Viviendo Libre de Culpa

“No nos castiga por todos nuestros pecados; no nos trata con la severidad que merecemos… Llevó nuestros pecados tan lejos de nosotros como está el oriente del occidente”. Salmo 103:10,12 (NTV)

Dios nos da lo que necesitamos, no lo que merecemos.

Merecemos juicio por nuestros pecados porque somos culpables de hacer cosas malas, pero Jesús recibió el castigo que merecemos. “Llevó nuestros pecados tan lejos de nosotros como está el oriente del occidente” Salmo 103:12 (NTV).

La Tierra tiene un polo norte y un polo sur, pero no hay fin de este a oeste. Cuando pones tu confianza en Jesús, ¡Dios toma tu pecado y lo elimina!

El rey David cometió adulterio, y luego para encubrirlo, mandó asesinar al marido de la mujer. ¿Te imaginas la culpa que sentía?

Los efectos de gran alcance del adulterio y el asesinato son devastadores. David no merecía el perdón ni la misericordia de Dios. David sabía que estaba equivocado, pero también sabía que Dios es un Dios misericordioso.

David oró: “Ten misericordia de mí, oh Dios, debido a tu amor inquebrantable; a causa de tu gran compasión, borra la mancha de mis pecados. Lávame de la culpa hasta que quede limpio y purifícame de mis pecados” Salmo 51:1-2 (NTV).

Dios desea la misericordia por encima del juicio. Él está en el negocio del perdón; puede purificarte, limpiarte y restaurarte.

Sigue el ejemplo de David. Admite tu culpa a Dios y pide su misericordia. Te perdonará porque es bueno, no porque seas lo suficientemente bueno para ganártelo.

Dios te ha perdonado, así que acepta su perdón y perdónate a ti mismo también.

How to Have Lasting Change in Your Life

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Romans 12:2 (NIV)

If you want to have lasting change in your life, you need to refocus your mind.

Specifically, you need to change your thought patterns away from what you don’t want to focus on and toward what you do want to focus on. Because whatever you focus on is what you move toward.

Romans 12:2 says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2 NIV). That’s the blueprint you need in order to change your thought patterns. Let’s look at each part:

“Do not conform.” How often do you let other people shape your life? God doesn’t want you to be like someone else; he wants you to be the person he made you to be. So don’t copy, don’t conform, don’t try to be like anyone else.“The pattern of this world.” Pattern means the model of everything you’ve learned in life. If you want to change, you have to change your pattern, or model of living, that you learned in your life. You need to replace the old, unhealthy pattern with a new one modeled after the life of Christ.“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Transformed is the same as the word we use for metamorphosis, the process a caterpillar goes through to become a butterfly. In the same way, God wants to transform you into a completely new person by renewing your mind.

How does this happen? The Bible tells you in Ephesians 4:22-24 “to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (NIV).

This means you are going to have to do some putting off and you are going to have to do some putting on—and the putting off has to happen before the putting on. It’s just like trying on clothes in a department store. Before you can try on the new stuff, you have to take off the old stuff.

Start today with beginning to let go of the old attitudes, thought patterns, and images you’ve been living with. Then get ready to put on the new garments God has for you.

Tus Palabras Demuestran la Condición de tu Corazón

“Toma control de lo que digo, oh Señor, y guarda mis labios”.  Salmo 141:3 (NTV)

¿Cómo nos ayuda Dios a manejar nuestra boca? Yendo directamente a la fuente: el corazón.

¿Alguna vez has dicho: “No sé qué me pasó; no soy ese tipo de persona”? Bueno, la verdad es que no hubiera salido de tu boca si no hubiera estado primero en tu corazón.

En otras palabras, no es tu boca lo que te mete en problemas: ¡es tu corazón! Lo que está dentro de ti es lo que sale. La Biblia afirma: “lo que está en el corazón determina lo que uno dice” Mateo 12:34 (NTV).

Tus palabras demuestran la condición de tu corazón. Eso significa que alguien con una lengua áspera está demostrando un corazón enojado. Alguien que presume mucho está revelando un corazón inseguro.

Una persona que habla demasiado tiene un corazón inquieto. Las palabras de crítica revelan un corazón amargado.

Por otro lado, cuando compartes palabras de aliento con otros, eso revela un corazón alegre. Al ofrecer palabras amables a las personas cuando están deprimidas, eso demuestra que tienes un corazón amoroso.

Si dices palabras amables y reconfortantes a las personas, eso muestra que tienes un corazón de paz. Lo que dices muestra cómo eres por dentro.

La contaminación solo se puede eliminar en la fuente. Cuando Dios te ayuda a controlar tu boca, te cambia de adentro hacia afuera.

Dios se especializa en trasplantes de corazón y está listo para transformar a cualquiera que acuda a Él, sin importar lo que haya sucedido en su pasado.

God’s Change Takes Time

“Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”

Ephesians 4:24 (NLT)

When God helps you grow spiritually, he doesn’t just snap his fingers so that it happens instantly. He does it incrementally. When God wants to make a mushroom, he takes six hours, but when he wants to make an oak tree, he takes 60 years.

Do you want to be a mushroom or an oak tree?

The Holy Spirit will make changes in your life far beyond anything you thought possible, but it’s not going to happen overnight.

When Saddleback Church did our “Decade of Destiny,” this was my prayer: that—through the work of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, and with support from our small groups—our church would become more mature, more Christlike, and further along in our purpose 10 years from that point.

My prayer is the same for you: that in the next decade, you will grow in spiritual maturity, Christlikeness, and purpose.

I want you to be stronger emotionally, physically, spiritually, psychologically, and financially, but you’ve got to be intentional about it. The Bible says, “Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy” (Ephesians 4:24 NLT).

This is how we become more like Jesus. We throw off the old things and the old ways that keep us from getting to know Christ and becoming like him. And we put on our new selves with the help of the Holy Spirit. We let God do his work in us—no matter how long it takes.

The result? “As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him” (2 Corinthians 3:18 TLB).

Talk It Over

What “old things and old ways” do you need to throw off in order to get to know Christ more?
What are some practical ways you can “put on your new nature”?
How do you want God to work in your life? Pray, and ask him to help you trust him as he works in his time to fulfill his purpose for you.

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer?

Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace that can get you back into right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. I’ve looked for the truth about my life in many places, but now I know the truth is only found in you. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Sé Prudente con tus Palabras

“Es una de las partes más pequeñas de nuestro cuerpo, pero es capaz de hacer grandes cosas. ¡Es una llama pequeña que puede incendiar todo un bosque! … Puede echar a perder toda nuestra vida…” Santiago 3:5-6 (TLA)

Cuando carecemos de autocontrol, somos vulnerables a todo tipo de problemas.

Todo lo que esté fuera de control en tu vida puede dañar a otras personas y dañar tus relaciones cercanas. La ira, la lujuria, la adicción, los gastos, la bebida o la ambición incontrolados pueden crear problemas enormes.

Pero el mayor destructor de relaciones es una lengua incontrolada.

Una vez leí que la persona promedio tiene alrededor de 30 conversaciones al día. Eso fue antes de la cuarentena de la pandemia. Pero si eso es cierto, eso significaría que pasamos alrededor de una quinta parte de nuestras vidas hablando.

En algún momento, tu boca probablemente te meterá en problemas. ¡Las probabilidades están en tu contra!

Santiago compara la lengua con una pequeña chispa porque eso es todo lo que se necesita para comenzar un gran incendio forestal. Una palabra descuidada puede encender tus relaciones y hacer que todas se conviertan en humo.

¿Alguna vez conociste a un pirómano verbal?

Sus palabras son peligrosas. Usan palabras de desánimo, decepción, acusación, crítica, sarcasmo, condena o ataque —la lista es interminable.

El chisme es especialmente destructivo porque se propaga como un virus en el aire. Las palabras descuidadas han destruido carreras, amistades y familias.

En lugar de ir en una dirección destructiva, puedes optar por usar tus palabras para edificar a otros. Cuando veas a alguien haciendo algo bien, háblale de ello. Afirma su carácter cuando toma decisiones difíciles. Levántalo con palabras de aliento.

Edificar a otros con tus palabras no es difícil, pero en nuestro mundo, es poco común.

Reflejas la gloria de Dios en un mundo oscuro cuando controlas tu boca y edificas a otros.

Let God Take the Driver’s Seat

“Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am.”

Matthew 16:24 (The Message)

The key to stress reduction in your life is to let go and let God. So how do you do this? You make Jesus the manager of your life.

The problem is, we usually want to be the manager of our own lives, and so we argue and disagree with God. We think we know what’s best. The reason you’re under a lot of stress is that you’re constantly fighting God in your mind—“I know God says to do this, but I want to do that instead!”

Every morning when you wake up, you have a decision to make: Who’s going to be in charge of your life? Who’s going to be in control—you or God? Who’s going to call the shots—you or God? Every day, moment-by-moment, you are making this decision. When you choose to make yourself the manager of your own life, it causes conflict, confusion, and stress.

Jesus says in Matthew 16:24, “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; Iam” (The Message). Here’s what Christians tend to do: When we become believers in Christ, we give him the driver’s seat. But then we promptly hop into the backseat and become backseat drivers. We’re constantly giving him advice like, “No, turn this way. Stop. Wait. Faster! I want to go that way. I want to see that sight.”

Many years ago, Kay and I took dancing lessons. The instructor told us one of the biggest problems couples have is letting the other lead. When they’re both trying to lead, they’re stepping on each other’s feet all the time, and it doesn’t look very pretty.

Your life doesn’t look very pretty when you’re trying to help God lead. Instead, let God be God and make Jesus the manager of your life.

Talk It Over

What details of your life are most difficult for you to surrender to God?
How have you been quarreling with God without saying a word? What do your actions reveal about who is managing your life?
Determine today to give God control of the areas of your life where you have concerns and stress. What will that look like? What difference will it make in your life?

Have you trusted Jesus for your salvation?

The Bible says you can only get to heaven by trusting in God through his Son, Jesus Christ—you don’t need to earn God’s love or work your way into heaven. The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you haven’t trusted in Jesus and committed to following him, why wait any longer? If you’re ready to step across that line and make a decision to believe in Jesus Christ and follow him, pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I trust you when you say that salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today I’m turning over every part of my life to your management. I want you to be in the driver’s seat of my life.

“Jesus, I want to relax in your love. Thank you that I don’t have to earn it or work for it. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I humbly commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In your name I pray. Amen.”

Así Es Como Puedes Enfrentar La Oscuridad

“Yo, el SEÑOR, el Dios de Israel, es el que te llama por tu nombre”. Isaías 45:3b (NBV)

Nosotros deseamos ser conocidos, y una de las primeras formas en las que nos llegan a conocer es por nuestro nombre. Dios dice, “Y te daré los tesoros que se ocultan en lugares oscuros, riquezas secretas, y tú sabrás que yo lo hago. Yo, el SEÑOR, el Dios de Israel, es el que te llama por tu nombre” Isaías 45:3 (NBV). Dios es personal, y te llama por tu nombre.

No hay nada más íntimo que el que te conozcan completamente —todas tus rarezas y debilidades, lo que te hace reír y llorar, tus miedos, tus esperanzas, y tus sueños. Nadie te conocerá completamente en la tierra, pero Dios sí. Él es el único que puede ver a través de las capas de tu personalidad hasta el centro de tu ser.

El Dios que te llama por nombre ha escondido riquezas en tu sufrimiento y oscuridad. Él puede intervenir en tu oscuridad, y estará cerca de ti en esa oscuridad. Esto te debería llevar a alabarlo. Lo que conocemos de Dios nos dirige a adorarlo.

Cuando Job perdió todo lo que tenía valor para él, él adoró por lo que él conocía que era verdadero sobre Dios: “Job se levantó y rasgó su manto y se rasuró la cabeza en señal de duelo y se postró en tierra en actitud de adoración. Entonces dijo: ‘Desnudo salí del vientre de mi madre, nada tendré cuando muera. El SEÑOR me dio cuanto yo tenía; suyo era, y tenía derecho a llevárselo. Bendito sea el nombre del SEÑOR’” Job 1:20-21 (NBV). Aun cuando Job perdió todo; lo que él sabía sobre Dios ocasionó que él se postrara rostro en tierra y dijera, “Dios, yo no sé qué está pasando, pero yo entiendo que tú has dado y has quitado, y alabo tu nombre”.

La misma adoración es un tesoro en la oscuridad. Aun en el dolor, tú puedes saber que Él es un Dios bueno y amoroso.  Él te conoce por nombre y nota cada detalle de tu vida. Él está en control. Y él tiene un plan para tu vida.

Debes estar abierto a la posibilidad de que Dios tiene oro y diamantes escondidos en lugares secretos y estar preparado para recibir y abrazar estos tesoros a medida que te los muestra. Ya sea que intervenga o no, tú puedes saber que Él es el Dios íntimo y personal que estará cerca mientras caminas a través de la oscuridad.

Así es cómo enfrentas la oscuridad y encuentras esperanza.

Meekness Does Not Equal Weakness

“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”

Matthew 5:5 (NIV)

If you want to make healthy choices—to be well and whole again—you have to learn to be meek. Matthew 5:5 says, “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (NIV).

The Bible lists many benefits of meekness: The meek will be satisfied (Psalm 22:26); God will guide them (Psalm 25:9); they will become wise (Proverbs 11:2); they will be filled with fresh joy (Isaiah 29:19).

There are many, many other benefits. The problem is, we misunderstand this term. We don’t really know what meekness is. In fact, we often confuse it with another term that sounds like it: “Meek” sounds like “weak.” Nobody wants to be weak, so nobody wants to be meek.

But the truth is that meekness and weakness are at the opposite ends of the spectrum. Meekness is in no way weakness. In fact, the Greek word for meekness literally means “strength under control.”

To be meek is not to be weak. It’s used to describe a wild stallion that has been tamed. That stallion still has all the strength it had when it was wild, but now its strength is under control. It is strength bottled up for the master’s use.

God doesn’t want you to be weak, but he does want you to be meek. The Bible teaches that it’s one of the keys to stress reduction in your life.

Here’s a simple definition of the word “meek”: Let go, and let God. That is the essence of meekness. It’s surrendering, submitting, and agreeing to what God wants to do in your life. It’s letting God be God in your life.

Let go, and let God. I don’t know a phrase that will do more for your health—physically or emotionally—than this phrase. If you begin to practice it in your life, it will relieve stress and eliminate worry. If you let go and let God, it will defuse anger and end your hurt and resentment.

If you find yourself struggling today, start to cultivate meekness in your life. Let go, and let God.

Tesoros en la Oscuridad

“ Yo te daré tesoros escondidos que tengo en lugares secretos. Así sabrás que yo soy Dios, el único Dios de Israel”. Isaías 45:3 (TLA)

Devocional escrito por Kay Warren.

En Isaías 45, Dios le promete a los israelitas liberación de la servidumbre de Babilonia y liberación de su pueblo descarriado por medio de un rey persa llamado Ciro. Él le dice a Ciro, “Yo te daré tesoros escondidos que tengo en lugares secretos. Así sabrás que yo soy Dios, el único Dios de Israel” Isaías 45:3 (TLA).

Durante su conquista, Ciro literalmente encontró tesoros que los judíos habían enterrado mientras fueron tomados en cautividad. Como el rey Ciro, quien encontró tesoros escondidos en la oscuridad, tú también, puedes encontrar tesoros —esperanza en lugares inesperados en la oscuridad, esos lugares dolorosos de sufrimiento en los que muy posiblemente no quisieras estar. Dios te da estos tesoros por dos razones.

Primero, Él lo hace para que sepas que Él tiene el poder para intervenir en tu oscuridad. En este versículo, Dios se revela a sí mismo como el Señor, el Dios de Israel. Una y otra vez en la Escritura, Él dice que es el Creador, el Sustentador, el Dueño, el que Gobierna, y el Libertador. Él es trascendente, lo que significa que Él está por encima del tiempo, espacio y la materia, y su existencia no depende de nada fuera de Él mismo. Sus caminos son más altos que tus caminos y sus pensamientos más altos que tus pensamientos.

“¡Cuán grande es él! ¡Su poder es absoluto! Su entendimiento no tiene fronteras” Salmo 147:5 (NBV).

Dios es enorme y poderoso, y Él puede intervenir en tu oscuridad en maneras en las que sólo un Dios transcendente puede hacerlo. Probablemente puedes contar historias asombrosas de las formas en las que Dios ha intervenido en tus finanzas, tu salud, tu familia, o tu carrera, justo cuando pensaste que no había más esperanza de restauración o salvación. Él se mostró a sí mismo mientras se movió a tu oscuridad y cambió todo.

Nosotros pedimos milagros cada día porque sabemos que Él es Dios y no nosotros. A veces Dios interviene en formas que le hemos suplicado. Otras veces, Él no lo hace. Él quizás no ha intervenido en la oscuridad que te ha rodeado a ti o a tu familia en las formas en las que deseabas. Así que, ¿qué pasa ahora?

Este versículo revela que Dios estará cerca de ti en tu oscuridad. Él es el Dios Todopoderoso. Él es enorme, pero también es inminente, lo que significa que es íntimo. Él es personal. Él que te ayuda, tu sanador, tu Salvador, tu amigo, el amante de tu alma herida. Este Dios personal e íntimo, estará cerca de ti en tu oscuridad porque Él lo prometió.

Él está tan cerca como tu próxima respiración.

If You Want to Change, Start with Your Thinking

“Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.”

Ephesians 4:23 (NLT)

Change requires new thinking. In order to change, you must learn the truth and start making good choices, but you also must change the way you think.

The way you think determines the way you feel, and the way you feel determines the way you act. If you want to change the way you act, start by changing the way you think. In addition, if you want to change the way you feel, you must start with the way you think.

For instance, you can say, “I need to love my spouse more.” But just saying that isn’t going to change anything. You can’t fight your way into a feeling. You must change the way you think about your spouse. This will change the way you feel, which will then change the way you act. The Bible says, “Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes” (Ephesians 4:23 NLT).

The battle for sin—the battle to deal with those defects in your life that you don’t like—starts in your mind. If you want to change your behavior or emotions, start with your thoughts and attitude.

The renewal of your mind is related to the word “repentance.” I know repentance is a dirty word for a lot of people. They think it means something bad, something they don’t really want to do, something painful. They think of a guy standing on a street corner with a sign that says, “Repent! The world’s about to end!”

But “repent” simply means to make a mental U-turn. Repentance is about more than changing your behavior. It’s about changing your mind and learning to think differently.

You turn from guilt to forgiveness, from frustration to freedom, from darkness to light, from hatred and bitterness to love.

You may also need to change the way you think about God. He’s not mad at you; he’s mad about you! You’re deeply flawed, but you’re deeply loved.

Start with your mind. You can change the way you think about all kinds of things—your relationships, the economy, the world, and your past, present, and future. Changing the way you think will eventually change your emotions and your behavior.
