When You’re Afraid to Make the Wrong Decision

“He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake."

Psalm 23:3 (NIV)

Sometimes you’re afraid of making the wrong decision. And that creates stress.

But God has an antidote to indecision. Psalm 23:3 says, “He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake” (NIV). The way to handle the stress of decision-making is to let God guide you.

You may be thinking, “But I’ve tried this!” You asked God to guide you, but then you became more confused than ever before. You still couldn’t figure it out, and you wondered why knowing God’s will is so difficult.

Is God playing games with you? Of course not! God wants to guide you. He wants you to know his will more than you want to know it. But sometimes you look for the wrong thing when you’re trying to find God’s will. We all do this.

Some of us look for a feeling. Some want a formula or recipe to follow. Others take a magical approach and look for God to show us a fantastic sign.

But these ways only lead to frustration and can cause you to miss God’s will.

God doesn’t want you confused, and he does not want you stressed over making a decision. He is there, guiding you every step of the way. During the next few days, we’ll look together at how you can let God guide you.

This is his promise, and you can believe it to be true: “He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.”

Diezmamos por el Pasado, Presente y Futuro

“Honra al Señor con tus riquezas y con lo mejor de todo lo que produces. Entonces él llenará tus graneros, y tus tinajas se desbordarán de buen vino”. Proverbios 3:9-10 (NTV)

A lo largo de las Escrituras, Dios nos ha mandado devolverle el primer diez por ciento de todo lo que hacemos. Eso es lo que llamamos diezmar.

¿Por qué Dios te pide que hagas eso? Ciertamente no necesita tu dinero. Es todo suyo en primer lugar. Sólo te lo presta mientras estás vivo.

La Biblia dice que debes practicar el principio de poner a Dios en primer lugar en tus ingresos por tres razones: el pasado, el presente y el futuro.

Primero, diezma con gratitud por el pasado. Reconoce que todo lo que has tenido ha sido un regalo de Dios. ¡No tendrías nada de eso si no fuera por la generosidad de Dios!

Segundo, diezma para mantener en el presente, tus prioridades en el orden correcto. Pon a Dios en primer lugar en todas las áreas que quieres que bendiga. Jesús dijo que cuando busques primero su Reino y lo hagas tu máxima prioridad, Él cuidará de todas las demás necesidades de tu vida.

Tercero, diezma para el futuro, para demostrar confianza en Dios. El diezmo muestra que crees que Dios te cuidará en el futuro y que sus promesas no son mentiras. Cree en que, como hoy eres fiel al mandato de Dios, Dios te será fiel en el futuro.

¿Sabes lo que me cuesta entender? Algunas personas confían en Dios para cumplir sus promesas de salvarlos y llevarlos al cielo, pero no confían en su promesa de cuidarlos financieramente si lo ponen en primer lugar con los diezmos. Si no puedes confiar en Dios con tus finanzas, ¿cómo puedes confiar en Él para tu salvación?

“ Honra al Señor con tus riquezas y con lo mejor de todo lo que produces. Entonces él llenará tus graneros, y tus tinajas se desbordarán de buen vino” Proverbios 3:9-10 (NTV).

No le des a Dios tus sobras. Cuando elijas en su lugar darle lo primero de todo lo que tienes, Dios promete darte todo lo que necesitas, y más.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿A qué tienes miedo de renunciar si eres fiel a Dios con tu diezmo? Tómate un tiempo hoy para entregar tu miedo y dejar lo que te impide obedecer a Dios.¿De qué manera mantener un presupuesto te ayuda a ser consistente en el diezmo?Si confías en Dios para tu salvación, ¿qué más necesitas aprender a confiarle?

 

Si no has confiado en Jesús para tu salvación, ¿por qué no hacerlo hoy? Así es como empiezas.

La Biblia dice que Jesús entregó su vida para mostrar cuánto te ama. No tienes que ganarte el amor de Dios ni abrirte camino hacia el Cielo. La Biblia dice: “Dios los salvó por su gracia cuando creyeron. Ustedes no tienen ningún mérito en eso; es un regalo de Dios. La salvación no es un premio por las cosas buenas que hayamos hecho, así que ninguno de nosotros puede jactarse de ser salvo” Efesios 2:8-9 (NTV).

Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo, oren esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, has prometido que si creo en ti, todo lo que he hecho mal será perdonado, conoceré el propósito de mi vida, y algún día me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el cielo.

Confieso mi pecado, y creo que eres mi Salvador. Has prometido que si confieso mi pecado y confío en ti, seré salvo. Confío en ti cuando dices que la salvación viene por gracia, por medio de la fe, y no por nada de lo que hago. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Hoy te voy a entregar cada parte de mi vida para que tú la administres. Tienes derecho a tomar las decisiones en mi vida.

Quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Te ofrezco mi vida y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. Jesús, en tu nombre hago esta oración. Amén”.

When God Doesn’t Take the Pain Away

“Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, 'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me . . . For when I am weak, then I am strong."

2 Corinthians 12:8-10 (NLT)

I was born with a brain disorder that, among other things, makes public speaking painful. Essentially, my brain runs extremely hot and fast, and it causes all kinds of problems in my body. For 50 years, I’ve asked God every day to heal it. And he has said to me every time, “My grace is all you need.” God has used the most physically painful thing in my life to shape me and make me depend on him.

The things that I’ve prayed about the most, God has chosen not to remove. But, like Job, I say, “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him” (Job 13:15 NIV).

Even the Apostle Paul did not get answers to all of his prayers. In fact, he had what he called a “thorn in the flesh”—a lifelong problem that caused great pain in his life.

Two Corinthians 12:8-10 says, “Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me . . . For when I am weak, then I am strong” (NLT).

If God never says “yes” to another prayer in my life, I still owe him the rest of my life, and you do too. He has a better plan, a bigger perspective, and a greater purpose.

What have you been praying about that hasn’t happened? Maybe you want to be married, have a baby, or get that promotion at work. Maybe you’ve asked God to give you something, or maybe you’ve asked him to take away something, like a chronic illness. Maybe you’ve gone through something that makes you feel like it’s the end of the story.

This chapter will pass, but your story is not over. Whatever you’ve been waiting on, you can trust that God is working for your good. Even when he doesn’t take away your pain, God will give you his grace and power to walk through it.

Talk It Over

What pain are you still waiting on God to take away? What have you learned about him and yourself while you’ve been waiting?
If you knew God would not answer your prayer in this life the way that you wanted, would you keep praying that prayer? Why or why not?
Why does God promise his grace instead of promising to take away your pain?

God wants you to join his family.

The Bible says all people fall short of God’s perfect standard. Yet God still loves you—even though you sin and you’re flawed. In fact, God loves you so much that he sent his Son, Jesus, to cleanse you from your sins and to bring you into the family of God.

If you’re ready to enter God’s family, here’s a prayer you can start with: “Dear God, I know that when I die I’m going to give an account of my life to you directly. I confess I have ignored you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know that I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know that only your grace can save me, Lord.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I ask you to save me from the sins and the habits that are messing up my life right now. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe that you will keep your promise to save me instantly and certainly and completely and eternally. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

En Tiempos de Incertidumbre, Necesitas Seguridad Eterna

“De nada servirán las riquezas en el día del juicio, pero la justicia te librará de la muerte”. Proverbios 11:4 (NBV)

¿De qué sirve tu dinero al final?

“Cuando muere el hombre impío, perece su esperanza; Y la expectativa de los malos perecerá” Proverbios 11:7 (RVA). La Biblia también dice en Proverbios 11:4, “De nada servirán las riquezas en el día del juicio, pero la justicia te librará de la muerte” (NBV).

La única forma de tener una seguridad que durará más que tu vida es tener una relación con Jesucristo.

Si te enfrentas a una inseguridad financiera en este momento, es probable que te sientas tentado a dejar de confiar en que Dios se ocupará de ti.

Pero la Biblia es muy clara cuando se trata de la provisión de Dios. Te dice que Dios proveerá, pero a menudo de formas que no esperas o no entiendes. La Biblia también te permite saber qué hacer cuando sientes que no vas a tener suficiente y cuando estás tentado a acumular tus recursos. Necesitas confiar en Dios, no en tus posesiones. Tienes que estar centrado en Dios, no ser materialista. Y deberías ahorrar, pero por las razones correctas.

Si nunca has abierto tu vida a Jesucristo, nunca podrás confiarle tu dinero ni tomar decisiones financieras que lo honren. No tienes la seguridad de una relación con Dios que necesitas para manejar tiempos de incertidumbre como los que atravesamos ahora. ¡Pero estás a solo una oración de conocer y confiar en Dios con tu vida!

No es necesario que sepas qué va a pasar mañana. No es necesario que sepas lo que depara el futuro. ¡Solo necesitas saber quién tiene el futuro! Cuando tengas una relación con tu Creador, tendrás la seguridad que necesitas.

Para convertirte en un seguidor de Cristo, simplemente haz esta oración en tu corazón: “Querido Dios, quiero que mi seguridad esté en algo que no me puedan quitar. Quiero que mi seguridad esté en mi relación contigo, porque confío en tu promesa de que nunca me dejarás. Quiero reclamar esa promesa hoy. Hasta dónde sé hacerlo, te abro mi vida, Jesucristo. Por favor, entra, cambia mis prioridades, mis valores, mi propósito y mi dirección. Hazme la persona que quieres que sea. Humildemente te pido que hagas esto en tu nombre. Amén”.

Three Things to Pray in Your Pain

“‘Abba, Father,’ he cried out, ‘everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.’”

Mark 14:36 (NLT)

The night before he went to the cross, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew that the next day he was going to face torture, suffering, and death on the cross. He didn’t want to go through that pain any more than you or I would have wanted to.

“He went on a little further and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by” (Mark 14:35 NLT).

Jesus wanted to know if there were any other way that God could accomplish his will for the salvation of the world. So, he prayed and asked his Father to make a way for him. In doing that, Jesus showed us that it’s okay to tell God that you don’t want to go through your suffering.

Mark 14:36 says, “‘Abba, Father,’ he cried out, ‘everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine’” (NLT).

In this prayer, Jesus models the three things you should pray when you’re in pain:

Affirm God’s power. Tell God, “Father, I know you can do anything! All things are possible for you. I know you could take care of this situation. I know you could keep me out of this suffering. I know you could take away the pain instantly. God, you’re all powerful.”

Ask with passion. Then say to God, “Father, please give me what I ask! Take away this suffering and pain. You see my hurt, and I know you care. I know you are with me. I know you will answer my prayer. Please don’t let this pain be my burden any longer.”

Accept God’s plan. Finally, tell him, “God, I don’t want to go through this suffering. But what I want most is your will. More than anything, I want your plan, your purpose, and your perspective. Please do your will in my life, even if it means I have to bear this pain. I know you will be with me and help me and make me more like you.”

This is not an easy prayer, especially when you’re in pain. But it will always be the prayer God honors and answers.

¿Cuánto Más Necesitas?

“Manténganse libres del amor al dinero, y conténtense con lo que tienen, porque Dios ha dicho: «Nunca te dejaré; jamás te abandonaré»”. Hebreos 13: 5 (NVI)

Mucha gente está sintiendo inestabilidad financiera en estos días, sin importar cuánto tengan en el banco. Algunos se preguntan: ¿tendré trabajo la semana que viene? ¿Qué va a pasar con la economía? ¿Tendré suficiente para hacer las cosas que quiero hacer con mi vida?

Si estás haciéndote esas preguntas, entonces necesitas recordar la promesa de Dios en hebreos 13:5: “Manténganse libres del amor al dinero, y conténtense con lo que tienen, porque Dios ha dicho: «Nunca te dejaré; jamás te abandonaré» (NVI).

¿Viste eso? La promesa de Dios de nunca dejarte está relacionada con tu futuro financiero. Dice que no es necesario que ames el dinero. Puedes contentarte con lo que tienes. No necesitas acumular recursos, porque tienes la seguridad de la presencia de Dios. Dios siempre te ve y siempre sabe lo que necesitas. Y debido a que Dios es amor, nunca te abandonará, mucho menos cuando lo necesites.

¿En qué confías para tu futura seguridad financiera? ¿Confías en tus posesiones o en la presencia de Dios?

Si tienes dificultades para invertir el dinero, el diezmo o ser generoso, entonces estás revelando una falta de fe. Realmente no crees que Dios cumplirá sus muchas promesas de cuidar de ti. Vives con una mentalidad de escasez.

En su lugar, intenta comenzar a vivir con las promesas de Dios en mente. Una vez que hagas eso, no tendrás que acumular porque confiarás en Dios. Sostendrás tus recursos con la mano abierta. ¡Esta es la única forma de vivir una vida con propósito!

La Biblia dice que la verdadera seguridad viene cuando confías en Dios, no en tu propia riqueza y habilidades. La única forma de llegar al Cielo es confiando en Dios a través de su Hijo, Jesucristo. No tienes que ganarte el amor de Dios o abrirte camino al Cielo. La Biblia dice: “Porque por gracia ustedes han sido salvados mediante la fe; esto no procede de ustedes, sino que es el regalo de Dios, no por obras, para que nadie se jacte” Efesios 2: 8-9 (NVI).

Si nos ha confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Si estás listo para cruzar esa línea y tomar la decisión de creer en Jesucristo y seguirlo, haz esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, me has prometido que, si creo en ti, todo lo que hice mal será perdonado, aprenderé el propósito de mi vida y un día me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el cielo.

Confieso mi pecado y creo que eres mi Salvador. Me has prometido que, si confieso mi pecado y confío en ti, seré salvo. Confío en ti cuando dices que la salvación viene por gracia, por fe, y no por nada de lo que hago. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Hoy entrego cada parte de mi vida para tu dirección. Tienes derecho a tomar las decisiones en mi vida.

Jesús, quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Te entrego mi vida y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. En tu nombre oro. Amén”.

Relax! God Is Working for Your Good

“In all things God works for the good of those who love him."

Romans 8:28 (NIV)

Everything God does is for your good and because he loves you. The Bible says, “All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful” (Psalm 25:10 NIV), and “In all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28 NIV).

This is something you have to remind yourself of again and again, because any time God says “no” to your prayers, Satan will shoot darts of doubt at you. He’s going to whisper lies to you: “God doesn’t love you. He doesn’t care about you; otherwise, he’d give you everything you want!” But Satan is a liar.

You don’t have to understand God’s answer to your prayer to know it’s motivated by love.

God loves you too much to give you everything you ask for. So, when God says “no,” you’ve got three options: You can resist it, resent it, or relax in it.

You can resist God. You can fight him, get mad at him, turn your back on him, and say, “Okay, God, if you don’t play the game my way, I’m going to take matters into my own hands.” I’ve met a lot of people who walked away from God because God said “no” to their prayer. They didn’t trust that he had a bigger perspective, a better plan, and a greater purpose.

Those people walked away from God in resentment and rebellion. That’s the second thing you can do—you can resent it. When you doubt God’s love like that, it makes you bitter and miserable. So many people have lived their entire lives in misery because they’ve never accepted the fact that God only does what’s good in their lives.

There is a third way to respond to God’s goodness: You can relax in it. When you believe that God always has your best interest at heart, you can look with new eyes at the things he does that don’t make sense.

You may not understand it. It may even be painful. But God is still good. He is loving, and he will never stop loving you. You can say, “Even in this, God’s love still remains.”

That’s the only kind of response that will bring you peace! Don’t resist or resent God’s work in your life. You can relax in the truth that it is always for your good.

La Desobediencia Tiene Consecuencias

“En el desierto dieron rienda suelta a sus deseos; pusieron a prueba la paciencia de Dios en esa tierra árida y baldía. Entonces les dio lo que pedían, pero al mismo tiempo les envió una plaga”. Salmos 106:14-15 (NTV)

Dios te ha dado todas las reglas que necesitas para vivir. ¡La Biblia es el manual para la vida! Donde se encuentran todas las leyes que Dios estableció para vivir una vida feliz, saludable y santa.

Cuando sigues el plan de Dios, las cosas salen bien. Pero cada vez que te olvidas de Dios e ignoras su manual, las cosas comienzan a desmoronarse en tu vida: física, emocional, financiera, relaciones y de cualquier otra manera.

Te lastimas a ti mismo y a los demás cuando dudas de la bondad de Dios y lo desobedeces.

Esto sucedió muchas veces en la Biblia. Cada vez que una persona o un grupo de personas se olvidaban de Dios y se alejaban de Él, tenían serios y graves problemas.

El Salmo 106 nos habla de uno de esos escenarios: “En el desierto dieron rienda suelta a sus deseos; pusieron a prueba la paciencia de Dios en esa tierra árida y baldía. Entonces les dio lo que pedían, pero al mismo tiempo les envió una plaga” Salmos 106:14-15 (NTV).

Si le dices a Dios: “Quiero hacer lo que quiero hacer cuando quiera hacerlo”, a veces Él te dará lo que quieres. Pero a menudo hay consecuencias no deseadas al obtener todo lo que deseas.

Comer todo lo que quieras comer, siempre que quieras comerlo, puede provocar obesidad y niveles altos de azúcar en la sangre. Beber alcohol todo el que quieras beber, en cualquier momento que quieras beberlo, puede provocar alcoholismo y enfermedades cardíacas. Una vida sexual desordenada puede provocar enfermedades de transmisión sexual y familias desintegradas.

Cuando ignoras los principios saludables que Dios enseña en la Biblia, le estás diciendo que crees que sabes más que Él. Pero la desobediencia siempre tiene consecuencias, a veces grandes y otras veces pequeñas.

No hay mejor momento que hoy para comenzar a tomar decisiones en obediencia a la Palabra de Dios. Cuando vives de una manera que honra a Dios, encontrarás que a eso le siguen grandes bendiciones.

Seek God, Not His Gifts

“The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God."

Psalm 14:2 (NIV)

Millions of Christians spend all their time seeking what God has to give them and no time seeking God himself.

When you’re praying for healing and restoration, it’s okay to want a miracle. But, ultimately, it should be God himself you seek—not a miracle, a sign, prosperity, or a thousand other gifts of God. Your prayer should be: “God, I want you. I want to know you.” When you seek God, you get everything else.

God gives many promises in the Bible about those who seek him:

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face . . .  then I will hear from heaven” (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV).

“I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me” (Proverbs 8:17 NIV).

“Anyone who comes to him must believe he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV).

“If from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul . . . For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you” (Deuteronomy 4:29-31 NIV).

Seek God, not just his blessing. That means that, whether or not you get the answer you want, you’ll find joy in knowing God better. Whether or not you get what you think is best for you, you’ll be satisfied with what God thinks is best for you. When you’re going through a divorce or a miscarriage or a layoff, seek God—even more than your deliverance from your pain.

This is not a casual pastime. Don’t seek God in your spare moments, after you’re done with work or as you’re scrolling social media. Make getting to know God better the primary focus of your life.

“The LORD looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God” (Psalm 14:2 NIV).

It’s rare to find someone who’s earnest about seeking God. Most of us want just enough of God to bless us, but not to change us.

You don’t become an Olympic athlete in your spare time. In the same way, you don’t become a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ by giving him your leftovers. Give him your first and best, and he will keep every promise.

Tus Dones y Talentos no son solo para tu Propio Bien

“Siempre doy gracias a mi Dios por ustedes y por los dones inmerecidos que les dio ahora que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús. Ahora tienen todos los dones espirituales que necesitan mientras esperan con anhelo el regreso de nuestro Señor Jesucristo”. 1 Corintios 1:4,7 (NTV)

Cuando Dios pensó en ti, te creó con dones, talentos, habilidades y destrezas diferentes. Hay ciertas formas en las que piensas y cosas que haces en las que eres naturalmente bueno.

Esos dones y habilidades son la manera en que Dios te formó. Pero Dios no te formó únicamente para tu beneficio. Tus dones no son solamente para tu propio bien. Tus dones son para beneficio de todos los demás. Y eso significa que los dones de ellos también son para tu beneficio.

Uno de mis dones es la enseñanza. He puesto ese don a trabajar durante muchos años en beneficio de otras personas. De la misma manera, tus dones pueden beneficiar a las personas que forman parte de tu vida.

Es posible que ya sepas en qué eres realmente bueno. ¿Por qué crees que Dios te hizo bueno en esas cosas? ¡Quiere que uses esos dones para los demás!

¿Cómo debes usar esos dones o talentos en el tiempo que queda antes de que Jesús regrese? Bueno, deberías usarlos para alcanzar a otros para Jesús. Deberías usarlos para ser un embajador de amor en el mundo. De hecho, si no estás usando esos dones únicos de la forma en que Dios quiso, entonces realmente los estás desperdiciando.

Dios no te dio dones para usarlos solo para ti. Santiago 4:17 lo dice así: “Recuerden que es pecado saber lo que se debe hacer y luego no hacerlo” (NTV).

Si sabes en qué eres bueno y sabes que es probable que muchas personas en el mundo necesitan tu ayuda, ¿qué vas a hacer al respecto? ¿A quién estás sirviendo? ¿A quién vas a ayudar desde ahora hasta que termine la historia y comience la eternidad?

Dios te ha dado —como a la iglesia a la que el apóstol Pablo escribió en 1 Corintios—, todo lo que necesitas para servir bien. “Siempre doy gracias a mi Dios por ustedes y por los dones inmerecidos que les dio ahora que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús. Ahora tienen todos los dones espirituales que necesitan mientras esperan con anhelo el regreso de nuestro Señor Jesucristo” 1 Corintios 1:4,7 (NTV).

No desperdicies tus habilidades dadas por Dios. Usa tus dones para servir a Dios sirviendo a los demás.
