Weekend for Sand Diving

SandBest Selling author, Hugh Howey, changed my life when he created a fictional technology called sand diving. First seen in his novel, Sand, this technology combines a scuba diving type of suit with electromagnetic powers to help treasure hunters survive in a fictional America covered in sand. The suit sends EM power to the diver’s fingers and toes, while a visor connected to their temple transmits what they think and see to affect the sand around them. They can make it as fluid as water or as...

Michael Bunker’s Amish Scifi Invades Hollywood

Bunker_PENNSYLVANIA_Omnibus_EbookEdition1-640x1024Exciting news today, Michael Bunker’s Amish Sci-fi novel, Pennsylvania, is being made into a feature film in Hollywood.

I’ve read Pennsylvania twice, the first time as it was serialized. Each part was addticing and thrilling as we saw a young Amish man embark on a journey to the Stars. I didn’t know what to think about the genre, Amish Sci-fi, but on top of a character you love right away, it also combines space exploration, colonizing new lands, discovering new technology, fighting a tyranni...

Halloween Deals on Great Reads

Some of these books may be on sale beyond Halloween, so if you miss this post because you’re busy celebrating costume day and scary thrills, still check these out on Amazon.

FiendFiend by Peter Stenson ($1.99 on Kindle)

An incredibly emotional dive into the depths of addiction and love which I found powerful application even for anyone striving to live up to the goals they have for themselves in the face of failing those we love. It has zombies and an incredible ending, but mostly this book rocked...

Why CHAINS OF THE HERETIC completes Jeff Salyards’ Bloodsounders Arc as Fantasy Must-Read

Chains of the Heretic: Bloodsounder's Arc Book ThreeChains of the Heretic: Bloodsounder’s Arc Book Three by Jeff Salyards
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Chains of the Heretic is the longest and best book of a trilogy that has continually made me root for Jeff Salyards to become my favorite fantasy author. He has so much going for him: his dialogue is hilarious in ways unmatched by the peers I’ve read; his action is top notch, and continues to improve with each book; and his worldbuilding with the bloodsounder weapon, the Godsveil, Memoridons, etc…

Th...

Book Review – SHADOWS OF THE HIGHRIDGE by Jay Swanson

Shadows-of-the-Highridge-by-Jay-SwansonHow would you react to someone pitching a story they say has a similar feel to the old Tremors movies, but without Kevin Bacon? While I enjoyed watching those, I don’t know that I would watch them if they’re on now, and I’m not sure a book in the same vein would be an instant buy.

Except that I’ve read Jay Swanson before and am very impressed with his Into the Nanten fantasy journal. Shadows of the Highridge is a standalone novel set in the same world with surprises and expounded magic powers...

Book Review: Ichthyic in the Afterglow by Jason Wayne Allen

Ichthyic in the Afterglowis the kind of book that the subgenre “bizarro” was invented for. It uses the mythologies of H.P. Lovecraft and Robert W. Chambers, but it isn’t really horror. It takes place in a dystopian future, but it isn’t really science fiction. Its story is driven by factions of warring cults, but it’s […]
