Gail Pallotta and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Jesse's Hope, by Jennifer Hallmark, is:
tumsec@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Gail Pallotta, author of the teen sports mystery, Stopped Cold (Prism Imprint of Pelican Book Group, May 2019).

Gail has published five books, poems, short stories, and several hundred articles. Some of her articles appear in anthologies while two are in museums.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I have lots of good southern recipes handed down from my grandmother. There’s no telling how old some of them are, if they came from her mother, grandmother, etc.
How fun. I love the legacy aspect of that.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Stopped Cold.

Things aren’t what they seem in peaceful Mistville, North Carolina. Margaret McWhorter enjoys a laid-back Freshman year in high school swimming and hanging out with friends. Suddenly tragedy strikes when her brother, Sean, suffers a stroke from taking steroids. Now he’s lying unconscious in a hospital, and anger drives Margaret to make the criminals pay. Even the cop on the case can't stop her from investigating.
Looking for justice, she convinces two friends, Jimmy and Emily, to join her in a quest through a twisted, drug-filled sub-culture deep in the woods behind the school. Time and again they walk a treacherous path, and come face-to-face with danger. All the while Margaret really wants to cure Sean, heal the hate inside, and open her heart to love.
What is it about Margaret that will make your readers care about her?
Just the same as most teens, Margaret must deal with school and extra-curricular activities as she does the best she can to be a good daughter, sister and friend, but she’s doing it under extreme stress. There’s so much to like and admire about her. She takes it upon herself to identify the drug dealers who sold her brother steroids to win in swimming to uphold her father’s tradition of McWhorter winners. Even though her heart’s breaking, she pushes herself to visit Sean in the hospital. She misses her mother, but tries to help her through this sorrowful time by inviting her to come to the hospital chapel. She even manages to have fun with Emily and Jimmy.
What novel would you like to see brought to film?
City of Angels [image error] by Tracie Peterson and James Scott Bell.
Tagline: The courtrooms of 1903 Los Angeles are a man’s world––until Kit Shannon arrives.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Mind Games [image error] by Nancy Mehl. I couldn’t put this book down. There’s a logical reason why several people are the killer, or UNSUB, as he’s called in the book. Just as I was convinced one guy did it, I read why it was another suspect instead. The book’s filled with twists, emotion and suspense that kept me devouring page after page. The characters are so fascinating and real, I felt as though I knew them, and I was on the case with them.
What are you working on now?
A romantic suspense.

Jennifer Hallmark and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of North by Starlight, by Diane and David Munson, is:
littleronm@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Jennifer Hallmark, author of the contemporary southern novel, Jessie’s Hope (Firefly Southern Fiction, June 2019).

Jennifer sold her first novel to Firefly Southern fiction (an imprint of Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas) with a release date of June 2019. She also signed with Cyle Young of the Hartline Literary Agency. Jennifer sends out a monthly newsletter, which you can subscribe to here.
Jennifer and her husband, Danny, have spent their married life in Alabama and have a basset hound, Max. When she isn't babysitting or gardening, you can find her at her desk writing fiction or working on one of her two blogs. She also loves reading detective fiction from the Golden Age and viewing movies like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. Sometimes you can even catch her watching American Ninja Warrior.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
For twenty years, my husband and I owned two different chicken farms and raised more than a million chickens.
Yikes. That doesn't sound like a small undertaking!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Jessie's Hope.

Her grandparents, who’ve raised her, are struggling to find the resources to provide her with a wedding and a dress that they think will make up for the past.
While planning for her wedding in the middle of tornado season, Jessie discovers weather isn’t the only obstacle to living happily ever after. What happens when a wedding, an absent father, and weather collide?
What is it about Jessie that will make your readers care about her?
Her bravery and unselfishness. Jessie never gives up, though at times she is tempted. She also struggles with worry and insecurity like many of us do.
Yes, it sounds like she has to overcome many obstacles, even as a child. That can lead to either strong or weak character, so for her to exhibit bravery and unselfishness is inspiring.
What novel would you like to see brought to film?
My favorite novel, Rooms , by James L. Rubart. The tagline is “What would you find if you walked into the rooms of your soul?” Doesn’t that sound like the makings of a great movie?
Definitely. Jim always comes up with such interesting ideas for his novels!
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
To Kill a Mockingbird . A classic Southern fiction novel, the story grips you from page one and doesn’t let go. I really enjoyed it.
I agree. Such an excellent book and noble character, despite the controversy stirred with Go Set a Watchman.
What are you working on now?
I’m editing the second book in the series after Jessie’s Hope. The story is about the antagonist in book one, Angeline Springer. She a completely different personality type than Jessie and I’m having a lot of fun writing her character.

Diane and David Munson and Free Books!

Before we talk with today's authors, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Julia, by Vickie McDonough, is:
3dcatoe.fdjtc@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelists Diane and David Munson, authors of the inspirational romantic suspense novel, North by Starlight (Micah House Media, Nov/2018), a family-friendly Christian suspense with “too much suspense for a romantic Hallmark movie” and “too much romance for a Hallmark cozy mystery.”

Besides prosecuting felons, Diane has practiced general law and was appointed by President Reagan’s Attorney General to head a department in the Justice Department.

David served as an investigator for the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations where he worked on national security issues.
Each of their eleven thrillers stand alone; however, the two protagonists do move from book to book. Diane and David’s eleven novels include the bestselling Joshua Covenant, The Looming Storm, and North by Starlight.
The Munsons live within a gated community in an undisclosed location, and are hard at work on their next thriller.
Okay, I have to say, you two are probably the coolest, most intriguing authors I've featured so far.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
Both of us have ridden elephants, Diane in a political parade, and David in Thailand.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of North By Starlight.

When she races to defeat the claim of the mystery relative, who is a daughter adopted by Jordan’s aunt Rosalyn, Maddie makes a shocking discovery. Her ex-boyfriend Stewart is the opposing counsel, who she must challenge in court.
Stewart is eager to represent the interloper and will stop at nothing to destroy Maddie’s case. She sharpens her legal skills to outwit Stewart and a greedy mining enterprise bent on changing Starlight forever. While her faith is renewed as she and Jordan form a powerful alliance against geologist Trevor Kirk, the ensuing legal battle leaves her emotionally vulnerable.
In the end, will Maddie save Starlight or will Starlight save Maddie?
What is it about Maddie that will make your readers care about her?
As the book begins, Maddie is living and working in D.C., and has a wrong focus in her life, putting her trust in her legal career and an unworthy fiancé. Readers will witness Maddie’s transformation as she temporarily moves to the beautiful Green mountains of Vermont during the Christmas season, where she is influenced by God’s creation in the majestic mountains as well as the friendship and care of the local villagers.
As a result of their kindness to her, Maddie realizes she has ignored her parents and reaches out to them with a deeper love. Her faith walk is renewed and she grows to understand the values of an honorable man as she allows herself to have romantic feelings again.
What novel would you like to see brought to film?
The two series written by Brock and Bodie Theone, entitled The Zion Covenant (9 books about dangerous times leading up to WWII) and The Zion Chronicles , (5 books revealing the events of Israel’s statehood in 1948) are excellent and would make a fabulous mini-series from a Christian perspective.
I love that idea.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The Search by Grace Livingston Hill tells the compelling story of childhood friends and how their lives and faith are changed by the soldier’s enlistment in WWI. Diane has read all of Grace’s 100+ inspirational romances, which are filled with Believers in Jesus living out their faith in tumultuous challenges. This one truly inspires us to live strong and boldly during difficult times.
What are you working on now?
We are writing our twelfth thriller, which promises to be contemporary and exciting, but beyond that, it is embargoed.
I have so much respect for people who are able to work well on collaborative projects, especially couples!

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
How has the demise of brick and mortar bookstores changed the way you obtain Christian books and greeting cards? Besides good blogs, where do you learn of the best books for your taste?
Great question. Thank you, Diane and David for visiting and telling us about yourself and your novel. Readers, Diane and David have offered to give away a free copy of their book. Vickie McDonough and Free Books!

Before we talk with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of The Pages of Her Life, by James L. Rubart, is:
mariebowers43@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's revisit novelist Vickie McDonough, author of the Christian historical romance, Julia (Maverick Press, May, 2019).

Vickie’s books have won numerous awards including the Booksellers Best and the Inspirational Choice awards.
When she’s not writing, Vickie enjoys reading, doing stained glass projects, gardening watching movies, and traveling.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Julia.

When a man is thrown from a horse, Julia is out riding her mare and rushes to help. Although Taylor Marshall is a Confederate, he and Julia quickly become friends. By the time her father realizes it, Julia has lost her heart to the kind man. When her father forbids her from seeing him, Julia struggles.
Will she say goodbye to Taylor when the trail splits? Or will the pull of forbidden romance be too strong to ignore?
What is it about Julia that will make your readers care about her?
Julia is an independent but a kindhearted person who likes to help others. She raised her little brother and kept their farm going after her mother died while her father was still at war. On the trail, she befriends a woman with two young children who loses her husband in an awful accident.
What novel would you like to see brought to film?
Karen Witemeyer has some wonderful books. I’d really like to see her Short-Straw Bride made into a movie.
I love the book's tagline: "Four brothers. Four straws. One bride." Intriguing and, as the description says, "lighthearted."
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The last novel I read is Tender Hope by Amanda Cabot. It’s the third book in Cimarron Creek Trilogy, and it has not one, not two, but three romances. I recommend the whole series. While each book is a stand-alone story, there are some excellent twists and turns that run through the whole trilogy. You’ll want to read all three books.
Great recommendation! What are you working on now?
I’m writing a novella called "Twice the Trouble" that will be part of the Mail-Order Standoff Collection. It’s the story of two identical twin sisters who have become mail-order brides. Before they arrive in town to marry two men who are cousins, they decide they want to get to know the men before marrying them. They step off the stage in matching dresses and refuse to tell the cousins which twin is which. The first chapter had me smiling quite a bit.
How fun! All the best with it.

The novella I’m writing now is that last story I have planned. I’d like to know what storylines readers would like to see in a Christian romance, maybe something they haven’t yet seen.
Thank you, Vickie for visiting and telling us about yourself and your novel. Readers, Vickie has offered to give away a free copy of her book. James L. Rubart and Free Books!

Before we chat with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of On a Summer Tide, by Suzanne Fisher, is:
jtandviv@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's revisit novelist James L. Rubart, author of The Pages of Her Life (HarperCollins Christian Publishing, May 2019).
Jim, how would you classify the genre of your new novel?
Tough question! No one really knows (not even me). My publisher and agent say I’ve created my own genre, which makes my stories unique, but often hard to describe. The closest definition is a genre called Slipstream, which essentially says, “Contemporary fiction where fantastical things often happen.”

Now for a bit more about Jim:
James L. Rubart is 28 years old, but lives trapped inside an older man's body. He thinks he's still young enough to water ski like a madman and dirt bike with his two grown sons, and loves to send readers on journeys they'll remember months after they finish one of his stories.
He's the best-selling, Christy Book of the Year, INSPY, and RT Book Reviews award-winning author of ten novels as well as a professional speaker, audio book narrator, the co-host of the Novel Marketing podcast, and the owner of The Rubart Writing Academy.
Jim lives with his amazing wife on a small lake in eastern Washington.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I’m a scuba diver and love sleight of hand magic.
I feel like I've maybe seen the occasional Facebook post about the diving. But the sleight of hand is definitely news to me!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of The Pages of Her Life.

Allison Moore is making it. Barely. The Seattle architecture firm she started with her best friend is struggling, but at least they’re free from the games played by the corporate world. She’s gotten over her divorce. And while her dad’s recent passing is tough, their relationship had never been easy.
Then the bomb drops. Her dad was living a secret life and left her mom in massive debt. As Allison scrambles to help her mom find a way out, she’s given a journal, anonymously, during a visit to her favorite coffee shop. The pressure to rescue her mom mounts, and Allison pours her fears and heartache into the journal.
But then the unexplainable happens. The words in the journal, her words, begin to disappear. And new ones fill the empty spaces—words that force her to look at everything she knows about herself in a new light.
Ignoring those words could cost her everything . . . but so could embracing them.
What is it about Allison that will make your readers care about her?
From the early feedback I’ve gotten, Allison (my lead character) is so relatable. Most of us have had times in our life where we wish we’d stood up for ourselves and haven’t, or maybe like Allison, we never have and are desperate to do it. Allison’s struggles are real, and she’s vulnerable, but knows there’s a strength deep inside herself. It’s a matter of that strength rising to the surface and coming out. And that’s the heart of the story.
Let’s say someone wrote a novel based on your life. What would the title be?
Wow! Great question. Maybe, The Life Through A Broken Vessel. The “Life” is Jesus. So it’s his life, and the Life he gives, lived out through me, the broken vessel.
That's kind of beautiful. Go on and write it, Jim!
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I’ll mention the novel that popped into my mind first, even though it’s been a number of years since I read it. It’s called, Long Way Gone , by Charles Martin.
It’s a beautiful interpretation of the Prodigal Son story set in modern times. It got quite dusty multiple times as I read the book and realized the love of the Father for me. Highly recommended.
I know his readers really loved that one.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a series starring a character named, Rembrandt Stone, who is a detective that solves cold cases by traveling back in time. I’m writing the stories with my great friend, Susie Warren and we’re quite excited about them!
What a fun duo!

Is standing up for others easier than standing up for yourself?
Thanks for having me once again, Trish! We’ve chatted about every one of my novels. I appreciate that so much.
Always a pleasure, Jim. Thank you for visiting and telling us about yourself and your novel. Readers, Jim has offered to give away a free copy of his book. Suzanne Fisher and Free Books!

Congratulations! I'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's revisit novelist Suzanne Fisher, author of contemporary fiction ("More specifically…a 'Calgon, take me away' genre, if there is such a thing"), On a Summer Tide , Book 1 in the Three Sisters Island series (Revell, April 2019).

With over one million copies of her books sold worldwide, Suzanne is the best-selling author of more than thirty books, ranging from non-fiction books, to children’s books, to novels.
She lives with her very big family in northern California.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
One of the joys in my life is being involved with puppy raising and breeder keeping for Guide Dogs for the Blind. You just can’t take yourself too seriously when a puppy is tearing through the house with someone’s underwear in its mouth.
What a wonderful experience that must be (underwear and all). And what a fulfilling endeavor!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of On a Summer Tide.

Cam's full-throttle life skids to a stop when her father buys a remote island off the coast of Maine. Paul Grayson has a dream to breathe new life into the island--a dream that includes reuniting his estranged daughters. Certain Dad has lost his mind, the three sisters rush to the island.
To Cam's surprise, the slow pace of island life appeals to her, along with the locals--and one in particular.
Seth Walker, the scruffy island schoolteacher, harbors more than a few surprises.
I love the premise of this series.
What is it about Camden Grayson that will make your readers care about her?
Camden Grayson can’t be stuffed into a box. She’s bright, bold, ambitious, overly optimistic…and clueless when it comes to personal relationships. Her flaws—and there are many—make her thoroughly likable!
Let’s say someone wrote a novel based on your life. What would the title be?
Detective Mom. I just have a strange radar when it comes to people and trouble. Drives my kids crazy. As a mother of four, I consider it a gift. ;)
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Just finished Laura Frantz’s A Moonbow Night (Revell). She has such a rich imagination, and wonderful grasp of pre-Revolutionary Colonial America. And wow, that girl knows how to create a romantic male lead!
What are you working on now?
Just opened a new document to start book 2 in the Three Sisters Island series. Each of the sisters will take a turn as the main character, so next up is Maddie, a newly certified Marriage and Family Therapist (who has never been married nor had children).
I imagine there are more therapists out there in that situation than we would hope, lol.
Where else can readers find you online?
Well! I’m so glad you asked. I love connecting with readers. I work in a cramped laundry room with two big yellow dogs at my feet. Hearing from readers is like fresh air blowing through this tiny room!

Funny story: I met my husband Rob in a karate studio when he knocked me down while I was working out – preparing for my brown belt exam. We like to tell people he swept me off my feet.
That almost sounds like the "meet cute" of romantic comedy, Beth. Kind of romantic!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Moments We Forget.

Can Jillian count on her sisters as she tries to step into a stronger place—or will she always be “just Jillian,” the less-than Thatcher sister?
What is it about Jillian that will make your readers care about her?
Jillian wants more for herself … for her life. And we all want that at some point in our lives – something more, whether it’s an unfulfilled dream, or an unfulfilled promise we’ve made to ourselves or that someone’s made to us.
Let’s say someone wrote a novel based on your life. What would the title be?
Choosing the Beauty of Broken
Hmm. Intriguing!
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The Solace of Water by Elizabeth Byler Younts – I stayed up all night reading this novel and I was on deadline at the time! She writes about the unlikely friendship between two women and the story – the issues Elizabeth delved into in such an honest way – kept me turning the pages.
What are you working on now?
I’m finishing book three in the Thatcher Sisters Series, where Johanna steps front and center into the plot. She’s had quite the journey from book one to book three.

Johnnie Alexander and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of my new romantic suspense novella, A Special Kind of Double, is subscriber:
rackylemaire@...
Congratulations! I'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's revisit novelist Johnnie Alexander, author of the historical novella, "Journey of the Heart," in The Erie Canal Brides Collection (Barbour, March 2019).

An award-winning, best-selling novelist, Johnnie serves on the Serious Writer, Inc. executive board, co-hosts Writers Chat, and interviews inspirational authors for Novelists Unwind. She lives in Oklahoma with Griff, her happy-go-lucky collie, and Rugby, her raccoon-treeing papillon.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
Such a fun question. Here’s a random thing I don’t think I’ve used before—my parents actually moved from one house to another while I was at 4-H camp. I didn’t know until we pulled into the driveway of the new place. A big surprise!
What a fun thing to do! That's not a surprise one can pull off very often in a lifetime.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of "Journey of the Heart."

Tavish Dunbar, an architect with the Circleville Squaring Company, has a government mandate to design a new post office and lodgings. Unfortunately, Postmaster Sinclair and his attractive but vapid daughter aren’t cooperating with the project.
Neither Charity nor Tavish are thrilled when they find themselves traveling together on the nearby Ohio-Erie Canal. But when a slave-hunter threatens a runaway’s journey to freedom, the couple reveal their true hearts while risking their lives for the fugitive and each other.
What is it about Charity that will make your readers care about her?
Charity is smart, caring, and passionate about doing whatever she can to educate others on the evils of slavery. To protect her identity as the author of abolitionist pamphlets, she pretends to be something she’s not. As the story progresses, she shows her courage and willingness to sacrifice her comfort for someone who desperately needs her help.
A year or so ago, my book club read The Scarlet Pimpernel. You made me think of it with your description of Charity and her noble, clandestine efforts. I love when a character is far more than most others realize.
Let’s say someone wrote a novel based on your life. What would the title be?
She Smiled at the Future
Great attitude!
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
We Hope for Better Things , by Erin Bartels. This is an incredible novel that weaves together the stories of three women from different eras. It explores prejudices, family relationships, and the heartache of secrets. I can’t wait to read more books by Erin.
What are you working on now?
I’m writing another novella for Barbour. The story is titled “Blue Moon” and will appear in the Hometown Heroines Collection.
Where else can readers find you online?

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
What would be your preferred mode of nineteenth century travel—canal boat, train, or horseback?
I can tell you right now that this woman would take the train whenever possible! Thank you, Johnnie, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your novella. Readers, Johnnie has offered to give away a free copy of the collection. To enter, leave a comment and your email below in answer to Johnnie's question, above. My New Romantic Suspense Give-Away! A Special Kind of Double

Before we look at this week's book, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Beneath a Camperdown Elm, by Janet Chester Bly, is:
aliciabhaney@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now I'd like to tell you about a book I just released, a copy of which I'll give away next week. A Special Kind of Double (Winged Publications, April 2019) is a romantic suspense story.
Here's the book's teaser:
Franny and Grace Otterbridge were always the closest of sisters. But after their father’s death, Grace veered off in a different direction. Now Franny feels she’s lost her. Literally—Grace has gone missing. Franny assumes she’s taken off on another wild hair, but signs soon suggest otherwise.
Franny accepts amateur sleuthing help from new flame Nevan Burns, a young fine artist (who’s also a fine young artist). He proves himself more than good company, and Franny finds herself swinging from one emotion to another, from joy to fear, from anticipation to dread. She’s not equipped to search for Grace alone. She’s even less prepared for what she finds.
Because I usually ask authors to tell us why readers will care about the protagonist...
Franny is bouncing back from a recent, crushing betrayal by her boyfriend and her best friend. She might not have fully forgiven either of them just yet, but she's working on forgetting them. She cherishes the support her mother and her sister, Grace, have given her. The three have always held a tight bond with each other.
But recently Grace has been wilder in her life choices and, in that respect, she's distanced herself from Franny and their mother. When Grace goes missing, Franny's sense of responsibility for her younger sister returns, and her initial annoyance turns into a bit of shame, a lot of concern, and downright fear.
Like all of us, Franny would like to be a better, more unconditionally loving Christian.
The book is available for purchase online via the following button:
I hope you'll check out A Special Kind of Double. In the meantime, I'm going to give away an e-copy of the book. To enter, leave a comment and your [fractured] email in answer to the following question, below. "Please enter me" won't get you entered. Remember that U.S. subscribers are entered an additional time in each drawing. The drawing is done by email, so leave your email address, like so: trish[at]trishperry[dot]com.
Only United States residents are eligible for the drawing, but anyone can subscribe to the blog posts via the GDPA-compliant Feedblitz box above my list of books, at right.
My question: What was a time you realized you had misjudged someone without realizing the whole story about their circumstances? I'll leave a comment about this topic, as well! I know we've all been there.

Janet Chester Bly and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Carolina Grace, by Regina Rudd Merrick, is:
sarahtaylor@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Janet Chester Bly, author of the contemporary western romance (with a touch of mystery), Beneath a Camperdown Elm , Book 3, Trails of Reba Cahill Series (KDP, May 2019).

She lives on top of a mountain (4,200 ft. elev.) on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation where she serves her small local church as Music Director.
She and her three married sons completed Stephen’s last novel for him, Stuart Brannon’s Final Shot, which was a Selah Award Finalist. Check out the BlyBooks.com website blog for stories about this adventure.
The Trails of Reba Cahill Series novels comprise Janet’s first solo adult fiction. For more information and to retrieve sample chapters of Books 1 & 2, Wind in the Wires and Down Squash Blossom Road, go to the Bly Books site (see link below).
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
My yard includes a full-sized, false-front town called Broken Arrow Crossing that my late husband built.
It sounds as if there's an entire story behind that, Janet!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Beneath a Camperdown Elm.

Reba is training Jace McKane to become her rancher husband. And Jace promises to help fight the lawsuit that threatens the family ranch. But two major complications intervene: his unscrupulous father and the actions of her grandmother.
When Jace returns to California to bail out his father’s finances, Reba discovers her stalker escaped from prison. Then her mother learns her son and ex-husband sank in an Alaskan sea. Can Reba keep her from flipping out for good?
Meanwhile, Scottish twins, Archie and Wynda MacKenzie, mesmerize the town with their trick biking skills and charming accents. However, Reba’s not sure they’re what they claim to be.
And what mystery lurks beneath the Camperdown Elm?
What is it about Reba Mae that will make your readers care about her?
Feisty, redhead cowgirl Reba Mae Cahill fights to overcome circumstances beyond her control: skeletons in the family closet; a fear to ever have children of her own; a stalker intent on violence; a neighboring rancher with vengeance on his mind; and what she perceives as her grandmother’s betrayal. She’s also finally found what she believes is legitimate love after looking in all the wrong places.
Please share with us a quote about writing that you find inspiring.
“Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.” ― Louis L'Amour
Excellent quote. Sometimes we have to simply let weak writing start us off so we can get the good stuff to warm up.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I’ve enjoyed reading again the O’Malley Series by Dee Henderson, beginning with the prequel, Danger in the Shadows . I love the concept of orphans who grew up together in an orphanage and adopted each other later as siblings to form their own family. Each of the mystery stories centers on one of them and their chosen profession—bodyguard, doctor, search and rescue, marshal, etc. One of the most creative romance scenes I’ve ever read happens when a crisis-hostage negotiator and FBI special agent meet in the middle of a tense, potential shootout in Book 1, The Negotiator . The dialogue is priceless.
What are you working on now?
Hard at work trying to re-release some of Stephen’s out-of-print books, one by one.
