Make It About Jesus

“Our message is not about ourselves. It is about Jesus Christ as the Lord. We are your servants for his sake.”

2 Corinthians 4:5 (GW)

If you want to be used by God, you need to remember this: It’s not about you; it’s all about Jesus.

“It’s not about you” is the exact opposite of everything you’ve been taught. Our entire culture appeals to self-centeredness. Advertisements everywhere tell you, “You’re number one! Do what’s best for you! Think of yourself first!”

But you’re not the center of the universe—God is. That’s why, when you make every problem, opportunity, and criticism about yourself, you become frustrated and unfulfilled. And you eventually become bored because life is so much more than living for yourself.

The Bible says, “Our message is not about ourselves. It is about Jesus Christ as the Lord. We are your servants for his sake” (2 Corinthians 4:5 GW).

Twice in this passage, Paul says it’s all for Jesus. It’s about him, and it’s for his sake. In other words, learning to follow Jesus is about motivation.

There may be a hundred different things you could do with your life, and God would say: “Because I made you and shaped you, any of those things would be fine with me.”

But God is far more interested in your motivation to do something than in your methodology. You could be using the right method and be very successful in life. But if you have the wrong motive—greed, competition, envy, or guilt—it won’t count with God.

On the other hand, you could do everything wrong and fail in so many ways. But if you have the right motive—Jesus—then God says, “That’s good enough.” God is more interested in your “why” than your “what.”

The Bible says, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17 NIV).

Have you found yourself bored or frustrated with life?  Choose to make Jesus your motivation today. You’ll find the joy of living for something bigger than yourself.

Cómo Usar las Manos Para Orar

“Pongan todas sus preocupaciones y ansiedades en las manos de Dios, porque él cuida de ustedes”. 1 Pedro 5:7 (NTV)

 No hay nada demasiado pequeño para orar. No hay nada demasiado grande para orar. Ora por todo.

“Pongan todas sus preocupaciones y ansiedades en las manos de Dios, porque él cuida de ustedes” 1 Pedro 5:7 (NTV).

Si vale la pena preocuparse, vale la pena orar por eso.

Hay una forma sencilla de recordar cómo orar usando las manos. El Salmo 88:9 dice: “Cada día suplico tu ayuda, oh Señor; levanto a ti mis manos para pedir misericordia” (NTV).

Los dedos de tu mano izquierda representan por quién debes orar, y los dedos de tu mano derecha representan por qué debes orar. Si recuerdas estos pasos, puedes crear fácilmente el hábito de orar a lo largo del día. Hoy hablaremos de por quién orar, y mañana veremos por qué orar.

Cuando levantas tu mano izquierda, ¿qué dedo está más cerca de tu corazón? El pulgar. Las personas más cercanas a tu corazón son tu familia y tus amigos. El pulgar te recuerda que debes orar por ellos primero.

El dedo índice es el que señala el camino. Representa a los maestros y líderes en tu vida que te señalan hacia Jesús y la voluntad de Dios. Ora para que te ayuden a ti y a los demás a tomar decisiones sabias y para que ellos también sean sabios en sus propias vidas.

Tu dedo más alto es el dedo medio. Deja que te recuerde que debes orar por las personas con autoridad y por las personas que influyen en la sociedad. Ora para que dirijan con integridad e influyan en los demás para bien, no para mal.

Tu dedo anular es bastante débil. Puede ayudarte a recordar que debes orar por las personas que suelen ser más vulnerables, como los ancianos, los enfermos y las personas que no tienen suficiente para comer. Ora para que Dios provea para sus necesidades y los acerque a Él.

El último dedo, el meñique, te representa a ti. Está bien que ores por ti mismo. Pero no empieces por ahí. Ora por ti mismo en último lugar, después de orar por todos los demás.

Este sencillo recordatorio puede ayudarte a transformar tu vida de oración. Pruébalo y observa cómo Dios te convierte en una persona de mayor fe.

God Wants You to Be Real

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

God didn’t create you to be somebody else. When you get to heaven, he’s not going to ask you why you weren’t more like your sister, your father, or your neighbor. God made you one of a kind, and he wants you to be real.

He wants to use you as you.

The Bible says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (Ephesians 2:10 NLT).

The problem is, many people try to be someone they’re not. They live for the approval of others. Or they think God would love them more if they acted differently. But God’s love isn’t based on how you act. He loves you no matter what you do.

One barrier that often keeps people from being used by God is the fear of being real. You’re afraid people won’t like you if they find out who you really are, so you live an insecure life. But the Bible says, “The Spirit we received does not make us slaves again to fear; it makes us children of God” Romans 8:15 (NCV).

The antidote to insecurity is God’s Spirit at work in you. When you live as a child of God, despite your mistakes and weaknesses, you’re liberated to be who God made you to be.

Did you know your imperfections are actually a good thing? People don’t grow from strengths; they grow from weaknesses. Showing only your strengths to the world won’t make others feel close to you; it may even make them feel jealous or distant. But when you admit your imperfections—when you’re real with others—people draw closer to you.

So you have a decision to make. Are you ready to be real? You can be stuck and enslaved by fear. Or you can be the real you and enjoy the good things God planned for you long ago.

Dios Quiere tus Oraciones Emocionales

“Y volví mi rostro a Dios el Señor, buscándole en oración y ruego, en ayuno, cilicio y ceniza”. Daniel 9:3 (RVR1960)

¿Alguna vez has orado esto a la hora de acostarte? “Ahora, que me acuesto a dormir ruego al Señor que guarde mi alma. Si muero antes de despertar, le ruego al Señor que tome mi alma”.

¿O qué tal cuando vas a comer? “Bendice este alimento para la nutrición de nuestros cuerpos”.

La mayoría de las personas han hecho oraciones parecidas en algún momento. Pero, ¿qué quieren decir? ¿realmente lo sentimos?

Muy a menudo pasamos por los pasos de la oración, recitamos palabras de memoria y tachamos algo de nuestra lista antes de pasar a lo siguiente.

Dios no busca oraciones sin emoción ni autenticidad. No le importa si puedes pronunciar palabras inventadas por otra persona. A Dios no le importa lo hermosa que suene tu oración. De hecho, ni siquiera le importan tanto las palabras como las emociones detrás de ellas.

Cualquier cosa que le pidas a Dios en oración, ya sea una necesidad física, material, espiritual o emocional, expresa tu deseo con emoción. Eso es lo que agrada a Dios.

Cuando Daniel necesitó la sabiduría de Dios para dirigir a los israelitas, “Y volví mi rostro a Dios el Señor, buscándole en oración y ruego, en ayuno, cilicio y ceniza” Daniel 9:3 (RVR1960). Rogar significa pedir con emoción. Es más que una solicitud de rutina. Es una búsqueda seria, con todo el corazón y una súplica ferviente. Dios escucha nuestras súplicas.

La oración de Daniel, no es una oración cobarde, es una oración valiente. ¿Cuándo fue la última vez que oraste así?

Puedo decirte, sin siquiera conocerte personalmente, que la última vez que oraste así fue cuando sentiste un profundo dolor. No derramas tu corazón ante Dios de esa manera cuando las cosas van bien. Derramas tu corazón a Dios y le suplicas cuando estás sufriendo.

Pero eso no significa que no puedas llenar todas tus oraciones con emoción. Al mirar a tu alrededor para ver lo que está sucediendo en nuestro mundo, tu corazón se romperá por las cosas que rompen el corazón de Dios. Es un Dios emocional y responde a tus emociones con amor.

Derrama tu corazón a Dios hoy. Te acercará más a Él y profundizará tu fe a medida que veas cómo responde a tus oraciones.

God’s Mercy Frees You to Serve

“Since God in His mercy has given us this ministry, we do not lose heart.”

2 Corinthians 4:1 (BSB)

You were created to make a contribution with your life, not to just exist and live only for yourself. God shaped you to serve him, and it’s all because of his mercy.

Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:1: “Since God in His mercy has given us this ministry, we do not lose heart” (BSB).

Some people think “ministry” is a churchy word. It’s something only ministers do. But anytime you use the talents, gifts, and abilities God has given you to help somebody else, you’re doing ministry. Even your job can be your ministry—whether you’re an accountant, teacher, or truck driver!

When you understand that everything God does through you is because of his mercy, two things happen:

You don’t have to prove your worth. Do you ever try to prove your worth through your work? Maybe you think that the more successful you are, the more valuable you are. But your worth has nothing to do with your work. Instead, your worth is found in the fact that God made you, loves you, and sent Jesus to die for you. Understanding God’s mercy takes you off the performance track.

You don’t have to wallow in your mistakes. We’ve all made mistakes. We’ve all sinned. But because of God’s mercy, you don’t have to dwell on your past. You can repent and turn away from your sin. Your past doesn’t have to hold you back from doing the work God has given you to do.

In fact, God has never used a perfect person—because there aren’t any, except for Jesus Christ. When you look through the Bible, you’ll find all kinds of people who God used despite their mistakes. Jacob was a chronic liar; Rahab was a prostitute; Jonah was fearful and reluctant; Martha worried a lot; the Samaritan woman had several failed marriages; Peter was impulsive; Moses, David, and Paul were all guilty of murder. Yet God used each person in incredible ways.

So there’s nothing that would prevent God from using you. Because of God’s great mercy, you can live out God’s purpose for your life.

¿Podría tener tu Atención, por favor?

“Si me buscan de todo corazón, podrán encontrarme”. Jeremías 29:13 (NTV)

Darle a alguien tu atención es el mejor regalo porque tu tiempo es tu vida.

Cuando volteas la cara hacia alguien y enfocas tus ojos en ellos, les hace sentir que realmente te preocupas y estás interesado en lo que tienen que decir.

Puedes hacer esto con Dios: puedes volver tu rostro hacia Él en oración. ¡Solo mira hacia arriba! Demuéstrale que lo estás mirando y que estás listo para hablar. Aunque es una buena manera de orar, no hay nada en la Biblia que diga que debes cerrar los ojos o inclinar la cabeza. Cuando cierro los ojos y pienso, me voy a dormir. Me gusta orar en voz alta a Dios y mirar hacia arriba, porque me recuerda físicamente que estoy reenfocando mi atención.

Daniel hizo esto cuando necesitó la ayuda y la sabiduría de Dios: “Así que dirigí mis ruegos al Señor Dios, en oración y ayuno” Daniel 9:3 (NTV). Después de escuchar a Dios a través de su Palabra, el segundo paso de la oración es buscarlo.

Dios hace muchas promesas en la Biblia para quienes lo buscan.

“¡Vuelvan a buscarme y vivan!” Amós 5:4 (NTV). A medida que busques a Dios de manera persistente, comenzarás a aprender a vivir de verdad.

“Amo a todos los que me aman. Los que me buscan, me encontrarán” Proverbios 8:17 (NTV). Si tienes problemas para encontrar a Dios, asegúrate de buscarlo con los motivos correctos: querer conocerlo y no solo obtener algo de Él.

“Si me buscan de todo corazón, podrán encontrarme” Jeremías 29:13 (NTV). Vas a encontrar a Dios cuando realmente quieras conocerlo, no solo en tu tiempo libre.

“Todo el que desee acercarse a Dios debe creer que él existe y que él recompensa a los que lo buscan con sinceridad” Hebreos 11:6 (NTV). ¿Te gustaría que Dios recompensara tu negocio, tus finanzas, tus relaciones y tu futuro? Entonces búscalo.

“Busquen el reino de Dios por encima de todo lo demás, y él les dará todo lo que necesiten” Lucas 12:31 (NTV).

Cuando buscas a Dios primero, no tienes que preocuparte por todas las otras cosas que el mundo dice que deben estresarte. Dale tu atención. Vuelve tu rostro hacia Él y demuéstrale que quieres darle el primer lugar en tu vida.

You’re Qualified to Serve God

“Give yourselves completely to God—every part of you—for you are back from death and you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes.”

Romans 6:13 (TLB)

There is no greater joy than to be used by God for a purpose bigger than yourself. Nothing compares to that feeling you get the moment you realize, “This is it! This is why I’m alive. I get it now.”

If you’ve never had this feeling, you’re missing out. The purpose of life isn’t to get an education, get a job, make money, and retire before you die. Your life is far more significant than your career. You were made for eternal purposes.

The Bible says, “Give yourselves completely to God—every part of you—for you are back from death and you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes” (Romans 6:13 TLB).

The problem is, many people secretly fear that God could never use them. Some people feel disqualified because of their past sins and mistakes. Others feel unqualified because they don’t feel like they have the right education, talents, or background.

Maybe you feel one of those two ways—disqualified or unqualified. But you only have to look at the life of the Apostle Paul to know that God wants to use you in ways you can’t even imagine.

Nobody in history has been used by God more than Paul. Paul almost single-handedly spread Christianity all over the Roman Empire. He planted churches everywhere. He wrote about half of the New Testament. He lived with purpose to please God.

But do you know what Paul was doing before he became a preacher, a pastor, and a church planter? He was an anti-Christian crusader. He went from village to village persecuting Christians, having them thrown into prison. Paul was the exact opposite of someone you’d think God could use.

Paul wrote, “You know what I was like . . . how I violently persecuted God’s church. I did my best to destroy it. But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace” (Galatians 1:13, 15 NLT).

Your past does not preclude your future. Your past is past. It doesn’t disqualify you from being used by God. The same is true with the kinds of opportunities you’ve had or didn’t have. They don’t make you unqualified. God chose you and called you, and he wants to use you today because of “his marvelous grace.”

Talk It Over

What sins or mistakes from your past make you feel disqualified to be used by God? What aspects of yourself or your story make you feel unqualified?
Who in your life is like Paul—someone who made a lot of mistakes but eventually was used by God in great ways? How does that person’s story encourage you?
Describe a time you knew God was using you for a purpose bigger than yourself. What characterized your life during that time? How can you make yourself available to be used by God in similar ways today?

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, you’ve got a place in God’s forever family ready and waiting for you. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.

Are you ready? Here’s a prayer you can start with: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want that to change, starting right now. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

La Oración Comienza Escuchando

“Durante el primer año de su reinado, yo, Daniel, al estudiar la palabra del Señor, según fue revelada al profeta Jeremías, aprendí que Jerusalén debía quedar en desolación durante setenta años”. Daniel 9:2 (NTV)

La oración no comienza hablando. Comienza escuchando.

Para que tus oraciones sean efectivas, primero escucha a Dios leyendo su Palabra, la Biblia. Necesitas dejar que Dios te hable para que sepas cómo orar, qué orar, dónde orar y cuándo orar.

Daniel oró con eficacia porque conocía la Palabra de Dios. Había sobrevivido a tres administraciones diferentes en cautiverio e incluso había sido ascendido dentro de ellas. Tenía 85 años y sabía que Dios había prometido traer a los israelitas a casa después de 70 años en Babilonia. Pero también sabía que los israelitas no se habían vuelto a Dios. Setenta años después, todavía estaban tan desordenados como siempre.

Debido a que estudió las Escrituras, Daniel sabía lo que Dios había prometido y lo que se requería de Israel. Por eso, pudo tomar decisiones acertadas.

Nunca vas a orar con eficacia hasta que estudies las Escrituras y aprendas de la Palabra de Dios todos los días. Cuanto más conozcas la Biblia, más oraciones Dios te contestará. Tienes que leer la Palabra de Dios todos los días para que puedas aprender y recordar las promesas que Dios te ha hecho.

No te vayas a la cama sin dedicar algún tiempo, para escuchar a Dios leyendo la Biblia y luego hablando con Él. Daniel hizo esto tres veces al día durante más de 70 años. Para él era un hábito diario.

¿Crees que tu vida sería diferente si tuvieras una conversación con Dios tres veces al día durante toda tu vida? No es de extrañar que Daniel evitara los problemas, se hiciera sabio y siguiera siendo ascendido.

Desarrollar un hábito de estudio bíblico diario y de oración, revolucionará tu vida. Te hará mental, emocional y espiritualmente más fuerte. Tendrás más confianza, menos miedo y menos estrés. Mejorará cada área de tu vida.

Proponte hoy comenzar una disciplina saludable de estudio de la Biblia y de oración, para que puedas escuchar a Dios y hablar con Él.

God Will Tell You What to Say

“The Holy Spirit, God's gift, does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them. If you will stir up this inner power, you will never be afraid to tell others about our Lord.”

2 Timothy 1:7-8 (TLB)

Over the last few days, we’ve looked at some of the reasons you can be confident when sharing your faith. Remember, you don’t have to know all the answers, because Jesus does.

And, you have to learn to be a good listener so you can find the key to someone’s heart and lead them to Jesus.

Here’s something else you need to remember: You’re not alone when you share your hope in Christ. God is with you. And his Spirit is working in that other person’s heart while you’re talking.

The Bible says, “The Holy Spirit, God’s gift, does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them. If you will stir up this inner power, you will never be afraid to tell others about our Lord” (2 Timothy 1:7-8 TLB).

You’ll never be afraid to tell others about the Lord when you realize the Holy Spirit’s power and God’s truth are in you. That should give you a lot of confidence!

Another Bible passage to help you share your faith is Luke 21:13-15: “This will be your chance to tell about your faith. Don’t worry about what you will say to defend yourselves. I will give you the wisdom to know what to say” (CEV).

It’s common to get anticipatory fear. You think, “I don’t know what to say to that person at the office, on the soccer field, or in my neighborhood.” But God says to you, “I will tell you what to say when you need it.”

What an amazing promise! You may not feel ready or equipped to share the gospel, but the truth is, you have everything you need in God’s presence and power in you.
