tu enfoque. Filipenses 4:8 dice: “Y ahora, amados hermanos, una cosa más para terminar. Concéntrense en todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo honorable, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo bello y todo lo admirable. Piensen en cosas excelentes y dignas de alabanza” (NTV).

Cuanto más luches contra un pensamiento o sentimiento tentador, más te controlará. ¡Así que no luches contra eso! Vuelve a enfocar y reemplaza tus pensamientos con cosas que sean buenas y te hagan más como Jesús.

It’s All About God

“For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory.”

Romans 11:36 (TLB)

It’s not about you.

It’s all about God.

Those two go together. The reason it’s not about you is because it’s all about God.

Until you understand this, life is never going to make sense. Until you understand this, I’m not going to make sense to you. The goal of my life is not pleasure, possessions, prestige, politics, power, or popularity. It’s not anything that the world values. The goal of my life is the glory of God.

Romans 11:36 says, “For everything comes from God alone. Everything lives by his power, and everything is for his glory” (TLB). Everything on the planet and in the universe was created for God’s glory.

What’s the implication of that?

If it’s all about God and it’s not all about you—or about making money or being popular or any of those other things the world thinks are important—then the implication is that loving God is your first priority. Jesus said it like this: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:37-38 TLB).

Nothing tops this truth, folks! If you miss this, you’ve wasted your life. The most important thing in life is to love and get to know the God who created you.

How do you do that? Start by reading his Word, the Bible. It’s not always the easy choice to make time for Bible study, but when you do, you’ll learn more about God and find your love for him deepened. And, as you start to understand that your life is about God, not you, you’ll find more joy in the pursuit of him.

Cómo Pasar del Dolor al Gozo

“… A todos los que se lamentan en Israel les dará una corona de belleza en lugar de cenizas, una gozosa bendición en lugar de luto, una festiva alabanza en lugar de desesperación…” Isaías 61:3 (NTV)

Muchos de nosotros estamos sufriendo en este momento debido a la pérdida de un trabajo, el cierre de una empresa o un problema de salud, incluido el temor de que tú o alguien que conoces pueda contraer COVID-19.

También estamos sufriendo por el cierre de escuelas, la cancelación de ceremonias de graduación y la postergación de bodas. No hemos podido visitar a familiares y amigos, incluso cuando estaban gravemente enfermos en el hospital. Y, lamentablemente, algunos de nosotros no hemos podido lamentar la pérdida de un ser querido a través de un funeral tradicional.

Sin embargo, Dios promete que para todos los que lloran, “…A todos los que se lamentan en Israel les dará una corona de belleza en lugar de cenizas, una gozosa bendición en lugar de luto, una festiva alabanza en lugar de desesperación…” Isaías 61:3 (NTV).

El mejor ejemplo de cómo Dios transforma el dolor en gozo es la resurrección de Jesucristo. Después de ser crucificado, los discípulos de Jesús pasaron dos días por el miedo, el dolor y la pena más profunda que cualquiera pueda experimentar. Aunque Jesús prometió a sus discípulos que regresaría de entre los muertos, ellos no pudieron comprender la realidad de eso a través de su dolor.

Pero una vez que los discípulos vieron a Jesús resucitado, comprendieron que el pecado y la muerte habían sido derrotados. Fueron liberados de sus miedos y ansiedades. Y en ese lanzamiento, volvieron a encontrar alegría.

A medida que te aferres a las promesas de Dios durante estos días oscuros, tú también encontrarás la liberación de tus miedos y ansiedades, y volverás a encontrar gozo.

¿Cómo puede pasar eso? Confiando en el poder de Dios, el mismo poder que resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos. Puede transformar las cenizas en belleza, el dolor en alegría y la desesperación en alabanza.

La única forma de llegar al Cielo es confiando en el Hijo de Dios, Jesucristo. “Dios nos hace justos a sus ojos cuando ponemos nuestra fe en Jesucristo. Y eso es verdad para todo el que cree, sea quien fuere. Pues todos hemos pecado; nadie puede alcanzar la meta gloriosa establecida por Dios. Sin embargo, Dios nos declara justos gratuita y bondadosamente por medio de Cristo Jesús, quien nos liberó del castigo de nuestros pecados” Romanos 3:22-24 (NTV).

Vivimos en tiempos de incertidumbre, así que, si aún no lo has hecho, busca lo único que es absolutamente seguro: el perdón y la esperanza que solo se encuentran en Jesús.

Si estás listo para entregarle tu vida a Jesús, entonces haz esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, me has prometido que, si creo en ti, todo lo que he hecho mal será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida y algún día me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el Cielo”.

“Confieso mi pecado y creo que tú eres Dios, mi Salvador. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Hoy, entrego cada parte de mi vida a tu dirección. Tienes derecho a tomar las decisiones en mi vida”.

“Jesús, quiero descansar en tu amor. Gracias porque no tengo que ganarlo, merecerlo o trabajar para conseguirlo. Quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Te entrego humildemente mi vida y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. En el nombre de Jesús hago esta oración. Amén”.

Nothing Can Separate You from God’s Love

“Live and act in a way worthy of those who have been chosen for such wonderful blessings as these.”

Ephesians 4:1 (TLB)

God will never ever stop loving you. You will always be loved. Nothing can destroy your relationship with God. If you grasp this fact, it will change your life.

Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels won’t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God’s love away. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are—high above the sky, or in the deepest ocean—nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when he died for us” (TLB).

When you put your hand in God’s hand, he grasps it—and never lets go. You might feel like letting go at times. But God never will. You are eternally secure.

Once you are born into a family, you can’t be unborn out of it. Once you’re born again, you can’t be unborn out of the family of God. Once your name is written in the eternal book of life, it can’t be erased. It’s indelible ink.

It doesn’t matter how many doubts or fears you have or how many sins you commit. If you put your trust in Christ, he says nothing—nothing!—will separate you from his love. No matter what you face in life, you will never face it alone.

This is the Good News: You are forgiven, and you are free. God is for you, and he’s never going to stop loving you.

Understanding this Good News is the most important thing for you, and for every other person on this planet. It’s why thousands of people have committed to pray for and give to Daily Hope so that we can spread this message of hope. It’s why Saddleback Church was built. It’s why we train pastors around the world. It’s why we do student ministry, children’s ministry, and hundreds of other ministries.

And it’s why countless other churches around the globe are doing similar things every day. Because no one else can offer what Jesus Christ offers: a life of freedom, forgiveness, power, peace, and purpose that goes on and on for eternity.

What should be your response? “Live and act in a way worthy of those who have been chosen for such wonderful blessings as these” (Ephesians 4:1 TLB).

Live in a way that’s worthy. Live with hope, and share that hope with others.

Cómo Mantenerte Estable en Vientos Cambiantes

“Asegúrense de que su fe sea solamente en Dios, y no duden, porque una persona que duda tiene la lealtad dividida y es tan inestable como una ola del mar que el viento arrastra y empuja de un lado a otro. Esas personas no deberían esperar nada del Señor; su lealtad está dividida entre Dios y el mundo, y son inestables en todo lo que hacen”. Santiago 1:6-8 (NTV)

¿Alguna vez has tomado una decisión difícil, pero luego, en el momento en que tomaste la decisión, comenzaste a dudar de ti mismo? Agonizaste por ello. Seguías preguntándote si hiciste lo correcto.

La Biblia dice que cuando haces esto eres como una ola empujada en una tormenta. Tienes tantas dudas y te mantienes vacilante porque dependes de tu sabiduría, no de la de Dios.

Es por eso, por lo que Dios quiere que le pidas guía antes de tomar una decisión, y luego confíes en Él y en Su bondad una vez que tomes la decisión.

Cuando lo haces, te liberas de cuestionarte.

Estas son las buenas noticias: incluso si los vientos siguen cambiando y el futuro parece incierto, no es necesario que te sacudan de un lado a otro. Pon tu fe en Dios y solo en Dios.

De lo contrario, Santiago dice que tu lealtad se dividirá entre Dios y el mundo. En algunas traducciones de Santiago 1:8, esta lealtad dividida se traduce como “de doble ánimo”. Esto proviene de una palabra griega que significa de dos almas. Se trata de ser empujado en direcciones opuestas. Se trata de ser indeciso, vacilar de un lado a otro.

Santiago dice que no debes esperar que Dios te dé su sabiduría si constantemente te cuestionas a ti mismo.

El doble ánimo crea una vida espiritual inestable. Bloqueas tus oraciones y evitas que recibas la sabiduría de Dios.

¡Dios quiere darte sabiduría! Cuando confías inequívocamente en Dios en tiempos de incertidumbre, en todo momento, Él te dará todo lo que necesitas para tomar decisiones sabias.

There Is More to Your Story

“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”

Romans 8:11 (NLT)

As believers, we have hope because we are going to live forever. Death is not the end. There is more to the story!

One day your heart will stop beating, and that will be the end of your body. But it’s not going to be the end of you. You were made in God’s image. You were made to last forever. This is not all there is.

Why do we have hope? Because no matter how bad it seems on earth, it’s just for a while. When you have faith in Jesus, you know you’re going to spend trillions of years on the other side of eternity with no more sorrow, no more sadness, no more sickness, no more suffering.

The Bible says in Romans 8:11, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you” (NLT).

As a pastor, I’ve stood at the graveside of hundreds of families, and I know the difference between people with hope and those without. You can see it in their eyes. I’ve seen the terror in the eyes of people without hope. They’re thinking, “This is all I have. It’s over. I will never see this person again. It’s done. That’s all there is to life.”

I compare that to the thousands of people I’ve seen at funerals of a believer. They know this is just a transition step. Their loved one is entering real life! They’re going to be with God for eternity. There is grief, of course, but also hope, because they know they will be reunited one day with their loved one who followed Jesus. For a believer, death is not leaving home—it’s a homecoming.

Do you have that hope, knowing you’ll spend eternity with Jesus Christ? If not, don’t delay. Make that decision today.

Talk It Over

Salvation in Jesus Christ makes all the difference in eternity. But how does it affect how you live your life on earth too?

Once you trust in Jesus, you can be absolutely certain that you’ll spend eternity with him. If you’re ready to take that step, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe that you are God, my Savior. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning every part of my life over to you. I want to follow you and do what you tell me to do.

“Jesus, I am grateful for your love and your sacrifice that makes it possible for me to join you in heaven. I know I don’t deserve it. And I thank you that I don’t have to earn or work for my salvation, because I know that is impossible. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I humbly commit my life to you, and I ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Los Amigos Creyentes te Ayudan a Tomar Buenas Decisiones

“Camina con sabios y te harás sabio; júntate con necios y te meterás en dificultades”. Proverbios 13:20 (NTV)

Cuando confías en Dios para tomar decisiones difíciles, Él te da sabiduría cuando se la pides. Una forma en que lo hace es dirigiéndote a personas que conocen y practican su Palabra. Te da conexiones con personas creyentes que te orientarán en la dirección correcta.

Necesitas conseguir algunas personas en tu vida que amen y obedezcan la Biblia. Nunca fuiste destinado a practicar la sabiduría de Dios por tu cuenta.

Proverbios 13:20 dice: “Camina con sabios y te harás sabio; júntate con necios y te meterás en dificultades” (NTV).

Esto es importante porque la calidad de tu vida y la calidad de tus decisiones estarán determinadas por con quién pasas más tiempo.

¿La gente con la que pasas tiempo te ayuda o te lastima? ¿Está construyendo tu fe o tu miedo? ¿Está haciendo que adores a Dios o que te preocupes? ¿Alivian o te generan estrés en tu vida?

Este tiempo de distanciamiento social presenta algunos desafíos únicos para obedecer este versículo. ¡No estamos pasando tiempo con otras personas como solíamos hacerlo!

Durante esta temporada de incertidumbre y aislamiento, todavía puedes mantener la compañía de personas sabias. Por ejemplo, la tecnología te permite mantenerte en contacto a través del teléfono o el video. Entonces, mantén la intención de conectarte con las personas todos los días, personas que te animarán y te orientarán a la Palabra de Dios y te ayudarán a tomar decisiones sabias.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

Let God Tell You What to Give

“Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income, and he will fill your barns with wheat and barley and overflow your wine vats with the finest wines.”

Proverbs 3:9 (TLB)

You can give by reason or by revelation. If you’re going to become a person of faith, you have to learn to give by revelation.

When you give by reason, you say, “This is what I can reasonably give.” It doesn’t require any faith to give by reason.

Giving by revelation is when you say, “God, what do you want to give through me? How much do you want me to trust you for in this particular instance?”

My wife, Kay, and I have been tested many times on giving when we didn’t have it—and we’ve always found God faithful.

One of the most dramatic examples was when we raised money to build Saddleback Church’s building back in 1993. People made commitments to give over a three-year period. So Kay and I prayed and believed we heard God telling us to give an amount that certainly wasn’t reasonable. In fact, it was more than we could afford. But we trusted God for that amount.

Then God challenged me through 1 Chronicles 29 to announce my gift, like King David did, so that it would encourage and challenge our church. I really didn’t want to for many reasons—including not wanting to appear prideful. But God told me to do it. And I wanted him to bless that building, so I did. I stood in front of my church one Sunday and said, “I don’t know where the money is coming from, but we have committed to give $100,000 over the next three years. Please pray for me.”

A month later, the Friday before the weekend where we would take up the special offering, I got a call from Zondervan publishing company. They said, “Rick, we want you to write a book and call it The Purpose Driven Church. We believe it’s going to be a bestseller, so we’re going to send you an advance of $150,000.”

When I stood in front of my church family a few days later and told them that story, the place went wild. The church was jumping, shouting, dancing, and singing. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life—and I nearly missed it because of my own stubbornness. If I hadn’t publicly gone on record to show my trust in God’s revelation, the church and I would have missed seeing how God is dependable. It was a lesson I will never forget.

The Bible says, “Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income, and he will fill your barns with wheat and barley and overflow your wine vats with the finest wines” (Proverbs 3:9 TLB).

In other words, give by revelation, not by reason. When you do, I promise that you’ll find God faithful.

Oración

Querido Dios, admito que tengo temor, pero quiero conocerte. No lo entiendo todo, pero te agradezco que hayas estado conmigo incluso cuando no te reconocía. Gracias por enviar a tu hijo Jesús para salvarme y no para condenarme.

Admito que nunca pensé que necesitara un Salvador, pero hoy quiero recibir el regalo de la salvación. Confieso que he pecado, hice cosas que no querías que hiciera. Te pido perdón y agradezco que hayas enviado a tu hijo Jesús para salvarme de todos mis pecados, y limpiarme a través de su sacrificio en la cruz. Te pido que me salves de mis remordimientos y errores. Necesito que quites de mí el estrés, la carga del pecado y me llenes con tu amor. Necesito estar en paz contigo y necesito que pongas tu paz en mi corazón. Gracias por amarme desde antes que naciera, gracias por caminar siempre a mi lado, sé que has anhelado este momento y siempre has esperado que viniera a ti.

Quiero desde hoy en adelante aprender a amarte, confiar en ti y tener una relación contigo, deseo saber para qué me has puesto en la tierra, quiero cumplir con el propósito para el cual me creaste, quiero despertar cada mañana buscando hacer tu voluntad y agradándote en todo.

Oro en el nombre de tu hijo Jesús, amén.

La Palabra de Dios: Aquello en lo que Crees, es lo que Haces

“Pero si miras atentamente en la ley perfecta que te hace libre y la pones en práctica y no olvidas lo que escuchaste, entonces Dios te bendecirá por tu obediencia”.  Santiago 1:25 (NTV)

Muchas personas conocen la Biblia, pero para ser bendecidos por ella, tenemos que hacer lo que dice.

Actúas de acuerdo con lo que crees, lo que significa que tu comportamiento y actitudes son un reflejo de lo que crees que es verdad. Así que piénsalo de esta manera: Las únicas partes de la Biblia que realmente crees son las partes que pones en práctica.

Si lo que dices que crees no cambia la forma en que vives tu vida, entonces probablemente no lo creas. Es por eso por lo que cuando tienes una decisión difícil de tomar, necesitas recordar:  “El camino de Dios es perfecto. Todas las promesas del Señor demuestran ser verdaderas…”  2 Samuel 22:31 (NTV). Cuando sigas la Palabra de Dios y hagas las cosas a Su manera, podrás hacer lo correcto en el momento adecuado.

Ahora, para poner en práctica la Palabra de Dios, necesitas conocerla.  Eso significa que no puedes hojear la Biblia y esperar que algo se pegue. Necesitas sacar tiempo para estudiar la Biblia todos los días.

Hay muchas maneras de aprender la Palabra de Dios. Por ejemplo, puedes escribir versículos bíblicos en tarjetas y ponerlas en lugares donde las veas a lo largo del día. Puedes reunir versículos en tu corazón memorizándolos o puedes escuchar las Escrituras en tu teléfono celular.

No importa qué métodos uses para aprender la Palabra de Dios. Lo importante es que la estés estudiando, memorizando y aplicándola en tu vida. Cuando lo hagas, experimentarás una libertad que no puede verse disminuida por los problemas y desafíos que enfrentamos hoy en día.
