You’ve Got It All Wrong

11741263_996086973759241_5056583891238021529_o
You’ve Got It All Wrong…

‘There is nothing about an individual as important as his IQ, except possibly his morals’ …

If you haven’t heard the quote above before, it’s from Lewis Terman.

Lewis was a professor of Psychology at Stanford University during the first half of the 20th century.

He was responsible for studying over 250,000 students and is credited for much of what we know and understand about intelligence testing.

Here’s the thing, though;

He got it wrong.

What!?

Yes, he got it wrong.

Okay, when it came to intelligence and it’s link to success…

Terman understood a lot more than most people do.

But he missed one important part of the puzzle.

You see…

He believed (wrongly) that the greater a person’s IQ, the greater a person’s achievements would be in life.

He made an automatic and unbreakable link.

There’s a link of course.

There is a point where the level of IQ stops playing a part and other factors (with equal or greater importance) kick in.

It’s the same in every area of life, business or sport.

There are ‘required traits or attributes’ needed to succeed. But once you have ‘enough’ to compete in the game – the game is then won on a number of different fronts.

Take Michael Jordan as an example;

He was ‘big enough’ to play basketball at the highest level – but NOT the biggest basketball player of all time. But he was (probably) the greatest basketball player of all time.

Read that again.

He was ‘big enough’.

Not the biggest.

You see…

While the traits (to be tall) are important for basketball success – that isn’t all that is needed to succeed and get to the top.

If it was, every guy over 6feet 6 inches would be playing professional basketball, right?

And they’re not.

So what’s the point?

It’s this;

Unfortunately, you’ve had it wrong this whole time. You’ve been trained to think that you must be the best to succeed – the biggest, the fastest, the most connected, the richest, the most beautiful – and if you’re not you don’t or won’t get in the game.

I know because I was the same.

The thing is…

You probably already have most (if not all) of what YOU need to succeed.

You have the required traits, suitable experience and preferred characteristics. You might even have the right contacts and network to help you reach your specific goals.

But something is missing.

Something is holding you back.

Perhaps, there are just a couple of small adjustments you need to make to turn into an A Team competitor.

You could be right at the tipping point – ready to turn your life around and start reaching all your goals – with just a few little things needed to turn you into one of life’s success stories.

And simple guidance could be the key to YOUR success.

A clear path – personal to your journey – could propel you towards the finish line in the shortest possible time.

That’s where my Emergency Email Coaching program comes in…

Whatever your roadblock might be, I’ll take a close look at your situation and we’ll find a way through.

I’ll give you the plan and set you off in the right direction and all you’ll have to do is follow it.

Here’s how it will work;

You’ll send me your questions by email (3-5 paragraphs & 700 words max) and outline in detail what your current situation, problem or questions are.

I will get back to you within 1 business day (weekends excluded) with a personalized and extensive response to your question – detailing your options and helping you overcome your problem and move forward quickly.

I may choose to answer your question via a full blog or YouTube video – giving you a more face-to-face and personalized response – if you would like me to do this for you.

The Frying Pan Of Life

When you are going through big changes, you are going to come across some significant difficulties. Pain is going to come out to play, your inner critic is going to run wild, and you are going to have some struggles. That’s ok! That actually means you are heading in the right direction.

The Frying Pan Of Life is all about how to get close enough to the pain to work with it without being consumed by it. When you are constructing a new life, old things tend to seep out and you have to spend some time working with them. This is a natural part of the growing process. But you have to work with them…if you don’t, you run the risk of allowing the past to sabotage your dreams.

When We Bloom

11190336_471736549656449_1267286436_n

We bloom when we reach our edges and decide to jump off them knowing full well we only have one chance to build our wings on the way down to fly.

I had a pretty thought provoking conversation with someone the other night via my blog and it really got me thinking. The conversation was about fear and the existing of fear in your life as you grow older. Now the comment was coming from someone much older than me so I’m beat there in terms of “year into this life” but like I said, it got me thinking. We may not exactly agree on this point but that’s not really the point of this blog at all. The point of this blog is to spark conversation, thought, and bring out perspective that can change the way people see their world. Disagreement, if you actually take time to see a perspective from someone else’s eyes, can actually really offer you a different angle at your life.

That’s what happened for me.

I’ve been wondering lately if fear really ever does diminish or if we just get better at acting when fear shows up. I think the first real big step is learning how to work with fear and any other emotion really. For a great deal of time, I tried to push things away instead of letting them have a place in my life. That way of doing things really creates a lot of unnecessary tension in your life as you are stopping the natural flow of things. But I think the real art form is being able to get close to these deep emotions and feelings without being consumed by them…as well as keeping just enough distance to actually feel them in the first place. My conversations with mentor coaches and going through development has really given me a new access to this way of doing things  and the best way I have found to do this is through meditation with a purpose.

There are many types of meditation…one that I do every single day is simply meditation for the sake of meditation. But more specifically, I do a meditation with an intention of really going somewhere I don’t want to go.

This isn’t the easiest thing to do. In fact, if you are willing to do this, you might have to muster up some courage to really be able to deal with the consequences of doing some shadow work. But that’s ok. The consequences are short term – a bit of pain, tears, hurting etc. But the benefits of this type of work are amazing – clarity, unfolding, peace.

I forget who says this religiously, but it’s a pretty well known fact that most people will do anything to avoid pain. I can see that to certainly be true throughout most of my life. I avoided pain like the plague. The only unfortunate thing about avoiding pain is that you eventually numb yourself to life. When you avoid experiences you also avoid the positive in your life as well. It’s not on purpose that you are avoiding the positive…but you are actually numbing yourself to feeling those emotions as well.

Not really the best thing.

I really feel like we bloom when we start committing to actually letting the full experience of life hit us with all its got. Yes, some amazingly rough punches are going to be thrown, but you really have no idea how resilient you are until you go for it fully. You also have no idea about how present and how amazing life can be during those times when punches aren’t thrown. This, I can tell you from personal experience.

11330010_10204459970193102_7672734038915647292_n

I remember hearing from Elon Musk himself “I think that’s the single best piece of advice: constantly think about how you could be doing things better and questioning yourself.” I guess that is how I’ve come this far in the game already. 5 years of thinking about what really matters to me and putting it down on paper almost every single day. I think questioning yourself is a great thing…looking at why you think the way you do and what really matters to you etc. But, eventually, you do need to be willing to pull the trigger and really go for it. You have to be willing to make decisions and follow through with them all the way to the finish line.

11378450_594298584046209_252920773_n

Some things are going to fail miserably – been there. Been there a lot actually. But your perseverance is going to be the one thing that sets your temporary failures apart from being a failure. There’s a huge difference. At times, when things are going downhill…you will fail. You will absolutely fail. But once you accept this in its entirety and make it a part of yourself as who you are as a human being…you’ve then labeled yourself as a failure. When that happens, it’s really hard to come back from. Dreams die during that time. I’ve seen mine shrivel up when it has happened to me.

Jumping when you are a little bit nervous can be tough…but we all reach that point. You’re standing on the edge and you know that feeling in your gut when you actually do…and it can either paralyze you are slightly motivate you to go. Every single time I go cliff jumping I get this feeling and it reminds me of all the other decisions we have to make in our mind throughout life.

So take that risk…because when you do something a bit beyond your current self, you grow, you bloom, and you become something you weren’t before.

What Is Going On Today?!

10608168_1502778276657394_1707556555_n

This really got me thinking this evening. It’s been one hell of an interesting day, and coming across this really sparked something in my mind. As I get a little bit older I realize how little words without action actually mean. I’ve seen this really everywhere, whether it’s with things being told to me or things I hear being told to others. For me, I love words – I’m a writer – and words are some of the most powerful things on this planet. But I make damn sure mine are backed with every ounce of who I am. The type of backing like…”You can take this to the bank it’ already done” type of thing.

I’m seeing a lot of different things going on with the world I’m aware of, but one of the biggest things is that people seem timid and afraid to really show their love. Maybe it’s because we have grown up in such a way that focuses on controversy instead? I’m not really sure. But what I do know is that with all of this tech, all of the texting and everything else, we are moving more and more away from standing right in front of someone and them knowing without a doubt that they are loved. Sometimes, without even saying one word. They just feel you.

Maybe I’m old school…but I think we may need a little bit of old school right now. Thoughts?

The Planting Of Diamonds

Image (23) Screen-Shot-2014-10-15-at-7.58.41-AM.png for post 11241

Every once in a while I take a step back from writing to really get a feel for it again. It’s not that I don’t like coming here, but I think I instinctually know after almost 5 years of writing when to take a little bit of a mental break. This past week has been one of the most rewarding weeks of my life as I launched my own life coaching business, was honored with many requests to work with me, and took another leap I never thought I would have taken if you only asked me this a year ago. I never thought way back when I was planting the diamonds of my future. Now, I guess I really understand the importance of creating a vision for yourself.

Last year for me, while there were some very bright spots, was “the pit” of my life. Whenever I tell my story, I have two major pits that I have fallen into, traversed, and climbed out of. Sure there are many downs…but truly none as deep as the one before The Better Man Project started and then during my time in Los Angeles. I lost a piece of myself down there. Looking back on it now, I can only see how extreme some of the things I was going through were. That may be a surprise to those who knew me down there, but in the time I have come back up here I truly realize that I was in a bad place and needed to get out.

I did.

I always have assigned new chapters to my life when I can really feel them coming on (is that much of a surprise for a writer?). This chapter however is really about going for it. I might have said this in a blog before, but it’s about truly branching out into the uncomfortable places of my life, the edges, and getting really comfortable there. A month-ish back I left an old life behind and left the harbor of what I knew was safe and familiar. That decision landed me here, coming across a calling to start a practice, and has also called me to start putting out a significant amount of content to reach as many people as possible. I’ve been listening to these calls loud and clear and haven’t really wasted a moment taking action with them. In fact, I’ve been hearing these calls so much that some of my practices that I do every single day have fallen to the back burner a bit…something I need to get back into as soon as possible.

11737967_997451936956078_261478508824911777_n

I’ve noticed lately that I’ve been growing in a way where I am finally realizing that I can’t do everything at once. I do have capacity issues. In the past I would really challenge myself to get as much done, do as much, provide as much, etc without really accepting the consequences…and it wouldn’t really burn me out fully, but it would be a brown out if I were to be honest about it. That way of doing things is not really sustainable at all. You have to be willing and able to create a consistent game plan for yourself that ends with the accomplishment of a long term vision. Not a vision to grasp at or drool over, but one that truly resonates with your heart and you know is a worthwhile cause to pursue.

This is something that I am working on in my life right now.

The first part of my vision lands me at 30 years old and then the second part strikes when I am 35. But I have to plant those seeds now in order to see them grow into that future. Sure things are subject to change along the way, but I know that what is in my mind and in my heart with all of this is worth my effort and my time.

I think the interesting part about life is that we always go on this little mini-journeys throughout the years and if we are courageous enough to answer the call, we learn more about ourselves than we could have ever possibly imagined. I know that this is where I am at right now and can’t imagine going back to the way I was before. I actually can’t go back. Once your mind has been expanded, it can never shrink back down to a previous state of consciousness. It will always be changed.

I will always be changed.

Like A Virgin : The Secret to Your Success

c0077970_50b4cb698e5e3

Richard Branson owns around 400 companies. He is one of those guys who seem to mix business with pleasure – without even trying.

What you may not know, is how his most well-known business – Virgin Airways – came about…

Can I share the story with you?

Cool!

Branson was in his mid-twenties when he set up Virgin Airways.

He had already launched a number of successful business ventures under the Virgin brand at that time. Even so, he was still largely unknown and by no means the financial success that he is today.

He was at an airport, on route to meet a young lady in The Virgin Islands for a few days rest and relaxation, when his flight was cancelled, late in the day.

Now most people would have given up and gone home at that stage…

…or perhaps waited at the airport for a day or two – until they could get a flight back out to their destination.

Either way, they wouldn’t have had much fun.

That’s NOT what Richard Branson did.

He chartered a private plane.

Now, I know what you’re thinking…

What does this have to do with me?

The answer is a lot, actually.

Because it’s what Branson did next that matters.

You see, he couldn’t really afford the private plane.

So he took a small blackboard, wrote “Virgin Airlines. $29” on it, went across to a group of people who had also been on the cancelled flight and sold them all seats on the chartered plane – using their money to pay for the plane and ensuring he made his way to the islands to meet his young lady.

The rest as they say is history.

Here’s why this matters to YOU;

There are times in life when you need to think differently.

There are times when you feel stuck or trapped in a situation and just can’t see a way through.

There are times when you need someone with a different outlook to see the route forward – to find a way to get to where you want to go – whatever barriers might appear to be in front of you.

Sometimes, you need more than email support to look at YOUR situation.

Sometimes, you need to offload your ‘problem’ and let someone else help you find the best solution.

That’s why I offer a handful of personalized coaching sessions delivered face-to-face – either by phone, Face Time or via Skype – to help you move forward quickly.

It’s for people who are stuck at the airport and need a new plan, whatever that might be.

So don’t sit around wondering when the next flight might arrive. Take control. Book your call with me today over at the store and let’s find the solution you need.

Are You Kidding Me?!

questionmark-2

Sometimes, not getting what you want actually turns out to be the greatest adventure of your life.

When I started this journey almost 5 years ago, I had just lost the love of my life – baseball – and was completely and utterly devastated. I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with myself and had a complete lack of purpose. But losing sports sent me in a direction I wouldn’t trade anything for. Losing baseball opened up entirely new opportunities for me and sent me down a path of development that has completely changed my life.

Today, I’ve reached a place I never imagined I would ever be. Today, I’m excited to announce that I am launching my professional life coaching practice under AYKME Life Coaching.

AYKME Life Coaching is designed to empower you with the abilities, skills, and vision to create the life you’ve always dreamed of. We’ll also give you the tools you need to map your journey and move forward in the shortest possible time.

Instead of looking at only one specific area of your life and offering “quick fixes,” AYKME invests in you as a whole person – seeking to accelerate your personal growth and cultivate your inner power and potential.

We dive deep into your world; examining your social life, daily habits, closest relationships, home and working environment, physical body, spiritual beliefs and every other area of life that plays a part in your success and happiness.

Ultimately, AYKME is about helping you uncover what you are truly capable of and giving you the opportunity to live a life that has everyone who knows you saying the words, “Are you kidding me?!”

So if you’re ready to step out of the comfort zone and uncover your true potential and start designing the life of your dreams…let’s talk. Maybe you are just curious about what I have to offer (email, phone, 1-on-1 coaching) and want to chat about it? Great! Please email me at aykmecoaching@gmail.com

Thank you all for being part of my journey and starting a new one with me.

The Greatest Lessons

TWO WOLVES DALLAS

5 years ago I sat down on my bed with my face in my hands wondering what the hell I was going to do with my life.

I had just lost my greatest love (baseball) due to injury, my life was an absolute mess, I was plagued by a low self-esteem that prevented me from believing I had any real potential, I lacked inner vision and was completely consumed by my past.

Truly, I was in a dark place.

I was definitely a complete mess.

In fact, I describe that time period of my life as an emotional tornado. Sounds great right?!

I pretty much destroyed everything in my path and most of the good relationships had.

Then, something clicked.

I was being called to write…

Back then, I didn’t know that starting to write my thoughts, feelings, and events going on in my life would yield a lifetime commitment to personal development, the launching of a life coaching practice, a community of over 100,000 people and thousands of blog posts. Back then, I was just trying to gasp for air and felt that writing would be the way to do that.

So long story short…

I wrote Two Wolves as a tribute to the greatest lessons I have learned over the past 5 years of writing.

Honestly though…it’s far more than that. It’s a deep dive into discovering how both light and dark can exist at the same time. The book seeks to explore questions of happiness, sadness, success, failure, and many other topics, including ones that most are too uncomfortable to talk about.

This story, a journey about becoming who you are and taking control of your path, has been an amazing one to write and reflect on. And with over 1,300 downloads…those who have read it have something to say about it as well…

“I could actually feel so many of the emotions in the book. It gave me the encouragement I need to finish the race!”

“The struggle between the dark and light is something every person has to deal with. Thank you for taking the time to write something that I believe will change my perspective of my life.”

“This book came out at the right time for me. One of the darkest times of life . Thank you for such an inspiring book.”

“Truly exceptional! I’ve been battling with my two wolves and this has been superbly inspiring. I know it will be a long journey, and currently my spokes are a bit broken, but as a new father, this certainly goes a long way in helping me become a better man.”

“Every dream could die off due to lost hope, but reading this was the most encouragement I had in a long time.”

“It is truly life-changing, paradigm shifting and life transforming book. Even if you hadn’t been following the project from the very beginning, you can still figure out what the writer is talking about.”

I hope you will join me on this journey through the pages of “Two Wolves” because I am sure there is something in there that will resonate with you, change your perspective, or just help you see a situation in a different light.

That’s how great change and transformation comes about. That’s how miracles happen.

Late Musings

11378450_594298584046209_252920773_nI should be asleep right now…but I can’t see to shut it down tonight. So, I figured, I would dive into writing and see how that works out for me.

There’s a massive shift coming in the next couple of days in terms of my career and the direction of my life. For the past (almost 5 years) I’ve been putting myself in a position to launch my own business as a Professional Life Coach and really have the tools to help people change their lives. I never thought that 2015 would hold this in store for me, but life continues to surprise me in the best of ways. It’s looking like Tuesday I will be launching my business, become an owner, and really pursue my passion and what I know is good for me deep down to my core.

What a moment that will be.

This weekend in the mountains I took some time to really connect to everything around me and shut off my digital world. Lately, I’ve begun to really understand just how important my relationship is with my environment and also how important it is to shut off my digital world from time to time. It’s not that it isn’t real – obviously I use this world to spread as positive of a message as I can. But it can be overwhelming at times and there’s nothing like diving into the deep woods in complete silence to understand the little vibrations and voices going on inside of you.

I feel incredibly lucky to be where I am at right now, in terms of development, and can’t wait to help other people start their own path. Honestly, for years I have been looking for a way to be able to do this and being able to invest my time and my effort into this as a profession could not have worked out better in the coming of a dream. I’ve dedicated my life in service to others and helping them through whatever it may be – stuck in the mud, goal coaching, development, personal issues…anything and everything that may come to mind and have already begun the process with a few people. It is, truthfully, the most fulfilling work I have ever done. I can’t wait to do more.

Everything comes to you at the right time. It may not happen immediately like you want it to…it may need some time to really develop before you are actually ready to take on the challenge. I am sure that building my own business this year is going to be full of challenges but I am ready to rise to it. I am ready to face whatever may come because my mission to help others is stronger than any obstacle that may stand in the way.

It seems that the more I dive into what used to scare me to death, the more interesting my life becomes in terms of what arrives on my front doorstep.

I knew that my 25th year was going to be interesting when I entered into it one year ago. It was just that type of vibe you could pick up on and I really couldn’t ignore it. But when I turned 26 last week…I just had this feeling that everything was going to change. I’ve had that impending feeling for quite some time now…and throughout the weeks it’s getting stronger and stronger and stronger. Maybe that’s a testament to the fact that it’s really there? I think so.

Wednesday is going to be my launch day for everything…my commitment is right there. The beginning of a wild wild ride. The beginning of an incredible journey. I have some ideas of where I want to go with all of this, but I couldn’t tell you what the path looks like in the least bit. I gave up trying to figure out what all of the landscape was going to look like a long time ago. All I know is that I’m loving being here, will love traversing through all of the territory, and love wherever I land. I’m in good hands. I can really feel it.
