Our Last Days

Our Last Days

where did your mind wander to before

you draped your flesh over smooth linen?

the vultures peer through frosted windows,

knowing you are empty; that they can vomit

up your bones after devouring what you have

left behind. they say they eat the eyes first to ensure

you don’t come back, knowing that there

are souls who make it to purgatory and fear

what they have become; ghosts are littered

around us. one wonders if they remember anything.

we can all imagine why your breath lingers

on the indentions of the mattress, but we

already know. we are our own tragedies that

haven’t burst yet; little grenades tick tick

ticking beneath our hearts, waiting for it

to pile; for us to make our peace. but we

are human, we teach ourselves to

misunderstand, to confuse, to keep

the morning precious because we

cannot disturb ourselves.

mother of all things, you lay there,

curves in place because you wanted

us to remember the grace you carried

with you always. we are to never forget

how simple you were, or how refinement

of your character fell from your tips. you

were beauty, and we were the followers

who could only remember how you were,

never who you were; never your name.

we’ll bury you tomorrow, you’ll grow

flowers after the time passes.

Weasel Press - Weasel Press Chapbook Contest

Weasel Press - Weasel Press Chapbook Contest:

Weasel Press is hosting it’s first poetry chapbook contest, and hoping to make it a yearly thing. We love the existential, beat poetry; poetry that thrives on showing us the current state of the human condition. We encourage poets to get experimental with their work, slam it into us. Don’t be afraid to really twist your readers with your words. Details about the contest are listed below. We ask that you read our guidelines and review some of the work we have published before submitting to us. This will allow you to get a better feel for who we are as a community and what we enjoy.

Winner of this contest will receive 20 free copies of their chapbook and a cash prize of $250. 1 winner will be selected, the finalists of this contest will be reviewed for publishing projects for our 2016 line up.

Rules:

-Must not have a current or pending project with Weasel Press

-Must not be an editor or staff member of Weasel Press or it’s affiliate magazines (The Haunted Traveler, Degenerates, Vagabonds: anthology of the Mad Ones, Typewriter Emergencies).

-We will not be accepting Simultaneous work for this contest.

-Chapbooks must be unpublished as a whole (individual pieces published in magazines are fine).

-There is a one time $15 entry fee.

Submissions are accepted through submittable. The contest will take place in two rounds and have been broken down below. Round one will be open submissions. In Round 1 we ask that entrants submit a sample of their chapbook, roughly 3-5 poems. Nothing that identifies the poet can be on this manuscript as it will be read blind. Samples must be one poem per page, Times New Roman, 12pt font and Single Space (unless your poem has special formatting). We only accept files that are DOC, DOCX, RTF. Submissions for round one will end August 1, 2015

Our editorial committee will select 10 contestants to move onto round two. Round two poets will be asked to supply a full manuscript and a video of themselves reading a few poems from that manuscript (3-5 poems is fine for the video). Full Manuscripts should have 20-30 poems in it. Anything below 20 will get rejected without review. Full manuscripts will not be blindly read since we are asking for videos. Contestants will receive an email with an updated submittable link to upload their files, as well as a deadline to get their submissions in by.

Out of these 10 contestants, the committee will select 3 finalists, one of which will be the winner of the contest. Finalists will be reviewed for possible publication in our 2016 lineup.

Cigarette Burns is a collection of bad dreams; a collection that forces itself to relive hard experiences through massive anxiety attacks and hallucinations. It’s a book filled with the cigarette burns Izzy had to spit out at people because he suffered too much, and suffering’s no fun if you’re not sharing it with the world. It features the motherfuckers, the hipsters, and other degenerates that come and go in his life.

Izzy falls in love. He falls in love with several guys, that’s who he is. He grows too attached to people only realizing later on that they break too easily when you cling too much. So it goes.

He’s a nicotine eater, has to be other wise he’ll go to fuckin’ crazy on everyone and have to be put down. But that’s not a bad way of going, at least not for Izzy’s case. Dealing with broke-ass blues, fucked up romances and the systematic dread of going to work on the good days. Each story in this collection is a meditation on a part of life that some of us know all too well, and that some of us will never understand because we’re not in that position, and probably never will be.

It’s all about being human and nothing else.

Cigarette Burns can be purchased through amazon and my online store! To learn more about Kool Kids Press visit their website where they make literature kool again.

There’s a hell inside of all of us, whether we’re going through hard times financially or we’re being victimized because of who we are. This collection is written for all of us sharing in some of the roughest parts of our lives. It’s written to shed light on the LGBT discrimination, the laws that are being discussed to keep LGBTQ people out of states and businesses, even to put people like me to death. It’s written for the 86% of LGBTQ Youth who report being bullied in school, who are 4 times more likely to commit suicide which the chances only increase when they are victimized. It’s also written for those who’ve have their car towed away, lost a loved one, or are going through a rough break up. There’s a little bit of everything in here. The Hell Inside Us is slated for May 31, 2015 and is published through Earl of Plaid.
