Pick up Playing the Game for 99 cents

I’d wager this is the best deal Lyrical/Kensington is ever going to offer — readers can start the Neighborly Affection series for just 99 cents from May 13 through May 27.

That’s less than a buck for a full-length novel and hours of fun with Henry, Alice, and Jay. If you know a romance reader who hasn’t met the trio yet, now’s the time to bust out the have I got a book for you! speech. ;-)

3 times the writing life exceeded expectations

You guys. Seriously, you guys.

You know I find writing blog posts exponentially harder than writing novels, right? Because so often I’m trying to convey gratitude for unexpected blessings that floor me. (Literally floor me, like lying on my back on the living room carpet while the dog licks my face and drops toys on me as she tries to figure out this game.)

First thing:

You are amazing.

Full stop. All of you who wrote in after the last newsletter and told me how much you want more Tuesdays With J...

Celebrating Menage Month with AReCafe

The cafe branch of All Romance eBooks is celebrating Menage Month with a slew of posts from menage writers and bloggers about what inspires their stories, and today I’m lucky enough to be one of the posters. :-)

I’m sharing about the high expectations we have for romantic partners and how Henry, Alice, and Jay fit together better as a threesome than any two of them would without the third. Hop over to the cafe and join me for some Neighborly Affection talk!

A couple of housekeeping notes:

Thank yo...

Going beyond romance (and beyond the pages)

I’m visiting with Lisabet Sarai over at her Beyond Romance blog to talk about the importance of giving characters real character. The pages can only contain the crafted narrative of their lives; just like the rest of us, they have bits and pieces that don’t make the cut.

Hop over to Beyond Romance to read the post and maybe win a book or two in the Neighborly Affection series.

And for an exclusive peek at some of those bits and pieces, sign up for my monthly newsletter below. Coming Sunday will...

Color me shocked — Healing the Wounds (Neighborly Affection #3) already has preorder pages on a handful of online retailers. I can’t believe the release is only two months away!

I’ll add the other sites’ links as they catch up, but in case you’ve finished Crossing the Lines (Neighborly Affection #2) and want to make sure you get the sequel when it releases on June 2, here’s where to find it:

Inside the author’s head: Unruly characters, word addiction, and the writing process

Welcome to this journey into the world of M.Q. Barber! By reading this sentence, you have signed a binding agreement not to sue for damages caused by exploring the Lovecraftian horrors of an author’s mental landscape.*

*Just kidding. Obviously, by the time you exit, you’ll be so insane that you won’t remember why you visited in the first place.

First, let me thank Cd Brennan for tagging me in the Writing Process Blog Hop. She’s a fellow Lyrical/Kensington author with a talent for sweet romance...

Sneak peek at Neighborly Affection 3: Healing the Wounds

When a good thing happens to me, I like to pay it forward.

My publisher promised me a first look at the cover for Healing the Wounds (Neighborly Affection #3) this weekend, and I am crazy-excited with anticipation.

To celebrate, I’ll be sending out this month’s author newsletter on Sunday, March 16, with the first look at a scene from Healing the Wounds.

I haven’t posted any excerpts of this one anywhere yet, so subscribers will be the first people aside from me, my critique partner, and my edit...
