Heart of Jaded Justice by RL Dodson
Title: Heart of Jaded Justice
Author: R. L. Dodson
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Book Synopsis
Retired federal agent Ashley Cameron had disappeared into anonymity for years until summoned to help a family member. Now, she finds herself thrown back into the world of filth, treachery, money, drugs and murder that almost destroyed her years earlier. Not to mention, the loss of Anthony, her one and only true love. After twelve years, she still lives with the physical scars and vivid nightmares from her past. A world where the players consist of elected officials owned by The Colombian Drug Cartel and the Dixie Mafia. The success of this operation will mean plunging into her own gruesome past, one filled with a shattered heart, bitter disillusionment and a heart jaded by justice. Can Ashley get back in the game and face the truths that lurk beneath the surface? Is she prepared for the feelings that still exist and can she open her heart up to the even more terrifying possibility of a future without revealing the secret she has kept for years?…
Excerpt
”Are you trying to drown yourself?” Anthony’s dark voice drawled silkily from the arched doorway to the garden oasis.
Ashley’s eyes snapped open and she bolted upright from the massive bubble filled tub, slipped clumsily against the ceramic bottom and slid completely underwater.
She came up sputtering, “What the hell are you doing here? How did you get in here?” She stammered angrily, coughing water from her lungs.

“He
who?” Maude Lowenstein prompted. “If your feelings for him aren’t an issue,
then how come you haven’t said his name? He’s not Voltemort, last I checked.
Saying his name won’t conjure him out of thin air.”
“Trace.
His name is Trace. And while I fully support his A Hand Up charity-thing, I
have no interest in being involved in his benefit concert. I’ll donate a signed
guitar or something. But I’m not going to it. I wasn’t even technically
invited. We done here?”
“You
were invited, Kylie. He’s having a hard time. The venue pulled out because of
his rehab stay and so did some of his family-friendly sponsors. The event’s
been moved to his property in Macon and his sister called me personally and
invited you.”
The
words wrapped around her heart and squeezed. Kylie swallowed and looked up at
the ceiling. She sucked in a lungful of air and glanced from her agent to her
manager.
The
other two people at her table exchanged glances and Chaz cleared his throat.
Kylie’s
eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Why do they want us to sing it at some benefit?
I don’t see how that would make any difference to them.”

Who wants CAKE?!
Synopsis
Would you be willing to make a mess of your life to get exactly what you want?
Kylie Lord has known Trent Moss and Dray Savage since college. Trent, the smart and kind-hearted humanitarian has had her heart from the moment they met, but someone else always had his. Dray is an arrogant professional football player who happens to be Trent’s best friend and Kylie’s nemesis “with benefits.”
Three years after graduation, Kylie is commanding the world with a successful business; however, she lacks the one thing she wants and the one thing she can never have. That is, until one fateful day when Kylie decides to go after all of her forbidden fantasies and risk everything.
Two men, completely different and poles apart, but together they are her idea of perfection. One can only offer her tonight and the other forever, but can Kylie settle for just one man, or can she have her cake and eat it too?
Casey’s Thoughts
I know that I’m behind, and yes, I should have read this one like months ago. But we all know how our TBR list is never ending.
From the first word in Cake by Nicole Reed I was pulled in immediately. From the first time that we are introduced to Kylie, Trent, and Dray. You know that this story is going somewhere and it’s gonna be one hell of a ride.
Who’s ever been in “love” with your best guy friend. You pray that he will open his eyes one day and realize that you are the one? I think most of us have been that way at some point in our lives. Well, this is defiantly Kylie’s dilemma. She’s been in a drought with men because she’s in love with someone that is clueless.
So, what happens when that guy asks you to do the unthinkable… take care of your worst enemy, Dray. Do you do it for love? Kylie does it for love, but only to find out that Dray might not be so bad after all. What happens when you realize you might want your cake and eat it too? Is that so wrong?
This book had me laughing out loud at the references and situations they were in. I was pulling for the enemy, praying that one night doesn’t change everything, and trying to figure out the future of the biggest love triangle I’ve ever read.
About 3/4 of the way through I sent Nicole a message and was like PLEASSSSEEEE tell me that his is going to work out the way I want it to. Needless to say, it does, but with a twist like none other.
So if you want a little taste of your cake and eating it too then Cake is the book for you. It has easily jumped to the top of one of my favorite of all times!

A Sip of You by @SorchaGrace
Genre: CONTEMPORARY EROTIC ROMANCE
Synopsis
A young food photographer’s appetites are further explored as her love affair with a handsome billionaire gourmand deepens. Book 2 in the The Epicurean series.
The undeniable chemistry between food photographer Catherine Kelley and billionaire gourmand William Lambourne has become an unquenchable thirst…
Catherine’s career in Chicago is taking off and the handsome stormy-eyed stranger who recently rocked her world has become — dare she say it? — her boyfriend. Dating a billionaire who’s a god in the bedroom and a virtuoso in the kitchen definitely has its perks. But it’s the unguarded, tender moments with William that stir Cat’s heart and reawaken her appetite for love. A weekend trip to William’s vineyard so he can face a painful loss puts their new relationship to the test. Complex and layered, William is at once passionate and sweet, but also prickly and guarded. He’s promised openness, but it becomes immediately clear that Cat’s version of honesty and his are as different as chardonnay and pinot noir. It’s hard to fault William for his secretive ways when Cat knows she’s holding back, too. As the attraction between them gets even hotter, Catherine and William must share all of their secrets before their relationship can truly begin. And little does Cat know how dangerous confronting their pasts will be.
A Sip of You Dreamcast

Excerpt
…“Sometimes I wonder what you’re doing with me.”
He raised a brow as he slid out a drawer, produced a corkscrew, and began to open the bottle of wine. “Why would you say that? It’s me who doesn’t deserve you. You’re talented, smart, beautiful, and great in bed. How lucky am I?”
Well, when he put it that way… My cheeks flushed, but I made myself accept the compliment. “Thank you. I just meant that I’m such a mess, and you’re so organized.” I watched as he effortlessly pulled out the cork and then grabbed two wine glasses from an upper cabinet. He poured, filling each with a deep pink liquid that I immediately recognized.
“Is that the same rosé we drank at Casa di Rosabela?” I asked. The rosé that he was so proud of, the rosé which had inspired my safe word. I could feel my blush deepen across my cheeks.
William smiled broadly as he handed me a glass. “Very observant. It is. See, I’ll make a wine connoisseur out of you yet, Catherine. Cheers.” We touched glasses. I sipped the wine, dribbling a bit on my bottom lip. I lifted my hand to catch it before it ran onto my chin, but he grabbed my hand and shook his head. His eyes were dark and intense. My breath hitched.
“Messy can be sexy,” he said, touching his finger to my mouth. “Very sexy.” He dipped his head and licked the drop of wine from my bottom lip. At the taste of him mixed with the bright yet delicate flavors of the rosé, my thoughts flashed back to Napa, to our night with the honey and handcuffs and his scorching hot kisses between my legs. My arms came up and I wrapped them around his neck, pulling his mouth to mine for a deeper kiss. He didn’t resist, and this time I pushed him back, pinning him to the counter and pressing against him.
“I thought…you wanted to talk,” he said, his voice husky and breathless with need. I loved that I could do this to him, that I could make him want me so much.
“Talking can wait,” I muttered. “I’ve missed you too much.” …

Chelly’s Thoughts
First off, if you haven’t read A Taste Of You, you’ll need to read it first, as A Sip of You picks up where the first book left off. Even though Northern California is the last place Catherine wants to be, she will do anything for William, including being there for him when his long-lost, presumed-dead brother has possibly been found. After William leaves her in his mansion alone for days, Catherine decides to venture out in Napa and runs into one of the biggest reasons she left Cali – her dead husband’s brother, Jeremy. He wants to pick up where they left off but she’s ashamed of the person she turned in to after Jace died, she’s not that girl anymore. She can’t take being alone or being left in the dark when it comes to William…why won’t he open up to her and let her know what’s going on in his life? Where does he keep disappearing to?
William Lambourne…..mmm, yes please! Who wouldn’t love a sexy, dominant billionaire with wicked skills in the kitchen and in the bedroom? Catherine is falling in love with the glimpses she sees of the softer William, but do those glimpses make up for the craziness of his life? Money and fame can mean a lot of nice things, but it can also mean danger. Catherine’s tired of the secrets and last minute trips…what will it take for William finally open up to her and let her fully into his life? He feels she’s better off if she doesn’t know everything…if she knew, she may run away for good…
I did enjoy A Sip of You for the most part, especially William, but Catherine just got on my nerves. She was so wishy-washy and self-centered. I will give her credit for finally figuring that out about herself, but it still drove me crazy. It seemed most of the book was either William and Catherine fighting about him being gone, or them in the bedroom. Don’t get me wrong, the bedroom scenes (and kitchen scenes, and shower scenes) were very ummm…well written ;-)…but I wanted to see more emotional moments between the two.
I felt A Sip of You was very similar to 50 Shades in some of the scenes and characters, but it was different at the same time. There was an undercurrent of a mystery in the story and I’m very interested in seeing how that plays out, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for A Feast of You. I’m also hoping for more on Hutch Morrison, the HOT, tatted, southern chef who wants to work with Catherine. I think he has potential to give William a run for his money…

On the Rocks by Sawyer Bennett

Synopsis
He left to travel the world for fame and glory, but only after spurning Gabby Ward and crushing her young heart. Now Hunter Markham has come back home to the sand and salty breeze of the North Carolina Outer Banks so he can open up Last Call, a beach bar nestled among the dunes of the Atlantic.
Gabby Ward is not happy that Hunter has returned. Bitter over his rebuff years before, she’s content to stay far away from him and his dangerously charming ways.
Gabby’s well-schemed plans to ignore Hunter go up in flames when he presents an offer to her that she simply can’t refuse, throwing them together in a common quest to each reach their goals. Working together day in and day out proves to be problematic for Gabby, who soon realizes that the feelings she had for him are still very much alive. Hunter struggles to reach through to Gabby’s cold heart, all while starting a new career away from his life as a top ranked, professional surfer.
What starts out as a mutual business arrangement soon turns into a passion that neither of them can continue to deny.
Hard choices lay ahead for both of them when Hunter is offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to return to the pro surfing tour.
Choices that could destroy what they have built or take them further than they ever had dared to hope.
Chelly’s Thoughts
Sawyer Bennett has done it again! I have never been disappointed by anything she writes, and the books just keep getting better and better. On The Rocks opens up with Gabby and Casey partying on graduation night. Gabby has been in love with her BFF Casey’s older brother, Hunter, for the last 8 years. After some liquid courage, she moves in for a kiss, and he kisses her back. She’s dreamed of this moment for years, but his look of disgust afterwards wasn’t a part of her dreams. He breaks her heart, and her love turns to hatred…
Fast forward 5 years, Gabby Ward is 23 years old and trying to make a name for herself. When her father passed away, she dropped out of her senior year in college to take over the family construction business. Only problem is no one wants to hire a young female general contractor. She plans on making a bid for a job that would change her future and solidify her reputation, but the downside is the job is for the remodel of Hunter’s bar, Last Call. She’s avoided him for all these years; can she put her hatred aside for the good of the business?
Hunter Markham has been on the Pro Surfing circuit for years now, but after his twin, Brody, is released from prison after serving 5 years, he decides it’s time to go back home and help his brother get back in the swing of things. He’s nervous about Gabby working on his bar, but he’s willing to put his feelings aside and hire her if the work and price is up to par. He knows he hurt Gabby all those years ago. Truth is he’d wanted her, too, but she was forbidden…his little sister’s BFF, like his own sister. He regrets how they’ve fought all these years but what can he do to make it right?
When Hunter finally comes clean about his true feelings for Gabby, he expects everything to be fine, but Gabby continues to push him away. She realizes she still has feelings for him (far from hatred) but she continues to deny him…he’s already broken her heart once, and if she lets him in, he’ll have the power to destroy her. Besides, there’s always the possibility of him going back out on tour…could they even sustain a relationship with him gone for months at a time? When the time comes for some difficult decisions, will Hunter do what’s best for him or what he thinks is best for everyone else?
I am absolutely in LOVE with Hunter Markham! I’ve said it before, but Sawyer Bennett has an incredible talent and she really has a way of putting you in her character’s heads and making you feel what they feel. On The Rocks is told in dual POVs, and there’s nothing like getting inside Hunter’s head, but I was most intrigued by Brody and I can’t wait to hear more from him. His story, Make It A Double, will be the second book in the Last Call series, and I will be not-so-patiently waiting for it’s release.

Synopsis
When Liz moves to a new high school, she hopes for a fresh start. School is her escape from the violence at home and her only hope for breaking the cycle of poverty she was born into. Trying to shield her siblings from her stepfather’s fury gets harder each day so when she meets Logan, she thinks it will be a harmless distraction from the fear. She’s Wrong. Logan has the resources to change her life but at what cost? Her relationship is the best thing that ever happened to her but it could also be the worst. If she’s not careful, she may lose everyone that’s important to her. But it’s hard to be careful when you’re fifteen and in love.
Chelly’s Thoughts
Home is the one place where you’re supposed to feel safe, but that isn’t true for Liz. Safe for her is anywhere outside of her home, and she would rather be anywhere else, but she feels an obligation to make sure her younger brother and sister stay safe. She has no choice but to go back.
Liz Martin wants to start over. After being away from her old school for two years (where she was previously known as “Beefy Beth”), she’s back with a new name, a new body, and a new determination to make the life she wants for herself. Rumors are flying about why she was really gone but her friends know the truth, that’s all that matters. At 15, she’s never had a boyfriend, but when Logan Cooper, the hottest senior in school, shows interest in her, she knows it would never work. He’s way out of her league, not to mention her drug-dealing perv of a step-dad, Jesse, would literally kill any guy she tried to be with, but a girl can dream, right?
Very few people know the real truth of Liz’s home life, the main one being her best friend since kindergarten, Kim. Kim’s family has tried and tried over the years to get Liz out of her home, but Liz can’t leave her siblings behind to fend for themselves. If Logan ever found out about her home life and where she lived, he’s sure to run away as fast as he can. No matter how many times he tries to reassure Liz, can she really trust him with her secrets? No one has ever made her feel special or loved, could Logan be the one to change that? When Logan finally learns the truth about the real Elizabeth Martin, will he stay or will he finally realize what she’s been saying all along, that she’s not worth it?
Safer Outside is an extremely mature, very dark, young adult novel and some people may find some of the situtions difficult to read about, but I loved it. I was very surprised that this was a debut novel from Kristina Renee, it seemed to me like she’s been writing for years. The author did a great job of developing the characters and making you feel their happiness, as well as their heartache. The main complaint I have is I wanted more! The ending felt a little bit rushed to me. There was sooo much packed into the last couple chapters, and everything happened so fast. Also, the characters were very mature for their age, I often forgot that Liz was only 15. With some of the stuff going on, I would’ve aged Liz a couple years, but all in all it was a solid read and I look forward to much more from this author.
