Tabrizi's - Humanity over Profit #AtOZChallenge
The 2015 Baltimore riots lasted for nearly a month with hundreds of businesses damaged and a state of emergency being declared for weeks. As the city limped back to normalcy, restaurant owners decided to host Baltimore's Restaurant Week to woo customers back and make up for their losses.
Micheal Tabrizi had a different idea. The owner of Tabrizi's - a fancy fine dining restaurant that has won awards for 6 consecutive years for their hosting of weddings - decided he wanted to cater to the...

Sarah Hoidahl is a Real Hero of Kindness #AtoZChallenge
When young Sarah Hoidahl, a waitress at Ruby Tuesday's in Concord, New Hampshire came over to the two diners at her table, they asked her if she could give them something inexpensive. Talking to them, Sarah realized they were furloughed soldiers of the National Guard who were out of work due to the government shutdown.
The single mom, struggling to make ends meet herself, decided to do one better. When it came time to give them the bill, Sarah handed them a note instead. It read:
'Thanks to the...

Rajesh Sharma - a Truly Selfless Indian Hero
For more than seven years, Rajesh Sharma has been taking classes for children in New Delhi. He teaches English, Hindi, science, maths, history and geography.
Oh yes, I forgot. He is actually a grocery shopkeeper. And there is no actual school here. You see, Rajesh Sharma holds free classes for hundreds of slum children under the elevated tracks of the Yamuna Bank Metro station.
In 2007, when the bridge was under construction, the 45 year old saw the children of labourers playing in the mud and...

Quietly, Become a Hero of Kindness and Compassion #AtoZChallenge
Throughout this challenge, I have brought you stories of kindness and compassion from across the world. Everyone asks me how I came across so many diverse stories, especially in a world we feel is so barren of kindness today.
The answer to that question is simple - I searched for kindness across the world. I stopped participating in the online wars of right vs wrong and I searched for humanity.
The heroes I found are not as famous as your political and religious icons. They are everyday people....

Paper For Water - Children Can Show the Way #AtoZChallenge
Isabelle and Katherine Adams were 9 and 7 years old when they found out the harsh realities of the world.
The sisters were shocked to find out there were so many countries where children, adults and even entire villages did not have access to something as basic as clean water; that a child dies every 20 seconds because of unclean water. They wanted to do something for those less fortunate than themselves. But honestly, what could two children so small do to change the bad bad ways of this worl...

Jodi Schmidt: A Truly Selfless Organ Donor #AtoZChallenge
When Natasha Fuller's grandmother Chris Burelton got the call to come to the school urgently, she feared the worst. Suffering from the rare prune belly syndrome since birth, Natasha had required dialysis for her failing kidneys for most of her 8 young years. The reason she lived in Oakfield with her grandparents and away from her parents and siblings was in fact because she needed the specialized hospital care available there.
At eight years of age, Natasha was in the last stages of kidney fai...

Nurse Renee Hendrix... and all the Nurses around you #AtoZChallenge
Nurse Renee Hendrix had worked in the dreaded neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at WellStar Kennestone Hospital since 1982. So she was happy to be called in by Kleenex to star in an ad celebrating neonatal nurses day.
Having completed the interview, Renee returned back to her routine only to be called back in the evening because of a technical glitch during the interview, requiring she do it all over again. Patience being a virtue of her job, she dutifully returned to the building. But this...

Make-A-Wish Foundation : The Batkid story #AtoZChallenge
The city was in trouble and there was only one superhero who could save it.
His name was Miles Scott. He was 5 years old and had been on treatment for leukemia since the age of eighteen months. But he had one secret... he was Batkid.
For a single day, San Francisco became the Gotham of comic books as thousands of people took a break from their jobs and came on to the streets to (paraphrasing from 'The Dark Knight') 'be the city the hero needed'.
As the day progressed, accompanied by Batman, Batk...

Anja Ringgren Loven is a true Angel of God #AtoZChallenge
The two year old Nigerian boy was walking around riddled with worms and eating scraps on the road. He was tortured and abandoned for a 'very valid' reason by his parents -he was a witch.
When Anja Ringgren Loven heard about the boy, she drove down to find him. The boy was disoriented and in need of urgent medical attention. As incredulous and disapproving eyes watched, she bent down and fed him water, wrapped him in a blanket and took the toddler to a hospital. The child needed daily blood tra...
