99-Cent Sale on A Special Kind of Double!

I'm reposting information about my romantic suspense novella, A Special Kind of Double, because from now through October 31, Amazon has the book marked down to 99 cents!
Here's the book's teaser:
Franny and Grace Otterbridge were always the closest of sisters. But after their father’s death, Grace veered off in a different direction. Now Franny feels she’s lost her. Literally—Grace has gone missing. Franny assumes she’s taken off on another wild hair, but signs soon suggest otherwise.
Franny accepts amateur sleuthing help from new flame Nevan Burns, a young fine artist (who’s also a fine young artist). He proves himself more than good company, and Franny finds herself swinging from one emotion to another, from joy to fear, from anticipation to dread. She’s not equipped to search for Grace alone. She’s even less prepared for what she finds.
Because I usually ask authors to tell us why readers will care about the protagonist...
Franny is bouncing back from a recent, crushing betrayal by her boyfriend and her best friend. She might not have fully forgiven either of them just yet, but she's working on forgetting them. She cherishes the support her mother and her sister, Grace, have given her. The three have always held a tight bond with each other.
But recently Grace has been wilder in her life choices and, in that respect, she's distanced herself from Franny and their mother. When Grace goes missing, Franny's sense of responsibility for her younger sister returns, and her initial annoyance turns into a bit of shame, a lot of concern, and downright fear.
Like all of us, Franny would like to be a better, more unconditionally loving Christian.

Kathy McKinsey and Free Books!

Before we talk with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Veronica Heley's gentle crime novel, Murder for Good, is:
jtandviv@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Kathy McKinsey, author of the children’s book, Millie’s Christmas (Mantle Rock Publishing, October 2019).

She’s had two careers before writing—stay-at-home-Mom and rehabilitation teacher for the blind.
Kathy lives in Lakewood, Ohio with her husband and two of her children. Besides writing, she enjoys activities with her church, editing for other writers, braille transcribing, crocheting, knitting, and playing with the cat and dog.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
My two favorite vegetables are coffee and cocoa beans.
A veggie lover after my own heart.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Millie's Christmas.

Millie’s friend Bruce, the family dog, also helps her celebrate Christmas, and sometimes gets her in trouble.
When Ruthie’s big brother Jake breaks his ankle, Millie learns about sad things, like divorce, when Jake can’t visit his mommy for Christmas. Millie watches Ruthie’s family love each other through the sadness, and find joy in Christmas.
That sounds like a gentle way to broach delicate subjects with children.
What is it about Millie that will make your readers care about her?
Truly, Millie is a fun, cute kitten. But I believe readers will grow to love all the members of this family.
Author Robin Jones Gunn once said all inspirational authors eventually get a sense of an overall theme God has given them for their stories. What do you think your overall theme is?
Jesus’s love and truth remain solid through sad times.
We all need reminding of that, over and over, I think.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I am in the middle of re-reading the O'Malley series by Dee Henderson. These are fascinating and comforting stories, about family, faith, romance, and mystery.
I have yet to read any of them, but I remember my best friend raving about them years ago. So many excellent books and so little time!
What are you working on now?
I normally write women’s fiction. Currently I am working on a story which takes place on a farm. A woman returns home after twelve years of separation and finds love and encouragement from her family.
We'll have to have you back to feature one of your women's fiction novels, Kathy!

Veronica Heley and Free Books!

Before we talk with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of DiAnn Mills' romantic suspense novel, Fatal Strike, is:
rochelle017@...
Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's talk with novelist Veronica Heley, author of the gentle crime novel, Murder for Good (Severn House Publishers, August 2019 UK, October USA).

Veronica is involved with her local church and community affairs, likes to break for coffee with friends, and does the garden when she has time.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
My favourite holiday place is the beautiful city of Bruges in Belgium, where I can spend time with friends, buy well-made clothes, and stock up on the best chocolate in the world.
That looks like such a charming city.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Murder for Good.

What is it about Ellie that will make your readers care about her?
Ellie is a widow who was always put down by her first husband and scheming, ambitious daughter. She has inherited money, which she has learned to administer through a trust, but she has never learned to drive a car. Now happily remarried, she likes people and is good with them, though not easily taken in by liars. A spot of gentle humour helps her through the day.
Author Robin Jones Gunn once said all inspirational authors eventually get a sense of an overall theme God has given them for their stories. What do you think your overall theme is?
That by keeping in touch with God you can tackle the difficult problems that life throws at you – and even manage a smile.
So true. I remember a friend of mine who handled a very intense conversation with a supervisor once, and afterward she mentioned feeling God's calming presence and guidance through the entire experience. She said she was so used to constantly listening for God's guidance that she didn't even have to work at it anymore--it had become a part of her every-day behavior. Keeping in touch with God makes more sense than so many other uses of our time and energy.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
A Man Called Ove , by a Swedish writer called Fredrik Backman. A curmudgeonly old man, at odds with everyone around him, tries unavailingly to commit suicide when his wife dies . . . and is rescued by the community and a stray cat who need him to help them. I laughed and I cried. It’s a wonderful book.
That's absolutely one of my favorite books. I recommend it all the time, too.
What are you working on now?
I have am working on another Bea Abbot story, called False Conclusion. Bea’s fourteen-year old ward Bernice is brought back from boarding school by the elegant, acid-tongued April Trescott, whose niece has been rooming with Bernice. The niece is a monosyllabic Fatso and Bernice can’t wait to get rid of her . . . only the girl is then dumped on Bea in the wake of a Trescott family tragedy.
It turns out Evelina Trescott is in deep trouble. She embroils Bea and Bernice in a spider’s web of lies in which it is not clear whether she is the spider or the fly. And Bea’s long-divorced ex-husband arrives to help – or perhaps to hinder? – Bea’s attempts to find out the horrifying truth.
Where else can readers find you online?
My website is at www.veronicaheley.co. I send out a monthly newsletter with lots of news and views on it. A shortened version of this is later posted as a blog on my website, blog.veronicaheley.com Both can be accessed through the home page of my website, and if you would like to hear a sample from one of my audio books, you can also access that through the website.
The book can be purchased online via the following button:
Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
Most of my readers like the fact that Ellie Quicke is now happily remarried. Now my other heroine, Bea Abbot, has had various men showing an interest in her over the years but has always drawn back from commitment. Now her ex-husband wants her to think about it seriously. I think this marriage will work second time round but I’m aware that some of my readers may have reservations about this. What do you think?
Thanks, Veronica, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your novel. Readers, Veronica has offered to give away a free copy of her book. To enter, leave a comment and your email below in answer to her question, above. "Please enter me" won't get you entered. DiAnn Mills and Free Books!

Before we visit with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Melanie Dobson's time-slip novel, Memories of Glass, is:
mindyhoung@...
Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's talk with novelist DiAnn Mills, author of the romantic suspense novel, Fatal Strike (Tyndale, September 2019).

DiAnn is a founding board member of the American Christian Fiction Writers, a member of Advanced Writers and Speakers Association, Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and International Thriller Writers. She is the director of the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference, Mountainside Marketing Retreat, and Mountainside Novelist Retreat with social media specialist Edie Melson where she continues her passion for helping other writers be successful.
DiAnn speaks to various groups and teaches writing workshops around the country.
My goodness, what a resume you have, DiAnn!
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I’m a very picky eater, mostly vegetarian.
Ah, to be a picky eater. I wouldn't mind liking a little less food.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Fatal Strike.

As Leah and Jon check connections among the victims and dig deeper into motives, they discover appearances may be deceiving. Someone is desperate to keep their secrets hidden, and Leah and Jon must face their greatest fears in order to stop the next fatal strike.
That's an exciting and intense premise, especially when coupled with your one-sentence summary at the top of the post. And I love the cover, by the way.
What is it about Leah Riesel that will make your readers care about her?
FBI Special Agent Leah Riesel has dedicated her life to keeping people safe. She’s a sniper with FBI SWAT and a private person. Her estranged family lives in New York City, and she desperately wants a relationship with them.
Who is one of your favorite mainstream authors?
Joel Rosenberg. He creates stories that allow me to experience characters who walk through life with purpose, meaning, and sacrifice. Every Joel Rosenberg book is a lesson in master craftsmanship and causes me to lose time and space during his exciting stories.
I've mentioned this in the past, but maybe not here. Years ago I attended the same church as Joel and his wife and kids in the Washington, DC area. This was shortly before he published his first novel, The Last Jihad, and he and his wife were in the Young Marrieds Bible study class with us. He was a humble man, and I had no idea he was so gifted and insightful. You just never know.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Run Away by Harlan Coben is about a man desperate to find his runaway daughter. Throughout the story, the reader feels the father’s unconditional love. His search in unsavory places proves he will not give up until he finds her.
What are you working on now?
I just finished a romantic suspense titled Airborne. An FBI agent boards a plane for Salzburg, Austria for a much-needed vacation and to make decisions about her future. Her husband has asked for a divorce, and he doesn’t know she’s pregnant. Two hours into the flight, several people on board begin showing symptoms of a deadly virus.
We'll definitely have to watch for that release, DiAnn!

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
What traits make a story unforgettable for you and moves you to see what other books that author has written?
Great question. Thank you, DiAnn, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your novel. Readers, DiAnn has offered to give away a free copy of her book. Melanie Dobson and Free Books!

Before we visit with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of my romantic-comedy novel set, Love at Millicent's Tea Shop, is:
quilting-lady@...
Congratulations! I'll get your book set right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's chat with novelist Melanie Dobson, author of the time-slip novel (with stories from both the present and past), Memories of Glass (Tyndale House Publishers, September 2019).

Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I love old cemeteries! My poor husband isn’t quite as enamored by this passion-of-mine, but I could spend hours upon hours reading epitaphs and wondering at the stories.
I so agree! I imagine as a historical fiction writer, you get a lot of story inspiration from the little information provided on the epitaphs.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Memories of Glass.

Almost eighty years later, Ava Drake, the director of the prestigious Kingston Foundation, begins to uncover the devastating story about her family’s role in financing Hitler. As she and a child advocate named Landon West dig into the past, Ava discovers that her story is intertwined with the West family and an elderly Dutch woman who has spent a lifetime remembering a boy who was lost during the war. A boy she never expected to find.
What is it about your lead characters that will make your readers care about them?
Josie van Rees is a student in Amsterdam who delivers letters for the Dutch resistance. She wants to rescue the Jewish children being deported by their Nazi occupiers, but it seems impossible for her to help.
In the contemporary story, Ava Drake begins to research her great-grandfather’s work as an investor during World War II, but her entire family, it seems, is determined to stop her from finding the truth.
Who is one of your favorite mainstream authors?
Kate Morton is a master of the time-slip genre. I love how she weaves together a story with lyrical prose and a mystery that spans generations
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I just finished the stunning time-slip novel by Amanda Dykes called Whose Waves These Are . This story takes readers on a journey to an island in Maine with characters that will—well, read the reviews and then the book. It’s one of those beautiful stories that’s impossible to summarize in a few words.
I don't think I realized how prevalent the time-slip genre was. I've loved every novel I've read in that style so far. They've always made history feel more relevant to what's happening in the contemporary world.
What are you working on now?
I just returned from a trip to Germany, researching for my next novel. This new story is about the Nazi quest to find their Aryan roots and a female archeologist in the 1940s who has to make some terrifying choices to survive. It’s also a story about a woman years later trying to out what happened to her family.
Where else can readers find you online?

The book can be purchased online via the following button:
Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
A friend and I recently launched the new website timeslipfiction.com. Do you have a favorite time-slip (also known as split-time) novel?
Thank you, Melanie, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your novel. Readers, Melanie has offered to give away a free copy of her book. Love at Millicent's Tea Shop: Two-Novel Set Giveaway!

Before featuring the giveaway of my newly released two-novel-set, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Field of Redemption, by Lori Bates Wright, is:
psalm103and138@...
and the winner of the free copy of Trapped, by Lillian Duncan, is:
tumsec@...
Congratulations! We'll get your books right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now I want to announce that my two Millicent Tea Shop novels have been released in an e-book set called Love at Millicet's Tea Shop . You might be familiar with the titles of the two novels, The Perfect Blend and Tea for Two. Here's the cover copy for the set:
British expat, Millicent Ashford Jewell, welcomes friends and strangers to Milly’s Tea Shop in charming Middleburg, Virginia, where more than one romance has found its spark. Two such stories are featured in Love at Millicent's Tea Shop. If you enjoy the novels of Debbie Macomber, you’ll love these romances set in a small town with a big heart.
THE PERFECT BLEND
Steph Vandergrift is in need of a job. She left everything behind to elope with Middleburg attorney Rick Manfred, never imagining he would stand her up at the altar. Now, hoping just to get by until she can decide what to do next, Steph thinks she’s found the perfect position at the local tea shop.
Kendall James, one of the kindest and most eligible bachelors in the area, meets Steph and proceeds to pursue her. But by the time Steph feels able to consider dating again, her runaway fiancé returns and tries to win her back. Steph is wary, but she and Rick always seemed to blend so well. Are they truly meant to be together, or does God have something else in mind?
TEA FOR TWO
Counselor Tina Milano has been visiting Milly's Tea Shop regularly for the past several months. She has many friends but no steady man in her life. Zack Cooper is a local farmer who provides Milly with fresh fruit and vegetables. As a single parent, Zack is doing his best to raise his teenage son and daughter on his own.
When the kids get in minor scrapes with the law, Milly gently encourages Zack and Tina to work together to draw the teens back before their rebellious natures land them in even hotter water. At first Tina sees the relationship in only a professional capacity, but soon her friends notice the luscious scent of romance in the air and decide to help things along.
Tea for Two is a faith-filled novel that explores the delight of second chances, warm friendship, and unexpected romantic encounters.
The two-novel set is available for online purchase at the following button:
Let me ask you a question. I've written for a few series in the past, and I like that e-book formats make it easier to purchase entire sets at once like this. Each of these novels is also still available in individual format as well. Considering that quite a bit of time usually goes by between individual book releases, are you more likely to purchase a full series like this or individual books, one at a time?
I'm going to give away an e-copy of the set to a subscriber or someone who answers my question, above. The drawing is done by email, so leave your answer and your email (like so: trish[at]trishperry[dot]com) in the comments section below. "Please enter me" won't get you entered. Remember that U.S. subscribers are entered an additional time in each drawing.

Lillian Duncan and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I first want to apologize to my readers and featured authors for my delay in posting my author interviews for the past two weeks. If I may briefly share something personal: my adult son was in a near-fatal accident while on vacation in Kauai last week. Many of you have followed the unfolding of events in my Facebook posts, and your prayers have been an extremely moving blessing.
We are still very much focused on his recovery--he's staying with me during that process. So my normal activities have been curtailed some, and your continued prayers for my son, Tucker, are very much appreciated.
That said, I'm trying to resume some normalcy amidst the chaos, so here we go.
Today there will be two featured authors. But first, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Lord of Her Heart, by Sherrinda Ketchersid, is:
marypopmom@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet today's first novelist, Lillian Duncan, author of the romantic suspense novel, Trapped (Harbourlight Books; September 2019).

Lillian is a multi-published author who lives in the middle of Ohio Amish country with her husband. After more than 30 years working as a speech pathologist for children, she believes in the power of words to transform lives, especially God’s Word.
She loves to write stories that entertain but also demonstrate God’s love for all of us.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I’m very short—only 4’8”.
As is said about my two favorite dancers on So You Think You Can Dance, "small but mighty!"
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Trapped.

What is it about Angelina that will make your readers care about her?
We get to watch her go from being a selfish heiress to someone who really cares about others and is willing to go beyond the expected to help others.
Who is one of your favorite mainstream authors?
There are too many to pick just one—but I’ll try. I love James Patterson’s books, especially the Alex Cross novels.
I get you on that question. I love many authors, and it's difficult to pick one above the others.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Meet in the Middle by LoRee Peery. I’m not a big romance novel fan, but this novel is sweet and cute. It was fun to read. Perfect for the beach.
What are you working on now?
I’m in the middle of edits for my next book—Jane Doe. And I’m busy promoting Trapped as well as The David Years. The David Years was released in August and is the second in my Puzzle House series.

Lori Bates Wright and Free Books

And now let's meet novelist Lori Bates Wright, author of the inspirational historical romance, Field of Redemption (SierraVista Books, July 2019).

Raised in New Mexico, she now lives in Texas with her husband of 34 years. She has two grown kids and four adorable grand boys (who leap tall buildings in a single bound!)
When she's not writing you'll most likely find her sipping coffee and daydreaming on the porch swing.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
My favorite sandwich is peanut butter and pickle. With a side of Barbecue chips! Lol! My kids grew up thinking this was completely normal.
That sounds so much like a pregnancy snack!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Field of Redemption.

Failing to locate the boy, Abby is stranded in Confederate Georgia with no means to get home. After taking a nursing position in Macon's confederate hospital, she comes under suspicion as a union spy. Her only consolation is the work she does outside of the hospital walls in a shanty town of unwanted orphans.
Confederate Officer, Ian Saberton, a theological graduate of Yale, is thrust into war and forced to choose sides. His greatest struggle becomes a fight for his soul as his faith and deep convictions are put to the test.
When Sherman advances on Atlanta, Ian is sent to prepare his home state for enemy invasion. Headquartered in Macon, he encounters a town full of civilians oblivious to the imminent danger bearing down on them. He and his men must see the city secured, while avoiding a passel of matchmaking socialites determined to see him married.
When Abby is brought up on false charges and scheduled to be hanged, she has no choice but to trust the handsome Confederate officer who offers the only way of escape.
Exciting! What is it about Abby and Ian that will make your readers care about them?
Though they are on opposite sides, they have a common goal - to see an end to the devastation brought on by a war that has severed their beloved country.
Who is one of your favorite mainstream authors?
Mary Higgins Clark. She has had 51 best-selling novels in her 45 year career. And while I definitely have my favorites, there isn’t one of her stories that fails to draw the reader into an intriguing mystery.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Until the Mountains Fall by Connilyn Cossette. Though it’s Biblical Fiction, she writes such relatable characters that it feels like you are there. This story was powerful with a really emotionally satisfying ending.
What are you working on now?
Book Three of The Saberton Legacy which features youngest brother, Zachery.

Sherrinda Ketchersid and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of The Mennonite Queen, by Patrick E. Craig, is:
Neesie315@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Sherrinda Ketchersid, author of the inspirational historic/romantic adventure, Lord of Her Heart (Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas, May, 2019).

Sherrinda lives in north-central Texas with her preacher husband. With four grown children, three guys and a gal, she has more time and energy to spin tales of faith, fun, and forever love.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I have a secret desire to dance well. I’ve never learned how, and I know I look ridiculous when I do, but I still think I should take dance lessons, just for the fun of it.
Oh, yes, I hear you there. I'm a huge fan of So You Think You Can Dance! Those dancers have spent their entire young lives honing their skills and beating their bodies into shape! I have so much respect for them.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Lord of Her Heart.

Malcolm Castillon of Berkham is determined to win the next tournament and be granted a manor of his own. After years of proving his worth on the jousting field, he yearns for a life of peace. Rescuing a scrawny lad who turns out to be a beautiful woman is not what he bargained for. Still, he cannot deny that she stirs his heart like no other, in spite of her conniving ways.
Chaos, deception, and treachery threaten their goals, but both are determined to succeed. Learning to trust each other might be the only way either of them survives.
What is it about Lady Jocelyn Ashburn that will make your readers care about her?
Lady Jocelyn Ashburn is brave in the face of her fear. Time and time again, she is faced with difficult circumstances and rises to the challenge with grace and determination. She does the hard things in order to reach her goal. I wish I was more like her in many ways.
Let’s fantasize—your publisher is sending you to explore the history and setting for a new novel. Where are they sending you? Why there?
Scotland, hands down. I love the history and the beauty of the Highlands. It seems mystical to me. They were very family/clan oriented and loyal to a fault. They seemed fierce, but there is much to be admired in their pride and determination to keep their kin secure.
Such an adventurous, rugged, and romantic setting.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The last book I read was Before We Were Yours , by Lisa Wingate. My goodness, what a moving story. The characters stayed with me for days and I was moved by the determination of the oldest child to survive and keep her siblings together. It’s a beautiful novel.
A book that successful has surely touched a nerve in the reading public. It's high on my ridiculously long TBR list. I can't wait.
What are you working on now?
I took Ian McGowan, the head guardsman in Lord of Her Heart, and gave him his own forever love. I’ve finished his story and am now in the rewriting phase.

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
Trust is a major theme throughout Lord of Her Heart—trusting others and ultimately trusting God. Sometimes I struggle with trusting others and sometimes trusting God when things seem bleak. Is trusting God or trusting others something you struggle with? What have you found helps you to trust God?
