Graphic Novel Review – The Sculptor by Scott McCloud (First Second Books)

The SculptorThe Sculptor by Scott McCloud
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I sat on this book for way too long. The cover is fine, but I don’t think it does justice to the amazing love story and artwork within. The story is of a struggling artist who would give anything to find commercial success, and when he’s made that deal with Death, he has a certain amount if days left and a woman he’d give everything back for to live with into old age. My heart broke many times in the course of their story. The artwork blew...

Book Review: Gemini Cell by Myke Cole #military #fantasy

Gemini CellGemini Cell by Myke Cole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Myke Cole is famous for writing military fantasy, focusing on magically enhanced soldiers in modern day. I love just about everything about what he did with this book. The main focus is on a Navy Seal and his inner battle between doing the job he is best at and being the husband and father who can enjoy his family and not put them at risk. As far as that emotional battle goes, Myke completely nailed it. It was hard to keep reading at times beca...

Moons to Marbles. What good can I do that endures forever? #John6

What advice could help so many people?

What advice could help so many people?

Today’s devotions had me in 2 Kings and John 6. I’m reading through the Bible in a year using Biblehub.com.

I was really encouraged in the John 6 passage, 6:25-29, which takes place after Jesus fed over five thousand people using a basket of bread and fish. The crowd followed him to the other side of the sea, near Capernaum, looking for another sign and to be fed. Jesus offered food that would endure to eternal life.

A little context into my life is that...

They Tell Me You Are Wicked by David Hagerty #Crime #EvolvedPub

Thank you David Hagerty. “They Tell Me You Are Wicked” brought me back into reader bliss, where I gladly chose a book over any other distraction. I also love that the experience was in such a new and fresh setting as late 70’s Chicago. I’m not familiar with that time or culture, but I feel like I just lived there for a year. Kudos to a job very well done. I had no idea that was how it would turn out, even to the last line. I’m super glad to have read it and to find out that more in this world...

Josh Hayes: Family Man, Police Officer, Scifi Author

Breaking ThroughA few months ago, I considered a career as a police officer. As a husband, father of a toddler, and a publishing author, I was curious how this lifestyle might work with adding police officer to my schedule. I’m also curious to hear from someone who is doing all of these how it affects his life. Enter Josh Hayes, author of the Second Star scifi books (WebsiteAmazon page).

1)What’s the timeline between you getting married, when you first started writing for publication and when you became a...

Audiobook Review: THE LAST POLICEMAN by Ben H. Winters (Narr. Peter Berkrot)

Last Policeman The Last Policeman

Written by: Ben H. Winters
Narrated by: Peter Berkrot
Length: 8 hrs and 20 mins

Series: The Last Policeman, Book 1

Amazon | Audible | Author Website

The Last Policeman was a clever mashup of post-apocalyptic chaos in the calm but mysterious path of a detective who chooses doing what he does best while the rest of the world waits to die. From the first page to the end, Ben H. Winters proved to be an author I’ll keep on my short list for stories that are easy to enjoy, have m...

Laptop Review: Lenovo Flex 3 – 1480

I’m not a tech expert, but when you have a four month old laptop that has had constant problems and is now–already–past the point where I can get my money back, or a replacement (as though I’d want one), all I’m left to do is warn others and put my business on hold while I wait for it to ship and come back, hopefully without any more problems (unlikely).

The recent problems with my Lenovo Flex 3 – 1480 are twofold:

The computer won’t wake up from sleep. The only solution is to hard shut it d...
