The answer really comes down to writing style. When I write a book, I don't outline at all. I get an idea in my head, I think about it for a bit, and then I start writing and see where the idea takes me. In the case of Stolen Songbird, the idea was the setting. I had a dream about a city buried with rubble, and the story grew out of questions I asked myself about the place. Who would live there? How would they survive? Why would they choose to stay? The trolls came into being as a result of those answers, so it was more a matter of the story needing to be about them than a conscious decision on my part to write about them. Hopefully that makes sense!(less)

Due to the series moving from Strange Chemistry to Angry Robot, they are still figuring out where to fit me into their schedule. I'm hoping to know more in the next couple months, and when I do, I'll let everyone know!(less)

That's a tough question to answer because it really depends on the reader and the content they typically consume. I'd say this is 'normal' gritty for post-apocalyptic but grittier than my previous series.
