Cuando estés Agobiado, Mantente Firme

“¡Confíen en el Señor, y serán librados! ¡Confíen en sus profetas, y tendrán éxito!” 2 Crónicas 20:20b (NVI)

Cuando te enfocas en tus problemas en vez de confiar en Dios, vas a terminar exhausto. Y vas a ser vencido porque Dios no te diseñó para pelear tus batallas solo. No tienes el poder que necesitas para enfrentar cada problema en tus propias fuerzas. Necesitas el poder de Dios.

No te puedes enfocar en tus problemas y en Dios al mismo tiempo. Tienes que cambiar tu enfoque en quién es Dios y lo que ha prometido hacer por ti.

La vida está llena de experiencias que te prueban, te drenan y te consumen. Cuando estás desgastado, es cuando estás listo para decirle a Dios, “Lo siento, no puedo manejar esta situación, ya lo he intentado todo. Necesito dártelo porque es más grande que yo”.

Así que, ¿qué deberías hacer cuando estás agobiado? Mantente fuerte.

Mantenerse fuerte es una actitud de total confianza en el carácter de Dios. Serás exitoso, cuando pongas tu confianza en lo que Él te dice a través del Espíritu Santo y Su Palabra. Cuando estás con Dios, nunca tendrás que ceder terreno porque te mantienes fuerte.

Cuando la carga es abrumadora, puedes estar tentado a ceder bajo presión. Dios no quiere que retrocedas ante situaciones difíciles. Él no quiere que sacrifiques tu integridad. Dios quiere que confíes en Él a través de los retos y aprendas de ellos. Si corres, perderás una lección de parte de Dios. Y las opciones son, que tendrás que repetir la lección.

Dios está comprometido con tu éxito. Pero necesitas enfocarte y confiar en Él y en Su Palabra si quieres mantenerte firme.

“Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón; no dependas de tu propio entendimiento. Busca su voluntad en todo lo que hagas, y él te mostrará cuál camino tomar. No te dejes impresionar por tu propia sabiduría. En cambio, teme al Señor y aléjate del mal” Proverbios 3:5-7 (NTV).

Recover Your Vision with Prayer

“They said to him, ‘Lord, let our eyes be opened.’ And Jesus . . . touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him."

Matthew 20:33-34 (ESV)

How is your perspective these days? You may be living with a sense of contentment and gratitude. If that’s you—great! But if you’re stuck in a negative pattern of thinking and have lost your sense of direction, God wants you to recover your vision.

But it will only happen with prayer.

Maybe you’re locked into a habit, hurt, or hang-up, and you can’t see your way out of it. Maybe it’s an unhealthy relationship, a bad attitude, or a way of living. No matter what it is, with prayer, you can recover your vision and see things you’ve never seen before.

There’s a story in the Bible about two blind men who recovered their sight when they prayed. The Bible says, “And when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, ‘Lord, have mercy on us!’” (Matthew 20:30 ESV). This was a passionate prayer, like King Hezekiah’s prayer from yesterday’s devotional.

But the crowd told the blind men to be silent. So they prayed even louder, and Jesus stopped and asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” (Matthew 20:32 ESV). I love that. Jesus let them set the agenda. And he’ll let you do the same. He wants you to tell him what you need. And any time you tell Jesus something, you’re praying.

Then they answered, “‘Lord, let our eyes be opened.’ And Jesus . . . touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him” (Matthew 20:33-34 ESV).

Doesn’t that sound like a good pattern? You pray, recover, and follow Jesus. You start looking at life from God’s viewpoint, and you see things you’ve never seen before. You see your spouse, friends, family, coworkers, and even strangers as valuable, acceptable, and forgivable. You also see those things about yourself. Your entire perspective changes.

The Bible says in Mark 6:34, “When Jesus . . . saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd” (NIV). That’s the way Jesus sees people—with compassion. And he wants to recover your compassion for yourself, your loved ones, your community, your country, and the rest of the world.

Ask God to restore your vision so you can follow him and see people the way Jesus does.

¿Por qué deberías ser Generoso cuando estás Necesitado?

“Aquí está la lección: usen sus recursos mundanos para beneficiar a otros y para hacer amigos. Entonces, cuando esas posesiones terrenales se acaben, ellos le darán la bienvenida a un hogar eterno… si no son confiables con las riquezas mundanas, ¿quién les confiará las verdaderas riquezas del cielo?… No se puede servir a Dios y estar esclavizado al dinero”. Lucas 16:9, 11, 13 (NTV)

Es fácil dar tu tiempo, energía o dinero cuando tienes mucho para dar. Pero la verdadera prueba de generosidad viene cuando no tienes en exceso. ¿Todavía das cuando tienes poco para ayudar a alguien más? Si lo haces, ¡Felicitaciones! Has pasado la prueba de Dios de la generosidad.

¿Por qué prueba Dios la generosidad? Porque fuiste hecho a su imagen, para que, si vas a ser como Jesús, necesitas aprender como ser generoso. Si no lo haces, nunca crecerás en madurez, y nunca tendrás las bendiciones de Dios en tu vida.

¿Qué pasa si estás en una recesión y las cosas no están saliendo bien? Estás sin trabajo o sin dinero, y te sientes como que no tienes más tiempo o energía para dar. ¿Cómo puedes ser generoso cuando estás en escasez?

Un buen ejemplo para nosotros se encuentra en la declaración de Pablo sobre las iglesias de Macedonia: “Estas iglesias han pasado por muchas dificultades, pero están muy felices. Son muy pobres, pero han dado ofrendas como si fueran ricas” 2 Corintios 8:2 (TLA). Alegría y generosidad siempre van juntas.

Una dura prueba de cuando confías en Dios es la forma en la que manejas tu dinero, porque demuestra lo que es importante para ti.

Aquí hay cuatro cosas para recordar, para ayudarte a estar alegre, no importa lo poco o mucho que tengas.

Obedecer la visión de Dios te traerá la provisión de Dios. Cuando dices, “Dios, voy a hacer lo que tú quieres que haga, sin importar si tengo el dinero o los recursos para hacerlo”. Dios proveerá todo lo que necesites para hacerlo.

Cuando hago todas las cosas que Dios me dice, Él hace lo que yo no puedo. Dale a Dios lo que tienes, sin importar lo poco que sea, y Dios lo multiplicará para hacer más de lo que imaginabas, al igual que lo hizo a través del joven que trajo cinco panes y dos peces a Jesús –miles de personas fueron alimentados milagrosamente.

Cuando tengo una necesidad, necesito sembrar una semilla. Ofrece, de lo que más necesites. Para poder cosechar, primero tienes que sembrar las semillas.

Siempre hay una espera entre la siembra y la cosecha. Una cosecha no es automática. Toma tiempo y paciencia.

Mientras seas generoso, siempre puedes confiar que Dios cuidará de cada necesidad que tienes. Y, como des a otros, estás ayudándolos a ver que Dios quiere proveer para ellos también.

Prayer Recovers Emotional Health

“The king cried out . . . ‘Please ask the LORD your God to restore my hand again!’ So the man of God prayed to the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored and he could move it again."

1 Kings 13:6 (NLT)

Have you ever been paralyzed by emotions, such as grief, fear, guilt, or shame? I have. You may think you can’t do anything about your emotions—but that just isn’t true. When you’re paralyzed by your emotions, prayer helps you recover.

There’s a man in the Old Testament named King Jeroboam who got emotionally involved in a situation. God sent another man to the king to tell him news about the future, and the king didn’t like what he heard. In fact, King Jeroboam got so mad he flew into a rage—all because he didn’t want to hear the truth about himself and what was to come.

Has that ever been true of you? Maybe you didn’t like being told some bad news. Or you didn’t like being told that you were causing problems, so you responded emotionally. That’s what happened to King Jeroboam.

Then 1 Kings 13:4 says, “When King Jeroboam heard this, he pointed at him and ordered, ‘Seize that man!’ At once the king’s arm became paralyzed so that he couldn’t pull it back” (GNT). He had become emotionally bound up, and his hand became paralyzed.

What happened next was astonishing. The king cried out, “‘Please ask the LORD your God to restore my hand again!’ So the man of God prayed to the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored and he could move it again” (1 Kings 13:6 NLT). King Jeroboam knew he wouldn’t recover without prayer.

What has you paralyzed today? Maybe it’s your emotions. Turn to God in prayer and ask other people to pray for you. In the same way King Jeroboam recovered the normal use of his hand through prayer, God can help you recover the healthy use of your emotions.

Prayer is an essential part of your overall plan to recover your emotional health. There is no lasting recovery without it!

Las Personas Fieles Comparten su Fe

“Unos hombres le llevaron un paralítico, acostado en una camilla. Al ver Jesús la fe de ellos, le dijo al paralítico: —¡Ánimo, hijo; tus pecados quedan perdonados!” Mateo 9:2 (NVI)

Si tu aceptaste el regalo de Dios de la salvación por gracia, has recibido el mejor regalo que alguien pueda recibir. Pero ¿has compartido este regalo con otros desde que te convertiste en cristiano?

Las personas fieles comparten su fe. El versículo de hoy viene de una historia relatada en Mateo 9, acerca de un hombre que estaba enfermo y paralizado. Sus amigos querían que se sanara, así que lo trajeron a Jesús descolgando su camilla por un agujero en el techo de la casa donde Jesús estaba.

Nota que Mateo 9:2 dice, “Al ver Jesús la fe de ellos”. No era la fe del hombre paralítico que llevó a la sanidad –fue la fe de sus amigos. Cuando Jesús vio que estos hombres se preocuparon lo suficiente como para traer a su amigo paralítico, Él dijo, “Estos muchachos tienen una gran fe. No solo están pidiendo, ellos esperan que sane a su amigo”, y Jesús lo hizo.  

Tú tienes amigos que están espiritualmente paralizados y no pueden llegar a Jesús. Están paralizados por el miedo, la culpa, la duda, el dolor o quizás por el resentimiento de haber sido heridos en alguna iglesia en el pasado. Están paralizados, y no pueden llegar a Jesús por sí mismos.

Dios está viendo si eres lo suficientemente fiel como para traerlos. Y si lo haces, Dios va a honrar tu fe. No solo sanará a tu amigo, también te bendecirá a ti. Es la bendición de la fe.

Mientras una iglesia se mantenga alcanzando a los no creyentes, Dios la seguirá bendiciendo. En el momento en que una iglesia diga que ya no necesita crecer más, estarán diciendo que no les interesa el mundo –una actitud que es inconsistente con las prioridades de Dios.

Pero mientras nos mantengamos llevando a los paralíticos espirituales a Cristo, Dios bendecirá nuestras Iglesias y nuestras vidas.

God Isn’t in a Hurry

“I waited patiently for the LORD's help; then he listened to me and heard my cry."

Psalm 40:1 (GNT)

God isn’t in a hurry with your spiritual growth. You may think he’s in a hurry, but he’s not. He’s using your current circumstances to develop your character and make you stronger. He’s patient.

Most people, on the other hand, are impatient. Many of our problems are caused by our inability to wait. We get into debt because we don’t know how to delay gratification, buying things we don’t need with money we don’t have to impress people we don’t even like.

Some people even get into relationships they shouldn’t get into because they don’t know how to delay gratification. They say, “I want sex now; I don’t want to wait” or “I want companionship now, even if it’s with the wrong person.” And their impatience leads to problems.

The good news is that, with prayer, you can recover from problems caused by your impatience. The Bible says, “I waited patiently for the LORD‘s help; then he listened to me and heard my cry” (Psalm 40:1 GNT).

Remember: God is never in a hurry. Did you know there isn’t an example of Jesus running anywhere in the Bible? In fact, it took him three days to go a mile and a half to get to his friend, Lazarus, who was very sick. And by the time Jesus got to him, it was too late—Lazarus had already died.

But Jesus had a bigger plan in mind. He didn’t want to heal Lazarus—he wanted to raise him from the dead. He wanted to do a miracle. And that’s exactly what happened. Jesus walked up to Lazarus’ tomb, told them to roll the stone away, and said, “Lazarus, come forth.” And Lazarus did!

Sometimes a situation can get so bad that it makes you want to take matters into your own hands.­ But don’t take shortcuts. Instead, trust in God’s perfect timing and expect a miracle! The Bible says, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12 NIV).

God already knows what he’s going to do in your life next month, next year, and in the next decade. His timing is perfect, and his plan for your life is good and worth waiting for.

La Tutoría Importa para el Crecimiento Espiritual

“Lo que me has oído decir en presencia de muchos testigos, encomiéndalo a creyentes dignos de confianza, que a su vez estén capacitados para enseñar a otros”. 2 Timoteo 2:2 (NVI)

Cada cristiano necesita un Pablo y un Timoteo.

Un “Pablo” es alguien que ha sido cristiano por más tiempo que tú y te ayuda a entrenarte y animarte. Esa persona puede ser tan solo un mes mayor que tú, pero ha caminado por más tiempo con el Señor y es más madura espiritualmente y puede ser tu mentor. 

Un “Timoteo” es alguien que no ha estado con el Señor tanto tiempo como tú y cuya fe estás ayudando a hacer crecer. Le ofreces a esa persona aliento y discipulado, mientras crece en el Señor.

Así que tienes un Pablo y un Timoteo en tu vida. Pero a la vez tú eres un Pablo y un Timoteo para otros.

En 2 Timoteo, Pablo le dice lo siguiente a Timoteo: “Lo que me has oído decir en presencia de muchos testigos, encomiéndalo a creyentes dignos de confianza, que a su vez estén capacitados para enseñar a otros” 2 Timoteo 2:2 (NVI).

Vemos cuatro generaciones en este versículo. Pablo le dice a Timoteo que él lo ayudó siendo su mentor, lo que significa que Pablo lo condujo a la madurez espiritual. Ahora Timoteo debe encontrar a alguien como mentor, y luego esa persona buscará a alguien de la cual ser mentor.

Que no te intimide la palabra “mentor”. Ser mentor es tan fácil como llevar a alguien a desayunar una vez por mes y preguntarle, “¿cómo te está yendo?” Solo necesitas mostrarte amigo. Escucha, alienta y ora por esa persona. No necesitas ser un “cristiano perfecto” para hacerlo. Solo debes tener la voluntad de hacerlo.

Para vivir plenamente el llamado de Dios en tu vida, necesitas de otras personas. Crecerás más plenamente como discípulo cuando aprendas de otros creyentes que son más maduros que tú y cuando compartas tu sabiduría y experiencia con creyentes que son más jóvenes que tú.

There’s No Recovery Without Prayer

“The people came to Moses and said, ‘We sinned . . . Now pray to the LORD to take these snakes away.’ So Moses prayed."

Numbers 21:7 (GNT)

What happens when you add prayer to your recovery process? You begin to heal from your hurts, habits, and hang-ups.

But many people try to recover from problems on their own—without turning to God in prayer. This never works because there is no lasting recovery without prayer.

There are many examples of prayer leading to recovery in the Bible. One example is found in the Old Testament. After God had rescued the Israelites from Egypt, there was a 40-year delay in getting to the Promised Land. This delay was their own fault. They didn’t like where they were, and they didn’t like the food—the manna—that God had provided for them.

The Bible says, “The people were very discouraged; they began to murmur against God and to complain against Moses” (Numbers 21:4-5 TLB). They could have taken their problems to God in prayer. Instead, they turned against God.

Then God sent poisonous snakes, and many people got bitten and became sick. The Israelites knew the only solution was to ask Moses to pray for them—and he did. Then God gave Moses a plan. He told Moses: “Make a snake image and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will recover” (Numbers 21:8 CSB). And they did recover!

God is a God of recovery. In fact, the entire mission of Jesus was (and is) a search and recovery mission—“to seek and to save people who are lost” (Luke 19:10 GW).

Maybe you’re feeling lost and discouraged today. You’re thinking, “This is just taking too long. I should be further down the road. I’m too old to not be where I thought I’d be at this stage in my journey.”

That’s okay! When you don’t like where you are in life, it often makes you want to be where you need to be. Don’t let your discouragement keep you from God. Instead, let it lead you to pray.

No matter what kind of delays and difficulties come into your life, recovery is on the way when you turn to God in prayer.

Tu Integridad muestra tu Fidelidad

“Si son fieles en las cosas pequeñas, serán fieles en las grandes; pero si son deshonestos en las cosas pequeñas, no actuarán con honradez en las responsabilidades más grandes”. Lucas 16:10 (NTV)

Es común hoy escuchar a la gente decir: “Lo que haces en tu vida privada no es asunto de nadie”. Bueno, eso no es realmente cierto. Lo que haces en tu vida privada, a puerta cerrada o fuera de la vista de otras personas, construye y revela tu verdadero carácter. Y Dios lo ve tan claramente como las cosas que haces en público.

De hecho, las cosas pequeñas e invisibles que haces, son las semillas de la bendición pública de Dios en tu vida. No puedes dividir tu vida y decir: “Tengo integridad en mi vida pública, pero no en mi vida privada”. Podría hacer una lista en este momento de figuras públicas que han tratado de vivir de esta manera, ocultando realmente lo que son, con tal de no perder popularidad y fama. No importa lo que digan, cualquier líder que no sea fiel en asuntos pequeños no será fiel en asuntos grandes.

Este principio no es nada nuevo. Jesús dijo: “y si no son fieles con las cosas de otras personas, ¿por qué se les debería confiar lo que es de ustedes?” Lucas 16:12 (NTV).

Todos los que tenemos una habilidad o vocación o aprendemos un oficio lo adquirimos a través de un aprendizaje. Si eres mecánico, lo aprendiste de otro mecánico y trabajaste en el negocio de esa persona antes de comenzar el tuyo. Como aprendiz, tienes que ser responsable del negocio de tu maestro antes de que se te confíe el tuyo.

Este principio de aprendizaje se aplica a todas las áreas de tu vida. Se aplica a cómo manejas el dinero de otras personas, cómo manejas las posesiones de otras personas e incluso cómo manejas el ministerio de otras personas antes de que Dios te dé el tuyo.

Antes de que Dios me diera mi propio ministerio, serví como pastor de jóvenes bajo el ministerio de otro hombre. Dios miraba cómo lo manejaba; estaba probando mi integridad. Necesitaba demostrar mi fidelidad en ese ministerio antes de que Dios me permitiera dirigir el ministerio de la Iglesia Saddleback.

Si alguien te presta un automóvil, ¿qué tan bien lo cuidas? Si una familia te permite quedarse en su casa de vacaciones, ¿la tratas tan bien como a tu propia casa? Cuando nadie te está mirando en el trabajo, ¿trabajas diligentemente?

Dios está mirando y probando tu integridad. Demuestra que se puede confiar en las cosas grandes siendo fiel en las cosas pequeñas.

Replace Insecurity with God’s Love

“Love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid . . . this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love."

1 John 4:18 (NLT)

Insecurity ruins relationships. But when you open your life to others, even though they could potentially hurt you, you’ll come alive in ways you’ve never experienced before.

Why does insecurity ruin relationships? Because it prevents intimacy. You long to be close, but you also fear being close. You long to have intimacy with others, but it also scares you to death.

You can’t get close to someone if there’s fear in the relationship. This is why living together doesn’t work in the long run. There’s no lifetime commitment. You never know when somebody is going to walk out.

But fear vanishes, and intimacy—real intimacy—rises when two people say, “We’re committed no matter what. We’re going to make this thing work.”

What do you fear in your relationships? Maybe you don’t want people to find out what you’re really like—so you hide yourself. This is the oldest fear, all the way back to Adam, the first man. He said, “I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid” (Genesis 3:10 NIV).

When you’re afraid, you get insecure and hide who you are. You cover up, not just physically but emotionally. You build walls around yourself and pretend to be someone you’re not.

But while insecurity ruins relationships, love builds them up. The Bible says in 1 John 4:18, “Love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear.  If we are afraid . . . this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love” (NLT). Love takes the focus off you and puts the focus on the other person.

People often ask pastors: “Do you ever get nervous talking in front of a lot of people?” Of course we do! But the minute we think about how much we love our people, instead of being worried about what they think of our clothes or car or speaking style, fear goes out the back door.

But the only way to love others is to realize that God loves you more than you can ever imagine. Suddenly, you don’t have to prove yourself to anyone anymore, and your identity and self-worth aren’t caught up in what others think. Instead, they’re caught up in your relationship with Jesus.

You may have had some relational disasters in your life. Welcome to the human race. But in order to open up to others and fight insecurity, God wants you to first open up to Jesus, letting him fill you with his love so you can share it with others.

Talk It Over

How have you seen insecurity harm a relationship?
How have you seen love build up a relationship?
In what ways have you opened yourself up to God’s love? Ask him to fill you with his love today.

The first step in opening yourself to God’s love is to accept his salvation. No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.

Are you ready? Here’s a prayer you can start with: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
