You
there’s a man in the floor above me. He
shouts cocaine-driven obituaries at the
television when it’s 4AM, hoping that one
day his words will spread roots in the
wiring and come to life. if you asked
him where his home is, he couldn’t tell you.
he doesn’t know what home is; doesn’t know
that something can exist outside of you.
We’re a lot alike, this man and i. pushing
our paranoia into parachutes to keep
from reaching the ground; prayers
folded into coins in hopes you’ll answer them.
we whisper our dreams through the a/c vents,
but our tongues are not a language you understand.
though you’ve dissolved from us, we still
taste your presence, stuck with only cannonball
memories to take out the rest of the devastation
left in our bones. such is your persuasion in our deliriums.
early morning winds howl at the window as you
rise in the east, frost warming away. his mantras
slowly die off, enamored at the illusion of your
presence, waiting for you to play our hearts as they lay.
such manifestos are born out of
addiction, contracted by your hands.
