Long months have passed since Siris and the God King, enemies betrayed together, were left to rot in the prison at the Vault of Tears. Their true enemy - the Worker of Secrets, creator of the Infinity Blade itself - now reigns. Upon finally obtaining freedom, Siris must unravel plots that seem to make no sense, lead a rebellion with no direction, and fight against the division with his very heart. The secrets unraveled will dig backward in time toward the origins of the Deathless and the true nature of the world itself...

From #1 bestselling author Brandon Sanderson and ChAIR entertainment, creators of the blockbuster Infinity Blade video game series, comes the second novel in the epic Infinity Blade saga. I’m Brandon Sanderson, and I write stories of the fantastic: fantasy, science fiction, and thrillers.

Defiant, the fourth and final volume of the series that started with Skyward in 2018, comes out in November 2023, capping an already book-filled year that will see the releases of all four Secret Projects: Tress of the Emerald Sea, The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England, Yumi and the Nightmare Painter, and Secret Project Four (with its official title reveal coming October 2023). These four books were all initially offered to backers of the #1 Kickstarter campaign of all time.

November 2022 saw the release of The Lost Metal, the seventh volume in the Mistborn saga, and the final volume of the Mistborn Era Two featuring Wax & Wayne. The third era of Mistborn is slated to be written after the first arc of the Stormlight Archive wraps up.

In November 2020 we saw the release of Rhythm of War—the fourth massive book in the New York Times #1 bestselling Stormlight Archive series that began with The Way of Kings—and Dawnshard (book 3.5), a novella set in the same world that bridges the gaps between the main releases. This series is my love letter to the epic fantasy genre, and it’s the type of story I always dreamed epic fantasy could be. The fifth volume, Wind and Truth, is set for release in fall 2024.

Most readers have noticed that my adult fantasy novels are in a connected universe called the Cosmere. This includes The Stormlight Archive, both Mistborn series, Elantris, Warbreaker, and various novellas available on Amazon, including The Emperor’s Soul, which won a Hugo Award in 2013. In November 2016 all of the existing Cosmere short fiction was released in one volume called Arcanum Unbounded. If you’ve read all of my adult fantasy novels and want to see some behind-the-scenes information, that collection is a must-read.

I also have three YA series: The Rithmatist (currently at one book), The Reckoners (a trilogy beginning with Steelheart), and Skyward. For young readers I also have my humorous series Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians, which had its final book, Bastille vs. the Evil Librarians, come out in 2022. Many of my adult readers enjoy all of those books as well, and many of my YA readers enjoy my adult books, usually starting with Mistborn.

Additionally, I have a few other novellas that are more on the thriller/sci-fi side. These include the Legion series, as well as Perfect State and Snapshot. There’s a lot of material to go around!

Good starting places are Mistborn (a.k.a. The Final Empire), Skyward, Steelheart,The Emperor’s Soul, and Alcatraz vs. the Evil Librarians. If you’re already a fan of big fat fantasies, you can jump right into The Way of Kings.

I was also honored to be able to complete the final three volumes of The Wheel of Time, beginning with The Gathering Storm, using Robert Jordan’s notes.

Sample chapters from all of my books are available at brandonsanderson.com—and check out the rest of my site for chapter-by-chapter annotations, deleted scenes, and more.

The first novella Infinity Blade: Awakening is set between the RP video game Infinity Blade I and Infinity Blade II and this novella is set between Infinity Blade II and Infinity Blade III. While the first novella worked well on its own without prior knowledge, now you can tell that a chunk of time and action between the novellas is missing. But that’s nothing a little googling won’t fix. I will say though that I would have enjoyed this more without that gap in the plot.

The action is presented through two separate plotlines – one deals with Siris and the God King Raidriar again, the other with Uriel, a new character who lives in our Earth’s future but in the novella’s distant past. At the beginning, we see Siris has been imprisoned with Raidriar by the Worker of Secrets and they basically take turns killing each other, only to regenerate every time. Uriel, on the other hand, is a data analyst who works for a company whose CEO, Mr. Galeth, tries to develop the technology to create Deathless like Raidriar.

Despite some big reveals at the end of the novella, I’m sad to say the ending and the whole experience feels incomplete and somewhat unsatisfying, googling notwithstanding. I would dearly like to know what happens after the events in this novella, in the game. I dislike feeling that something just isn’t finished. In light of this I just couldn’t give this four stars, as much as I wanted to.

The audiobook, however, is once more fantastic and for free on audible at the moment so, being forewarned about the issues I described, you might be able to enjoy both the production and the plot. If you’re like me and you simply read anything Sanderson writes, I’m sure you will get enough out of the experience. If you haven’t read almost everything, you might want to read something else first.

I can't believe it took me almost two years to read this book, I read the first book in 2018.

We look down on the ancient days for their brutality, but when people murdered each other then it was by the dozen. Not by the million.
Modern men were the real barbarians.

The above quote sums this book up, no matter how advanced technology that is supposed to make our lives easier ends up making our lives worse because humans always find a way to kill eachother for the lamest reasons. Its actually unsettling because it's true.

The plot picks up two years from where the first book ended. We finally get to know why the god king is the way he is and even how he became immortal. Siris' backstory is even more sadder, his purpose is to be a sacrifice, how twisted is that. I adore his friendship with Isa so much.

“You started a rebellion?” Siris asked, looking to Isa. “In my name?”
“Yeah.”
“You started a rebellion!”
“All right, yes, you don’t have to rub it in.” She grimaced.

There is a strong friendship in this, awesome battle scenes, cool dialogue, world building to die to for and the writing is good, I love it.

The writing style adapted here is slightly different from that of the previous book. There is some sort of interlude with a new character, but it all came together in the end.

Even though the events in this book sort of concluded I felt it could use a few more pages because it was open ended.

for the first time in my reading life, my favourite character changed!

better than the first part.
good plot! good characters!
except I think it had a very loose ending. I mean, what happened then!? TELL ME! I want more!
also too bloody.
& of course it was confusing again! especially, I hate that time skip, I felt a few problems (in writing/story telling) because of that. confusing.

Me queda esa espinita.

I did not like this book, the first one was sooo good.....
The action is not the way Sanderson used to write . I did not understand much and it is clear the first book from him that I have made an effort to read it .... Maybe it's just me

Let's just get my gripe out of the way. This book assumes that the reader has played the second game, otherwise you will have no idea how Siris and Raidriar ended up in the Worker's prison together with the Worker escaped. At the end of the first book, you had thought the Worker was on Siris's side. I did actually play the game, but it annoys me that the two books don't work together - there should at least be some synopsis or explanation of the second game, but there's not. This might have been a requirement by the game developers so as not to infringe on the game's story and drum up more interest. So probably not Sanderson's fault.

Now for the review of what is actually here. It is, as usual for Sanderson, quite good. Like the first novella, the ending is more of a beginning than a true ending, but that's okay as this installment provides a lot of depth to Raidriar (God King). He really shines here and is fully fleshed out. Siris and Isa are sidelined a little bit, but there are a couple interesting bits for them.

Okay, now it is time to play Infinity Blade III.

Hmmm now this is the second instalment in the Infinity Blade series which is an adaptation series by Brandon Sanderson based aroind the Infinity Blade Games. This series of books started out really well for me as I hadn't played the games before reading the books and the first one was still really interesting, however this one was a big disappointment for the majority with only the last 30% really capturing my interest and making me want to read on.

basically this starts a fair way after the first book and that means that a lot has happened (the storyline progresses in the games but if, like me, you haven't played the games there is no warning that you need to have the background knowledge and it's really very confusing!) and the world and characters are in a completely different situation from how we left off at the end of book 1. I really didn't like the jarring feeling of trying to pick up a story which felt like a chunk was missing and although I know these books are marketed as being part of the Game series, I think not allowing a pleasant continuous plotline really alienates this book from the first and sets a bad tone.

We once again have the two main character from book 1, the God King Radriar and the main character from book 1 (who takes a bit more of a backseat role in this book) Siris. The two of them find themselves trapped and they start off the book in a continuous killing cycle which is interesting once you realise it's way out of context and you study a little bit about what;s happened in between, but it's really not that engrossing or exciting.

I would say that Radriar's character is rather irritating up until the very end of the book where he grows a lot as a personality whilst Siris just seemed to lack substance and be very focused on fighting his 'Dark self' rather than actually progressing the storyline much. Overall this was a very disappointing follow on and I wouldn't recommend it even though the end does pick up. I think it could have been made much more approachable for all (players of the games or not) but instead it suffered from a lack of consideration and therefore a confused beginning, slow middle and decent end, which adds up to a jumble of 'meh' in my opinion. If any more books in this series are released I expect they too will require having played the game to understand them and so I doubt i'll be buying them. Ah well, every author has to make a few worse books I suppose, but that's just my opinion of course! :)

And another mind bending conclusion from Sanderson. My only sorrow is that this wasn’t a fully blown series for me to take my time with to connect and expand upon these stories. I can definitely say I’m not a big fan of short novels on their own. They need to be additions to full stories for me to love. But I’m still glad to have read this one.

You can still piece together what happened in the story, even without playing the video game, which is good.

Great twist at the end, I was thinking what relevance the Deviations had and the reveal was a surprise.

Confusión. Frustración. Enojo. Gusto. Ternura. Simpatía. Sorpresa. Enojo de nuevo.

REALMENTE ESTE LIBRO ME HIZO QUERER ARRANCARME LOS PELOS Y EN TODOS LOS ASPECTOS POSIBLES, BUENOS Y MALOS.

description

Dios, estoy speechless.

description

Like really.

Incredible again...

The first book was surprisingly good for me and this was no different, only this time I wasn't surprised.

The story is set in a world where an Immortal "God King" rules. He has a pantheon of lesser immortal rulers as well. God King's subjects show a small rebellion by raising and training a sacrifice each generation, who fights The God King to the death. Things changed when this time the sacrifice named Siris succeeded.

These stories were developed for the game. The first book was kind of an interlude between the first and second game. It ended with a shocking twist and suggested that Siris is going on a quest to find the worker of secrets. This book starts with Siris and God King in a prison after the worker betrayed them both (that should be the story-line of the second game).

The story again has a Saderson feel to it. The deviations (a parallel story in the book ) were totally different from the main story and doesn't make any sense at first. But by the time that story ended, everything fitted in with the main story. The final revelation was not that surprising this time but was quite interesting nonetheless. Siris was in the center of the first book but this time he shared the center-stage with the god king.

That final twist give us the hope that the third and final game's storyline will do the justice to the entire series. I wish the games were still available. I would have loved to be Siris and FINISH IT ALL myself. Nonetheless a good combo of two action-packed short stories. Combined rating of 8 out of 10. Highly Recommended.

I was honestly extremely lost in the beginning of the second book in the Infinity Blade series. I'm wondering if I might've missed something somewhere along the way.

The world building was amazing and the conclusion was BrandoSando style! Glad I read these but this was easily my least favorite book by the author.

Brilliant! Just brilliant!
I figured since I hadn't played any of the video games that I'd be really lost, but I wasn't. It was fairly simple to figure out what went on in the gap that was left out in between books one and two.
What a great story and ending! Can't wait for the 3rd. Maybe I'll even try the video games at some point.

**2.5/5 Stars** This barely scrapes the 3 stars, this is definitely the weaker piece in the two book Infinity Blade series.

The small emotional attachment I had developed for Siris and Isa in Awakening is completely thrown under the bus in Redemption... where I feel a continuation straight after the events of the previous instance would have been a-ok, Brandon decides to dump us into a random starting scene, completely skipping the part where he fills us in on what happened in between the two books... To make things worse he combines the main plot with a parallel, seemingly totally unrelated story, which led me to believe for about 90% of the way that something had gone wrong with my kindle... :p

I have not played the videogame, but I suspect the Infinity Blade Series reads a lot better when you do! I probably recommend this to those users. But unless you are a Brandon-fanboy and you want to read all his work, which I do... I wouldn't really recommend this, meh it's really just ok.
