I knew something was wrong the second she walked in the door tonight; I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was. Same hair color. Same legs. Same face. Except…I look harder. At the small dimple beneath her lip that wasn’t there the last time we went out. And her laugh—that laugh isn’t as loud. This isn’t the girl I’ve gone out with the past few weeks. It’s her twin sister, and they’ve switched places on me. Only I’m not quite ready to let them switch back.

PrologueTennessee 2008It was finally fucking over.Or maybe it was just beginning.Either way, years, years of busting his ass, taking shit, and being treated like a worthless maggot were finished. The vote was unanimous. He was finally a brother.Well, he was ninety-nine-point-nine percent of the way in. They couldn’t just vote him in and chuck him the patch he’d been salivating over for the past three years. No, they had to throw in one last challenge, and a bitch of a test it was.A branding. The Hell’s Handlers Motorcycle Club emblem. On the left forearm. It was as important as the patches on the leather cut each brother wore. So important, if a man was tatted on his left forearm he couldn’t even prospect. No, the emblem had to be seared into clean skin, so anyone and everyone would know who belonged to the motorcycle club. And if being branded wasn’t bad enough, there were rules that went along with the barbaric ceremony.Every brother had to be in attendance. Heckling, ribbing, waiting to see just how much the new member wanted to be a part of the life. Waiting for them to crack. No screaming. No tears. No passing out.A grunt of pain was allowed, but beyond that, any outward show of weakness would null and void the unanimous vote to end the prospecting period and make him a fully-patched member of the Hell’s Handlers MC.He wouldn’t make a peep. They could cut his fucking arm off and beat him with it and Zach still wouldn’t utter a sound. That patch was his, and the only way he’d give it up was if some lucky motherfucker managed to pry it from his cold dead hands. Even then, he’d haunt the bastard and wear the thing as a spirit.A shrill whistle cut through the raucous laughter and drunken male partying. Usually, the sound of fucking joined with the rest of the noise, but not tonight. This was just for the men, brothers in all but blood. At least this early part of the night. After Zach got his patch, they’d bring in the club pussy and he’d have his pick of the litter. One, two, hell even three women if he wanted. He’d earned it watching brother after brother partake in the sweet privilege that was not bestowed on prospects. Club pussy was for patched members only. And now he was one.His dick twitched in his pants but died the moment his president spoke. “Okay, fuckers, listen up.”All around him, his soon to be new brothers lowered their drinks and gave their president, Copper, their full attention. At twenty-nine, Copper was young to be in the role of club president, and since he’d been at it for almost four years already, he was officially the youngest leader in the club’s near fifty-year history.“We’re just minutes away from welcoming another brother into the club. Shit, Zach’s been one of the best prospects we’ve had. Tough as fuckin’ nails, pulls more than his own weight, never runs his mouth, loyal.” A puff of steam drifted from Copper’s mouth as he spoke to the group. The prez wasn’t one to be fucked with. A good few inches over six feet, with a beard the color of a dirty penny, and plenty of hair to match, he was mean as a starving pit-bull. But Copper had the respect of every man in the club. Not just because he was the president, but because he’d earned it dragging the club from the brink of disaster and making it a thriving brotherhood once again.Zach blew on his hands, trying to infuse some warmth into the frozen digits. The night air was colder than a witch’s titty and standing around shirtless for the past half hour hadn’t helped anything.“Just one more test of this asshole’s strength before we let him be one of us. Ready boys?” Copper waved Zach over to the mountain of wood crackling and spitting sparks. Sticking out of the bonfire, a long branding iron roasted away, just waiting to scorch some of Zach’s skin.Shouts of encouragement and a few hecklers betting on how much of a pussy he was and what octave his scream would hit, reached him as he made his way to the fire and his waiting president. Careful to keep his expression neutral he drew up next to his prez and waited. Wasn’t that the whole point? Act like he wasn’t scared. Wasn’t about to shit his pants in anticipation of what would probably be the worse physical pain he’d ever experienced.Fuckin’ Copper’s beard split and his teeth gleamed in the flickering fire. Prez lived for this bull. And if he didn’t, he sure acted like he did with that shitty grin of anticipation. “Anything you want to say first?”Zach shook his head while he bounced on the balls of his feet, hitting his pecs as hard as he could. Maybe if he could get some pain going somewhere else, the burn of the iron wouldn’t be so bad.“Won’t work,” Copper said as though reading his mind. “Tried the same thing when I was in your spot. Ain’t nothing gonna make this shit any better.” He bent and retrieved a bottle from next to his foot. Zach had no idea what it was full of, moonshine probably. “You know the drill. Bottle in your left hand. Ten seconds to drink as much as you can. Hold your arm out straight. I’ll mark ya. No dropping the bottle. No spilling. No screaming. No puking. Stay on your feet for two whole minutes. Then you’re a fuckin’ brother.”Zach nodded. His chest rose and fell in a rapid rhythm as his breathing increased and the blood sped up in his veins. After blowing out a breath, he grabbed the bottle and brought it to his lips, tilting his head back and opening his throat as much as he could. Some of the nastiest hooch he’d ever tasted filled his mouth and flowed down his throat, burning a path to his stomach. Ironic really, since he was about to be burned all to a crisp anyway. Somewhere, in the distance, he could hear his soon to be brothers cheering like a bunch of wild baboons, but he managed to drown out most of the noise. All but the sound of Copper counting down from ten.“Three…two…one…arm!”Zach tore the bottle from his lips and extended his arm. Unable to look away, he stared in fascinated horror as the glowing end of the iron made contact with the thin skin of his forearm. There was a fraction of a second where his eyes registered the flesh-to-iron connection, but the pain hadn’t yet reached his brain. And then it did.All-consuming, searing pain like he’d never experienced fired through his nerve endings. Though the spot being branded was no bigger than a silver dollar, agony seemed to encompass his entire body until he couldn’t recognize where it originated from. There was also an audible singe accompanied by the stench of melting flesh.Blinding pain was a phrase he’d heard before, but now he’d lived it. Darkness clouded his vision and he slammed his knees back, determined not to give into the blissful oblivion that hovered just out of reach. All around him, men screamed and hollered, but he couldn’t make out their cries over the rushing in his ears. Nostrils flaring with each forceful inhalation and exhalation, he mashed his teeth together probably pulverizing the enamel as he fought to remain conscious. Then the nausea hit. Instead of helping to lessen the pain, the damn moonshine sloshed in his gut and started a trip back up his esophagus, just as disgusting the second time around. His eyes locked with Copper’s. The grinning bastard was definitely enjoying it. All the more motivation to remain standing, quiet, and avoid vomiting the moonshine all over.Copper pulled the iron away and tossed it to the ground, but it did nothing to diminish the agony. After what seemed like an eternity, he pulled his gaze away and checked his watch. Seconds ticked by slower than the thickest motor oil dripping from an engine. Finally, Copper looked at him again and this time his smile was genuine, welcoming. “Two minutes, brother.”Brother. Sweeter fucking words had never been spoken.Copper grabbed him by the elbow and held up his throbbing arm. The pain was still there, but now the rush of excitement at achieving his three-year long goal overrode the worst of it. That and the moonshine was kicking in.With a loud whoop of triumph, Copper held up Zach’s branded arm. “Say hello to your newest brother, men.” Cheers rose up all around.Zach swayed on his feet as pain and nausea still warred for victory over his consciousness.Copper whistled, reigning in the crazy. “He’s now to be shown the respect any other brother receives. He’s going to make a damn fine addition to the club.”Zach’s chest constricted as pride surged.“Proud of you, brother,” Copper said, for Zach’s ears only. “You were one hell of a prospect and you’ll be one hell of an addition to the club.”“Thanks, Prez.”Raising his voice again, Copper turned to the rowdy crowd. “Now someone get Zach a beer and some pussy. The man’s waited long enough.”They wouldn’t be giving him any pain medication for the burn but losing his dick in a club girl should take care of the last of the discomfort.Brothers converged on him from all angles, slapping his back and welcoming him. Not only would the moment be burned into his skin forever, but it was seared into his brain as well.Best night of his life.He was in.Now it was time to set his sights on an executive position.Enforcer would do quite nicely.

I've rewritten this review 4 times now. The first was scathing, the second was harsh, third was horrible and this time I'm hoping for less than those three. I liked the other books in the series, so that's why I'm being so critical with this book. I expected a lot from this author and by reading other reviews I can see that I'm in the minority. I'm usually not one to read reviews, but I needed to see if something was wrong with me or if there was something wrong with the book. Obviously, somethings wrong with me since everyone is raving about how Jesse is such an awesome character and how they loved whats her name...and there's the rub - I read an entire book about a heroine and I don't remember her blessed name. I wasn't rooting for her, nor was I rooting for them. I was just like okay whatever. I understood the addict storyline, I work with substance abusers and maybe that's why I didn't like this book...because I don't want to read about what I work with. There's no doubt this author can write and has a way with the written word. Lyrics on the page just rolled off and they were classically and beautifully written. That being said:I would also say if you don't want to read a super depressing book that will have you also looking for some pills that will make you happy...I'd suggest not reading this book - because it doesn't get better. So why 3 stars? Probably why I've scrapped writing this review 3 times and am on my fourth...this might turn into a 4-star review! The author seriously does a good job writing the life of an addict, she writes the life of a musician well, but what she didn't write well or what I thought she didn't write well was the formula for relationships. What woman in her right mind is going to meet a guy for the first time in a bar and she wrote a scathing article about him, ruined his career and she's going to stick her hand down his pants and ask him to take her home with him??? An insane one in my office setting - usually they're off their meds at that point. That's when I didn't even bother to remember Mila's (had to look it up) name. I like realistic, plausible and sensible storylines. Minus one star. **************SPOILER***************This is probably the first book where if I had just stumbled onto this authors work I would literally have zero interest in ever reading anything else by her again. I'll tell you why - if you think this book is going to have a happy ending...think again. It doesn't. As a matter of fact, it's like the author said "Hey, you know what would be great? Let's have everyone think it's gonna end good, throw in this plot twist that's not a plot twist, take up 8 percent of the book...and kill off a character everyone likes - ya think?" It doesn't work that way, but others will love it (because people love crying and being depressed) and that's only my opinion and you know what they say about opinions!? So, to sum up...if you want to cast yourself off a bridge after you're done reading a book, then this is the book for you. Minus another star. That's all I'm saying on that.

Hero, an all-new sexy and emotional standalone romance by Lauren Rowe is Available NOW!
A standalone contemporary romance in the MORGAN BROTHERS SERIES from USA Today Bestselling Author Lauren Rowe. The story of firefighter Colby Morgan that proves heroes come in many forms . . The first time I laid eyes on Lydia Decker, I couldn’t speak. Or breathe. Or string two coherent thoughts together. And I don’t mean any of that figuratively.I’m not talking about a guy being floored by the sight of a gorgeous woman—although, of course, Lydia is gorgeous beyond words. No, when I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker—my physical therapist—I was lying flat on my back in the ICU, high as a kite on painkillers, breathing on a ventilator, my bones as broken and splintered as my spirit. When I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker, she was a ray of light in the dark. Hope for the hopeless. A salve for my singed and battered soul. She said she’d been assigned to fix me. That she was there to bring me back to life. She said helping me was her calling. And then she touched me. Physically, emotionally, spiritually. She healed me.And I fell in love. But what I didn’t know . . . what I couldn’t possibly know . . . was that Lydia Decker needed fixing far more than I ever did.
I never request books based on covers because looks can be deceiving, however, this book was everything it was supposed to be. I read the synopsis and thought it sounded interesting - could the author pull it off? She did! I was rooting for her to do that, but the one thing that always strikes me in books is language and this did have some in it...so if you're under 18 - this may not be the book for you.

This sounds out a series that's had me on the edge of my seat and left a lot of unanswered questions at the end of each book...Like will they ever get the Russian that's making their life a miserable hell and who knows their every step before they do? This book had a little bit of a different tone to it than the rest of them, maybe because I knew it was the end of the Satan's Knights as we know them and the series is coming to a close. I wanted to soak up all the characters that we have come to think of as family - Jack, Wolf, Stryker, Cobra, Linc, Deuce, Blackie and the list goes on, but I didn't think I'd feel like there was a death in the family at the close of the book. It was very much like the end of an era, the curtain call, the lights went down for the very last time and for that there was some sadness.
Linc's story started out with tragedy. You knew where he ended up and then you went back and forth between the past and the present...to a tale that was woven, told to keep your attention, all with tears in your eyes. Linc's background was a mystery, his father someone that you find is the epitome of the devil, making him truly the Propery of Parrish.
This wasn't pretty, it wasn't really much of anything until Kelly showed up. She was what made Linc who he was, made him breathe again. As with all of this authors books - she has strong heroines to go along with her men and this was no different. Linc didn't see in color until he met her.
The ending was pure poetry with Jack. Jack who I love and felt the most for because he has the weight of the entire MC on his shoulders. Came out with guns blazing, crazy showing full force. This is the end of the Satan's Knights, but if you haven't read the series - you need to start at the very beginning to immerse yourself in the culture. I dare you!!

Winnie thinks she has the perfect life. Two beautiful, healthy children. A police officer husband. A job that she loves. Oh, and let’s not forget that she’s a nationally ranked marathon runner. Fast forward six months, and her perfect life has imploded. Winnie finds herself in a completely new world, and this new world is a brutal bitch. In this new life of hers, her husband is gone. He realizes, at the worst possible time, that he’s no longer in love with her. He’s in love with her best friend. So he leaves, and doesn’t look back. Her sixteen-year-old daughter is in trouble with the law, and she’s barely making ends meet thanks to losing the job that was keeping her and her tiny family afloat. Then, the last thing that could make it all bearable, her running, is ripped out from under her, too. Thanks to a spinal stroke that leaves her unable to walk, let alone run, she’s having to relearn how to do the simplest of tasks—such as putting on her own pants. She’s at the lowest of lows, and the last thing she wants is a sexy, bearded, motorcycle riding alpha to tell her how to live her life. But Steel Cross never asks her what she wants. *** The moment Steel Cross sees Winnie’s daughter steal some shoes for her younger brother, he knows he’s in trouble. He’s a sucker for misunderstood teens. After all, he was once one himself. He knows he can’t just walk away, and the moment he sees that troubled teen’s mother, he doesn’t just know it, he feels it. Down to the very bottom of his soul. With his share of hard knocks, he knows that he shouldn’t step in and make his move on a fellow police officer’s ex. There’s a code, after all, yet he just can’t seem to help himself. He’s done being the good guy. Sometimes he just wants to be bad. And Winnie makes him realize that being bad is still kind of good. As long as you’re with the right person.
We've all been waiting for Big Papas story for what seems like ages...and it was so awesome! I loved him sooo much. I mean, I knew going into this book that I was going to LOVE everything about Steel Cross and I most certainly did. Winnie was a one of a kind heroine that just sticks with you. Her and her kids...having children in books are just better to me and give a better depth as far as character development and pacing goes. The suspense was LLV at her best and although there were a few things I found inaccurate, it never took me out of the story or threw me off. Overall, I thought this was a stellar part of the series.
I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 8, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.
