October is for #Scifi – Free and $0.99 deals
After writing a post-apocalyptic fantasy set in Iowa, my next book is riding the wave of fun scifi. I don’t know if I had too much time spent in the caves outside of Denver in my Scavenger books, then in the Abyss of Godsknife, but I’ve needed a breather. My Scavenger: Evolution book is part of this sale, (free for five days), on the heels of Designated Survivor doing well, in my opinion, is myode to Jack Bauer, except with sand diving and searching for buried cities.
I’m not the only other i...

Video unboxing of new Justin R. Macumber books #Fragile
I’ve been a fan of Justin R. Macumber from the early days of my resurrected writing efforts like nine years ago. His podcast, Dead Robots’ Society was a weekly inspiration for me. I enjoyed hearing Justin and his crew discuss the challenges of being an aspiring author, while also providing crucial advice on how to be successful. The Dead Robots are still kickin’ strong, even if Justin is not around as much, which is fine with me because as a retired podcaster, as well, I appreciate his focus...

I came into John Scalzi’s The Android’s Dream hoping to find a strong read and I was impressed beyond my expectations. Audiobook Review – LITTLE GIRLS by Ronald Malfi (Narr. Cassandra Campbell)
Ronald Malfi is a master of our time in this genre. His ghost story, Little Girls was at times so haunting I wasn’t in the state of mind to pick it up.
Little Girls begins with a couple and their young daughter moving back to the wife’s childhood home to claim the property after her father’s suicide. She hasn’t spoken to her father for years, and never had a good relationship with him even before old age led to dementia. Her return home brings back difficult memories of her father, and then a...

Last day for Godsknife sale and a new author to check out
Today is the last day for Godsknife: Revolt’s “release week” sale. Thanks to Evolved Publishing for extending it this far. The giant praying mantis invasion of Iowa has many readers excited so far, with one saying,
“It’s as if the author took our current society, stripped off a few layers, and added in a few Chinese puzzle boxes. It is believable and very well done. The characters are interesting and well developed. I love that there’s a good amount of dialogue that flows well and builds nic...

Layers of Storytelling with Seth Skorkowsky
[image error]Today’s guest post is with Seth Skorkowsky, author of the new book, Ibenus, the third book in his Valducan seriesfrom Ragnarok Publications.
Layers of Storytelling.
One of the most difficult questions novelists face is, “What is the book about?” It’s a simple question and we ask it of other authors all the time. But the problem is that books are so very rarely a single layer that can just be answered in one or two sentences. That’s why authors cringe at writing query letters or blurbs because...

Graphic Novel Review – Mighty Jack by Ben Hatke (First Second Books)
Ben Hatke is my two year old’s favorite author, and my favorite to read to him. Every book of his we get into the house gets well worn and produces countless happy moments of in my lap reading with my son. His books are more for elementary school to middle school aged readers, but that doesnt prevent my son from loving the artwork, identifying objects and repeating sounds in a super fun experience.
Mighty Jack is another great installment in Ben’s catalog. This is close to his Zita the Spaceg...
