Jessie Tendayi is an Example of an Angel on Earth #AtoZChallenge

Christmas 2016 and Santa Claus found he had some major competition at the Advocate Trinity Hospital in Illinois from a wonderful human being who went by the name of Jessie Tendayi.

The 54 year old woman, who has been working in the cafeteria of the hospital for 18 years, saved money from her salary over the course of the entire year to do something special for the children during Christmas. Cutting costs for herself, the Advocate Trinity Hospital food service aide saved more than $5000 ( >...

Ivan Fernandez Anaya is a Shining Example of Sportsmanship #AtoZChallenge

What would you do if you had a chance to beat an athlete who had won an Olympic medal because of a mistake the latter made? Well, I know I am not as good a human being as Spanish runner Ivan Fernandez Anaya. Which is why, he is probably featured here instead of me!

So anyway, here is Ivan in second place at a cross-country race in Navarre, a fair distance behind the leader, Kenyan runner Abel Mutai (a bronze medalist from the 2012 London Olympics held a few months earlier).

Now, Mutai makes the...

Harman Singh - The Hero Who Chose Humanity over Religious Beliefs #AtoZChallenge

When 22 year old Harman Singh reached the site of the road accident in Auckland, he found a five year old young boy with a severe head injury bleeding on the road. Though his religious beliefs demanded he (and all devout Sikhs) cover his head at all times in public, Harman didn't think twice, removing his own and using it to help stop the bleeding till help arrived.

The viral image of Harman Singh using his turban to help a child bleeding on the road

His choice of humanity over religious beliefs helped save Daejon's life.

"I just really want to thank him because I know it's agai...

Greg Peppin is a Shining Example of Humanity #AtoZChallenge

In 1996, young Awaz Barwari was on Saddam Hussein's hit list for 'the crime of being Kurdish', an ethnic group targeted for genocide. The U.S. offered to help her out of the country. But when she reached the border, there was an unforeseen complication. Her baby - 36 days old - was not on the list and would not be allowed to leave Iraq. She could leave her baby in Iraq or else stay back and face certain death.

Awaz Barwari seemed destined for death, unwilling to give up her newborn until a str...

Franz Stigler Is A Shining Example of Humanity #AtoZChallenge

1943, Germany.
Franz Stigler wanted revenge. The World War 2 German ace pilot had lost his older brother to war. He was a kill away from the Knight's Cross, German's highest award for valor. Below his fighter plane, the damaged American bomber sputtered in the sky, an easy target. His hands were on the trigger as he gazed down at his enemy.

The gunner in the plane was dead. Men huddled within were tending to their wounded crewmen. The plane was defenseless and its barely-out-his-teens pilot sat...

Elizabeth Laird is a Shining Example of Compassion #AtoZChallenge

Elizabeth Laird knew the value of a good hug.
The 83 year old Air Force veteran would stand at the airport in Fort Hood and give every soldier - deploying or returning - a warm hug, a wonderful smile and kind words. It was her way of not just saying thank you but also of letting them know that people remembered them. Over the period of 12 years, starting from 2003, she gave around 500,000 hugs to soldiers. She was always there to greet them at the airport.

And then, one day in 2015, she wasn't....

Maggie Doyne is a Shining Example of Selfless Devotion #AtoZChallenge

After completing high school, Maggie Doyne took a year off before joining college to backpack around the world. Her trip led her to north India and eventually Nepal where she came across a six year old girl surviving on a few rupees a day, earned by breaking and selling stones.

Maggie phoned her parents, asking them to send her all the money she had earned while babysitting - $5000. She spent it helping the young girl and others like her go to school, paying for their fees, uniforms and books....

Chris Dempsey is a Shining Example of Selflessness #AtoZChallenge

In 2014, doctors told 25 year old Heather Krueger that she had only a few months to live. Diagnosed with stage 4 liver disease, her only hope was a matching donor liver which could take months or even years to find, time she did not have. So many people tested themselves and came back negative as a match. Heather needed a miracle.

That miracle was an ex-marine who, having heard of her plight, got himself tested and then offered his own liver to her even though he had never met her. As if givin...

'Bikers Against Child Abuse' are a Shining Example of Guardian Angels #AtoZChallenge

Picture this - a young child sitting frightened in a courtroom staring at the man who sexually abused her. Now imagine her looking to her right, where, seated in the audience, are thirty huge, tattooed bikers supporting her, letting her know she does not have to be afraid of him anymore.

Child abuse does not end with the dastardly deed. Fear, withdrawal from society and psychological scars plague the child often sending them spiraling down a pathway to destruction before they ever reach adulth...

Alex Ruiz is a Shining Example of Humanity #AtoZChallenge

The phrase 'Southern hospitality' is commonly used in America while describing the residents of the Southern region of the country. It refers to their generosity and big hearts towards visitors, foregoing their own worries to ensure their guests were happy. It may seem like an outdated stereotype to many, considering the harsh world we live in but thankfully, the heart willing to be kind to those in need still beats strongly even today within young individuals of the area.

When young Alex Rui...
