April 15th
I'm having someone new do my taxes this year. And I'm filing differently from usual. And the new accountant hasn't gotten back to me about whether or not he filed. And today's the deadline.
I'm starting to think that I should've stuck with the previous guy and the other method.
Anyone have a happy tax-time story to share?

Ads
For the record: Yes, the second set of ads on my site were porn. But they weren't selected entirely at random. They were part of an overall marketing endeavor that wants to win over people, not chase them away. I visited some of those sites myself, just to check, to see where I was theoretically sending y'all.
I encountered zero pop-ups and zero viruses. I don't recall one pop-up, much less dozens or hundreds or thousands. Now, it's fine if you want to avoid porn sites because of the content

Phone
Just got a call. The number was withheld. Someone who knows me well enough to know where I work, but not well enough to know my name. Said outrageous things, then threatened to kill the storm puppy, at which point I hung up.
Kim says that it was a prank call, and not to worry about it or take it seriously.
I don't know.

Here's where it starts.
Then here.
Also here.
This isn't just bad business, bad for authors, and bad for readers. It isn't just ludicrous. It's unnecessary. It's punitive to authors and readers without being beneficial to anyone else. It's hasty, it's reactionary, it's - - well, you read the info at the links above, and see for yourself.
And then contact Amazon, please.
Here's a good way to begin.

Trigger warning
Kim said that Honey showed up with a black eye today. No euphemisms: Her boyfriend punched her in the face. We've known for months that her boyfriend's controlling, and he started pushing her around a couple of months into their relationship. Now he's hit(ting) her.
(I say "pushing her around" because that's how Kim phrased it.)
Kim says, and I agree, that there's not much coincidence in the fact that the violence has escalated - - no euphemisms: that he's begun to hit her - - just as Honey's b

Saturday morning
When you tell someone, "Let's meet at 11 am instead of 9:30 am tomorrow," and that person reacts with great joy at the prospect of a later meeting, do not then text the person, many hours later, after midnight, with the news that it'll be at 9:30 anyway, because [person I've never even heard of:] can't make it at 11.
