What it takes to get published by Weasel Press
Someone asked me the other day what it would take for Weasel Press to publish their work. I don’t think I’ve ever written a post on Weasel Press on this topic, so here it goes. Honestly, it’s up to the writer to do their own research on a publisher. Weasel Press has our own sense of what we look for and we try to give an idea in our submission guidelines. Every press is going to tell you they want your best, and that’s true with us too, but don’t be afraid of imperfections. You’re never going to get it perfect. We like to see the flaws in a writer. It makes the real. It makes them human. And that’s what we look it; what it takes to really be human. The human condition.
We want people to submit the work they’re nervous about, or the work they’re embarrassed by. It’s real, it’s genuine. And it’s that writing that really makes a difference to us. Each writer that we have accepted into our press has offered up something that sits at the core of themselves. They’ve offered up their philosophy, their viewpoint, their analysis of this funny thing called life. It’s different than literary fiction. Literary fiction isn’t as raw as what we’ve been putting out. There’s some fine tuning going on in lit fiction. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s not our thing.
What we don’t need are assholes. We don’t need people with a large ego. It’s not welcome here. Be confident in yourself, you’re fucking beautiful, but never be full of yourself. Big-ass egos are acidic to our community and to our core thought process. Weasel Press publishes the honest folk. The folks who know their dedication and understand that we’re all probably not going to make a shit ton of cash doing this. Publishing isn’t a money maker. It may be for some people playing into the popular feeds of larger markets, but it’s not for us. We break even most times.
We don’t restrict ourselves to genres because what we look for can be portrayed in all of them. There are things we don’t accept and we have a listing of what we don’t want at our website. Furry Fiction, Horror, Science Fiction, General Fiction, it all can portray the core of human nature. It can all be real if a writer takes time to really analyze it.
Every person is going to tell you to buy their book. That’s the business of it all. But I truly believe that folks should review a Weasel Press release before submitting their work. If you don’t want to buy a book that’s fine. We offer magazines for free through ISSUU, and they give you a really good view of the press as a whole. If you do buy a book I’ll love you forever. Our authors are really one of a kind and we couldn’t make it without them and our readers out there. Although our projects are vastly different, we seem to share similar views here and there. We share the importance of being real; of really understanding what we want to do with our art. And we’re not afraid of it.
If you’re submitting to Weasel Press and even our sister project Red Ferret Press, be bold, be confident and be real. One thing to note right now is that Weasel Press is not accepting unsolicited manuscripts at that time. We have a lot of projects going on at the moment and just cannot give any time to unsolicited projects as we would love to. We will reach out to authors if we feel we are capable to. Red Ferret Press, our erotic extension, is seeking unsolicited manuscripts. The same goes for Red Ferret Press. Be real with your art. Send us something different, get a little kinky with it. Don’t send us a 50shades knock off. Send us something that really resembles you as a person and as an artist. We love that.
So I suppose you have it. Do some research before sending us your project. And always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss something, just shoot me an email. We’re really nice people.

Coming soon to VOD and DVD, Poetry is Dead! A look inside the minds of poets and an analysis of the current state of poetry.
It’s been said that poetry is a dying art; that poetry is unimportant. When it comes to the literary world, poetry is placed on the back burner while we furiously write the next big novel in hopes of selling it for movie rights and getting a trilogy deal out of it. Marketing at its best. And there’s nothing really wrong with that, and that’s why there’s beauty in poetry. It’s anarchistic; it’s rebellious, it is not afraid to shove itself in people’s faces. This film is an exploration of poetry through a series of interviews and poetry readings. Poetry is Dead! examines the current state of poetry and the passion that drives poets to continue doing what they do. Is poetry really dead? Is it dying? Who are we as poets? All of these things are discussed in this feature film released through Weasel Press!

we are all holy
we are all holy
she posts on facebook, asking
god for forgiveness; asking to
spare us for legalizing basic
human rights. protesting through
prayers, she keeps her hatred
through peaceful resolve, spouting
horseshit about her religious freedom,
but no one ever discusses our
freedom from her religion.
we must remember to be
mindful of their disgust;
to respect them with each
step we take towards growing,
but they are never mindful
of our bodies each time they
burn scars into our flesh,
herd us into churches and
force us to pray ourselves
away. we are not sins
waiting to be absolved,
we do not spit arrows into
anyone’s god. we simply
want to be human.
i can imagine her suffering each time
the rainbow passes on her wall,
each time we make it another inch.
how you have suffered, poor soul,
watching your people set themselves
on fire in protest because their pain
is the last resort. they haven’t scarred
well, they have to show us that
pain works on both sides.
we have yet to feel the acid rain
from god’s mouth; he hasn’t
waved his hands to dissolve us
from the existence he bled from
his fingers. we are all holy. your
embers will not lift you to heaven.
the ashes will only further the
hell we’ve worked hard to create.

holy
making flames drip from your
eyes, they all waited for you. you
who could not love, who was empty
and cock thirsty, but you were god
tending to their prayers.
it’s just, i never heard you speak
angel before. i can still see the
stains from your chipped blessings
etched along your teeth. you were
not so holy when the miracles ran dry.

Title: Not Kafka
Author: Neil S. Reddy
Release: September 2015
Why didn’t Kafka write for children and such cult classics as Love Story, or the Sound of Music? And what if he did? Tales of horror, suspense, alienation, transformation, and talking animals but it’s Not Kafka. It’s Not Kafka but it’s a collection of dark, funny and very nasty shorts.
Neil S. Reddy has been slumped over a typewriter for so long that he has been recategorised as an angle-poised lamp and is often assailed by strangers trying to turn him off. Do not pity him. He is a foul mouthed man and is well able to defend himself - he once reduced a giraffe to tears with a lingering sneer. He should never be approached during the hours of darkness without a beverage. He is an outspoken opponent of everything ignorant, ugly, stupid or overpriced. He lives quietly with his family in the U.K but only because they keep him heavily sedated in a cupboard with a lock; that will be forever England…until it sinks into the sea. He has a beard that is older than many people and contains more wildlife than many zoos. He has an irrational fear of soup. He feels nothing but contempt for hamsters. He is not to be trusted. He is troubled, testy and weird to the bone. He also writes stories.
