The 6 year old who traded her birthday party to feed 125 homeless people #WATWB

When Armani Crews turned 6 this March 5th, she made the news for NOT throwing a birthday party for her friends.

Armani had been pestering her parents for the last few months, insisting she wanted to feed the homeless in her community on her special day. Even when her father informed her that it would mean she would not get a birthday gift, the kindergartner was okay with it.

Armani Crew celebrated her sixth birthday by feeding more than a hundred homeless people in her community

Her parents finally relented, buying a wide array of food (from chicken and fish to corn, mashed potatoes, rolls, cakes,...

Real Life Heroes of Kindness and Compassion - The List #AtoZChallenge

In 2017, for the #AtoZChallenge, I decided to showcase 26 everyday people who made in difference in people's lives with their acts of kindness, compassion and humanity.

This challenge is my way of reassuring you, the reader, that there are still good men, women and even children left on Earth. This challenge is also my way of thanking them, these people whom I have never met, for doing the right thing when saying 'it is not my problem' would have been so much easier.

Here are the heroes along w...

My 2017 #AtoZChallenge Theme: Real Life Heroes

You've read about them but don't know their names. That is okay.
In newspapers filled with thousands of lines devoted to the bad, the sad and the maddening, barely 2-3 lines are devoted to these people and their deeds, often crammed in a small rectangular column within the middle pages. I am referring to the stories from around the world featuring everyday citizens who, in tough moments, stand up and perform acts of kindness &  compassion that restore your faith in humanity. You read...

6 Chart busters of my Top 3 musicians (growing up) #FridayReflections

For this week's Friday Reflections, the dynamic duo of Everyday Gyaan & Sanch offered an option to talk about the top 3 bands or singers we love.
As with most other choices in my life, it is hard to narrow it down to three. But then, I decided to just seek out the top 3 I enjoy listening to presently and lo! and behold. It is 3 singers who were extremely popular in the late 80s and 90s as I grew up.

Do their songs stand the test of time? Hell, ya they do!
This post will get way too...

The Wedding Spell by Reena Alex

As part of Women's Day Month, I wanted to feature women in real life who choose the hard road and chase their dreams. In between celebrity fanfare and political worship, we tend to forget the normal folk who go the extra mile.

One of those women for me is Reena Alex, founder of The Wedding Spell based in Bangalore.
Reena had a pretty successful decade-long career in the airline and travel industry when she chose to step out of the rat race in 2014 to chase her passion. And that passion was to m...

We Are The World Blogfest #WATWB

Let me be honest. The last few months have been demoralizing on social media. The amount of anger and negativity, the active need to hurt, discriminate and vilify one another has been shocking. In fighting against the hate, I find I too have become the monster I abhor. And it scares me.

Social media and news in recent times has been filled with hate and negativity. Just as you cannot fight darkness, only light lamps, Hate and Negativity cannot be fought.

You need to bring Love and Positivity fo...

To Hold On To or Let Go Of (Your Beliefs For the Greater Good)

Earlier this month, I attended a conference in Nagpur aimed to improve the skills of anaesthesiologists who may not have access to the latest gadgets and gizmos in their hospitals.

For the layperson, the device featured helps us identify nerves without cutting you open using a special needle-based device. A key part of this procedure is the needle location - it must be extremely close to the nerve as the drug is given. If it gets displaced by even a couple of millimeters, the procedure will fa...

To Hold On To or Let Go Of (Your Beliefs For the Greater Good) - An Anaesthesia Anecdote

Earlier this month, I attended a conference in Nagpur aimed to improve the skills of anaesthesiologists who may not have access to the latest gadgets and gizmos in their hospitals.

For the layperson, the device featured helps us identify nerves without cutting you open. Bringing a needle close enough to this nerve allows us to deposit a drug around it, resulting in all the muscles supplied by the nerve (now bathed in this drug) turning temporarily numb to pain, allowing for surgeries to be don...

What's your Nokia memory?

The king has returned.
NOKIA 3310 was relaunched last night at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and across the world, a billion collective sighs of nostalgia could be heard.

Nokia-3310-nostalgia

People less than 20 years old would be scratching their heads wondering what the big deal was after reading the specifications of the mobile. I mean, a 2 megapixel camera, outdated OS and small screen! What exactly are we old folks going gaga about?

Kids, we totally understand your raised eyebrows. But you see, to us,...

Homeopathy - The 'science-defying strawberry milkshake' analogy

A lot of people are confused about the science behind homeopathy. Allow me to simplify it for you.

This is a glass of strawberry milkshake.

strawberry milkshake homeopathy
A glass of strawberry milkshake is sweet. Remember that fact. It will be relevant later.

Now I'm going to pour it all out and fill the glass with water, shake it nicely and then pour the water out. And then I am going to fill it again with water. Shake it. Pour it out. Fill it again with water. Shake it. Pour it out. I will do this a few hundred times.

Now I...
