Sundae With Nuts - Review of Playing the Game by M.Q. Barber

December 15th 2013

One of my Nuts wasn't able to make it today. Must be the Christmas season caught up to her and it was all too much to do. Sure, I totally understand as I always overwhelm myself this time of the year, too. Because it's so special, I don't dare make it any less than it deserves, mostly for my young boys.

SO, that I can still offer everyone entertainment on Sundaes, I will put up a review for any Sunday lacking a Nut. I'm sure there won't be many, or at least I hope not. So far, it's been a hit! And there are only better things to come in 2014.

So without further ado...
Review of Playing the Game by M.Q. Barber

I was first introduced to Alice, Henry and Jay outside of Playing the Game. I read Three-Way Tie in the First Frost Anthology (Lyrical Press) that hosted the Neighborly Affection short, and was intrigued immediately. The three individuals represented so strongly to me, their lifestyle so foreign yet enticing, that I jumped at the chance to invest myself further into their story.

Playing the Game is about an intelligent and strong young woman who enters into the Dom/sub lifestyle, enamoured by the two lovely and sexy men who live across the hall in her apartment building. And with good reason. Henry and Jay are not only amazing lovers, but gentleman, of which you find too little these days. As I read the book, I kept thinking -- sweet divine, I should have tried a bit more before I was married. :-) (And maybe still can...hmm..) If I wasn't now, I swear, I'd jump on a chance like this in a milisecond. Like I said, Alice is a smart gal.

The story is full of sexuality and sensuality both. And there is a difference, to be sure, of which Miss M.Q. has been clever enough to weave into a brilliant mix of storytelling that is just as much about the characters as it is about the Game. So much so, that the essence of this story goes far beyond the Dom/sub relationship and delves into who we are individuals, what we truly desire, what we believe in and where we find love.
I wanted to know -- who are they? What has brought them to this point? What will happen? How can this go on? Miss Barber excells in the technique of sublety, not giving too much away, yet offering glimpses that there is so much more to this story. I can't wait for the next book of the series. I am completely dedicated at this point -- to their past, their present and future - Alice, Henry and Jay, who they are and what they will be--together, or apart.

If you have never read a Dom/sub story before, please let Playing the Game be your initiate. Miss M.Q. conveys the dynamics, the passion, the trust and intensity with such honesty and warmth that it will hold your heart.

One last thing: I will never, EVER look at a pistachio the same way again. :-) Well done, Miss M.Q. I thoroughly enjoyed Playing the Game. 5 Cherries

Sundae With Nuts - Calisa Rhose

December 8th, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

Without further ado, I am most pleased to introduce the lovely and talented (and very brave!) Calisa Rhose!

Sundae with the Nut Calisa Rhose1.Favorite knickers: cotton, lace, silk or errr…leather?silk, but cotton is more friendly to horse riding.
2.Who is your fantasy male or female? Or both?both? Not sure what you want here so I'll say Paul Walker and Sandra Bullock.(Paul's the cowboy inspiration for my first ever submitted ms. :D)

3.What language, when heard spoken, makes you frisky? (like Jamie Lee Curtis in A Fish called Wanda)Is Southern drawl a language?
4.Do you believe in love at first sight?Absolutely. Though I know it's not for everyone, it worked for my husband and me. :)
5.If you could play a board game during sex, what would it be?If you're playing board games during, then you're doing something wrong honey!
6.Any special “toys” you’d like to give mention to for their outstanding achievements? Are horses considered toys? We do love our babies. Well, Andee and I do. Mitch prefers his trucks.

7.I *heart* Peter Cetera. What song immediately swoops you back to your “first days” of falling in love?REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpOULjyy-n8
8.Most romantic or sexiest destination out there.Anywhere with Mitch and no tv. lol
And last but now least.
9. Favorite ice cream flavor.Black Walnut!
* * * *
Girlfriend! Of course Southern Drawl is a language. I'm a True Northerner and when I go down south I haven't a clue what ya'll are saying. Except ya'll. I got that one. And Paul Walker...RIP...what an amazing man. It's funny how life works. He had the looks, the charm, the talent, but his time was short on this earth. And I wonder why? Not to get too deep, but don't you wonder...why?
And I think I need to change that question #5 - not to board games, but any game! I suppose I am inspired by a certain book that I am reading at the moment, but there is definitely room to play during the romp. That's all I'm sayin'.
And yes, Miss Calisa, horses count big time. At least in my book. I hope to have a couple myself within a year or so (if I win the lottery or we sell our house in Australia). I am truly a cowgirl at heart, and I believe you are too. Now giddyup girl, and take that holiday with Mitch as I know you need it! And no TV? Amen to that. Some days I feel like pulling the plug on everything - TV, computer, mobile phone, cable, home phone, playstation. All of it. Bye-bye.
Miss Calisa is not only a talented author but a wonderful colleage and editor. Her book, Risk Factors, is definitely one that you want to add to your TBR list. Straight away! Now, giddyup! (Who remembers Kramer saying that in Seinfeld?)

Sundae With Nuts - Jemima (Jem) George

December 1st, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

This week we have another special edition. Miss Jemima George from Cooking Up Love (Gemma Brocato) has agreed to brave our Nutty questions. A special welcome to Miss Jem!

Sundae with the Nut Jem from Cooking Up Love1. Favorite knickers: cotton, lace, silk or errr…leather? I prefer lace, but I like it colorful.
2. Who is your fantasy male or female? Or both?I’ve had a bit of thing for Karl Urban lately, but let’s keep that between us girls, please.

3. What language, when heard spoken, makes you frisky? (like Jamie Lee Curtis in A Fish called Wanda)Italian. There is something about the musicality and fluidity of that language that makes me shiver. Jack knows the language (don’t ask why) and will occasionally whisper it to me when we’re around his family. That’s a little embarrassing. For him when I drag his butt out of the room. Serves him right, don’t you think?
4. What vehicle, abode, beach, construction site or other locale did you lose your virginity. In my boyfriend’s (at the time) dad’s panel truck. You know, the kind with no windows? It was horrible. Small, dark and confining. My claustrophobia kicked in before either of us…er, got where we were going.
5. Do you believe in love at first sight? Not really. But I have a strong belief in chemical reactions and think that love can ‘explode’ on you very unexpectedly. I guess explode isn’t really the right word. But I can’t think of a better one. I’m a chef, not a writer.
6. If you could play a board game during sex, what would it be?Strip monopoly. You pay for properties with your clothes. I’ve gotten fairly creative with financing. What? You’ve never played? You have no idea what you’re missing.
7. Any special “toys” you’d like to give mention to for their outstanding achievements? Not really. But my 5 year-old niece told me she’d discovered one of her mother’s toys. Hoo, boy! That night was memorable, for a lot of reasons.
8. I *heart* Peter Cetera. What song immediately swoops you back to your “first days” of falling in love?Strawberry Swing by Coldplay. It’s such a happy, hopeful song. Every day when you’re falling in love is a perfect day.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isH1yy8I_dc
9. Most romantic or sexiest destination out there.Blue Bay, in Maritius. It’s a slice of tropical heaven here on earth.
10. I wanted to be a helicopter pilot and a cowgirl when I grew up (still do). What did you want to grow up to be when you were a little girl?I used to think I wanted to be a concert pianist. I took lessons for a long time. Until my teacher, whom I used to pay with cakes and cookies I made, told me to focus on a career as a chef. That was a piece of good advice.
And last but not least
11. Favorite ice cream flavor.I love a store brand I used to get called Death By Chocolate. What a way to go!
* * * *It has been such a pleasure to host Miss Jem, and by association, by Gemma Brocato, this Thanksgiving weekend, and how appropriate when Tday is all about the cooking. As Miss Gemma already knows, I am personally a disaster in the kitchen, my culinary talents almost non-existent, but I still over indulged! I'm still feeling the effects and still eating the leftovers.
For some reason, I don't reckong Miss Jem being a leftover kind of girl? Are you? And Strawberry Swing is an awesome song! Different choice but I'm a huge Coldplay fan. I like how even your fav song has food included. I can tell you are one passionate gal. And did you know Mr. Urban is a New Zealander? Yep, and Kiwis are hot fellas :-)
To hear Miss Jemima (Jem) George's full story, have a read of Cooking Up Love by Gemma Brocato. You will only fall more in love with this lovely lady.

Sundae With Nuts - Lassier, Senna, Brendon & Gar from Ghost Lover

November 24th, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

This week we have a special edition. I'm hosting the main cast of characters from Liza O'Connor's GHOST LOVER.
Sundae with the Nutty cast from Ghost Lover - Lassier, Senna, Brendon and GarLiza has already answered these questions, so she’s sending the characters from her upcoming book, Ghost Lover to answer them. Oh dear! I had no idea she’d send so many of you. Well, I must insist only one of you answer each question. Otherwise, we will be here all day.
1.Favorite knickers: cotton, lace, silk or errr…leather?

Lassier: Back in the 15th century, when I moved to France to paint and enjoy the ladies, I wore nothing beneath my tunics that would interfere with my pleasure. Now that I’m a ghost, I only create the illusion of the outer layer of clothing which disappears once a lady proves willing.
2. Senna, who is your fantasy male?

Senna: That would be Lassier. He’s sexy and a ghost. That makes him a real fantasy, because by all that is rational, he shouldn’t be able to make love to women now, but he can. He helped me through a tough time when I thought Gar hated me. Without Lassier, I would have left and gone back to the States.

3.What language, when heard spoken, makes you frisky?

Brendon: All of them. I can say ‘let’s do it’ in 53 languages.
4.What vehicle, abode, beach, construction site or other locale did you lose your virginity? *All stare at Senna**Senna blushes*  Why do I have to answer this question? Brendon: Because we can’t remember ours.Gar: Leave Senna alone. She doesn’t wish to speak of this debacle, so let it be.Lassier: Oh all right, I lost my virginity to my young nanny in the nursery of the castle.
CD: Guys, I said one person could comment per questions. Do this again and you lose a question.5. Do you believe in love at first sight? Brendon: Not until Senna. I fell in love with her at first site.Senna: Nonsense! You broke my window and crawled into my room in the middle of the night. Then I hit you with my stubby broom. There was no love at first sight. You were caterwauling like a cat, which is why I stopped hitting you. I like cats.Brendon: Yeah, you weren’t exactly friendly that night. But I meant before that.  I fell in love with you when I saw you on the street and followed you home. Determined to know you, I broke into your home.
CD: Because you two insist upon talking on the same question, you’ve lost another a question. It’s the only way I’m going to keep this interview at a reasonable length.7.Any special “toys” you’d like to give mention to for their outstanding achievements? Brendon: Cat, Gar’s fiance, can weld a whip like a master.Gar: Catlain is NOT my fiance or girlfriend. She’s a promising artist I rescued from a serious situation in the state. Lassier, back me up.Lassier: Gar has no interest in Cat. If not for her striking similarities to Senna, he probably wouldn’t have rescued her at all.Senna: Cat doesn’t look like me.Lassier: without makeup and hair dye she does.

Brendon: And she’s got the best touch with a whip you’ll ever experience. The Dom’s at Madame Eve’s House of Pain have nothing on her.
CD: Interesting, but still costing you yet another question. Now the next question, I want Gar to answer since he has yet to reply to any questions.9.Most romantic or sexiest destination out there.

Gar: We have a villa on the side of a large hill, overlooking the ocean, in Greece. I would like to take…I think it’s a very romantic spot, and some day I hope to take the love of my life there. *glances at Senna*Senna: *Blushes* I have always loved New Zealand and would like to take the love of my life there….but Greece sounds lovely as well.Lassier: I’d return to France. The women there are more open to free love.Brendon: Any place with naked women suits me.
CD: I give up, you can all answer this last question.10.Favorite ice cream flavor.  Lassier: Can’t say. I’ve never ate it back in the 15th century.Senna: Me either—in this century, of course.Gar: Why not?Senna: Our meals were simple at the orphanage. The nuns did not believe in giving us high expectations that life would be pleasant for us.Brendon: *grips her hand* Don’t worry. Once we get home, we’ll go to an ice cream parlor and you may try every flavor they have. And it won’t cost a thing. They offer free samples.Senna: All right. But be warned, I intend to offer to pay for all those free samples.Gar *frowns*  I suspect Cat will wish to go with you, so I better come as well to ensure no one gets into troubleSenna: What do you think I might do?Gar: *smiles* Not you. I’m worried about Cat and Brendon. Senna: *Laughs softly* Oh. Yes, I would appreciate your assistance in keeping them out of trouble.

CD: I see what you mean about having to keep an eye on them. Senna, isn’t Brendon YOUR fiance?Senna: *shrugged* I told him up front I would never have sex with him, so he’s free to ‘shag’ anyone who wants him, as long as it’s not me.
CD: This is the strangest Ménage de cinq I’ve ever seen. Senna: Just read the book. It will all make sense then.
* * * *And it does! As I've already had the pleasure of  reading Ghost Lover and I can tell you, it's a very enjoyable read. The pictures really bring it to life here and I love the portrait of Gar. I could fall in love with him. A very talented lady Miss Liza! I laughed out loud to Brendon's answer to #3. Ghost Lover will be out in just over a week, so hook up with Liza O'Connor to make sure you don't miss it.

November 17th, 2013

Welcome to another saucy episode of SUNDAE WITH NUTS where I have asked my fellow authors to join me for the day for a bit of fun and a laugh. We are romance writers after all!

Without further ado, I am most pleased to introduce the lovely and talented (and very brave!) Kristina Knight!

2. Who is your fantasy male or female? Or both? – male…with a cowboy hat

3. What language, when heard spoken, makes you frisky? (like Jamie Lee Curtis in A Fish called Wanda) – Gaelic…but I'll settle for an Irish accent.
4. What vehicle, abode, beach, construction site or other locale did you lose your virginity. – lol! I'm just going to keep that one to myself.
5. Do you believe in love at first sight? – Yes. And I highly recommend it.
6.If you could play a board game during sex, what would it be? – Twister! Okay, technically a floor game…but it would be fun.
7.I *heart* Peter Cetera. What song immediately swoops you back to your “first days” of falling in love? – Poison – Every Rose Has It's Thorn, baby.
LISTEN TO IT HERE
8.Most romantic or sexiest destination out there. – A beach with a comfy cabana and a warm breeze blowing…
9.Who was your first crush or kiss? – first crush: Uncle Jesse (Full House)
10. If you become a best-selling author and sell your movie rights, what will be the first thing you do when you hear? Other than contact Cd Brennan and offer to share with her, of course. – scream. Run to RadioMan's office to tell him. Start another project!
11. I wanted to be a helicopter pilot and a cowgirl when I grew up (still do). What did you want to grow up to be when you were a little girl? – I wanted to be a Musketeer and a dancer and prospector.

I've been a bit long-winded in my comments of late, so I'll keep it short and sweet this week, just like Miss Kristina's answers. I'm listening to Posion loud and clear as I type this. God, I haven't heard this song in donkey's years (whatever that means). My big hair band days only lasted a year or so, but my hormones must have been burning, because sweet divine, if this song still doesn't do it for me. Poison. Stadium rock. Tight pants that show their schlongs, leaving nothing to the imagination. In the video above, I love the roadies and the one fella chewing a ciggie while he plays guitar. Are those days long gone?
First crush - Uncle Jesse? Really? Well I suppose John Stamos was Mr. Hottie back then. Do you like the pic I chose for you for you fantasy male. He's all yours! At least he looks like he can ride :-)
Check out Kristina Knight's release, Mr. Right Now, a smattering of sass, sex and a heaping happily ever after. This contemporary romance looks hot and a bunch of fun!
