Melanie Dickerson and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free e-copy of the Christmas cozy mystery novel, A Caffeine Conundrum, by Angela Ruth Strong, is:
Myersalicem@...
Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Melanie Dickerson, author of the Southern Historical Romance, Magnolia Summer (September 2018).

She is a Christy Award winner, a two-time Maggie Award winner, and winner of The National Reader's Choice Award and the Carol Award in Young Adult fiction. She earned her bachelor's degree in special education from The University of Alabama and has taught children with special needs in Georgia and Tennessee, and English to adults in Germany and Ukraine.
Now she spends her time writing stories of love and adventure near Huntsville, Alabama.
Wow, not only prolific, but quite an award winner, as well.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I once killed a rattlesnake with a stick because my puppy was wandering up to it.
Brought out the mama bear in you, eh? It's amazing how that instinct kicks in when we have someone or something innocent to protect.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Magnolia Summer.

Celia Wilcox arrives in Bethel Springs in June of 1880. She’s come from Nashville to help her sister care for their younger siblings. She must return to Nashville if she ever hopes to fulfill her dream of opening her own dress shop. Her attraction to Dr. Beverly terrifies her.
Celia catches Truett’s eye, and he finds himself wanting to impress her. But she flatly refuses to flirt with him or to fall for his—if he does say so himself—considerable charm. What will happen when Sheriff Suggs discovers Truett is the Hooded Horseman? Will Celia be able to prevent the sheriff from carrying out one last lynching?
What is it about Celia and Truett that will make your readers care about them?
Celia gave up her dream, perhaps forever, to help her family. And Truett risks his life to save people from the corrupt sheriff, and he takes care of Celia’s family when their father dies.
How do you restart the creative flow when you feel a block coming on?
It depends on what’s causing the block. When I’m just distracted by being at home, I go write at a coffee shop. When I don’t know what’s supposed to happen next in my story, I brainstorm, either by plotting in my head, or by talking out the story with a friend or one of my daughters.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
One of the last novels I read was The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz. I recommend it because it is a thoughtful, well-written romance with authentic historical details. Go read it!
What are you working on now?
I’m writing a Pied Piper of Hamlin fairy tale retelling, which will be the 10th book in my Hagenheim/Fairy Tale Romance series.

Angela Ruth Strong and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the signed copy of the inspirational romantic suspense novel, Camp Hope, by Sara Foust, is:
readinginks@...
Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Angela Ruth Strong, author of the Christmas cozy mystery, A Caffeine Conundrum , from the series, The CafFUNated Mysteries (Mountain Brook Ink, September 2018).

This Idaho Top Author and Cascade Award winner started IDAhope Writers to encourage other aspiring authors. She currently lives in Idaho with her husband and teenagers where she teaches yoga and works as a ticket agent for an airline when not writing.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I once won a television and Xbox in a hamster ball race where I was the hamster.
Not bad for a day's work!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of A Caffeine Conundrum.

The unlikely pair team up in an attempt to discover the real killer, though with the secrets in Tandy's past and Marissa's infamous clumsiness they could be their own worst enemies. Despite their differences, they follow clues to question a sweet, apple pie baking antique store owner, a GQ Santa in the retirement center, and a hipster millionaire with no social skills. Will they be able to figure out whodunit and prove their innocence before one of them goes to jail...or worse?
What is it about your characters that will make your readers care about them?
Tandy was abandoned by her mom and tries to act tough and independent though you see her soft side with her love of dogs. Marissa was raised by controlling parents and often embarrasses herself when trying to prove her worth.
What will make the readers care about them is their relationship in how they balance each other out even while trying to push each other over the edge.
How do you restart the creative flow when you feel a block coming on?
I put myself in my character’s shoes. My worst block came when writing Finding Love in Big Sky, and I realized it was because I know nothing about horses. I called my friend who owns a farm and asked if I could visit. That was just the inspiration I needed. So when I got blocked in A Caffeine Conundrum when writing the scene on the riverboat, I tried to get my husband to spend the weekend driving to Portland to go on a riverboat cruise. As supportive he is, he also has to keep me grounded. I visited riverboats on Youtube instead.
Can't say I blame you for wanting to try the actual riverboat. Sounds fun. I'm always impressed with my writer friends who go overseas to research (usually for historical novels). I'm not the globetrotter they are.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I really enjoyed Kara Isaac’s Then There Was You . So fun, so full of chemistry, a powerful message, and it had a great ending. Those are my main requirements of a good read. But don’t just take my word for it. Kara won a Rita for the novel, and it’s been nominated for many other awards.
What are you working on now?
The next book in the series is A Cuppa Trouble. There will be four books, all set during holidays. This one is set during Valentine’s, and the mystery involves car thieves. So expect some love connections and high-speed chases.

Sara Foust and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free e-copy of my new comedic romance, A Midnight Clear, is:
lemonade050@...
Congratulations! I'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Sara L. Foust, author of the inspirational romantic suspense novel, Camp Hope (Mantle Rock Publishing, July 2018).

Her debut novel Callum's Compass won second place in Deep River Books' 2017 Writer's Contest. She also has a story, “Leap of Faith,” in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Step Outside Your Comfort Zone.
Sara finds inspiration in her faith, her family, and the beauty of nature. When she isn’t writing, you can find her reading, camping, and spending time outdoors with her family.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I love pirate history, pirate stories, pirate movies . . . pretty much anything pirate.
So do I!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Camp Hope.

But when Amy’s four-year-old foster daughter is dragged into the mountains of Royal Blue by a former employee, parenting challenges are overshadowed by a new nightmare. The Sheriff's department fails to procure viable leads, and Amy can’t sit idle. Her childhood friend and first love, Jack Evans, returns to lend his skills as tracker. Problem is, he also stirs up romantic memories Amy would rather leave buried.
Jack struggles to let go of his past failures and prove his reliability by bringing Mattie home, but fears when he left camp nineteen years ago and failed to keep a promise to Amy, he permanently lost her confidence.
As Amy plunges into the wilderness on horseback to search for Mattie, she must decide who she trusts, let go of her childhood traumas, and learn to rely on hope in God. Facing dehydration, starvation, and a convoluted kidnapper, will she succeed in recovering her precious foster daughter or get lost in the vast wilderness forever?
Exciting subject matter!
What is it about Amy that will make your readers care about her?
I think readers will care about Amy because she is real. She is not perfect and has a scarred past, with a childhood filled with abuse, that has led her to a point where she doesn’t believe God cares about her. She is relatable in that we have all struggled at a time in our lives, and I believe readers will root for her to succeed, to heal, and most of all, to rediscover God.
Who is one of your favorite fictional characters?
Does Indiana Jones count? I love, love, love his resourceful, imperfect, and adventurous character, flaws and all.
Yes, he certainly does count. I remember seeing the first Indie film and thinking he was such a great modern twist on an old-fashioned hero. Great character.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The last novel I read was Red Carpet Summer by Melissa Ferguson. She is a new author and this is actually the freebie novel she is giving away if people sign up for her newsletter. But I absolutely loved the story. I immediately cared about what happened to her main heroine, Addie, and the plot was very interesting.
What are you working on now?
My third novel in the Love, Hope, and Faith Series, Rarity Mountain, is with my beta reader now. Once she finishes, I will be using her suggestions to finish tweaking it and then be sending it off to Mantle Rock. I am also writing a new novella, my first dip into the Women’s Fiction genre, called Of Walls, about a woman who goes on a mission trip across the world hoping to save her marriage.
That's one thing I love about the upsurge in independent publishing, the ability to publish in other genres. I hope you enjoy the Of Walls experience.

A Midnight Clear and Free Books!

Before we look at this week's giveaway, I want to announce that the winner of the free e-copy of The Sleuth's Miscalculation, by Kimberly Rose Johnson, is:

Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now I want to introduce you to my newly released comedic romance, A Midnight Clear (Winged Publications, August 2018).
A bit more about the story: When she attends a Washington, D.C. dinner party thrown by friends far wealthier than she, writer Maddie Travers is distracted by internal debates. Should she move back to D.C.? Should she seek work she might find more fulfilling? She meets the appealing “regular guy,” Dom Sebastiani, at the party and consequently wonders whether she’s ready to seek romance again. So many decisions! At the stroke of midnight, a shocking turn of events sets Maddie on a path that holds at least as many questions for her as it does answers.
The story involves touches of intrigue, comedy, romance, and hope. Maddie is a young woman in flux who struggles between a desire for professional success and the hope of making a meaningful impact on her fellow human beings. In the midst of that conflict is her attraction to two different men in varying degrees of eligibility. Life is not always clear, even at midnight.

Kimberly Rose Johnson and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free e-copy of Wildfire, by Gayla Hiss, is:
kristiedonelson@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's revisit novelist Kimberly Rose Johnson, author of the new romantic mystery, The Sleuth’s Miscalculation (Mountain Brook Ink, June 2018).

Kimberly holds a degree in Behavioral Science from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington, and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I’m addicted to Hallmark movies. I spend almost every Saturday night watching one. I also love the Hallmark mystery channel.
I see that Prince Harry's wife, Meghan Markle, stars in one that airs tomorrow, Dater's Handbook.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of The Sleuth's Miscalculation.

Sheriff Deputy Carter Malone expects Tipton, Oregon to be a sleepy small-town, but he miscalculated. He’d come to town for a fresh start with his nephew—one without the issues big cities deal with. Had he made a mistake? To complicate matters, he’s told he must consult with the sheriff’s daughter, who is not in law enforcement. When the minor case they are working morphs into something more, things quickly go from harmless to scary.
Can they solve the mystery before it’s too late, and more importantly, what will they do about their growing attraction?
What is it about Nancy that will make your readers care about her?
I think readers will be able to relate to Nancy. She values her friends and family and will do anything for them. She has hurts and regrets like all of us. Finally, she has a curious mind that drives her to solve mysteries.
Who is one of your favorite fictional characters?
I always come back to Dee Henderson's Marcus O'Malley when presented with a question like this. He is literally the only character that has stayed with me for years and years. I was drawn to his strength and depth of character.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I am currently reading The Saturday Night Supper Club by Carla Laureano. This story has held my interest and even though it takes me forever to finish a book, I will finish this one because I’m enjoying the interplay between the characters.
I know what you mean about taking forever to finish a book. Over the past year I've had so little reading time. I think I'm doing more "reading" by audiobook than any other method, because I can do that while walking or while in traffic.
What are you working on now?
Currently I’m adapting one of my books to screenplay, but once I’m finished with that I will finish the next book in my Brides of Seattle series and then write the third book in The Librarian Sleuth series.

I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! And now let's meet novelist Gayla Hiss, author of the Inspirational Romantic Suspense novel, Wildfire , book 3 of the Peril in the Park series (Mountain Brook Ink, August 2018).

A common theme in her stories is getting back to the simple things in life like faith, family, and the land. A national park enthusiast, she wants future generations to value and enjoy them too. All of the books in her Peril in the Park series are set in national parks.
Gayla and her husband often tour the country in their RV. She enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling, and lives in the Pacific Northwest.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I used to work for NASA—as a software engineer, not a rocket scientist.
How fascinating! I'm pretty sure you're the only NASA engineer I've ever featured here.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Wildfire.

Rachael and Dylan soon discover that chasing fires isn’t all they have in common—they’re both survivors of deep loss. However, their difference of opinion about faith keeps them at arm’s length, despite a growing attraction. As the danger escalates, Rachael and Dylan soon find themselves in a firestorm they cannot escape.
All seems lost until Rachael has a profound encounter that restores her faith and gives her hope. The close call also fuels her determination to stop the fires for good, but as she and Dylan search for answers, they find themselves at the center of a mystery. Can they solve it before disaster strikes again?
What a timely setting, considering all of the West Coast fires we're witnessing right now.
What is it about Dylan and Rachel that will make your readers care about them?
Dylan had a troubled childhood and was a juvenile delinquent. He has since straightened up his life and is an engine captain on a firefighting crew, but the tragic death of his brother still haunts him, despite his deep faith and calling to become a pastor.
Rachael is a pastor’s daughter, but the painful loss she suffered as a child has caused her to look to science instead of God for answers. Through science, she believes she can find a way to prevent wildfires and ultimately rid the planet of their devastation—yet a part of her still wants to believe in a loving God who cares about His Creation.
Who is one of your favorite fictional characters?
I watched the Star Trek movies recently and rediscovered the compelling character of Captain James T. Kirk. He’s so daring and adventurous, and both a man’s man and a lady’s man. No matter what, he never gives up. He always thinks he can find a way out of the most impossible circumstances—and he does!
I definitely enjoy the Chris Pine version of Captain Kirk.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Love Finds You in Tombstone, Arizona by Miralee Ferrell It was very well written and captured my interest all the way through. I enjoy reading realistic novels about the Old West and this one addressed the hard choices young women were faced with. It also had a compelling romance.
What are you working on now?
It’s the fourth book in the series, set in Yellowstone National Park. The hero is Jake Mitchell, a young firefighter in Wildfire.

Mary Davis and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of The Ranchero's Love, by Nancy Farrier, is:
ourgod1-hisdaughter@...
Congratulations! I'll contact you to ask whether you want the paper or e-book version, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Mary Davis, author of the historical romance, The Widow’s Plight (Mountain Brook Ink, release July 2018).

She’s a member of ACFW and active in critique groups.
Mary lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband of over thirty-three years and two cats. She has three adult children and two incredibly adorable grandchildren.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I make porcelain dolls. I have always loved dolls, so when I learned that I could actually make porcelain dolls, I jumped at the chance. I have been making them on and off for over thirty years.

One of my favorite porcelain dolls I made was a Surprise Doll. It has a regular porcelain doll on the top, but the skirt base is made of wood with doors to open up to reveal a scene and is covered with the dress fabric. For a twist, I thought it would be fun to put a dollhouse inside of a doll. I love the way it turned out.
One of my friends put a bridal boutique inside the bride skirt, another put an outdoors-wintery scene inside a snow princess, and another a 50s diner inside the poodle skirt. The possibilities are endless.
What a clever (and time consuming) idea!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of The Widow's Plight.

Washington State, 1893
When Lily Lexington Bremmer arrives in Kamola with her young son, she’s reluctant to join the social center of her new community, the quilting circle, but the friendly ladies pull her in. She begins piecing a sunshine and shadows quilt because it mirrors her life. She has a secret that lurks in the shadows and hopes it doesn’t come out into the light. Dark places in her past are best forgotten, but her new life is full of sunshine. Will her secrets cast shadows on her bright future?
Widower Edric Hammond and his father are doing their best to raise his two young daughters. He meets Lily and her son when they arrive in town and helps her find a job and a place to live. Lily resists Edric’s charms at first but finds herself falling in love with this kind, gentle man and his two darling daughters. Lily has stolen his heart with her first warm smile, but he’s cautious about bringing another woman into his girls’ lives due to the harshness of their own mother.
Can Edric forgive Lily her past to take hold of a promising chance at love?
What is it about Lily that will make your readers care about her?
Though Lily has been battered on the inside as well as the outside, she is kind and caring to others and will do anything to protect her young son. And even though she’s fearful because of her past, she is brave for her son. She’s a broken individual who is trying to put her life back together.
Imagine you’ve been contracted to write a novel about a real person. Who would you most like to write about?
Many possibilities come to mind, but I think it would be fun to write about Little Curly Top Shirley Temple Black (1928-2014). I loved her movies when I was young and still like them. She was a very talented little girl. Besides being an actress, singer, and dancer from the age of three, she became a businesswoman and diplomat.
Well, I have to admit that your answer brought back memories of watching reruns of Shirley Temple movies as a kid, and I just spent a good hour reading all about her on Wikipedia! That would make an excellent novel.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Beauty and the Beast: Lost in a Book by Jennifer Donnelly. It’s a story about Belle while she’s held in the Beast’s castle. Belle finds herself pulled into the pages of an enchanted book. This is a bit like another book I like with this same idea of going inside a book, The Well of Lost Plots (Thursday Next Series) by Jasper Fforde.
I love this idea of entering a book and roaming around. Much like good stories do when reading them, I feel as though I'm transported to the worlds within.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on book 2 in this Quilting Circle series, The Daughter’s Predicament. Pressured by her family to marry, an oldest sister has three marriage proposals and a family secret to confuse her decision.
Isabelle is the unfavored daughter. While making a quilt for her own hope chest, her half-sister becomes pregnant out of wedlock and Isabelle becomes the sacrificial daughter. She is interested in one suitor when her family tells her she must marry another. But a silent suitor waits in the wings, hoping for his chance at love. Will Isabelle marry the man her parents wish her to? Or will she rebel and marry the man they don’t approve of? Or will a patient love win over her heart?

Nancy Farrier and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free e-copy of Ransom of the Heart, by Susan Page Davis, is:
shuqueen@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Nancy Farrier, author of the Christian historical romance, The Ranchero’s Love (River Ink Press, June 2018).

When she isn’t writing, Nancy loves spending time with her family, riding her bicycle, hiking, reading and doing needlecraft of some sort. She has been very active in her church, teaching the Women’s Bible study and playing the piano on the worship team. Nancy loves her rescue cats and hopes to someday adopt a rescue dog.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I love bicycling. I enjoy going early in the morning and riding between 20 and 25 miles. This year, I participated for the 3rd time in the Great Cycle Challenge, a June ride that raises money to fight cancer specific to children. In the past three years I’ve ridden over 800 miles and raised over $1500 dollars. I love combining something I love to do with a cause I am passionate about.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of The Ranchero's Love.

Lucio wants to marry. However, Rosalinda, the only woman he’s ever been attracted to, doesn’t meet the ideals he’s set for his future wife. When he discovers she, and her adorable brood, are accompanying him to his sister and brother-in-law’s, he objects. An objection that is overruled.
When secrets from Lucio’s past are exposed, and Rosalinda faces choices no woman should have to make, will their growing love, and their faith, survive?
What is it about Rosalinda that will make your readers care about her?
Rosalinda’s mother made the choice to sacrificed Rosalinda while keeping Rosalinda’s sister. Since being sold to one evil man and then another and another, Rosalinda hasn’t known kindness from anyone. She has developed a hardened exterior to deal with the hurts life has thrown at her. But, deep down, she only wants to be loved and accepted for who she is.
Oh, that does make one empathetic to her. Intriguing.
Imagine you’ve been contracted to write a novel about a real person. Who would you most like to write about?
This is a hard question because I’m so used to dealing with fictional characters in a fictional world. Yet, each character is based on some very real traits as I try to work through how a person would deal with the conflicts life throws at us.
I have a friend who comes to mind. She isn’t famous, but is very accomplished. She started her own successful business and was always a joy to everyone who worked with her. Then she was diagnosed with a debilitating disease. She no longer has her business and works two jobs to support herself. She often struggles to keep up with medical bills and other life problems. Many times her disease flares up and she can’t do anything due to the debilitating pain.
So, why would I write about her? Because I have never seen her when she isn’t smiling. She always cares so much about others and wants to know how she can help or what she can do for you. Her attitude in the midst of strife is something I admire. She loves God, loves others, and loves life no matter what is thrown at her.
That is the person I would write about.
Excellent. And what a rare woman.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Just one? How do you narrow a huge list to one book? I had to think about this one for days. I read Long Way Gone by Charles Martin and loved the story. I’ve loved all his books, but the music theme in this one and the redemption story spoke to me. I highly recommend Martin’s books, but especially Long Way Gone.
What are you working on now?
I am finishing a novella set in the same time period as my novels, Bandolero and The Ranchero’s Love. Esclava (Slave), will introduce new characters, Maya and Yaniv. Maya’s stepfather auctions her off because he is desperate for money. Yaniv buys her to set her free. But, will he be free from this woman whose plight catches at his heart? Will she ever understand the meaning of true freedom?

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
My Land of Promise series, Bandolero, and The Ranchero’s Love, take place in 1830’s California, which was then Mexico. I use Spanish words and phrases in the books, but provide a glossary. Does the use of Spanish in the story hinder your enjoyment? Does the time period intrigue you? Oops, that is two questions. I would love to hear your answers. Thank you.
Thank you, Nancy, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your book. Readers, Nancy has offered to give away an e-copy or a print copy of her novel (winner's choice). Susan Page Davis and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free e-copy of Chase, by Glenn Haggerty, is:
paulalipper@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's revisit with novelist Susan Page Davis, author of the new mystery novel, Ransom of the Heart (Tea Tin Press, June 2018).

Susan is the author of more than 80 published novels and novellas, in the mystery, suspense, and historical romance genres. She’s a winner and four-time finalist of the Carol Award; winner of two Will Rogers Medallions; a two-time winner of the FHL Readers’ Choice Award; and finalist in the WILLA Literary Awards.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
My father was a game warden, and as a result people sometimes brought him injured or orphaned wildlife, which made for some unusual temporary pets.
I'd love to hear more about that. I would imagine that would nurture a kind heart toward wildlife.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Ransom of the Heart.

A few hours later, his sister-in-law Abby stumbles upon a body at Hobart Chevrolet. Her husband, Peter, is missing, and the Priority Unit turns out to investigate. When she finally gets a call demanding ransom, Harvey goes into high gear to set up a ransom drop. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned when they try to deliver the money.
Meanwhile Peter and Abby’s little boys agonize over their father. Harvey’s wife, Jennifer, does her best to support Abby and their other sister, Leeanne, who is gearing up for her first book signing, and Detective Tony Winfield hopes his idea for a first date will appeal to the chief’s new secretary. His cousin Amy’s getting married, and he needs a date for the wedding, but Tony forgets to reveal one crucial bit of information.
What is it about Abby that will make your readers care about her?
Abby Hobart is a new stepmom who is not too confident in that role. When her husband is kidnapped, her family is there to support her, but it’s up to her to assure the boys that everything’s going to work out. She can’t promise Andy and Gary their dad will come home, but Abby must dig deep and find a way to let them know that no matter what happens, their family is rock solid.
Imagine you’ve been contracted to write a novel about a real person. Who would you most like to write about?
John Alden, Mayflower passenger. He’s an ancestor of mine, and I wish there was more information available about him.
Fascinating! It does sound as if you've already done some digging.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The Face of the Earth , by Deborah Raney. It’s a wonderful relationship novel set against a mystery.
What are you working on now?
I’m writing a western novella and also a cozy mystery. I can work back and forth so long as the two projects are set in different time periods.

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
In this story, Harvey offers his handkerchief to Abby to wipe her tears. She seems surprised that anyone still carries one. Can you think of other items that could seem old-fashioned to young people?
Thank you, Susan, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your book. Readers, Susan has offered to give away an e-copy of her novel. If you already have this installment in the series, Susan is happy to give away any other book in the Maine Justice series. To enter, leave a comment and your email below in answer to Susan's question, above. "Please enter me" won't get you entered. Glenn Haggerty and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the signed copy of A Rebel Heart, by Beth White, is:
lhanberry1@...
Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's visit with novelist Glenn Haggerty, author of the action adventure/mystery suspense novel, Chase , Intense Book 3 (Freshwater Publications, April 2018).

He is a member of ACFW (American Christian Fiction Writers), a graduate of Vision Loss Resources and Bethel Seminary, the father of six and grandfather of seven. Glenn likes tandem biking, kayaking, and daydreaming and lives in Minneapolis with his wife.
He is also an award-winning author with short stories published in Splickety, Havok, Cadet Quest and Partners. Chase, the third book in his Intense series was released on April 1, 2018.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I’ve hit both the California and the Florida beaches. I’m not going to say which is better.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Chase.

But Tyler has underestimated the power and raw evil that is about to be unleashed against him.
There are lots of twists and turns and character surprises as Tyler and his friends come face to face with organized evil. Faith and courage are tested to the max, and many lessons are learned regarding life and friendships.
What is it about Tyler that will make your readers care about him?
I think Tyler embodies the contradictions of many 13-year-old boys. Wanting to be included, wanting to be the hero, but still cowed by fear. Naïve and self deprecating, he is also stubborn and tenacious. He struggles to figure out another complex facet of friendship even as he struggles to figure out where girls fit, if they fit, into his life. In the end he learns to apply faith, and God does some extraordinary things through him.
Imagine you’ve been contracted to write a novel about a real person. Who would you most like to write about?
Billy Graham.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The Frozen Hours: A Novel of the Korean War , by Jeff Shaara. It was well researched and also well written. Through it I better understand the Korean War and the world as we know it today.
I read his Gods and Generals. You're right--the man is an excellent researcher and writer. What are you working on now?
My next book in the Intense series is tentatively titled, Hyde, which follows the theme of the first three books and once again also serves as the name of the main antagonist. It is set in Florida where Tyler is vacationing with his cousins. Once again, they get caught up in a mysterious disappearance that has to do with modern day pirates and treasure buried in plain sight. I’ve done some research on the Spanish gold fleet of 1715 and discovered some interesting possibilities.
