No temas —¡Dios está contigo!

“¿Qué podemos decir acerca de cosas tan maravillosas como estas? Si Dios está a favor de nosotros, ¿quién podrá ponerse en nuestra contra?” Romanos 8:31 (NTV)

Los psicólogos han identificado cientos de diferentes temores conocidos que las personas pueden tener. El temor es un problema universal y te quita el gozo.

Pero estas son las buenas noticias: no debes tener temor. ¡Tienes a Dios de tu lado! ¿Qué podemos decir acerca de cosas tan maravillosas como estas? Si Dios está a favor de nosotros, ¿quién podrá ponerse en nuestra contra?” Romanos 8:31 (NTV).

Con Dios de tu lado, no necesitas nada más. Dios más uno equivale a una mayoría. ¿Cuál es tu mayor temor? ¿Vergüenza? ¿Fracaso? ¿Rechazo? ¿Decepcionar a los demás? ¿No encajar?

Satanás usa todos estos temores para robarte el gozo. Él sabe lo que te hará feliz, por lo que crea temores para oponerse a esas cosas.

Por ejemplo, Satanás sabe que hacer lo correcto siempre te traerá alegría. Así que te hace temer lo que otras personas pensarán si haces lo correcto. Hace que te preocupes más por tu popularidad que por agradar a Dios.

Satanás también sabe que una de las mayores fuentes de gozo en la vida es cuando compartes el amor de Cristo con un incrédulo. Por eso te da temor contarle a la gente acerca de Jesús.

La verdad es que, para encontrar el gozo, solo necesitas una cosa. Necesitas vivir para la audiencia de uno: Dios. Ese es el camino de Jesús hacia el gozo total y completo.

Él dijo: “Estas cosas les he hablado, para que mi gozo esté en ustedes, y su gozo sea completo” Juan 15:11 (RVA).

Puedes tener gozo en la vida, sabiendo que Dios está contigo. ¡No temas!

Mercy Could Be Your Greatest Witness

“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

Luke 6:36 (NIV)

In an increasingly unkind world, your greatest Christian witness is showing people mercy.

Have you noticed how unmerciful and unforgiving our world is? It seems the highest form of humor is the put-down. Even comedians get paid for their sarcastic and cynical jabs at others.

But when people see you showing mercy, especially considering how rude and mean society has become, they’ll say, “That’s what I expect a Christian to be like—like Jesus.”

Jesus says in Luke 6:36, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (NIV).  

There are four things you can do to build a lifestyle of mercy. We’ll look at two today and two tomorrow.

Start looking and listening for people’s needs. Whose needs? The needs of people in your neighborhood, at your work, and in your family. Mercy always begins with awareness. If you’re not aware, then you don’t care.

The Bible says, “Look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own” (Philippians 2:4 GNT).

You don’t struggle to be merciful because you’re a bad person. It’s because you’re too busy. Busyness is the number one destroyer of mercy in your life. When you’re moving from event to event and task to task, it’s hard to pay attention to the people around you. And when you’re not looking and listening for people’s needs, it’s nearly impossible to be merciful.

Don’t be offended by the sins of others. You can’t say, “Go clean up your life, and then I will accept you.” No—mercy is unconditional! If you’re going to show mercy to people, you can’t be offended by them. You can’t minister to people if you’re looking down on them.

Jesus wasn’t offended by people’s sins. In fact, he hung out with the worst kinds of sinners. He was even accused of “guilt by association” because he spent time with people who were corrupt, unloving, and manipulative.

This doesn’t mean Jesus approved of everything they did. God doesn’t approve of everything you do, but he accepts you completely. Showing mercy doesn’t mean you say everything someone does is okay. Drug addiction and adultery, for example, are not okay.

But you can still show mercy. You can do for others what Christ has done for you.

“Most importantly, love each other deeply. Love has a way of not looking at others’ sins” (1 Peter 4:8 ICB).

El Resentimiento te Duele Más que a Nadie

“El resentimiento mata a los necios; la envidia mata a los insensatos”. Job 5:2 (NVI)

Si te aferras al resentimiento, siempre te duele más que a nadie. El resentimiento es autodestructivo y contraproducente.

El resentimiento simplemente no tiene sentido.

Si alguien alguna vez tuvo una razón para estar resentido, ese fue Job. Era un hombre piadoso que tenía todo lo que quería: riqueza, fama y una gran familia. Un día, lo perdió todo. Las naciones enemigas mataron su ganado. Todos sus hijos murieron en una terrible tormenta. Tiene una enfermedad terrible.

Literalmente perdió todo lo que tenía, excepto a su esposa, pero luego, en su momento más oscuro, ella le dijo: “¿Maldice a Dios y muérete?” Job 2:9 (NVI).

Luego, un grupo de sus amigos se acercó y dijo: “Job, todo es tu culpa”.

Pero, en medio de muchos malos consejos, uno de sus amigos compartió una palabra de sabiduría. Insistió a Job en que volverse resentido era una mala idea. Dijo: “El resentimiento mata a los necios; la envidia mata a los insensatos” Job 5:2 (NVI).

El amigo de Job era un hombre sabio. Sabía que, incluso en medio de una angustia tan grande, el resentimiento no ayudaría. De hecho, solo empeoraría las cosas.

Si piensas en las experiencias de tu propia vida, probablemente estarás de acuerdo. Probablemente hayas hecho cosas de las que te arrepientes cuando estabas atrapado en el resentimiento. Tal vez dijiste algo como: “¡Lo voy a buscar!”. Luego hiciste lo ridículo para que eso sucediera.

Cuando cedes al resentimiento, terminas actuando de manera autodestructiva. Te lastimas mucho más que a aquellos contra los que guardas rencor. El resentimiento te hace sentir miserable. Y nunca termina cuando obtienes lo que quieres.

Entonces, ¿por qué aferrarse a tu resentimiento por un minuto más? Deja ir el resentimiento hoy. Elige perdonar y disfruta de vivir en la libertad que eso trae.

What It Means to Be Saved

“Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. God has done it all! He sent Christ to make peace between himself and us, and he has given us the work of making peace between himself and others.”

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (CEV)

Because of God’s great mercy, Jesus came “to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10 NIV). He showed you how much you matter to him by sending his Son to die on the cross for your sins. That’s the kind of love God has for you.

You may have heard people say, “I’m saved.” You may even say that yourself when you talk about your relationship with Jesus. But what does it mean to be saved? What happens when you accept God’s gift of salvation?

Salvation rescues you from yourself. Many people don’t think they need to be saved or “rescued” from anything. And I ask them, “Really? You have no pain in your life? You have no resentment, pressures, guilt, or anxiety?” Everyone has problems they can’t solve on their own. Everyone needs to be rescued. Everyone needs Jesus.

The Bible says, “Call on me in times of trouble. I will rescue you, and you will honor me” (Psalm 50:15 GW).

Salvation recovers what you lost. What would you like to get back? Maybe you’ve lost your confidence, your joy, your reputation, your dream, or your innocence. Jesus came to recover what you’ve lost.

If you’re familiar with farming, you probably know how damaging a swarm of locusts (grasshoppers) can be. They can destroy a field of corn in about two hours.

What has eaten away at your life? What has destroyed your profitability, plans, or relationships? Only God can restore it all. Joel 2:25 says, “I will give you back what you lost in the years when swarms of locusts ate your crops” (GNT).

Salvation reconnects you to God. When you surrender your life to God, Jesus makes peace between you and him. He tears down all the barriers that once separated you from your Creator. There’s a word for that: reconciliation.

The Bible says, “Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. God has done it all! He sent Christ to make peace between himself and us, and he has given us the work of making peace between himself and others” (2 Corinthians 5:17-18 CEV).

Being reconciled to God also means you will live with him forever. You will have a home in heaven for all eternity! That’s why preparing for the next life is the most important thing you can do in this life.

Talk It Over

Do you struggle to admit you need God’s rescue? In what way do you sometimes try to rescue yourself?
What have you lost in life? Take time to thank God for being a God of restoration and ask him to restore “what you lost in the years when swarms of locusts ate your crops.”
If you are already a Christian, in what ways did your salvation reconnect you to God? If you haven’t yet decided to follow Jesus, in what areas of your life do you see a need for reconnection to God?

It’s never too late to seek God’s rescue

If you haven’t yet accepted God’s gift of salvation through Jesus, you can do that today. Are you ready to commit your life to Jesus? If so, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, you have promised that if I believe in you and make you Lord of my life, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe that you are God, my Savior. Today I’m turning every part of my life over to you. I want to follow you and do what you tell me to do.

“Jesus, I am grateful for your love, for your sacrifice on the cross, and for your resurrection that make it possible for me to join you in heaven. I know I don’t deserve it. And I thank you that it is a gift of grace. I want to use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you, and I ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Vive en el Gozo del Perdón

“Me gozo porque tú me has salvado”. Salmo 13:5b (NBV)

Si eres un seguidor de Jesús, el gozo debe ser una forma de vida. ¿Por qué? Porque has sido completamente perdonado. Ya no hay razón para la culpa o la vergüenza.

Me parece un buen motivo de alegría.

La Biblia dice: “Por tanto, ahora no hay condenación para los que están en Cristo Jesús” Romanos 8:1 (NVI).

Romanos 8 se escribió originalmente en griego. La palabra traducida “no” es la negativa más fuerte posible en griego. Es como si Dios estuviera diciendo: “No, no, no, ni en mil años, ni en un millón de años, ni una oportunidad en tu vida”.

Todos cometemos errores. Pero Dios no quiere que vivas en constante auto condena, diciéndote constantemente: “Deberías ser mejor”.

Entonces, ¿cómo quiere Dios que manejes tu culpa? Al ser sincero y confesar tu error. Ve a Dios y dile: “Lo siento. Por favor perdóname”. Él borrará tu pecado.

¡Por eso Jesucristo murió en la cruz! Y no solo murió por los pecados que ya cometiste. También murió por los que aún no has cometido. Todos están cubiertos por la cruz.

Jesús tomó tu condenación. Por eso murió. Tus pecados han sido pagados. No tienes que volver a pagar por ellos.

Esa es la salvación y es tu motivo más importante de gozo. Es la alegría de una conciencia tranquila.

Si estás listo para aceptar esa promesa y vivir en el gozo del perdón, entonces haz esta oración:

“Querido Jesús, me has prometido que, si creo en ti, todo lo que hice mal será perdonado y ya no seré condenado. En lugar de juzgarme, algún día me aceptarás en tu hogar eterno en el Cielo.

Confieso mi pecado y te pido perdón. Creo que eres Dios, mi Salvador. Te recibo en mi vida como mi Señor. Gracias porque no tengo que ganar, merecer o trabajar por tu perdón. Es tu regalo de gracia.

Hoy te entrego cada parte de mi vida. En lugar de vivir en vergüenza, quiero vivir en el gozo de tu salvación. Quiero usar el resto de mi vida para servirte en lugar de servirme a mí mismo. Humildemente te entrego mi vida y te pido que me salves y me aceptes en tu familia. En el nombre de Jesús oro. Amén”.

Are You Ready to Return?

“Happy are the people whose God is the LORD.”

Psalm 144:15 (CSB)

Over the last couple days, we’ve been looking at what people actually lose when they are spiritually lost. Not only do they lose their direction, protection, and potential, but they also lose their happiness.

When you’re in harmony with God, it gives you the peace you need to be in harmony with others, making you a happier person. But when you’re disconnected from God, you’re often disconnected from others—and unhappy.

We see this happen in the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15. It’s about a young man who left his father, taking his inheritance with him and wasting it on careless living. Luke 15:14 says, “He spent everything he had . . . and he was left without a thing” (GNT). His recklessness had left him lonely and miserable.

The truth is, nothing destroys happiness faster than conflict in a relationship. So, when the young man had a conflict with his dad, it created a strained relationship. This led to resentment, guilt, and regret.

This story reminds us of how unhappy we are when we’re in conflict with our heavenly Father. We weren’t designed to live disconnected from God. That’s why thumbing our nose at him and going our own way never works.

But the moment we say, “God, I’m tired of living the way I’ve been living,” he runs out to meet us. He takes the initiative. He even celebrates, like the father did with his prodigal son: “Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him . . . We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life” (Luke 15:22-24 NLT).

Maybe you’re saying, “Pastor Rick, I used to feel close to God, but I don’t feel close to him anymore, and I’ve lost my happiness.” Remember: God didn’t move; you moved. He’s the unmovable.

Know that God sees you as extremely valuable and wants you to return to him. And when you do, he will be “filled with love and compassion” (Luke 15:20 NLT), like the father with his prodigal child.

Returning to your heavenly Father and being in right relationship with him is the only way to true joy and happiness!

Run Back to God

If you’re tired of living away from God, just say this prayer to him today, and he will hear and respond: “God, I know I haven’t been living the way you want me to. Even though I know the right thing to do, I’ve turned away from you and chosen the things that hurt your heart. Thank you that you’ve never turned away from me. You’ve never left me or changed how you feel about me. Thank you for loving me still!

“Father, I choose today to turn a different direction, toward you, and start seeking again your kingdom and your righteousness. Help me to trust your love and your direction in my life so that I will be faithful to follow you all the days of my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

¿Cómo Puedes Ayudar?

“Cada uno debe agradar a su prójimo, y hacer cuanto contribuya al bien y a la edificación de su fe”. Romanos 15:2 (NBV)

Si estás conduciendo por la autopista y se pincha una llanta, y el presidente de los Estados Unidos pasa por ahí, nadie espera que se detenga y te ayude a reemplazar una llanta. Es demasiado importante para lidiar con tus problemas.

Pero esos no son los valores del Reino, son los valores mundanos. Jesús dijo, si quieres ser grande, debes ser el servidor de todos. Cuanto más te entregues y sirvas a otras personas, más grande serás en el Reino de Dios.

Mi esposa tiene un ministerio internacional y ha hablado en todo el mundo. Recuerdo hace unos años cuando tuvo cuatro compromisos importantes para hablar en un corto período de tiempo. Llegó a casa de un viaje y estaba totalmente agotada. Ella fue inmediatamente a la cocina y comenzó a cocinar una comida para una familia de nuestro vecindario que estaba pasando por una gran lucha. No creía que fuera demasiado importante. Dejó a un lado su cansancio para poder ayudar a los demás. Ella ha hecho esto una y otra vez desde entonces, porque quiere ser como Jesús. Quiere servir.

¿Qué significa amar como Jesús? “Cada uno debe agradar a su prójimo, y hacer cuanto contribuya al bien y a la edificación de su fe” Romanos 15:2 (NBV).

Busca cómo Jesús puede estar en tu vida disfrazado de persona herida. Puede estar en el dispensador de agua el lunes por la mañana. Puede que esté en el partido de fútbol. Puede ser la persona detrás tuyo en la fila de la tienda de comestibles. Puede que sea la persona más odiosa que conoces y que está sufriendo un profundo dolor. Si quieres servir a Jesús, comienza por presentarte a las personas heridas que te rodean.

Romanos 12:13 dice: “Compartan lo que tengan con los pobres de la iglesia. Reciban en sus hogares a los que vengan de otras ciudades y países” (TLA).

Hay muchas personas en tu iglesia, vecindario e incluso familiares que son madres solteras que trabajan para poner comida en la mesa, viudas que se sienten solas en sus casas vacías.

God Sees Your Potential

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT)

God has amazing plans for you! But if you’re not connected to him, you lose out on everything he wants to do in your life.

Yesterday we looked at two things people lose when they’re spiritually lost: their direction and protection. Today we’ll be looking at a third thing they lose: their potential.

Your potential to do good things in the world is dramatically limited when you’re disconnected from God.

It’s a lot like coins. Put enough of them together, and they have great potential for good. You could feed a family, start a business, or even save a life. But you can’t do any of those good things if the coins are lost.

The story of the lost coin in Luke 15:8-10 is a good example of this. It’s about a woman who has 10 valuable coins. But, somehow, one of them gets lost. She doesn’t say, “I’ve got nine coins, so I’m not going to worry about the lost one.” Instead, she turns her house upside down to look for it and celebrates when it’s finally found.

Just because her coin was lost doesn’t mean it had lost its value. It still had great value! But what it lost was its potential to do any good.

God made you to do great things, far greater than you could possibly imagine. In fact, if God showed you what he wants to do with your life when you completely place it in his hands, it would astound you!

The Bible says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9 NLT).

Maybe you’ve been disconnected from God for many years, and you think it’s too late for him to use you. It’s not too late! He’s your Creator. He sees you as highly valuable, and he knows your potential.

If you’ll surrender every part of your life to him today, you’ll start to see all the things he has prepared for you come to life.

Te Sanas del Dolor Ayudando a los Demás

“Puesto que Cristo sufrió en su cuerpo, ustedes también deben estar dispuestos a sufrir, porque el que ha sufrido en el cuerpo ha roto con el pecado” . 1 Pedro 4:1 (NBV)

Cuando tienes dolor, ¿en quién es la persona en la que más estás pensando? ¡Tú!

Es tu naturaleza ser egocéntrico, porque eres humano. Cuando estás sufriendo, quieres que te consuelen. Cuando estás enfermo, quieres que te cuiden. Cuando estás triste, quieres que te abracen. El dolor te vuelve egocéntrico.

Pero Dios dice que si vas a aprender a amar como Él lo hace, debes tratar de ver el dolor de otras personas, incluso cuando estás sufriendo.

Jesús es nuestro mayor ejemplo de esto. Cuando estaba colgado en la cruz, tenía un enorme dolor físico, emocional y espiritual. ¡Llevaba todo el pecado del mundo! Pero en sus últimos momentos, notó el dolor de otras personas. Él oró: “Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen” Lucas 23:34 (NTV). Y le dijo al hombre que estaba a su lado: “Hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso” Lucas 23:43 (NVI). También se aseguró de que cuidaran a su madre. No estaba pensando en sí mismo, incluso cuando estaba en agonía.

La Palabra de Dios dice que hay que tener la misma actitud que Jesús (Filipenses 2:5). Eso significa que, cuando estés sufriendo, debes mirar a tu alrededor y ver quién más está sufriendo. Debes pensar en los demás, incluso mientras te cuidas a ti mismo.

Eso es difícil. ¿Cómo ves el dolor de los demás cuando estás sufriendo?

“Puesto que Cristo sufrió en su cuerpo, ustedes también deben estar dispuestos a sufrir, porque el que ha sufrido en el cuerpo ha roto con el pecado” 1 Pedro 4:1 (NBV).

Con la gracia de Dios, puedes mirar más allá de tu propio dolor. Y cuando lo haces, el pecado pierde su poder y te vuelves más como Jesús.

No podría decirles a cuántas personas hemos podido ayudar mi esposa y yo desde que murió nuestro hijo Matthew hace varios años. Las personas que luchan con enfermedades mentales y el dolor de la pérdida de un hijo salieron a la luz, porque necesitaban ánimo y esperanza. Con la gracia de Dios, hemos sido capaces de ayudar a otros que sufren, incluso cuando llevamos nuestro propio y profundo dolor. Gracias a ello, Dios nos ha dado un propósito en medio de nuestro dolor y ha ayudado a muchas personas a avanzar en su recuperación.

Dios también puede usar tu dolor para ayudar a otros que luchan con el mismo dolor.

God Directs and Protects

“All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own.”

Isaiah 53:6 (NLT)

God sees everyone as valuable and worth seeking, finding, and saving. The Bible says, “[God] desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4 ESV).

But many people are spiritually lost. This means they’re following their own plan for their lives rather than God’s plan.

But what do spiritually lost people actually lose? They lose five things, but today we’ll look at just two: They lose their direction and their protection.

You can see this in the story of the lost sheep in Luke 15:3-6. It’s about a shepherd who leaves 99 saved sheep to go out and search for the one lost sheep. He doesn’t say, “I’ve got 99 saved sheep, so forget the lost one!” No, they all matter to him. And when he finds the lost sheep, “he joyfully puts it on his shoulders” (Luke 15:5 NIV) and goes home to celebrate.

Like sheep, people who are spiritually lost lose their direction. In fact, all humans are this way. You don’t intend to get lost. You just think, “That grass looks greener over there.” And soon you follow your own way and lose your direction.

The Bible says, “All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own” (Isaiah 53:6 NLT). 

Another thing spiritually lost people lose is God’s protection. Like sheep who wander away from their shepherd, you too are vulnerable when you don’t have a shepherd to protect you from the wolves of life. That’s why you need to follow Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Otherwise, you are alone and defenseless—and you lose God’s protection.

The Bible also says, “My people are wandering like lost sheep; they are attacked because they have no shepherd” (Zechariah 10:2 NLT).

But when you place yourself under the Good Shepherd’s care, you get direction and protection. This doesn’t mean you will be free from trouble. But it does mean that God will work “all things together for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28 BSB)

Maybe you or someone you know is lacking God’s direction and protection today. Remember: Jesus is the Good Shepherd who sees everyone as extremely valuable and “desires all people to be saved.”

Talk It Over

When did you first realize you mattered to God? What circumstance or person helped you realize this?
What daily habits keep you close to Jesus, the Good Shepherd? What habits make you more likely to wander from him?
Who in your life doesn’t appear to have God’s direction and protection? Make plans to tell them how valuable they are to him.

If you've never opened your life to Jesus Christ, you’ll never find the direction or have the protection that comes from a relationship with him.

You don't need to know what's going to happen tomorrow. You don't need to know what the future holds; you just need to know who holds the future! When you have a relationship with your Creator, you'll have the security of his unwavering love and unbreakable promises.

If you want to begin an intimate, forever relationship with Jesus, pray: “Dear God, I want my security to be in something that cannot be taken from me. I want my security to be in my relationship with you, as I trust in your promise to never leave me. I want to claim that promise today. As much as I know how, I open my life to you, Jesus Christ. I confess that I have lived life my own way and sinned against you. Please forgive me. Come into my life and change my priorities, my values, my purpose, and my direction. Transform me into the person you want me to be. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
