Yegods, who can believe it's May??? At any rate, it's here, so what are you reading? I'm currently listening to C.J. Cherryh's Chanur Saga which I somehow never got around to finishing earlier. It's scifi, though.

May Day .... May Day...I can't seem to read anything.....so ....
Still on April......um ....March.....???
;)
Princeps' Fury....
Hopefully...I'll get to a promised book ...for this month.
Childhood's End...sf, too.
Readin on Kindle - Rumpled (a retelling of Rumplestiltskin), in paperback re-reading Lorna Freeman's Shadows Past.
For the month of May I will finishing the last two books in the night angel trilogy by Brent weeks and I will succumb to the peer pressures of who-name-must-not-be-spoken and finally read Harry potter. I read the first book last week. It was okay and entertaining. but the second book feels dry and lacks a full plot. and maybe one day I'll finally finish The Hobbit
I'm shocked that we're in May already, where's the hot weather?
Brenda, the Furies just kept getting better and better, you must find your reading mojo. Have a look for mine too. I've been off all week with tonsilitis and haven't read a word, slumped in front of the tv.
I'm trying to read the Gunslinger.

I'm all over the place. I tried to start Lions of Al-Rassan but got thrown off by the non-traditional setting. I'll get back into it.Since in April I read both Brian McClellan's Promise of Blood and Django Wexler's The Thousand Names, I figured I'd follow them up with their prequel novellas (novelettes maybe? Which ever is shorter). So I started both of those.
I also decided to pick up Sanderson's short works that I hadn't read yet: Infinity Blade 1, Infinity Blade 2, and Legion.
And lastly, while I was on a horrid e-book site that shall remain nameless *cough-amazon-cough* I was coerced into buying Red Rising since it was on sale. Boy. That book is NOT for the faint of heart. I just spent the last ~8 hours reading it. It's basically Hunger Games meets Ender's Game, except VERY adult with plenty of gratuitous killing.

I read Lions last month, and it was awesome :D:D
The Emperor's Blades, which I'm enjoying so far. And I'm over half way through The Republic of Thieves, which I just love. Oh how I've missed Locke and Jean :)
I just finished Ghosts in the Yew by Blake Hausladen - a very earnestly self published novel (where the author took steps to do the job right). The book is well written and edited, and beautifully made. The story was complete and coherently presented, with a careful, down to earth worldbuiding and intelligent attention to detail. The story involves a spoiled royal shoved into exile, against a backdrop of cutthroat politics - and reminded me a bit of the Empire series, forcing the protagonists (there are more than one) to compromise, innovate, and sometimes get devious to survive a larger, bloodier plot at court. For every bit that was predictably 'classic' there were some unusual twists.

I couldn't finish Furies OR The Gunslinger. Hubby finished the Gunslinger though the last book was strange - he said. Older sun LOVED Furies; I didn't
Michael Sullivan's Rise of Empire. The series is excellent and well worth a read. One of the better fantasy series I've read recently.
Trapped: The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book FiveHunted: The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book Six
Warhost of Vastmark
The Ships of Merior
These are just for the start of the month
Just finished Blood & Bullets by James Tuck. Great book. Below is my review.

Finished White Night & Deadhouse Gates. Started Small Favor yesterday and starting The Emperor's Blades tonight.
I'm reading The Long Price Quartet By Daniel Abraham I about half way through book 1 A Shadow in Summer pretty good so far.
Currently reading Looking for Alaska, yep YA. Shhhhhh.....Just read Let the right one in. Very unusual. Hoping to read some fantasy this month.
I am currently reading 1633 by David Weber and Eric Flint. Lots of fun. No surprise, the last book I read was 1632 by Eric Flint.
Finished Dragons of Winter Night (Dragonlance: Chronicles #2) and am starting yes, you guessed, it, Dragons of Spring Dawning.
I'm having trouble getting into The Red Knight so I picked up The Secret History of Fantasy. These short stories are delightful so far! Also, it's not fantasy, but I'm reading Long Life, Honey in the Heart and Martin Prechtel always delivers.

First time I've read them in probably 25-30 years and I'm pleased by how well they're holding up -- not great literature, but certainly well-crafted entertainment.
I am currently reading the short story collection, Meet Me in the Moon Room by Ray Vukcevich. So far the stories seem to be of this world, but strange(r). I believe I will enjoy this.
Daniel wrote: "I finished John Gwynne's Valor and I'm also going to read Brent Weeks' The Black Prism."I've been meaning to get around to The Black Prism. I've heard so many mixed reviews, though. I've heard the Night Angel series of his is better. I might try to pick one of those up next month.
The Stars Came Back by Rolf Nelson. Space drama with Fireflyish comedy throughout. Written in screenplay format, so far quite enjoyable. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/20...
Joe Abercrombie this month. I started with The Heroes, which I loved. Much recommended for the lovers of gritty fantasy and war novels. It's a standalone set in the same world of the First Law trilogy, which I'm currently reading with The Blade Itself, but it's set in the future and contributes to the development, so beware of storyline spoilers.
Finished Dragons of Spring Dawning and decided on something completely different as a palate cleanser: L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories.
And finished L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories (it was short and I had lots of reading time on the way to & from seeing Godzilla) and am about to start Martian Quest: The Early Brackett by Leigh Brackett.
I just finished the Night Angel series, which i found really entertaining, so I decided to jump back to reading Harry Potter. I am on Book three about 100 Pages in, I find them to be quick and easy reads, but rather unexciting. Nothing excits me about these book.
my Question for everyone is Should I Continue? Does the series get better after book 3.

funny cause I have heard the opposite... That black prism is better than night angel.....
I just finished the night angel series two days. It is a good read. But it has alot of flaws, especially alot of editing flaws. If you are a huge epic fantasy fan and don't mind grotesque and dark books then I would highly recomment, because it does have a different feel than the traditional epic fantasy book. But if you have are not a huge epic fantasy fan or somewhat new to epic fantasy then I would not recommend it.
check out my reviews of book 1 and book 3, if you like...

Finished The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack and The Lives of Tao now starting the sequels of both. The Curious Case of the Clockwork Man The Deaths of TaoNot a huge fan of steampunk but really enjoying the Burton and Swinburne series - mostly because of the two main characters and the whole idea behind this alt history.
The Tao series is scifi lite, fun premise.
Finished Leigh Brackett's Martian Quest: The Early Brackett -- damn, she was good! -- and am starting Sworn in Steel by Douglas Hulick.
I finished Storm Front, and plan on reading some more of the Dresden Files, even though it wasn't a four-star read for me.

Black Prism is good - but very long and also difficult to understand in parts.

I liked Harry Potter but felt that the first few books were the best so if you are struggling with those, not sure you'll find later ones better. They do get darker though. Half the enjoyment is the school environment

Raistlin
I am currently reading The Thirteenth House, having finished the first book a while ago and needing something to tide me over until Skin Game is released. I'm so excited, I can barely contain myself!
Hey all! New here. Right now I'm reading Dune with some friends for the first time [50 pages in and it's living up to the hype!], and I'm also reading Ice Forged. So far that one's a really generic read, but it's not a terrible one, so I'll see where it goes.
