These Things Will Pass

my father told me that

he didn’t recognize faggots

as people; that animals

must pray to find forgiveness.

so each night i wrote my prayers

in a notebook, ripped them

out and allowed the words to

scar my insides. i was told that

if you sat still long enough

the ink would heal all wounds.

it only made me sick;

only made me break the

towers i forced my arms

to build, realizing that we

have all forgotten our god.

we allow our hearts to be

filled with pistols and brimstone,

shooting the doves inside

our children. innocence is a

doctrine burned from our bodies.

dreaming is a forgotten luxury,

the soft persuasion that understood

our wounds; that understood the

cuts inside us when absolution never came.

at night i pull words from my veins,

lay them like body bags on the ground

allowed them to spread roots in the dirt;

my own scripture singed to the grass.

these words are my ghosts. painted

doors etched upon their chests, not

ready to reveal how desolate they’ve

become. the ashes of their sins still

stuck in the silos of their broken throats.

the stars we sit beneath are labyrinths

to our dreams,reminders that

paper-cut wounds are not scars;

that these wavering prayers shall pass.

I had a moment to sit down with Neil S. Reddy about his latest short story collection, Tales in Liquid Time! Take a look at this fun conversation as we discuss some of the strangest stories compiled in this collection.

http://www.weaselpress.com/#!liquidtime/c14ck

Neil S. Reddy has been slumped over a typewriter for so long that he has been recategorised as an angle-poised lamp and is often assailed by strangers trying to turn him off. Do not pity him. He is a foul mouthed man and is well able to defend himself - he once reduced a giraffe to tears with a lingering sneer. He should never be approached during the hours of darkness without a beverage. He is an outspoken opponent of everything ignorant, ugly, stupid or overpriced. He lives quietly with his family in the U.K but only because they keep him heavily sedated in a cupboard with a lock; that will be forever England…until it sinks into the sea. He has a beard that is older than many people and contains more wildlife than many zoos. He has an irrational fear of soup. He feels nothing but contempt for hamsters. He is not to be trusted. He is troubled, testy and weird to the bone. He also writes stories.

#RuntRaccoonRevolution by Jeremiah Walton

#RuntRaccoonRevolution by Jeremiah Walton:

To say that there is nothing interesting in #runtraccoonrevolution would be far from the truth. This particular collection of poetry is probably one of the most explosive books I’ve read, and I read a ton of poetry. Jeremiah Walton is a rather extraordinary writer who forces nothing but passion into his work. It’s what makes it shine like it does, and the energy this author uses in this collection I’ve seen in their previous books. There is no slowing down for mad ones; these dedicated individuals only pick up more speed as their art becomes a part of them.

Walton’s #runtraccoonrevolution offers the reader a wealth of impactful and gut punching material from page one to the end. It is simply a collection you wouldn’t want to put down (and would be a crime to do so). Essentially what you hold in your hands or what you’re reading on your screen (depending on your preference for reading) is “kerosene for the soul” and nothing less. If you’re wondering if you should grab this book, I would highly recommend it. Read a few pages at the Scribid link and decide for yourself, I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.
