We were first introduced to Jenna and Eric and both Choices and Fate - as best friends to Quincy, Declan, and Brody, they both end up in the crossfire when their friends end up in a love triangle.
Patience all started with a bet…
Declan leaned back in his chair, linking his fingers over his chest. "You know what I think? You don't know how to romance a girl without having sex with her." His gaze challenged me, even as his eyes crinkled in amusement.

I've never been one to turn down a challenge. I'm competitive, and it goes against my grain. So, I opened my big mouth. "Wanna bet?" Two words. One colossal fuck-up.

His smile was so big it almost blinded me. That's when I knew he had me. Bastard. He had planned it all along. "Absolutely. I bet you can't go ninety days without sex."

"Thirty," I countered.

"Sixty."

"Ok. Sixty. So what do you want to wager?" I had walked right into his trap, and I somehow knew I would regret it the minute the words left my mouth.

"If you win, I'll owe you five hundred bucks. If I win..." He raised his eyebrows as if he was pondering the fate of the world. "I get your guitar." Oh, hell no.

"Dec, man, you know I can't do that. I can't put my guitar on the line. What else?" There's no way I'd give up my custom Fender Strat. Not for a bet, not for a girl.

"No. It has to be the guitar." He shook his head slightly, determination in his eyes and the set of his shoulders. "It has to be something you value, something it would hurt to lose, like a hit to the nuts. That's the only way I'll be able to trust you." Looking back on it, that is when I should have backed down. It was the stupidest bet I'd ever made, much worse than betting I could get in some girls pants. Of which, I have outgrown by the way.

"Deal," I agreed, against my own instincts, my better judgment having flown out the window.

"Deal?" His eyes widened with surprise since he'd been expecting a battle. In my mind, this was going to be the easiest sixty days of my life. Jenna was just a girl I met in my Lit class, and like others, she would come and go. I really thought it wasn't going to be a big deal.

I was wrong.
What I enjoyed most about this book is that we got the chance to see what it was like for Jenna and Eric to be ragged into the dramatic love triangle between Quincy, Declan and Brody, and how they managed to keep their relationship separate. However, Eric makes life harder for himself when he makes a bet with Declan that he will be able to refrain from having sex with Jenna for sixty days. Patience is what happens over these sixty days and what Jenna and Eric put each other through until the moment they can no longer resist each other.
This was another beautifully written book by Sydney Lane and I enjoyed the lighter, fun side of Jenna and Eric's story, while it still conveyed more important lessons.

Excerpt Jenna (Shopping with Quincy)Victoria's Secret. Every girl's friend and every guy's dream. I'm on a mission to find something to drive Eric wild. Panties, bras, lingerie, thongs... how's a girl to choose? I don't have a lot to spend, so I've got to make it count."How about this one?" Quincy pops around the rack I'm staring at, holding up a sheer black negligee complete with a barely-there thong."Quince, I want to make him suffer, not give him a heart attack." I smile as I imagine the look on Eric's face if he saw me in that. It's almost worth buying it. "That's why we're here instead of Frederick's."Shrugging her shoulders, my best friend looks perplexed as she continues to hold up the pitiful scrap of material. "Sheesh. I'm just trying to figure out what guys like about this stuff." She rotates it on the hanger. "I mean, why pay so much when they'll just rip it off anyway?"I almost swallow my tongue as I start coughing. "Rip it off? What kind of movies have you been watching, Quince?"When her face grows red and she looks anywhere but me, my amusement turns to shock. She tries to hide behind the rack, but I'm not having it. "Oh, hell no, girlfriend." MeetTheAuthor Sydney Author Pic GOODREADS / FACEBOOK

Fans of K.A. Tucker's Ten Tiny Breaths, we have a SUPER exciting announcement:

On September 1, 2014, Atria is releasing a PREQUEL NOVELLA to Ten Tiny Breaths that tells the story from Trent's point of view! It's called IN HER WAKE, and we cannot wait one more breath to read it!

In Her Wake

About IN HER WAKE:

Cole Reynolds had it all. And then one night he makes a bad choice... and loses everything.

When a drunken night out at a Michigan State college party results in the death of six people, Cole must come to terms with his part in the tragedy. Normally, he'd be able to lean on his best friends. The best friends that have been in his life since he could barely walk. Only, they're gone. Worse, there's the shattered body of a sixteen-year-old girl lying somewhere in a hospital bed, her entire life ripped from her because of a case of beer and a set of keys.

Everyone assures him that they know it wasn't intentional and yet he can't ignore the weight of their gazes, the whispers behind his back. The all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won't so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip of what once was important-college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. It's not until Cole hits rock-bottom that he can begin to see another way out of his personal hell: forgiveness.

And there's only one person who can give that to him...

Are you as excited about this as we are??

And...this is going to be available at the great price of $.99!!

About FOUR SECONDS TO LOSE:

Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine year old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.

Twenty-two-year old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting anddancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her doesn’t need to complicate her life with romance.

Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

I have to admit I have never read one of Cambria Hebert’s books. I know...shame on me...my bad... but I think you will forgive me because after reading Tattoo, I am a fan for LIFE! I really, completely enjoyed this book and found myself unable to put it down.  I also absolutely adored the characters :)
Tattoo is the story of Taylor and Brody, two strong, beautiful people who are thrown together in the absolute worst of circumstances. Taylor works at a bank which is held up by a team of robbers. She attempts to thwart the process and is taken captive by the bad guys when things go awry. Brody is an undercover police officer who happens to be in the bank when the robbery goes down. He is recognized as a supposed fellow gang member of the robbers when they see the symbolic tattoo on his back. In order to save Taylor’s life and maintain his undercover status, Brody also gets taken by the robbers when they head back to their hideout.
Brody...where do I start with Brody? I am crazy, want to wrap him up, put him in my pocket and keep him forever in love with Brody! He is the perfect book boyfriend. Brody is strong, gorgeous, sexy as all get out, protective, assertive, heroic, gallant and doesn’t let anyone hurt his woman.
“I’d take ten bullets if it meant you didn’t have to take any.”
Seriously, could he be any more perfect?? And yes, I just said that in a total Chandler Bing way...couldn’t help myself ;)

This poor man is so immersed in his job and has had to do so many bad things that he doesn’t feel he is worthy of anyone’s love. He finds himself completely drawn to Taylor and although he fights it...hard...their connection is inevitable.
“I hadn’t realized how important her opinion of me had become in such a short amount of time. I realized I wanted to be worthy of her. I wanted her to see past the man I was paid to be, to somehow look inside me and see the man I’d forgotten.”
Oh bless his poor, broken heart. He deserves a woman to love him and that perfect woman is Taylor. She is strong and passionate and sees past the tough guy role that brody constantly has to play.

“You’re a lot like an uncut diamond. An uncut diamond has a rough exterior and maybe even a couple flaws, but underneath are brilliant qualities.”
This book has not only emotion and steam...a whole lot of panty melting, get me a fan STEAM!! But it also has a ton of action that will have you on the edge of your seat! Reading it was like watching an action packed movie.  At times you may think….

but it is a great read! I literally could not put it down and read it from cover to cover. I definitely recommend this book and promise you will enjoy it. It is a big 4 star read for me!!

 ~ Michelle ~
Excerpt The inside of the bank greeted me with a blast of cold air and was just as brightly lit as the sidewalk outside. The walls in here were white and so were the glossy tile floors. I stepped through the roped off line, lining up behind several others already waiting. Four tellers stood behind the long wooden counter, each with their own computer. It seemed like I stood in line forever and I grew irritated because I just wanted to get the hell out of here and onto the open road. Finally it was my turn and I moved down the counter toward the last window on the end. I yanked my wallet and bank card, then looked up.Suddenly the amount of time I waited didn’t seem like such an inconvenience. In fact, if I had known she was the person waiting for me at the end of this counter I would have waited longer. Her light scarlet hair was long and filled with loose curls that fell over her shoulder and down her chest. Her complexion was flawless with the flush of fresh peaches and her lower lip was fuller than the top, making it appear as though she had a permanent pink pout.“How can I help you today?” she asked, politely, glancing up with crystal green eyes. I watched them widen slightly and rich satisfaction flowed through me. I wasn’t pretty like her but I wasn’t completely lacking in the looks department.“Hey,” I said, leaning on the counter with both my elbows. The movement brought me a little closer to her. “I need to make a withdrawal.”She glanced down at the bank card and ID I extended between us and then back at me. I gave her a lazy smile and she cleared her throat, taking the cards. She looked them over and then her polished fingernails flew over the keyboard.I glanced at her chest, being distracted by her nice rack but my eyes finally finding the nameplate pinned to the front of her top. Taylor.“How much would you like to withdrawal?” she asked.“Four hundred.”She inputed the amount without saying anything.“So,” I said, leaning toward her again. “You come here often?”She rolled her eyes, but a small smile played on her lips. “Just the days I feel like earning a paycheck.”I grinned. “Paychecks are overrated.” I drawled. “I’m going fishing.”“Says the man with a huge bank account,” she quipped. Then she winced and looked up. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t-”I laughed. The chagrin on her face and the way her cheeks bloomed with bright pink spots was entirely amusing. “Never said I didn’t work, just said I thought it was over rated.”She relaxed when she realized I didn’t give a rats ass that she knew how much was in my account. “You should bait your hook with hot dogs. Fish love them.”She was right, surprise rippled through me. “You can’t tell me a girl like you likes to fish.”“And what,” she asked, arching a red brow in my direction, “is a girl like me?” she hit a couple keys and the little dispenser to my right started flinging out cash.“You’re withdrawal is to your right.” she said professionally.I let the cash sit there. “Are you a tomboy in disguise?” I whispered conspiratorially. I enjoyed the emotion, the animation that played over her features. She was beautiful that was no doubt but it seemed that she also had a lot beneath that pretty exterior.“Don’t tell anyone,” she whispered back handing me a receipt. Her teeth were really white and really straight. I got this sudden craving to run my tongue along their smooth surface.“You’re secret is safe with me.” I tore my eyes away to pocket the cash, not bothering to count it. Oddly, I trusted her. I never trusted anyone.Behind me a loud banging sound boomed through the room and I tensed, spinning on my heels. Four guys pushed through the entrance, each of them pulling out a gun.I couldn’t even get away from this shit on vacation.Adrenaline spiked my system and began pumping through my veins and accelerating my heart. It didn’t take an idiot to guess why they were here. This was a bank and they had guns. I looked over my shoulder at Taylor who was watching the men with wide eyes.“Get down!” I ordered quietly. “Hide. Hide good.” Teaser

*ARC provided in exchange for an honest review*
When provided the opportunity to review a book by Teresa Mummert, I always take it - and Pretty Little Things didn't disappoint.
Teresa Mummert's books are always different and I feel like Pretty Little Things was an amazing book in that direction. Annabel and Colin have perfected living the perfect life, all based on a lie. Colin is protecting Annabel from their past, and when he isn't consumed with guilt over his role in what ruined Annabel's life, he's consumed with the feelings he has for her that remained as deeply buried as the past that haunts him.
For Annabel, hiding has become second nature, and the only person who knows the truth is the man protecting her from her nightmares. But when she's not pretending that her life is perfect, she's harboring feelings for her protector and after a single lapse in judgement, Colin and Annabel are forced to face the past they've been hiding from.
I've read all of Teresa Mummert's New Adult books, and Pretty Little Things is by far my absolute favorite! What I enjoy most about Teresa's books is the unpredictability of the story, and the way the reader is left wondering what will happen next. This book had drama, angst and sexual tension abounds, three things Teresa does incredibly well! I look forward to reading what Teresa comes up with next!

Excerpt
Chapter 1 - AnnieI knocked on the office door that sat ajar as I watched Colin at his desk, his suit jacket off and sleeves rolled up, exposing the large cross tattoo on his forearm, as he stared at his laptop screen. His dark hair was disheveled, and a day’s worth of stubble shadowed his jawline. Beside his laptop was a black gun that was always within reach.                  “Busy,” he snapped angrily, not bothering to glance in my direction as I glared at him.                  “Good. I’ll stay out of your way. Don’t wait up.” I turned to hurry down the flight of stairs toward the second floor, but he called after me before I could make my getaway.                  “Wait. Where the hell are you going?”                  I rolled my eyes and groaned like a child as I slowly traipsed back to his office and pushed the door open. “Out with some friends.” His eyes ran up and down my body before he shook his head in disapproval, and his gaze dropped back to the computer screen.                  “Not dressed like that. Go change.”                  “You don’t get to tell me what to wear. I’m seventeen, and you’re not my father.” I folded my arms over my chest as my eyes narrowed, ready for a fight.                  With a sigh, he pushed back his chair and slowly stood to his full six feet in height, making me feel impossibly small. He rounded the desk as he pulled up his zipper. That’s when I noticed the mass of blond hair from a girl kneeling behind his desk. Gross. He came to a stop in front of me, forcing me to tilt my head back. It was challenging to glare at someone from this angle and still look menacing.                  “Change your outfit, or you’re not leaving.”                  “Watch me.” I pivoted on my toes, my long blond curls hitting him in the chest. Two muscular arms banded around my waist, pulling my feet from the ground as he held me against him from behind.                  “Annie, I’m a very fucking busy man,” he growled next to my ear. “Do not pull this bullshit tonight. This is not a fucking game. Change your clothes, or I will lock you in your room. Do I make myself clear?”                  “Crystal,” I bit out between clenched teeth as he lowered me to the ground. To say Colin was overprotective of me was an understatement, but he was equally annoyed by my presence, which made dealing with him a constant game of Russian roulette.                  “Asshole. You messed up my hair,” I muttered as I made my way down to the second floor and into my bedroom. I slammed the door loud enough to rattle the walls, but I knew he probably didn’t even hear it upstairs. That was one of the perks of living in such a large house. I glanced at my reflection in the full-length antique mirror across the room, running my finger under my lower lip to fix my smudged gloss. My hair was pale blond and curled perfectly down my back. I wore a low-cut purple V-neck T-shirt that hugged my curves and made my green eyes pop, paired with cutoff jean shorts that probably cost more than the average person’s week-long vacation. Well hidden and disguised was the credulous little girl that I used to be when we came to live in Connor’s house.                  I pulled off my shirt and tossed it on the ground as I stepped inside my walk-in closet. Pulling out a sensible white eyelet dress that covered anything Colin would find offensive, I cursed under my breath. I slid my shorts down over my hips and kicked them off against the wall as a knock came at my door.                  “Go away,” I yelled, and I heard the deep rumble of his laugh as he slowly opened the door and stepped inside my room. He had his hands shoved in his pockets as he looked me over in matching black bra and panties trimmed with delicate lace.                  “I’m sorry. I have enough on my plate right now. With Connor sick, I have to pick up his work slack. I can’t be worried about you running around town looking like…” He gestured with his hands, and for the first time since I could remember, Colin was at a loss for words as he took me in.“I’m just hanging out with some friends. You guys want me to blend in; this was me blending in. No one at school dresses like this.” I tossed my hands in the air, hating that at only nineteen he felt he could tell me what to do. He was taking his role as my pretend brother a little too far.The loud clacking of heels on the wooden floor caught his attention, and he turned around to face bobbing head from under desk girl.“I’ll just be a minute, and then we can leave. You mind grabbing my keys from the office?”“Sure.” She smiled sweetly, her lips coated with a fresh layer of red, before disappearing up the stairs to the third floor. Colin turned his attention back to me, his jaw clenched in frustration.                  “First of all, you wear uniforms at school. Second, you’re a Blakely now. You need to dress the part. This is a very small town, and people talk. We’ve spent years trying to blend in, and now you want to walk around looking like a whore just to prove you’re what? A grown-up?” His voice rose with every word, as did my temper. I crossed the room in large strides and poked my finger against his hard chest, but he didn’t budge from the doorway, and the shadows from my darkened room made the chiseled contours of his face even more menacing.                  “You don’t seem to have a problem with the women you fuck dressing like whores. Why do I have to dress like a librarian?”                  His hand was in my hair, fisting and tugging back ever so slightly, my chin titled up toward his face, which was now only an inch from mine. “If you don't dress like a lady, I will stop treating you like one, and that will be more fun for me than it is you, I promise.” He swallowed hard, and my lips parted in shock as I struggled to keep my breathing under control. It wasn’t a threat—it was a warning. The hammering of my heart in my ears blocked out the sound of heels on hardwood, and it wasn’t until bobbing head from under desk girl gasped, “Colin?” that we noticed her presence.                  “Sorry, sweetheart. Just teaching my little sister here a lesson on being a lady.” His body blocked her view of his hold on me as his eyes drifted to my chest. Then he pressed a kiss to my forehead, and his long fingers untangled from my hair. “Now I’ve messed up your hair,” he whispered with a smirk.                  “I’ll be back.” He stepped away from me, and I watched in shock as his perfect smile was in place. Wrapping his arm around the girl, they descend the stairs to the first floor. I leaned out of my bedroom doorway just as he glanced over his shoulder at me and winked.                  I slammed my bedroom door hard and grabbed the white dress I had chosen, cursing under my breath as I pulled it over my head and ran my fingers through my now knotted hair.                  I hurried down the flight of stairs and out the front door, stopping as my eyes caught sight of Colin, his body pressed against the desk girl, pinning her against the side of his car as his mouth moved along her neck.                  I hurried down the steps and turned right, away from him. The property spanned miles and was bordered by a six-foot privacy fence, but through the woods there was a place where a few boards were missing. That was where I was headed. Barefoot and angry, I stomped my way through the trees, hurrying before Colin spotted where I was going.                  When I reached the fence, I slipped between the missing slats and into Jacob’s waiting arms. He smelled of smoke, weed, and sin. His hands slid around my lower back and began to creep down to my ass as he pressed his lips against mine. His body was thin but muscular like a swimmer. He was the only person in this town who didn’t treat me like I was a fragile ornament whose only purpose was for decoration.                  “You taste so good,” he mumbled against my lips. I ran my hand over his dark hair, which was now long enough to always look like he’d just rolled out of bed. He pressed his lips against my forehead and pulled back to look at me. “Why are you dressed like a librarian?” His chocolate eyes were barely open under the weight of the drugs he’d consumed, and his lips twisted into a smile.                  “Like you need to bother asking.” I rolled my eyes, instantly infuriated all over again at being treated like a helpless child.                  “I wish you’d let me talk to that asshole.”                  I took a step back and shook my head. Jacob and I had been seeing each other for three months, but no one else knew of our secret encounters. “I’d rather not subject you to his bullshit.” I rolled my eyes as my fingers gripped the front of his dark-brown vintage T-shirt that read “Ramones” across his chest. But what I really meant, and what we both were thinking, was that no one would understand us. I didn’t even know for sure what we were. Jacob had been a friend, and we’d blurred that line on more than one occasion, but I wasn’t stupid. Our lives were very different. I was a Blakely, and he’d grown up in the wrong tax bracket. There was nothing logical or permanent about us.                  He tucked a blond curl behind my ear, and I leaned my cheek against his warm palm.                  “I can’t wait to leave this horrible place and finally not have people telling me what to do.”                  Jake chuckled as he ran his hand over the back of his head. His lips curled up in the smile that made my knees go weak. “It’s only horrible for one of us. You live on that side of the fence.”                  “The grass isn’t always greener, Jake.” I stepped forward and pressed my body against his as I laid my head against his chest.                  “I’m just trying to give you some perspective. You don’t have it that bad. And you know I have the greenest grass in town.” His fingers slid into my hair, and he held me tightly, pressing a kiss to the top of my head.                  Jacob wasn’t the type of boy who was looking for a long-term relationship. He knew what to say to make me smile, and I pretended I was the only one he said them to.                  “My dad is working late tonight. That girl who went missing a few weeks ago was found behind that run-down gas station off of Maple Street. We could watch a movie.”                  “You make crime sound so sexy,” I deadpanned as I laced my fingers in his, and we began to walk out of the woods.                  “Having a cop for a dad has its occasional perks.”                  “Like him looking the other way?” I sniffed the air, letting him know I could smell the pot all over him.                  “If you ask me nicely, maybe I’ll share.” He winked, and the butterflies took flight in my stomach as we crossed the dirt road beside the field and made our way up his back porch steps. Jake’s father was the local law and also an alcoholic who suffered from depression and a heavy hand, according to Jake. I’d never had the misfortune of meeting him and was happy to keep it that way. I had my fair share of dominant assholes in my life.I stood inside the kitchen as Jake closed the door behind us. My eyes wandered over the mountain of unwashed dishes in the sink.                  “You should really have someone do those.”                  “We can’t all afford hired help, princess.” He lifted my hand and pressed his lips against the back. I pulled my hand free from his and rolled my eyes.                  “Don’t call me that.” I folded my arms over my chest as he chuckled, his fingers running through his messy dark hair.                  “Aw…did I hurt your feelings?”                  I turned my head away from him. “Please. I’d have to care for you to hurt my feelings.”                  “Ouch. Can I kiss it make it better?” He placed his fingertips under my chin and turned my face toward his. I couldn’t contain the smile that spread across my face when I looked at him. “Is that a yes?”                  He leaned forward slowly, his gaze falling from my eyes to my lips before he kissed me, softly. His mouth moved against mine, and I placed my hands on his chest as my lips parted. I pulled back, opening my eyes as I gazed up at him. “Is this why you brought me here? Just so you can try to get in my pants?”                  “You’re not wearing pants.” He smirked as he took a step back and grabbed my hand, pulling me into the living room. “I’m picking the movie. That teenage drama shit put me to sleep last time. Happily ever after is for fairy tales and the delusional masses.”                  “Hell on Main Street kept me awake for two days. I pick.”                  He sat down on the couch, propping his foot up on the coffee table next to a stack of manila folders. He patted the cushion beside him, and I grinned as I sat down, our sides pressed together.                  “I’ll let you choose if you smoke with me.”                  “You know I don’t like that stuff. It makes you stupid.” I laughed, my hand over my mouth as he scowled at me.                  “This coming from the girl who is in a guy’s house, alone, in the middle of the night, and no one knows where you are?”                  “Aw…” I grabbed the remote from the cushion beside me and turned on the television, flipping through the channels while Jacob stretched his leg to dig in his jeans pocket for his cigarette pack.                  “What are you doing?” I asked as I tucked my hair behind my ear and continued to change channels.                  “We had a deal, remember?”                  “You can’t smoke in here.” I glanced down at the joint he had just pulled from the pack and shook my head. “Your dad is a cop. What if he comes home? My first time meeting your family is going to land me in jail.”                  He shrugged as he placed it between his lips and lit the lighter. I folded my arms over my stomach as I shook my head, which was now enveloped in a cloud of smoke.                  “Come here.” Jake’s fingers slid along my jaw, turning my face to his as his mouth inched closer to mine. I let my lips part as he slowly exhaled, his smoke pouring deep into my lungs.                  I held in my breath as my chest began to burn, and I coughed, a giggle escaping me as Jacob’s lips curled into a mischievous grin. My cheeks heated under his gaze as his tongue rolled out over his lower lip.                  “What?” I asked, my head tilted as I watched his eyes study me, feeling a blush creep over my cheeks.                  “I feel like I’m corrupting you.” He shook his head, but his gaze settled on my legs and slowly drifted upward. I smoothed my hands over the skirt of my dress, feeling naked under his scrutinizing gaze. But this was what I’d been wanting, someone who didn’t want me to be perfect.                  “I’d have to be innocent for you to corrupt me.” My fingers grasped the hem of my skirt, and I slid it up my thigh an inch, watching as the column of his throat jumped from a hard swallow. He placed his hand over mine, lacing our fingers before pulling it to his face and pressing a soft kiss to my skin.                  “You’re such a tease.”                  I felt oddly comforted by the fact that he didn’t want to use me to get in my pants, and I didn’t need to be a mindless bimbo like all of the other girls in town. I leaned my head against his shoulder as he took the remote from my hand and flipped through the channels. “Let’s do something for your birthday. Let me make you a cake or”—he laughed—“buy you a cake or something.”                  I smiled at his thoughtfulness. “I wish I could, but I’m having dinner with my family.” The truth was I wasn’t even sure anyone remembered, but to say it out loud was too embarrassing. He pressed his lips to the top of my head, and with a heavy sigh I let my eyes fall closed.                  The next thing I remember was waking up, my mouth tasting like it was full of cotton. Jacob was lying sideways, his legs off the couch, and I was resting my head on his chest.                  “Shit!” I pushed up from him, wiping the hair from my face.                  “What? What’s wrong?” He pushed up on his elbows and rubbed his eye with the heel of his hand as he blinked away his exhaustion.                  “Shit. Shit. Shit. What time is it?” I combed my fingers through my messy hair, my eyes darting around the dark room. The television was now playing a workout infomercial. “I have to go.” I pushed against Jake’s legs to move him out of my way so I could get off the couch without straddling his body.                  “Let me walk you.” He yawned through his words as he sat up, resting his elbows on his knees as he shook his head.                  “No. Go back to sleep. I’ll be fine.” I turned to leave, but his fingers looped around my wrist, and I almost tumbled backward onto his lap. “Jake, I have to go.”                  “I’m walking you to the fence.”                  I twisted around to look at his face, which was illuminated by the television. He wasn’t in the mood to argue, and neither was I. “All right. Hurry up.”                  Jacob pushed from the couch and put his hands on my hips from behind as he guided me from the house and out to the old field. I laced my fingers with his and gazed up at his beautiful face in the moonlight. He made my heart stop and race at the same time. The hard lines of his jaw, nose, and cheekbones made him look like he was carved from granite. His eyes looked black as coal, a stark contrast to his pale skin.                  “When are you coming to see me again?” he asked, his eyes searching over my face.                  “Depends on whether or not I get caught sneaking in,” I laughed, but it was out of nervousness. I was not in the mood for Colin’s bullshit. If he found out I was sneaking around with Jacob, I’d never hear the end of it.                  I slowed as we reached the fence, not wanting to leave his side.                  “Come see me tomorrow.” He tugged on my hand, turning me to face him.                  “It may be a few days.”                  He nodded as he gazed out to the fence. “You want me to walk you to your house?”                  “I’ll be fine. It’s private property. I’m the only one who ever goes in those woods.” I gripped the front of his Ramones T-shirt and pressed my mouth against his, letting my lips linger. As I pulled back, Jake’s eyes slowly opened, and he grinned his heart-stopping crooked smile, his dark eyes hooded.                  “I’ll see you later.” He ran his hand over his hair, causing it to stick up in every direction.                   “Bye.” I waved as I slipped through the hole in the fence and disappeared into the trees toward my home.

Author Bio:"I was a Russian spy at the ripe age of thirteen, given my uncanny ability to tell if someone was lying ( I also read fortunes on the weekends). By sixteen I had become too much of a handful for the Lethal Intelligence Ensemble (L.I.E.). I was quickly exiled to the south of France where I worked with wayward elephants in the Circus of Roaming Animals and People (C.R.A.P.). I was able to make ends meet by selling my organs on the black market for pocket change and beer money. At the age of twenty three I decided to expand my horizons and become a blackjack dealer in Ireland. I loved the family atmosphere at Barney's Underground Liquor Lounge (B.U.L.L.). People couldn't resist the allure of Liquor up front and poker in the rear. Eventually I became tired of the rear and headed off to the United States to try my hand at tall tales. Demi
The plane touched down at O’Hare International airport in Chicago and I woke with a start. I was groggy from the flight even though it was only two hours long at the most. My mood had worsened considerably but I chalked it down to why I was here in the first place and told myself to suck it up. The sooner I saw Brody and got this out of the way, the sooner I could go home and crawl back into the darkness and despair that had been my life for the past two months. It was easier that way, for me at least. I knew everyone at home, including Huntley, had become frustrated with my behavior and my need to hide away from the world. Too bad I didn’t care. They didn’t understand what I had gone through and they sure as hell had no idea what it was like to live in the perpetual darkness that had consumed me. I was only a fraction of the person I once was and no one could pretend they knew what that was like.I grabbed the small bag that I’d brought with me for my two and a half day visit from the luggage carousel and made my way out to where the cabs were parked. It was late and the sun had just started setting but it felt like I’d been awake for days on end. Everything hurt. My head, my arms, my legs, my belly. But nothing compared to the hurt I felt gnawing away at my chest. But I was here for a reason, a purpose, and I had to see that through before I allowed myself to be overcome by my grief. I hailed a cab and after sliding in, I gave Brody’s address to the cab driver. As we weaved through the streets, the tall glass buildings whizzing past, it hit me that all of this was what he’d left me for. While I took full responsibility for allowing him to leave and chase his dreams, it felt like a slap in the face to know this was what he’d been chasing. My stomach twisted and I rubbed at the dull ache. I had to do this. I needed closure and Brody deserved to know the truth. Minutes later, the cab stopped outside an apartment building and I asked the driver to wait for ten minutes before he drove away. I wasn’t sure how this was going to go and if necessary, I needed an escape plan. Not that Brody would hurt me. I was more worried about the pain I was about to inflict on myself. The cool evening air nipped at my skin and I hugged my sweater closer for warmth. I was always cold lately but it seemed worse with the cooler temperatures in the city. I took the crumpled up piece of paper out of my pocket that Grayson had given me and checked which apartment number belonged to Brody. If I was right, I would’ve been able to see which apartment was his from the street and taking a chance, I counted four floors up and six apartment windows to the right. I lost my breath when I saw him standing there, leaning against a window. Wearing nothing but what looked like his pajama bottoms, he still looked as impossibly beautiful as I’d remembered. He was the villain in my nightmares night after night and still I missed him fiercely. I stared at him a short while, until a tall blonde came up from behind him and wrapped her arms around him. He hadn’t pushed her away, but he hadn’t returned her intimate embrace either. It became obvious to me then, standing outside on the sidewalk. He’d moved on. After only four months. Four months that had been nothing short of Hell on Earth for me. MeetTheAuthor Tamsyn Author Pic

Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. 4YL Teaser 1

EXCERPT:

“Anything else?” I ask them minutes later as I drop the check on their table.

Owen slaps his hand against the piece of paper and drags it toward him. “I think that’s it.”

“Great.” I smile but it feels brittle. “I can be your cashier or you can pay at the register.”

“Hey, what else can you be for us, huh?” one of Owen’s friends ask, making the other one laugh.

My cheeks are hot again and my mouth is open. I’m gaping at them like a dying fish and thankfully Owen rushes to my defense. “Shut the hell up, Des.” He glances up at me, all traces of the buzzed foolish boy who first walked in here gone. “He’s drunk. He doesn’t know what he’s saying.”

“I know exactly what I’m saying,” drunken Des mumbles, clamping his lips shut when Owen shoots him a deathly stare.

“It’s all right,” I say, backing away from them slowly. “Take your time.”

I turn to flee from their table when I hear someone slide out of the booth, strong fingers curling around my upper arm and stopping me from leaving. He’s standing directly behind me, the warmth from his body seeping into mine and I go completely still. Willing myself not to react, not to say something stupid and embarrass myself.

Look what he’s doing to me just by touching my arm. This sort of thing doesn’t happen to me. I don’t care about boys. I’ve been kissed a measly three times in my life, once by Cody Curtis the tongue thruster and he definitely doesn’t count.

So twice. Twice I’ve been kissed and I’m a virgin. A freaking virgin. Owen Maguire has player written all over him. I’m nothing to him.

So why is he touching me? Talking to me in that husky low murmur of his that slides over me like slow, warm honey?

“…need to talk to you. About this tutoring thing,” he’s saying and I wrench myself out of his grip, irritated that I didn’t pay attention to what he said at first.

“Just meet me Monday afternoon as scheduled and we should be good to go.” I turn to face him, a fake smile plastered to my face and he stares at my lips for a long, breath stealing second before he finally lifts those too pretty green eyes up to meet mine.

My lips are tingling like he actually kissed them. God.

“I don’t even know your name,” he murmurs.
