Corinne's Submission Calls

June 13th, 2013

Permission granted to foward - please feel free to share!

Corinne DeMaagd - Content & Acquisitions Editor at Lyrical PressYippee, it’s June! I love this time of year – the beginning of summer – warm evenings with a glass of wine on the front porch after the kids are asleep, my pup at my feet, the smell of lilac and storms. Tired, but a good tired, after fitting as much as possible into one summer day.

Where I am in the north, our twilight will stretch until 10:30pm around the summer solstice. My enjoyment for this time of year is deeply rooted from when I was a wee thing. My mum allowed us to play outside until the street lights came on, so you can imagine my anticipation and thrill of long June nights.
June is the time for love. Flowers are blooming, birds are singing, sunset skies and stargazing. Everyone is feeling a little frisky after a long winter in hibernation. Summer romance is on the horizon – the possibilities exciting.

Even if none of the below fit your manuscript, I am still happy to take a look, or you can submit it directly to the Lyrical Editorial team at: https://lyricalpress.submittable.com/...
First Days – I use this term a lot, and I’m not sure if I’ve made it up or heard it  somewhere else. I’m looking for stories that really focus on the passion and excitement of falling in love: the butterflies, the wonderment and confusion. The time in life that rarely can be repeated – all the great emotion and buzz that resonates in your gut when you know something is building, something inescapable, something that will change your life.Sports – I’d love to see sport involved in a romance – from football to fencing, soccer to swimming, rodeo to rugby. Bring on your sexy athletes and make ‘em sweat it out on the field or in the bedroom.Travel – I’m partial to stories set in Scotland, Ireland, England and Australia whether they are contemporary, historical, paranormal or fantasy, but any exotic destination will do. Or a good “on the road” story full of discovery and growth.Keep in mind, I am always on the lookout for the following genres: Contemporary (from sweet to sexy), Historical, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, and anything that falls under the Lyrical Lines: Entice, Embrace, Once Upon and especially Hometown Heroes – I have a soft spot for men in uniform.

So, I’m looking for some Summer Lovin’ – stories with great sexual tension, action and adventure – from sweet to steamy. I look forward to hearing from you. Go on – sweeten my summer! corinnedemaagd@lyricalpress.com

Sundae With Nuts - Cristal Ryder

June 9th, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

Without further ado, I am most pleased to introduce the lovely and talented (and very brave!) CRISTAL RYDER!
Sundae with the Nut Cristal RyderI’m a nut! Whee! Thanks for asking me to join rest of you nuts, Cd. This was fun and I’d love to come back sometime.
1.Who is your fantasy male or female? Or both?Michael Biehn – think Kyle Reese, Terminator. But there are lots of fantasy folk ;)
2.What vehicle, abode, beach, construction site or other locale did you lose your virginity. It was so long ago, I can barely remember...maybe a cornfield? Oh wait! The back of a 55 Chevy at a drive in – and no it wasn’t in the 50’s, I’m a 70’s teen.
3.Do you believe in love at first sight?Nope even though I am a hopeless romantic. I believe in LUST at first sigh, yep.
4.If you could play a board game during sex, what would it be?Twister with oiled up bodies!
5.Any special “toys” you’d like to give mention to for their outstanding achievements?bzzzzzzzz
6.Most romantic or sexiest destination out there.Any warm turquoise tropical lagoon with powdery white sand beaches with palm trees swaying in the South Pacific.
And last but now least.
10. Favorite ice cream flavor.Caramel snapping turtle.
Thanks for being a Nut, Cristal! I found this comment of yours at the bottom of your questionnaire and I'm wondering if you would like to add to your experience at all? Cristal: "whoa, a 55 chev with curtains"  :)
Do you remember the color and fabric? Was it his or your Chevy? This is very important information! Did it have a fold out seat in the back? Do you remember what movie you "watched"? LOL. There is something very American about losing our V in an American-made vehicle, strategically parked...somewhere...other than our folks driveway. I could never do a cornfield. As much of a country girl as I am, after I saw Children of the Corn and spranged my ankle running the feck out of one, I could never EVER find romance in the bed of some husks.

Please give it up for the lovely Miss Cristal and check out her latest release, ELEMENTAL HEAT. OMG, does it look hot! And I LOVE cowboys!

June 2nd, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

Without further ado, I am most pleased to introduce the lovely and talented (and very brave!) Ann B. Harrison!
Sundae with the Nut Ann B. HarrisonFavorite knickers: cotton, lace, silk or errr…leather?Cotton, comfort before all else
Who is your fantasy male or female? Or both?Jamie Fraser in a kilt of course
Do you believe in love at first sight?Of course, I write romance
If you could play a board game during sex, what would it be?That would be the last thing I would be thinking of.
Most romantic or sexiest destination out there.White sand, blue water and nobody in sight.
And last but now least.
Favorite ice cream flavor.Hokey Pokey
Thanks for being a Nut, Ann! I am a big fan of a man in a kilt myself. Hot! And I like her twist on a common romantic destination - "nobody in sight" being key. Well, except maybe for Jamie Frasier.

Check out Miss Ann's most recent release, OUTBACK GOLD. Ann is known for her steamy rural romances set in Queensland, and I know her latest will not disappoint!

Dream Writing Nook

May 30th, 2013

Dream Writing NookOh - I want this! My dream writer's nook once we get some property. This started out as a 12 x 12 shed. They added a porch, salvaged cottage windows and split shingle roof.  Might need some help with the flowers though. I have such a green thumb. Ugh.

Sundae with Nuts - Charlotte McClain

May 26th, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

Without further ado, I am most pleased to introduce the lovely and talented (and very brave!) Charlotte McClain!
Sundae with the Nut Charlotte McClain1. Favorite knickers: cotton, lace, silk or errr…leather?Cotton. I’m a traditionalist that way.
2. Who is your fantasy male or female? Or both?It used to be Han Solo, but I’m going through a Ronan Dex (Stargate: Atlantis) period and I’d take Worf from Star Trek any day.
3. What language, when heard spoken, makes you frisky. (like Jamie Lee Curtis in A Fish called Wanda)Sadly, none, but Basque makes me a little crazy.
4. What vehicle, abode, beach, construction site or other locale did you lose your virginity. My college dorm room.
5. Do you believe in love at first sight?Absolutely.
6. If you could play a board game during sex, what would it be?Monopoly. I can think of all kinds of new ways to pay rent.
7. Any special “toys” you’d like to give mention to for their outstanding achievements?Nope.
8. I *heart* Peter Cetera. What song immediately swoops you back to your “first days” of falling in love?I have a playlist 43 songs long (I need to do some updating, there’s some missing.) Of that list probably the two that make me catch my breath most often are No Ordinary Love by Sade and If You Could Only See by Tonic. I would add Def Leppard’s Move With Me Slowly, but it’s a rare track.
9. Most romantic or sexiest destination out there. The Maldives. You have to get a bungalow over the water because you can feel the tide coming in when you’re lying in bed.
And last but now least.
10. Favorite ice cream flavor.Mint chocolate chip

Thanks for being a Nut, Charlotte! I've noticed the ol' college dorm room is a hot spot for losing the V. It brings a whole new meaning to "give it the ol' college try." And some are saying these days that college doesn't prepare you for the real world. Pfft! Nonsense! Was it romantic, Miss Charlotte? Or a clandestine effort under the covers? Love it! And I most assuredly agree with Hans Solo. He is one in a million.
Best love scene ever just before Hans is frozen in carbonite.
Princess Leia: "I love you."
Hans Solo: "I know."
That's it! If I could only replicate that somehow in one of my romance books! I'm not a Trekky so must look up Worf. Charlotte, I have to say, if the pure sexiness of his name is anything to go by, I'm sure he is one hot...errr...YEP.

Check out Miss Charlotte's most recent release by Lyrical Press. Such a unique premise for a romance - I'm very much intrigued!

Sundae with Nuts - Liza O'Conner

March 19th, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

Without further ado, I am most pleased to introduce the lovely and talented (and very brave!) Liza O'Conner!
Sundae with the Nut Liza O'ConnerGmail wanted to save your readers from having to read my nutty replies to your silly questions by refusing to give them to me. But I’ve thwarted gmail.
However, the surgeon general says I must attach the following warning.Warning: Reading this may cause loss of brain cells.
Good new! Scientists tested my answers on rats and determined if I don’t answer more than three questions, you should be safe. So here they are:
1.     What language when spoken makes your frisky?German. It’s so sexy when everything sounds like they’re yelling at you.Just Kidding. I prefer Spanish, spoken by a sexy Spaniard. That way, even when they truly are yelling at you, it still sounds romantic.
2.     If you could play a game while being frisky, what would it be?I considered strip poker to move along the disrobing, but honestly, it could take me half the evening for my partner to lose any clothes. So I think I’m be better off  playing Naked Twister. I think that would move matters along nicely.
3.     Any frisky toys you’d like to nominate for exceptional achievement?Yes, I would like to nominate my purple rabbit. He’s disease free, has excellent rotation, tantalizing vibrations, and is never too drunk to play.Sometimes he gets a little run down, but pop a few new batteries in and he’s ready to rumble. Best yet, he never calls me by the wrong name…in fact, he doesn’t talk. But sometimes, when I’m feeling insecure, I do wonder if he truly loves me. But then he starts vibrating and I realize it doesn’t matter.

To ensure your readers will survive reading this, I have to stop talking now.
* * * *
Thank you Liza for being a Nut! Liza has forged her own path for her Nutty Day which I can totally appreciate. I've always said that my guests can stray, deviate or otherwise write whatever they like when they are a Nut. It is their day to have fun! And I think I may change my "horny" question to "frisky" as Liza has done. It seems to connote more class than the word "horny", which reminds me of that horrible 80s tune, "Oh, Me so Horny". Who the hell performed that again?

Sundae with Nuts - M.Q. Barber

May 12th, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

Without further ado, I am most pleased to introduce the lovely and talented (and very brave!) M.Q. Barber!

Sundae with the Nut M.Q. Barber1. Favorite knickers: cotton, lace, silk or errr…leather?
Entirely dependent upon my plans for the day – but never lace. I’m not a lace kind of gal.
2. Who is your fantasy male or female? Or both?
James McAvoy, in the library, with Keira Knightley – because before Atonement makes me cry my eyes out, it’s so many flavors of yummy.
3. What language, when heard spoken, makes you horny? (like Jamie Lee Curtis in A Fish called Wanda)
Say the right words, and standard American English will do just fine.

4. In what vehicle, abode, beach, construction site or other locale did you lose your virginity?
A college dorm room. Shhh, don’t tell my RA!
5. Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes and no. I also believe it’s possible to believe two contradictory things at once.
6. If you could play a board game during sex, what would it be?
Clue, because if there’s not a little death, you’re probably not doing it right.
7. Any special “toys” you’d like to give mention to for their outstanding achievements?
Well, I don’t like to name names… Wait, I mean, I obviously don’t name my toys… Wait, wait, I mean I obviously don’t have any toys… Uh, what was the question again? *blink*
8. I *heart* Peter Cetera. What song immediately swoops you back to your “first days” of falling in love?

That’s a tough one! The soundtrack to my life at the time was full of things like Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails and Radiohead, and it’s a bit odd to say “Where Did You Sleep Last Night” or “Closer” or “Creep” are falling-in-love songs, because they really aren’t. But for a song I think captures that giddy innocence of falling in love, I’ll say “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer.
9. Most romantic or sexiest destination out there.

Snug log cabin. Roaring fire. Snow falling outside. Nuff said. :-)
And last but now least.
10. Favorite ice cream flavor.
I can’t believe you’d ask such a personal question. Honestly, what is this world coming to? It’s chocolate chip cookie dough, Miss Nosy.

Thanks for being a Nut, M.Q.! I have to be honest and tell everyone I peeked at her answers when she first sent them --and pissed meself laughing. Of course, that's not as hard to do anymore after two natural labors (God, I really should have done my floor exercises like the nurse suggested), but her answers sure are damn funny, especially the last one. After that, #5 and #7 are my favorites, and I'm still trying to figure out #6. Enlighten us Miss M.Q.! And ooohhh, James McAvoy, I fancy me a nice Scotsman.
Please check out M.Q. Barber and her July release from Lyrical Press, Playing the Game.

Love Where You Roam Book 2

May 9th, 2013

A Stone's ThrowBook 2 of the Love Where You Roam series has found a home at Lyrical Press. Not only am I totally chuffed that A STONE'S THROW has been contracted, but very happy to be working with Lyrical Press again.

New blurb (work in progress)
A little bit lost in life, Lizzy (Elizabet MacDonald) takes off to do some backpacking around Europe, her final destination, the wee town of Bridge of Allan, Scotland, where begins her search for her Scottish heritage. There she meets the elusive and stoic, Hamish Skene, architect and mountaineer who knows exactly the direction he wants to go. Until he meets the fun-loving Lizzy.

The two of them couldn't be different. A roughened laid-back Aussie jillaroo and a sophisticated driven architect? But they realize each other's qualities are ones they admire, ones they even envy. Together they are better than apart. On the summit of a Highland munro in Scotland, they find what they need in life is each other. With a little prodding from The Green Lady of the Queen's Hotel, of course.
