Audiobook Review: MR. MERCEDES by Stephen King (Narr. Will Patton)
Wow, Mr. King. Books like this remind me what King looks like when he’s the best. Right from the first chapter we see how well he can make us care for characters in their common, yet individualized struggles. There is some hard to swallow incest moments, but even in that he’s showing us how far off the deep end people can go when faced with what seems like insurmountable twists in their lives. This is a hard book in that way. My heart broke for these characters, especially the family of the s...

Audiobook Review: THE BIG SHEEP by Robert Kroese (Narr. Fred Berman)
Robert Kroese is a shocking talent who more than surpassed my expectations on this latest book, The Big Sheep, dubbed Blade Runnermeets The Big Sleep. His last book, Starship Grifters was a hilarious story that surprised me with its complexity in the end. While that was labeled as a space opera satire, it really had a strong...

New Release: The Bomb in the President’s Bathroom (An Amish Scifi novelette) by Timothy C. Ward
Two years ago I was given one of my most exciting professional opportunities. While at my day job of monkey with a clip on, I received an offer to help fill a last minute vacancy in a hot ticket anthology set in Michael Bunker’s world of Pennsylvania. For those who haven’t read it, it is pure candy, addictive scifi with an Amish/space colonization slant.
So, anyway I was offered a shot to get a short story into this anthology if I could write it in a week. I’ve written short stories on comman...

Review: The Pawn in the Portal (A Wyrd Short Story) by Nick Cole
The Pawn in the Portal: A Wyrd Short Story by Nick Cole
Print Length: 43 pages
Publisher: Nick Cole (April 20, 2016)
Very interesting idea for a short story. It’s essentially a well developed conversation about faith and agnosticism between two survivors in a zombie apocalypse where the strong twist at the end wisely illustrates the choice everyone must make when facing death. No straw men on either side of the discussion. This is the kind of deep philosophical examination that the end of the...
Book Review: THE SILENCE by Tim Lebbon
The Silence by Tim Lebbon
Print Length: 400 pages
Publisher: Titan Books (April 14, 2015)
Cheers to Lebbon for writing another apocalyptic story that sets the genre on its ear and plows forward. After loving his inter-dimensional zombie epic, Coldbrook (review here), I was very excited to see him impress me with something equally as unique. For the most part he succeeded. The Silence adds sound as a new element of horror, creating an apocalyptic invasion of deadly vesps, a bird that reminded...

Audiobook Review – ESOTERRORISM by C.T. Phipps (Narr. Jeffrey Kafer)
Esoterrorism by C.T. Phipps
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Check out the audiobook on Audible
Prior to reading this, C.T. was just a cool guy with a great blog. I saw his The Rules of Supervillainy series and thought, I’m glad for his sales, but I’m really not a superhero fan. I really wanted to read his books, though, and so when Esoterrorism came out on audiobook I gave it a shot. The cross between James Bond and Jim Butcher wasn’t exactly down my wheelhouse for genre preferences, but because I li...

Scavenger: A.I. releases at $0.99 #KindleUnlimited
While my son does “Crazy Kai” with a curtain, I need to share big news and the limited window on some giveaways and sales. (Rachel, if you’re reading, the curtain is fine. We miss you. Come home soon. You’re as appreciated as ever.)
As you can tell from that paragraph, I’m limited on time. I’d like to share that Scavenger: A.I. is more than just a book about replicating nanobots and A.I. terrorism, it’s about expanding the story from Rush as husband and grieving father to the heart of the cha...
