Off The Record by Sawyer Bennett…. A Review
Book Description:
Ever Montgomery suffered the ultimate betrayal by the one man who she should have been able to count on for anything. It has left her hurt, jaded and incapable of forming relationships, but it also means that she can spot a liar a mile away. These traits are earning her a reputation as a reporter with a keen nose for a good story and a complete understanding of the extreme power of the written word.
Lincoln Caldwell, is the hot goalie for the New York Rangers. At twenty-four and a rising star, he works hard and he plays even harder. He’s gorgeous and carefree—the ultimate charmer. Ladies fall at his feet and the single life has never been lived the way Linc Caldwell does it.
When Ever publishes an article about Linc containing information that she received off the record, she finds herself on the receiving end of the athelete’s fury. Rather than basking in the glory of exposing Linc as a shameless user of women, she finds herself at his mercy when he demands and receives retribution. Required by her editor to trail Linc for six weeks, Ever is forced to look at the real Linc Caldwell.
And she just might find that she has misjudged him.
** This book can be read as a stand alone, as can any book in the Off Series.
My Thoughts
Today’s review is a guest review from none other than my Partner in Crime- Chelly! She’s taken a few books off my hands while I’m on Vacation! She also attended Book Bash with me last week and will be going to #NASW13 with me as well!!
4 Stars
Ever Montgomery is an aspiring journalist who lands an interview (with a little help from her friend) with the New York Rangers hottest and most eligible bachelor, Lincoln Caldwell. The interview goes well and Linc seems like a genuinely nice guy, the hottie even asks Ever out, but she declines due to an upcoming out-of-town assignment. Before the night is over, after overhearing some girls chatting in the bathroom and walking in on Linc in a compromising position in the bedroom, Ever’s perception of Linc changes greatly. After having her heart broken more than once by men in her life, this rubs Ever the wrong way and she decides to call Linc out on his womanizing ways…publicly…as in blast him in New York Post. Linc does thoroughly enjoy the single life, but he’s not as bad as Ever portrays him to be. He demands that Ever gets reassigned to him for 6 weeks, where she will be with him 24/7 and he will prove to her that he is not the player she made him out to be, and she will have to publish a new, very truthful article about the real Lincoln Caldwell. It doesn’t take long for Ever to change her mind. After being betrayed by men in her life on more than one occasion, Ever refuses to let herself feel for anyone. Can Linc melt the ice around her heart and prove that the chance at love is worth the risk of pain?
This book is full of all kinds of feels – sadness, angst, sexual tension, stubbornness, and finally, happiness. Everything about this story is real, it’s not “insta-love”, they have to work for their HEA. I could completely connect with the characters and their pasts, and I love how the author threw in some real-life situations. I’ll definitely be looking forward to reading more by Sawyer Bennett!

About the Author
Some may consider me a jack of all trades, but I consider myself well rounded.
I’ve waitressed, styled hair, answered phones and, most recently, worked full time as mom to my two beautiful little boys.
Then there was this book… Everyone and their brother started talking about this book series titled Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James. I didn’t really pay attention to the craze at first, since I wasn’t a big reader- okay, I didn’t read at all. But curiosity got the best of me, so I downloaded it to my kindle.
I was immediately hooked. I read the whole series in three days. Yes, three books in three days.
I kept finding all these great books that I HAD to read (just ask my credit card!).
Then I started hearing voices. Voices that turned into stories; stories that were begging to get out of my head.
I started writing them down on scraps of paper. Then I transferred them to my computer. Before I knew it, Planning on Forever was born.
The voices in my head are still talking, so I’m still writing.

Never Too Far Blast

Kindle Edition, 272 pages
Published May 10th 2012 by Kalmaha Press
A harrowing story of love and survival.
In a future of scarce resources, where the possession of gas and diesel is punishable by death, a teenage boy and a pregnant girl must save their impoverished family. They risk their lives on a terrifying journey to sell stolen fuel on the black market.

Mary surprised Joe by knocking his arms away. She was stronger than she looked. Thenshe swept her legs off the bed and sprang to her feet. She took two steps and turned to face
him as if to prove there was nothing wrong with her. But there was definitely something wrong.
She wavered a moment. Her already white face turned ghostly. Her eyelids trembled. She
seemed to realize she was becoming faint, and what that meant.
“I’m fine,” she said. “You don’t have to go.”
Joe got ready to catch her in case she fell, but somehow she held herself steady.
“It’s okay,” Joe said. “Just sit down. I will go find some food.”
Joe inched toward her. He was afraid to grab her again because she might try to wrench
free once more and really fall. When she coughed, her little shoulders jerked and her round
stomach jumped. Her head was drooped low and her hair hung down so he couldn’t see her
face at all.
“Come on, lay down,” Joe said.
She didn’t move. Joe stepped toward her, but before he could put his arms around her,
she tilted forward and rested the crown of her head against his chest. He slid his arms along
the sides of her hard belly and around her waist. Then he shifted her toward the bed again. She
moved like a bundle of empty sacks in his arms. He set her gently on the bed before he bent
down to lift her feet onto the sheets.
After he sat in the chair, Mary asked him, “What if you don’t come back?”
“That’s not going to happen,” Joe said.
“How do you know?”
“I just know. You have to trust me.”

I lie back on the beach and put my hands behind my head. “So, we’re gonna spend the whole summer hanging out and I’m not allowed to get to know you even in the most basic and simple ways? Is that how this is gonna go, Fee?”
She lies back next to me and turns on her side, her eyes searching mine. “Why do you insist that I am her? I’m not her, Brody. This fact will hurt you if you don’t accept it and I don’t want to hurt you. You’re nice, I like you, but I’m not that girl.”
“I want you to be her.” I tell her truthfully. “I so, so want you to be her, Francesca. I cannot even explain how much I want to talk to her again. How much I want to tell her about all the days we never shared, to tell her that I thought of her at the end of every single one of them and that I prayed to God for years, every night, on my fucking knees, that she’d come back. I want to give her the Fruit Roll-Up I brought to school that first day back after summer vacation. That stupid Fruit Roll-Up that I still have hidden away, because I had this faith as a kid. This unwavering faith that only a kid can have that one day my friend would be back. And when she finally showed up, I’d give her that stupid snack to show her how much I missed her. And to prove myself to her. Because that little girl was my soulmate.”
She frowns so deep it makes me hold my breath.
“I’m sorry,” I say, turning my head to stare up at the sky. “I shouldn’t tell you this stuff, I’m sorry.” I’m projecting, that’s what I’m doing. I want Francesca to be my Fee so bad I’m starting to believe it myself, even as she sits here and tells me straight up she’s not her.
Her hand touches my cheek and I look back over.
“You can ask me one question, but it can’t be about my other life.”
I laugh. “What good does that do me?”
“Well, you can ask about things, but not my family, or school, or the places I’ve lived.”
“Give me a for example, because I’m not seeing the difference.”
She sighs and turns away, biting on her thumbnail a little. “OK,” she says, turning back. “For example, I’ll ask you the first question and you answer, then I’ll answer the same question for you.”
I smile.
She chews on her bottom lip this time. Clearly she is nervous. “All right, tell me about the best day of your life.”
I sit up and stare down at her. “The best day of my life?”
She nods.
“Today, Fee. The best day of my life is today.”

Excerpt
And then it dawned on me. If Brad wasn’t getting off on my jelly parts, then whose jelly mould was he filling instead?
“Oh. My. God. Who is she?”
Adam had taken a seat on my pastel pink sofa and his eyes were burning into me as I held my breath, waiting for the reply.
“What? What do you mean who is she?”
I snorted a laugh.
“Now who needs to be honest? I’m not an idiot Brad. You’re not fucking me and I know you aren’t self-pleasuring. We both know how you hate the mess and all. So don’t bother pretending like you’re not screwing some skank. I should probably get fucking tested. Do you keep your clothes on with her to avoid all the icky sex sweat too?”
That seemed to just make him angry.
“She is not a skank!”
I knew it! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! Oh the arsehole-ism knows no bounds! Not only was I jilted, dumped and fat, but I was also cheated! Merry Christmas Charlene!
“You dick! You complete and total dick! How long!? Who is she? I have a right to know!”
He sighed deeply in a self-pitying way as though it were hard for him to speak. Pfft. He’d get no sympathy from me. He’d given me a ring and now I would give him the finger. Metaphorically speaking of course.
“Uh, Charlie?”
I turned around and held my hand over the receiver as I snapped at Adam.
“Shhh. Can’t you see I’m in the middle of being crushed? Can’t a girl get dumped in peace anymore?”
He made a gesture as though he were zipping his mouth shut and leaned back in his seat.
“She’s a woman from work. We went out for drinks one evening after work. We were celebrating a huge win on a case. One thing led to another and…”
“And you had a minor memory lapse in which you forgot you were engaged!? You are such an asshole!”
“I never meant for it to happen, Charlene. It just did. I’m sorry and I would have preferred you to have never found out but I couldn’t marry you when I’m in love with Aneska.”
The skank had a name. Aneska. Sounded like some sort of medicinal cream you rubbed on a bad nappy rash or irritation. Right now, that’s exactly what she was. A pain in my arse!
“I hate you. I hate you so fucking much.”
“Please try to understand, Charlene. I’m doing this for both of us.”
I laughed.
“Oh, how silly of me. I should have thanked you for shagging your colleague. It was such a wonderful and sweet gesture for you to make. It’s the best Christmas gift I could ever have asked for. Truly. But next year, I’d love for you to stick your dick in a live plug socket! It’ll leave you just as shocked and burning as I am right now! It would be the best gift ever.”
I cast my eye at Adam who had crossed his legs and cleared his throat a little. He was clearly imaging how that sort of connection might feel. Shame Brad couldn’t have done the same. If he’d have kept his fucking legs crossed, I wouldn’t currently want to hack his dick off with a rusty kitchen knife. Meat and two veg, coming right up!

Tony vs Christian: A Consequences Review

Book Description
Publication Date: August 3, 2011
Besieged by memories of a brutal abduction, Claire Nichols wakes in an unfamiliar bedroom, within a luxurious mansion. Her recollections have one common denominator, the man she just met, Anthony Rawlings. Unbeknownst to Claire, for a very long time, she has been within Anthony’s sights. Many of the pivotal events in her life occurred, due to his sinister manipulation. Every action has a consequence, and his actions result in their chance meeting. More than a psychological thriller, Consequences is a vivid story of one woman’s struggle to survive incomprehensible circumstances. Every aspect of her being suddenly depends upon the tall, wealthy, dark haired, dark eyed businessman. Anthony Rawlings is known to the world as prosperous, benevolent, and kind. Claire quickly learns that he can also be a menacing controlling captor. With few options but concession, Claire attempts to earn her freedom, while enduring a hellish existence that truly appears perfect. Persevering tests and trials, she struggles to retain her pure Midwest values and beliefs. Encouraged by memories of a loving upbringing, she gains strength in the simplest of joys: solitude in nature and good in the face of evil. His goal in sight, Anthony’s calculated agenda encounters an unforeseen detour. He becomes captivated by Claire’s beauty, resilience, and determination. The interaction of these two compelling characters instigates strong emotions: fear, anger, love, and lust. Claire and Anthony’s tumultuous journey flows into uncharted waters of intrigue and passion. Utilizing vivid detail, this 167,000-word novel unfolds like a movie, before the eyes of its readers. From the opening criminal abduction, through twists and turns, to the unlikely romantic thrills, the suspense climaxes as Anthony’s motivation becomes evident. Anthony and Claire must decide if they will stay true to one another, or allow preceding actions to result in justifiable Consequences.
My Thoughts
Ok, I’m going to start by saying that this book is GREAT…. but…. you HAVE to be able to get past Anthony Rawlings and his actions. If you can’t you might as well move on to the next one!
I am SO honored to do this review. I have been trying to read this book for over 2 months, but due to my hectic schedule of working full-time, being a Mommy, and prior blogging commitments I had to wait until now. I am so glad that I did!
When the book starts off you think ok is she a vampire or something… it’s talking about unconscious and ice. (Or at least I did!) Then you realize oh hell no; she’s being kidnapped and abused!
Here’s a little bit about Claire and Anthony… Claire is a hard-working meteorologist turned Bartender due to cutbacks. There is a spark in her eye, and I just love how she portrays herself. Anthony is a hardworking business man. You know, tall, dark, and handsome? But there is so much more to him… he has an EXTREMELY dark side.
My title for today is “Tony vs. Christian,” there is a reason for that! They have so many similarities. (Oh, and by Christian I mean Mr. Grey… just incase you are clueless ) But there is one MAJOR difference…. Anna knew what she was signing up for… Claire didn’t.
I will say that when I first began to read this book, I was unsure if I could read it due to the abuse that Claire faces. However, I continued. There are SO many things I’d love to say but I don’t want to spoil it!
Claire and Tony’s relationship is like the seasons of the year. They need time to grow and learn about each other. I want to let you know that I went through each of those seasons with them. They also need to understand that there are consequences for each others actions.
Let me let you in on my EXACT feelings about Tony….
-Season 1: That Mother Fuckin Asshole! Bless Claire’s heart!
-Season 2: Ok, MAYBE he’s not so bad possibly a real life “Beauty and the Beast”
-Season 3: Maybe that Ice cold heart is melting…. MAYBE…
-Season 4: OMG! That ASSHOLE! PLEASE TELL ME THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!
Speaking of the Truth! That is book 2 after the phenomenal Consequences! Get it now, but be prepared to understand how severe consequences really can be!

Wowza!….Sins of the Father: A Review
Genre: Fiction, Women’s Fiction, suspense
Release Date: 6/15/13
Synopsis: Sins of the Father a riveting story of struggle, courage and self discovery as Annalynn McKae desperately seeks the truth about her father as he stands accused of being a ruthless and sadistic serial killer that has been on the loose for twenty-six years.
Annalynn McKae has never experienced much tragedy in life except the illness of her mother who has been plagued with Rheumatoid Arthritis since she was eleven. The disease has left her mother’s body stone like, leaving the care of both mother and daughter on Alexander Mckae her adoring father. It was because of his unwavering dedication to their family that she couldn’t believe, wouldn’t believe the horrible reality of what her father really is when he is accused of being the notorious Potomac Creek serial killer.
Sins of the Father is a fiction novel about a young woman discovering life and its faculties, but also the suspense filled journey of powering through struggles no matter what they may be and gaining a vast perspective of how ones ties to family can be their ultimate demise.
My Thoughts
Wowza! This was a FAN-Freakin-Tastic read! I love when authors seek me out to see what I think! I am so glad that Krystal Milton did!
What happens when everything you have ever known is a lie? That everything you thought you knew about your family is completely bullshit? Well, that is exactly what happens when Annalynn’s world is completely turned upside down!
Annalynn is the perfect daughter. In fact, she has put her life on hold for her mother and sacrificed her life for making sure her mother is taken care of as well as being daddy’s little girl. When her father is accused of being a serial killer, her world is turned upside down. Is he innocent? Guilty? Who knows?
Annalynn takes her mother and goes to other family’s home only to have someone harass them as well. Annalynn is forced to make choices that are difficult for anyone, but especially a nineteen year old.
A detective on the case becomes very important to Annalynn on a personal level, but when her life is put in danger an entire new emotion is found within Annalynn.
This book is one of anger, heartbreak, guilt, innocent, love, trust, innocence, and making the right choices. The ending is phenomenal. I will say there is a twist in the end, but not necessary in a bad way like most would think… in fact, I found it weird, but could totally see the perspective if this story was true.
I only have one complaint … I wanted to know more… more about what happens next? Does she speak up? Does she keep quiet? Does she find love? I just wanna know! So if you want read that will have you wanting more because there are so many what ifs? This is the read for you!
Reviews:
“I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this book or not but I have to admit I did. It is not my normal Genre but I did like it… The pacing was good. Had a nice flow. This was a story that I wanted to get to the ending quickly (to find out who dunnit) Which is a good thing. Means I didn’t want to put it down…“- Tammy from Media Comb
“I finished reading your book.. Twice. It was amazing. I loved the edge you’ve given and it is some part which I haven’t considered really
It was really brilliant… is really very well written…”- Niyati from thebookishfoodiereviews.wordpress.com
“that book is very deep and I enjoyed reading… the way you write is unexplainably wonderful I was hooked by the first page… as far as detailing and making sure that everything is in its correct manner you are on top of it hands down, not to mention catching the eye and keeping it. I love how it goes from one thing to another, kinda keeps you wondering which is something I like in a book.” – Kayla McClinton
Excerpt – Sins of the Father
There hasn’t been a time I can remember where she wasn’t sick or in pain. As she grew older, her body seemed to take on the shape of a penguin, her back arched, knees bent, and her hands flopped over at the wrists angled towards the floor. Father had to be my rock, since mother couldn’t tend to me the way she used to; her body no longer allowing her to hold or caress me.
I remember the days when she used to cry, her eyes begging me to understand how much she longed to touch me, to place her hand on my face to feel its texture, to smooth her fingers through my hair to braid it.
She couldn’t help me with prom, couldn’t even hold a camera to take a picture. Mother couldn’t even dress herself, the task daunting as her fingers barely moved anymore.
Her arms were frail but littered with little lumps from the nodules underneath her skin. She barely talked or went out into the sun due to the inflammation of her glands in eyes and mouth.
Most often she ate through a straw and even when that became too much, was given an IV drip to keep her fluids up. Father or I applied her eye drops thrice a day to ease the dryness in her eyes.
As I opened the fridge taking out a pack of chicken cutlets, I thought of how important my father has been for both of us. He has attended every ballet recital, spelling bee, soccer event, tennis tournament, acceptance speech, graduation…any monumental element in my life, since mother could not.
And on top of all the excruciating childhood memorials, he still made time to work sixty hours a week, and attend every wellness care, chiropractic and therapeutic doctors visit with mother.
He still made time to help with her daily routine. When the part time nurse we hired needed to leave early or take an extra day off, father would be there to take over. He never let me miss a class, seeing my friends, or school event to care for mother.
It was the guilt that kept me home instead of going to UCLA in California like I wanted. It was the thought of not giving back to the people who cared for me so deeply that kept me home, attending the local Georgetown University so that I could help.
I got a part time job at Stella’s boutique between Wisconsin Ave and M Street, father’s position in the bank being influential in getting the job.
I was able to have lunch with him sometimes since our jobs were so close, attend my classes, complete the household chores, hang out, work, and be there for my parents. It’s the least I could do, since father gave his life basically, for my mother and me.
It was because of this dedication to our life and family, that when the pounding on the door interrupted my meal preparation, when the police stormed in with big bold letters SWAT on their back, helmets on their heads, guns in their arms pointing here, there, everywhere, that the reality of who and what my father really was didn’t seem plausible.
I denied everything they said. All the accusations were wrong. My father was a sweet, humble, hard working, brilliant, loving husband and father. My father was not a rapist, neither was he a narcissist. He definitely wasn’t a killer, their killer…The Potomac Creek Killer.
