Solo Dios Puede Suplir Todas tus Necesidades

“…no tienen lo que desean porque no se lo piden a Dios”. Santiago 4:2 (NTV)

Una de las mayores causas de las peleas en tu familia, con tus amigos o en tu trabajo es que esperas que las personas suplan necesidades en tu vida que solo Dios puede satisfacer. Esto suele ser más obvio en el matrimonio, pero es cierto en todas las relaciones. Encuentra personas en las que puedas confiar y que te conocen bien. Entonces empiezas a buscarlos para mantenerte satisfecho emocional y espiritualmente.

Es común que las personas se casen y piensen que su cónyuge debe satisfacer todas sus necesidades. Después de todo, se complementan el uno al otro, ¿verdad? Pero eso es poco realista, injusto y solo te está preparando para una frustración masiva. Tu cónyuge no es Dios. Tu mejor amigo no es Dios. Tus compañeros de trabajo no son Dios. Ninguno de ellos te conoce como Dios. Ninguno de ellos puede proveerte como Él. ¡Son seres humanos destrozados, como tú!

Es hora de cambiar tus expectativas para que tu frustración no genere más conflictos y peleas en tus relaciones.

Entonces, ¿qué debes hacer en lugar de buscar a otra persona para satisfacer cada necesidad emocional, espiritual y física que tengas? Deberías orar por eso.

“…no tienen lo que desean porque no se lo piden a Dios” Santiago 4:2 (NTV).

Cuando esperas que otras personas suplan tus necesidades en lugar de Dios, te lleva a la frustración. Y la frustración lleva a peleas. Si no estás orando y pidiéndole a Dios que cubra tus necesidades, entonces pasarás más tiempo peleando. Si no estás orando por eso, estás peleando por eso. ¡No lo has hecho porque no se lo has pedido a Dios!

Si tienes una necesidad, no busques primero a tu cónyuge o amigo para llenarla. Ve a Dios primero. Él ya sabe lo que necesitas y está listo para dártelo. Sólo tienes que pedir.

Talk to God About Your Interests

“He is like a father to us, tender and sympathetic to those who reverence him."

Psalm 103:13 (TLB)

God loves for you to talk to him about anything. Whatever you’re interested in, God is interested in it too. He wants you to talk to him about your interests for three reasons.

God loves you. You exist because God wants to love you. It’s the reason you’re alive! When you love someone, you’re interested in what they’re interested in. There are many things I’ve become interested in because my wife is interested in them—because I love her. God feels the same way about you, but a thousand times more.

God gave you those interests. You know all those hobbies and sports and all the things you like to do? You got those desires from your Creator. He wired you with them, which means he actually knows what you’re interested in more than you do. He loves you, and he delights to see you enjoy the things he made you to love.

God enjoys talking with his children. He is your Father. Parents are interested in what their kids are interested in. Are you ever bored while you’re praying? If you are, that’s because you’re talking about stuff that you think you should talk about, not what you’re actually interested in. God is a good Father, and he’s interested in what you are interested in.

The Bible says it like this: “He is like a father to us, tender and sympathetic to those who reverence him” (Psalm 103:13 TLB).

If you’re a parent, did you wait until your kids could talk in order to start loving them? Of course not. You loved them deeply, even before they were born or said a word. Whether you ever talk to God in prayer or not, he loves you deeply, just like a parent loves a child before they can’t communicate.

But as children begin to grow, parents desire to have a conversation with them. You want to know what they’re thinking and feeling and share their burdens and joys. You want to delight in their interests and hear their perspective.

That’s the kind of relationship God wants to have with you. He loves you, whether or not you communicate with him. But he longs for the day that you grow up and talk to him about the stuff that’s important to you.

¿Quién Controla tu Futuro?

“Y sabemos que Dios hace que todas las cosas cooperen para el bien de quienes lo aman y son llamados según el propósito que él tiene para ellos”. Romanos 8:28 (NTV)

Uno de los grandes miedos que enfrentas en esta vida es el miedo al futuro. Temes por el futuro de tu familia, tus amigos, tu trabajo, tu comunidad y todo lo demás en el medio.

Es natural. No tienes el control. Pero esa comprensión debería llevarte a confiar más profundamente en Dios.

Puede que no tengas el control de tu futuro, pero Dios sí. Creó todo el universo. Si quisiera, el Señor podría simplemente hacer que no existiera en un instante. Sin embargo, está trabajando su plan en la historia. Está llevando la historia a un clímax, a un destino. Un día Jesucristo regresará a la Tierra. Nada detendrá eso.

Así como Dios está obrando en la historia para mover los eventos hacia un momento particular, también obrará en tu vida con un propósito, si se lo permites.

La Biblia dice: “Y sabemos que Dios hace que todas las cosas cooperen para el bien de quienes lo aman y son llamados según el propósito que él tiene para ellos” Romanos 8:28 (NTV).

La Palabra de Dios no dice que todo sea bueno. Tampoco dice que Dios causa todo. No causa la guerra. No causa el cáncer. No causa la violación, ni el abuso ni el acoso. No causa el mal. La gente hace eso. Dios nos da la libertad de elegir. El mal es el precio de esa libertad.

Pero la Biblia dice que Dios hace que todo trabaje en conjunto para bien. Dios puede tomar nuestras decisiones tontas y malas, las que hemos hecho en la vida y usarlas para bien si confiamos en Él. Sin embargo, Romanos 8:28 no es una promesa para todos. Es para “los que aman a Dios”. Es para aquellos que confían en Dios y dicen: “Aquí, Señor, toma todas las piezas rotas de mi vida y júntalas”.

Por eso, cuando leo los titulares todos los días, no me preocupo. Claro, hay muchos problemas en el mundo de hoy, pero Dios todavía tiene el control. Dios todavía está llevando la historia a un clímax. Y Dios todavía está moviendo a su pueblo hacia lo mejor para ellos. Un día Dios resolverá todo para Su propósito.

Debido a que Dios tiene el control, puedes confiarle todo, incluso lo bueno, lo malo y lo feo de tu vida.

¡El amor de Dios es la respuesta a tus miedos!

Cuando sabes que Dios nunca dejará de amarte, puedes dejar de lado tus miedos. Él tiene el control y tiene en mente sus mejores intereses. Él nunca te abandonará.

No tienes que ganarte el amor de Dios o abrirte camino al Cielo. La Biblia dice: “Porque por gracia ustedes han sido salvados mediante la fe; esto no procede de ustedes, sino que es el regalo de Dios, no por obras, para que nadie se jacte” Efesios 2:8-9 (NVI).

La Biblia dice que solo se puede llegar al Cielo confiando en Dios a través de su Hijo, Jesucristo. Si no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo, haz esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, me has prometido que sí creo en ti, todo lo que hice mal será perdonado, conoceré el propósito de mi vida y algún día me recibirás en tu hogar eterno en el Cielo.

Confieso mi pecado y creo que eres mi Salvador. Has prometido que, si confieso mi pecado y confío en ti, seré salvo. Confío en ti cuando dices que la salvación viene por gracia, por fe, y no por nada de lo que hago. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Hoy te entrego cada parte de mi vida. Quiero vivir mi vida como tú quieres.

Jesús, quiero descansar en tu amor. Gracias porque no tengo que ganarlo ni trabajar por ello. Quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Humildemente te entrego mi vida y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. En tu nombre oro. Amén”.

To Grow Spiritually, You Need Other People

“I want us to help each other with the faith we have. Your faith will help me, and my faith will help you."

Romans 1:12 (NCV)

You cannot grow to spiritual maturity by yourself. You can try it, but you’re going to be lonely, weak, and spiritually stunted. The more you involve other people in your life who are strong in the Lord, the more you will grow in spiritual maturity.

Spiritual growth is relational. We’re better together!

The Bible says, “I want us to help each other with the faith we have. Your faith will help me, and my faith will help you” (Romans 1:12 NCV).

There are 56 “one another” commands in the Bible that you cannot obey unless you’re in a small group. Love one another. Care for one another. Help one another. Encourage one another. Pray for one another. Share with one another.

God wired you so that you have to be connected in his family in order to grow.

The number one thing God wants you to learn in life is how to love him and other people. The very reason you don’t want to be in a small group is the very reason you need to be in a small group. You might think, “But, there might be some people who disagree with me or people who are irritable.” You need those people! You need people in your life who sometimes think differently than you, that challenge your self-centeredness, and teach you to be generous and think of others.

Some people never grow up. They’re stuck thinking it’s all about “me”—“my” schedule, needs, problems, and priorities.

Often, those are the people that refuse to open themselves up to being in community. But if the whole point of life is to learn to love, then you’ve got to push yourself out of your comfort zone and into a group of people that will support and encourage you to fulfill your purpose.

We only grow in community.

“Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more” (Hebrews 10:24-25 GNT).

Planifica Para el Mañana, Pero Vive el Día Hoy

“Así que no se preocupen por el mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá sus propias preocupaciones. Los problemas del día de hoy son suficientes por hoy”. Mateo 6:34 (NTV)

Lo bueno del futuro es que no te llega todo a la vez. Si tuvieras toda tu vida encima a la misma vez, sin duda sería abrumador. Así que Dios te lo da en pequeños segmentos de 24 horas.

Dado que Dios te da solo un día a la vez, así es como espera que abordes tu vida. Vive un día a la vez y haz que cuente.

Jesús nos enseña: “Así que no se preocupen por el mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá sus propias preocupaciones. Los problemas del día de hoy son suficientes por hoy” Mateo 6:34 (NTV).

Jesús está diciendo que dejemos de pedir prestados problemas. Si algo está sucediendo la semana que viene, ¿por qué te la pasas hoy preocupándote por eso?

La preocupación no puede cambiar el pasado. No puede controlar el futuro. La preocupación solo te hace sentir miserable hoy.

Dios te da toda la gracia que necesitas, pero la suficiente para hoy, la renueva todos los días. Él no acumula todo ese poder en tu vida y te lo da para la próxima semana o para el siguiente mes. Dice que oremos: “Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día”. Quiere que tomes la vida un día a la vez.

Cuando no sabes lo que te depara el futuro, aún puedes tomar la vida un día a la vez. ¡Eso es todo lo que debes hacer!

Cuando todo es incierto y no sabes cómo tomar decisiones acertadas para el futuro, entonces ocúpate de hoy. Dios no quiere que te preocupes por el mañana, pero tampoco quiere que presumas de eso. Es importante planificar, orar y confiar en Dios para el futuro. Pero Dios todavía espera que pongas tu energía en hacer que el día de hoy cuente.

Una excelente manera de hacer esto, especialmente durante la pandemia, es reducir las noticias y las redes sociales. En cambio, concentrate en las cosas que Dios ama y le importa, como tu crecimiento espiritual y el cuidado de las personas que necesitan ayuda en este momento. Así es como haces que el día cuente.

“No te jactes del día de mañana, porque no sabes lo que el día traerá” Proverbios 27:1 (NVI). Cuando todo lo demás en la vida parece poco claro, esto es lo más claro posible.

Planifica para el mañana, pero vive el día de hoy. Dios te dará todo lo que necesitas para ser obediente en ambos.

Your Habits Determine Your Spiritual Growth

“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."

1 Corinthians 9:25 (NIV)

National Football League Quarterback Tom Brady won his seventh championship ring this year as the oldest player to appear in a Super Bowl. How did he get to be so good?

There’s a whole list of things Brady does to stay in peak performance mentally, physically, and emotionally, including drinking 20 ounces of water as soon as he wakes up every morning. He’s developed healthy habits that have paid off for him.

You grow when you develop good habits. This applies to every area of your life, including your spiritual growth. When you build good habits in your life, you’re going to have good character. If you have good character, you’re going to have a great destiny. Your character is the sum total of your habits.

The Bible says, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them” (John 13:17 NIV).

You don’t get God’s blessing for knowing the right thing to do. You get God’s blessing for doing the right thing and making it a habit in your life. How do you build habits? Through repetition and practice. Study after study shows you have to do something—whether it’s exercise, diet, or a spiritual habit—every day for six weeks before it becomes a habit.

Doing a few days of study and then skipping a day and then repeating the pattern over and over again is like rolling up a ball of string and dropping it. You keep undoing everything you’ve gained every time you miss a day of Bible study.

You have to develop habits in your life that you’ll use the rest of your life that will help you grow and be strong. Successful people are just normal people who decide to develop good habits that stay with them for the rest of their lives. You determine your habits, and your habits determine you.

The good habits you build in your spiritual life are going to pay off forever in eternity.

Aún en la Pandemia Puedes Hacer Planes

“Si necesitan sabiduría, pídansela a nuestro generoso Dios, y él se la dará; no los reprenderá por pedirla”. Santiago 1:5 (NTV)

No hay nada de malo en planificar, incluso durante los días inciertos de una pandemia. Pero si deseas la bendición de Dios en tus planes, es importante que lo incluyas en tu planificación.

El libro de Santiago nos da una promesa cuando se trata de planear. Dice: “Si necesitan sabiduría, pídansela a nuestro generoso Dios, y él se la dará; no los reprenderá por pedirla” Santiago 1:5 (NTV).

Dios promete que te dará sabiduría cuando planees. Solo tienes que pedirla.

Esto es parte de humillarte ante Dios. No tienes que preguntarte qué Él quiere que hagas con tu vida. ¡Solo tienes que orar por eso! Dios siempre está listo para darte la sabiduría que necesitas para hacer buenos planes.

Vivimos en una época única y es posible que sientas que la mayoría de las áreas de tu vida están en el limbo. Es posible que sientas que no puedes hacer ningún plan o que estás atrapado en una situación temporal. Tal vez ni siquiera hayas hecho algún plan porque tu único objetivo es superar esta pandemia.

Pero, a medida que la pandemia se prolonga, ¡no querrás perder estas semanas y meses! Puede parecer que el tiempo se detiene, pero los propósitos de Dios siempre avanzan. No quiero que pierdas ser parte de ellos.

Si bien hay muchas cosas durante esta pandemia que no puedes controlar, hay muchas cosas sobre las que sí tienes control. Te desafío a apartar una hora esta semana para, en oración, hacer un plan. Puede ser un plan para tu crecimiento espiritual, familia, ministerio, finanzas o carrera. Independientemente de lo que quieras hablar con Dios, haz que sea un momento para buscar la sabiduría de Dios y establecer algunas metas.

Puedes comenzar orando: “Señor, ¿qué quieres que haga durante este tiempo? ¿Qué quieres que haga con mi vida? ¿Cuál es tu voluntad, Dios? Por favor, dame tu sabiduría para que pueda servirte bien y cumplir mi propósito”.

Get a Grip on God’s Word

“The message of his grace . . . is able to build you up and give you the blessings God has for all his people."

Acts 20:32 (GNT)

When you feed on the Word of God, you grow. The Bible is your soul food. You can’t be physically healthy if you eat junk food all the time. In the same way, you can’t be spiritually healthy unless you feed on the truth of God’s Word.

Would you like to have all the blessings that God has for you? Of course you would! I want that for you too.

How do you get those blessings? They’re a direct result of spiritual maturity. The Bible says, “The message of his grace . . . is able to build you up and give you the blessings God has for all his people” (Acts 20:32 GNT).

The Word of grace will build you up. When you grow in spiritual maturity, God can give you all the blessings he has for you. There are some gifts you can’t give a baby or a young child because they aren’t mature enough for them yet. In the same way, there are some gifts God wants to give you, but he’s waiting for you to grow up.

You can actually use your hand to help you remember how to use the Bible to grow in spiritual maturity. You feed on the Word of God by doing six things: You hear God’s Word—that’s your pinky finger. You read it—that’s your ring finger. You study it—that’s your middle finger. You memorize it—that’s your pointer finger. Then, you meditate on it—that’s your thumb. Your palm represents applying God’s Word.

It’s important that you do all six of those things as you feed on God’s Word. If the only spiritual input you get is hearing the Word of God at church, then you won’t have a very strong grip with just your pinky finger. We forget 95 percent of everything we hear within 72 hours! Satan will be able to steal your joy very easily.

If you hear the Word of God and then you read it every day, you’ve got a better grip. Satan can’t pull it away from you as quickly. If you hear it and read it and study it, then you’ve got a stronger grip.

When you do all six things, you’ll have a firm, strong grip on God’s Word. No one will be able to take it away from you. And you’ll find yourself growing toward spiritual maturity and receiving the blessings that come with it.

Talk It Over

To grow, you need to commit to spending time in God’s Word every day. Start with just five minutes a day. Set yourself a goal to study the Bible for the same amount of time, at the same time every day for the next six weeks. Put it in writing and tell a trusted friend who can help hold you accountable.

Aprovecha al Máximo tus Talentos

“Cada uno ponga al servicio de los demás el don que haya recibido, administrando fielmente la gracia de Dios en sus diversas formas”. 1 Pedro 4:10 (NVI)

Dios te ha dado habilidades, talentos y dones únicos. En la iglesia Saddleback, usamos el acrónimo F.O.R.M.A. que representan la FORMA de una persona: Formación o dones espirituales, Oportunidades del corazón, Recursos y habilidades, Mi personalidad y Antecedentes y experiencias. Este conjunto de talentos es lo que Dios te ha dado que te hace quién eres y te distingue de otras personas.

Si crees que tus talentos son simplemente para que ganes mucho dinero, te jubiles y mueras, te has perdido del enfoque en tu vida. Dios te dio talentos para beneficiar a otros, no a ti mismo. Y Dios les dio a otras personas talentos que te beneficien a ti.

En el cuerpo de Cristo, cada parte importa. No hay personas insignificantes en la familia de Dios. Estás formado para servir a Dios, y Él quiere ver cómo vas a usar los talentos que te dio.

Ya sea que tú seas músico o contador, maestro o cocinero, Dios te dio esas habilidades para servir a los demás. La Biblia nos dice: “Cada uno debe usar cualquier regalo que haya recibido para servir a los demás, administrando fielmente la gracia de Dios en sus diversas formas” 1 Pedro 4:10 (NVI).

Eres un administrador de los dones que Dios te ha dado. Pueden ser grandes o pequeños a tus ojos, pero son importantes para Dios. “Ahora bien, alguien que recibe el cargo de administrador debe ser fiel” 1 Corintios 4:2 (NTV). Cuando Dios te creó, hizo una inversión en ti y espera un retorno de esa inversión.

¿Estás usando lo que Dios te ha dado para beneficio de otros para hacer del mundo un lugar mejor? ¿O simplemente estás usando esos talentos para beneficiarte?

Si Dios te ha dado un talento, quiere que lo uses. Es como un músculo. Si lo usas, crecerá. Si no lo usas, lo perderás. Si tienes un talento, pero tienes miedo de usarlo, o si eres perezoso y no lo usas para beneficiar a otros, lo perderás. Al igual que la parábola de los diez talentos en Lucas 19, si no usas lo que Dios te ha dado, Él lo quitará y se lo dará a otra persona que sí lo hará.

Pero si usas tus talentos sabiamente, Dios te dará más. Si usas tu tiempo sabiamente, Dios te dará más tiempo. Si usas tu energía sabiamente, Dios te dará más energía. Si usas tu influencia sabiamente, Dios aumentará tu influencia. Dios bendecirá tu nivel de fidelidad.

Jesus Teaches How to Be Gentle

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

Matthew 11:28-29 (NIV)

Learning to be gentle is so important for a follower of Christ. Gentleness defuses conflict. It disarms critics. It’s persuasive. It’s attractive. It communicates love.

Most importantly, gentleness makes you more like Jesus. Matthew 11:28-29 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (NIV).

Wait. Does this mean that the stress and pressure you’re feeling in your life are because you are not gentle? Yes. Because the Bible says that the more Christ-like you become, the more gentle you become and the more at rest you will be.

Do you want to be at peace? Do you want to be like Jesus? You can’t just walk out your door and force yourself to be gentle. You can’t manufacture gentleness, because inside you’re still going to be under stress. It’s got to be an “inside” job. It has to be the fruit of God’s Spirit inside you.

I don’t know what burden you are carrying, but I do know the answer to your stress. Jesus wants you to take his yoke upon you. This means he’s going to bear your burdens with you.

And when you let Jesus share your burden, you will walk with him in a close relationship. You will learn how to be gentler and humbler. He will exchange your stress and pressure for his rest and peace.
