Charity auction
Someone posted this in comments:
Have you seen this "fic for haiti" scheme? http://community.livejournal.com/help_haiti/3155.html
I bet lots of us would bid on something from you for the good cause. A missing scene from one of your already-posted stories, for example, would be awesome. Or a fave pairing...
Let's go for it.
Here's how it works. I say:
I will write a short story in one of the following universes, using one of the following pairings, for whichever person bids the most money.

Where where where
Scouring my hard drive for the opening to a work in progress. Digging through folders and sub-folders. Not sure where I moved it to, if I moved it. Did I delete it? Why would I have done that? I delete nothing.
Had planned to spend the afternoon cleaning. Scrubbing the bathroom, doing laundry. Not sure what I can do with the water off. Guess I'll call the landlord again.

Argh
So it started to get cold.
And Kim told me, "Make sure to keep your hot water flowing a little at home so the pipes don't freeze!"
And I was like, hunh.
And Kim told me, "Make sure to leave your faucets dripping so your pipes don't freeze!"
And I was like, oh, right.
And Kim told me, "Don't forget to leave water running!"
So I left the water on a little in a couple of faucets.
You see where this is going, right?
Sigh.
Anyway, I turned the water off and called the landlord. I think that only one pipe ...

"In This Land"
As I type this, I'm waiting for Diamond to get back to me with her okay so I can go ahead and post.
Excuse me while I twiddle my thumbs.
(much thumb-twiddling ensues)
D...I...A...M...O...N...D...
(fuss, whine)
(pause to let the storm puppy handle his business outside)
(poke Diamond)
(sigh, thrash around impatiently)
AHA!

Help me
Okay, I need some schoolin'.
Tell me why The Beatles are great. Tell me why they're important. Tell me why you still listen to them regularly. Tell me what the big deal is.
I'm serious. I want to know. It's one of those things that everyone knows and everyone accepts and I just don't get, and I no longer want to be baffled. I want to get it.
What's the secret?
Edited to add: I realize that it may not be the music. For some groups/performers, the music is secondary to the history, or to the...

WIP
Just looked through my 2010 works in progress. Not my works in progress for the year 2010, but my two thousand ten different half-started stories/novels/sagas.
I managed to shuffle them into categories, and I've decided which one to wrap up first.
Now, by the time I get around to working on any of these works in progress, it'll be 2011 and I'll have decided to work on a different one, anyway. But it was nice to take stock of what's on my hard drive and get a good sense of where I might be abl...

Put on a sweater and get off of my lawn!
Kim's nieces don't have to go to school today. Their mother said that they could stay home because it's cold.
Because it's cold.
These aren't underprivileged children. Their schools are fine, and have heat. It's not like they walk to school; the oldest has a car.
When their mother kept them out of school for a day to take them to go see Harry Potter, I was like, okay, how cool is that? But I draw the line at staying home because it's cold. Especially since they just had however many days of...

ITL
It's up! Thanks for your patience.
Yes, I've sleep-deleted before. I've lost varying amounts of text, with various successful recovery rates. Usually it's not that bad, but I think we can all imagine how terrible it has the potential to be.
It actually snowed here! Should've taken pictures. Finally convinced me to break down and invest in a space heater. Which should be a good long-term decision, after last year's heating bills.

On its way
I'm very sorry, I'll post the ITL update soon. I meant to do it before I passed out, but I kept falling asleep during the final proofread, and I was afraid that I'd accidentally sleep-delete something, so I backed away from the keyboard before I could do real harm.
