And now let's visit with novelist Linda Rondeau, author of the futuristic political thriller, The Fifteenth Article (Elk Lake Publishing, Inc., 2017).

Watch for her upcoming release, Hosea’s Heart. How much does forgiveness require? A minister searches for his drug-addicted runaway wife. When they reunite, she is dying. She wants forgiveness. He seeks purpose. Time is running out. Also published by Elk Lake Publishing, Inc.
A veteran social worker, the author resides in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I’m one lucky woman. Since he retired, my spouse of over forty years has decided to become a house husband. I’m royally spoiled.
Excellent! We should all be so blessed.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of The Fifteenth Article.

Edwin Rowlands, current governor of Western America Province, is slated to replace the ailing President. His climb to power will give him the votes to pass his proposed Preservation Act, or The Fifteenth Article. This legislation would make defection to the outworlds, once a right under The Accord, an act of treason, both past and present, punishable by death without trial.
Factions arise in opposition to the proposed legislation and civil war is threatened. Ahmed Fared, Edwin Rowlands’ second, prays to a power higher than he for wisdom to prevent a war that will plunge United Earth into a third dark age.
Fascinating premise, Linda.
What is it about Ahmed that will make your readers care about him?
Ahmed Fared is prince among two worlds. Respected by all the political parties within United Earth’s Constitutional Government, Ahmed is also revered as Ambassador the Western America outworld, led by his adoptive brother Jacob Goodayle.
However, his divided loyalties bring him into conflict with his superior, a deluded dictator who sees himself as mankind’s savior. However, Ahmed knows him to be humanity’s greatest threat.
What does honor require him to do? Caught between loyalties, Ahmed is brought to his knees, and asks for wisdom from a power greater than he.
What initially planned facet of a story or character developed or changed while you wrote?
As this story developed, I saw historic parallels between the American struggle for independence from a tyrannical king and the Western America Province’s struggle to break away from United Earth and form their own government. Jacob Goodayle became a Thomas Jefferson … a philosopher thrust into leadership by the times in which he lived.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Carol McCain’s Waters of Separation . This book expertly demonstrates the conflict most Christians face in their desire to serve and a past that weighs down their passion.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on an Adirondack Suspense series for clean general fiction. The first book, Collins Bend Legacy, is completed. A widow is hired by a former lover, a college history professor, to help him research for his book on Adirondack Railroad Development. While researching Railroad tycoon Edwin Wordsworth, they stumble upon clues to unravel the 150-year old mystery of his death and his wife’s disappearance.

Renee Ryan and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the signed copy of Their Amish Reunion by Lenora Worth, is:
jdmfirefly@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to participate in future book give-aways! Subscribers are entered a second time when they comment.
And now let's visit with novelist Renee Ryan, author of the women's fiction/romance, 223 Orchard Street (Amazon’s Waterfall Press, April 2018).

After graduating college with a degree in Economics and Religion she explored various career opportunities at a Florida theme park and a modeling agency. She moved on to teach high school Economics, American Government, and Latin while coaching award-winning cheerleading teams. Renee now writes for Amazon's Waterfall Press.
Quite a varied background, Renee! Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I had dinner with Oprah. Yes, that Oprah! We discussed her movie Beloved along with the director Jonathon Demme and five other guests. A once in a lifetime experience, to be sure. I have pictures. ☺
I'd love to hear how that came about. Maybe you could encapsulate it in the comments later!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of 223 Orchard Street.

It isn’t until Katie begins serving the sick in the depressed slums of the Bowery alongside Dr. Titus Brentwood that she discovers her true calling. Meanwhile, fate directs the vulnerable Shannon down an unsettling path that could put her life at risk.
As Katie’s and Ty’s selflessness and devotion turn into something deeper, Ty must make a choice that could save one O’Connor sister at the expense of losing the other. But Katie hasn’t come this far to let go now. She’ll do anything to save Shannon and hold on to the man she’s come to love.
What is it about Katie that will make your readers care about her?
Katie is a woman determined to better her lot in life and those of her loved ones. She understands hard work, knows the battle she faces to pull herself out of poverty. Her optimism wavers, she has disagreements with her family, but she remains constant. No sacrifice is too great. I think every woman can relate to that kind of devotion to the people we love.
What initially planned facet of a story or character developed or changed while you wrote?
Originally, this book was supposed to be a light-hearted historical romance. However, as I began digging deeper into the immigration experience during the turn of the twentieth century I couldn’t gloss over the hardships these brave people endured. The story turned a bit more serious.
And then Katie’s younger sister Shannon showed up on the page and I knew I wanted to explore the dynamic between these two. Add in a cousin and an ailing aunt and soon the women took over the story. The hero had his own story to tell.
I love where this book took me, both in my storytelling and my understanding of the immigrant experience.
Yes, it's wonderful when a story surprises even the author. I've had times when I finished a novel and then couldn't believe what I had planned in my early notes. I use an outline, typically, but that doesn't mean characters and situations won't take you somewhere else!
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The Lake House by Kate Morton. Kate’s writing is beautiful, both lyrical and yet very readable. I found myself both immersed in the story and mesmerized by the language. I highly recommend any of Kate’s books. I’m such a fangirl. I would love to meet her someday.
I haven't read any of her books. Her plots sound intriguing. Thanks for the recommendation!
What are you working on now?
I’m working on another Women’s Fiction set in WWII during the Nazi occupation in the Champagne region. I’m exploring how far a woman will go to safeguard her family. 223 Orchard Street had a similar theme, but the stakes are much higher during times of war. When survival is on the table, the line between right and wrong becomes blurred. I’m feeling quite challenged.

Lenora Worth and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the e-copy of False Pride by Veronica Heley, is:
von1janet@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to participate in future book give-aways! Subscribers are entered a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Lenora Worth, author of the contemporary Amish novel, Their Amish Reunion (Love Inspired, April 2018).

She enjoys long walks on the beach, reading and shoe shopping.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I grew up on a farm. I can drive a tractor and I can pull corn and pick peanuts. Or at least, I used to be able to do those things.
Oh, I'll bet that all comes back as easily as remembering how to ride a bike. I would imagine your upbringing influences your stories from time to time.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Their Amish Reunion.

Years ago, Jeremiah Weaver did the unthinkable: left the Amish—and her—for the Navy SEALs. Now the prodigal hero wants redemption from his community, his family and from the woman he never forgot. He was once a warrior, but now becoming Ava’s husband and giving his heart back to God are his ultimate missions.
What is it about your lead characters that will make your readers care about them?
Ava Jane is a strong Amish woman who follows the tenets of her faith. Jeremiah is a strong man who felt the need to do his duty and avenge a friend’s death at war. He needs forgiveness and the peace of becoming Amish again. But she is afraid she can’t forgive him for not only leaving her, but for fighting battles.
This story is about ultimate sacrifice and ultimate forgiveness.
What initially planned facet of a story of character developed or changed while you wrote?
I pretty much saw this story in my head but I wanted to convey the truth of forgiveness. I had to break Jeremiah down before he could find true forgiveness, which meant he had to forgive himself. I realized that and it strengthened the ending, I think.
What an excellent point about forgiveness. I know many people who believe God forgives them, but they struggle to forgive themselves.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Right now I’m reading Katie Ganshert’s The Art of Losing Yourself . I’d recommend it because readers will identify with the two sisters in the book. It’s a wonderful story.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on my next Amish book for Love Inspired and a short romance for Tule Publishing.
Where else can readers find you online?

The book can be purchased online via the following button:
Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
I’d like to know what really draws them into a book and if they could write a book, what would it be like?
Thank you, Lenora, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your book. Readers, Lenora has offered to give away a signed copy of her novel. Veronica Heley and Free Books!

Before we focus on today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the signed copy of Breaking News by Susan Page Davis, is:
momrain@...
Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address and, assuming you live in the U.S., we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to participate in future book give-aways! Subscribers are entered a second time when they comment.
And now let's revisit novelist Veronica Heley, author of the English cozy mystery, False Pride (Severn House, December 2017).

She’s involved with her local church and community affairs, likes to break for coffee with friends and does the garden when she has time.
Share with us one thing the reader might not know about you.
I play Patience with real cards to unwind.
I had to look up that game, Veronica! Here in the States we call that Solitaire. I haven't played it in ages, but I used to be addicted, also with real cards. I play Sudoku to unwind now, and it's actually more fun to play that game electronically.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of False Pride.

Caught up in the chaos is Bea’s ex-husband Piers, who finds a body in his hall . . . and that’s not the only corpse that comes to light over a tense weekend.
Booklist has given False Pride an excellent review, concluding: "there are enough bizarre twists and sparkly characters to make for an endearing, entertaining read."
Publishers Weekly says: "Those fond of darker English cozies will find much to savor."
Why should the reader care about Bea?
Bea cares about people and always tries to see the best in them, while acknowledging that bad things do happen even to the nicest people. She is willing to provide food and a bed for people who are genuinely in trouble, but threats stiffen her resolve to do the right thing.
What initially planned facet of a story of character developed or changed while you wrote?
Bea’s ex-husband Piers has been wandering in and out her life for some years, and at first I couldn’t understand the reason for his being so persistent but gradually I came to understand the reason why their early marriage broke down . . . and what he wants to do about it now.
That a fun tease.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The last book I read which is worth talking about is, Princes at War by Deborah Cadbury. It is more of a biography than a novel but an easy read, being the story of the four sons of George V before and during the Second World War. It is well researched, factual and convincing about the extraordinary lives of the man who gave up his kingdom for the love of the American Wallis Simpson, of the brother who feared he wasn’t up to the job of succeeding him, and of their playboy younger siblings, who both proved their worth in a crisis. There was a lot here that I didn’t know. I could even have done with another chapter or two to tell what happened to the brothers after the war was over.
The show called The Crown has generated a lot of interest here with regard to Elizabeth's reign. I'm a big fan. Princes sounds like a good read about the era before Elizabeth.
What are you working on now?
I’m now working on another Bea Abbot story, which will be published at the end of the year. This is called False Account and will also be about money and family relationships, but although there is at least one death, I am writing a good deal about loyalties in a family and how an elderly woman can be bullied into handing over her money – or can she?
Before that, I have another Ellie Quicke book to come out at the end of June this year, called Murder by Suggestion. A group of women joke about how to kill their spouses, only to find the jokes have been taken seriously, and they themselves thrown out onto the street . . . or rather, how they end up in Ellie’s house with all their belongings.
Where else can readers find you online?
My website is www.veronicaheley.com. There is also a blog. And, if you would like to receive my monthly newsletter containing news and views, then you can have it sent to you, free, through the contact on the home page.
The book can also be purchased online via the following Amazon button:
Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
Every year I personally get a little older, but Ellie and Bea remain the age at which I first wrote about them. I am now writing the nineteenth Ellie Quicke mystery, and the thirteenth Bea Abbot, and they have not aged at all. Does this matter, do you think?
Thank you, Veronica, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your book. Readers, Veronica has offered to give away a e-copy of her novel. Bonus Post: Free Four-Novella E-Book!

This four-novella collection is available in print as well, but we're giving away the e-version this week, and I wanted to let my subscribers know.
The common theme between these four novellas is that the romance develops between people who are adversaries at the beginning of their stories.
Here's a little more information about each one:
Lassoed by LoveBy Miralee Ferrell
Lindsey Morgan loves her life—too bad she can no longer afford it. The exclusive boutique she managed recently closed. Ready for a new adventure, she accepts a job at a resort. What could go wrong working at a gift shop and laying by a pool during her off hours? What Lindsey didn’t expect was Steven Graham, her high-school crush showing up—as her new boss. Steven isn’t the shy, red-neck teen she’d known six years ago. He’s somehow morphed into a gorgeous, aloof, more refined man. Too bad he thinks she's still the spoiled cheerleader he thought had snubbed him, but she’d change that assumption if it killed her—and with the new job description she’d been handed, it just might!
Designed with LoveBy Kimberly Rose Johnson
To save her fledgling landscape business, Jessie Morgan is determined to win an important design competition--even though her major competitors are ex-fiancé Brendon Jacobs and one-time best friend Scott Meyers. Tensions are high in the quaint town of Silver Spring, Oregon as neighbors and friends take sides. Will Brendon drive Jessie and Scott farther apart, or will they join forces...and find love in the process?
More Than Meets the EyeBy Trish Perry
Jensy St. Martin is not pleased when she recognizes the latest ad man to join the Washington, D. C. agency she has long considered her professional home. Phil Quinn was a cocky, love-’em-and-leave-’em type when they attended the same high school ten years ago, and she senses he hasn’t changed much since then. When the two ad designers are forced to work together on a campaign, Jensy learns more than she wants to know about the man, and his growing attractiveness becomes the least of her worries.
Hungry HeartsBy Debby Mayne
When Cameron Prater returns to Hyacinth, South Carolina, to open a restaurant a few doors down from his childhood sweetheart Melissa Shaw's diner, they are both reminded of the fierce competitiveness that drove them apart. They even try to outdo each other while volunteering for a women's shelter that their church sponsors, and they deny the fact that the sparks that brought them together years ago still zing. Can these two people put aside their rivalry—and their pride—and let their hearts take over?

And now let's revisit novelist Susan Page Davis, author of the mystery novel, Breaking News (Tea Tin Press, Print Release March 2018).

Susan grew up in the state of Maine, where her father was a game warden. She now lives in western Kentucky. She and her husband Jim have six grown children and ten grandchildren.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I hate to cook, but I have won prizes for my baking—most notably, zucchini bread.
I love veggie breads! My one foray into zucchini bread was a mushy disaster, so I bow to your prize-winning expertise.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Breaking News.

Kurt’s wife Janet finds an elderly neighbor ill in his home. The old man, Elwood Fairmont, begs Janet to give a cryptic message to his grown children. Elwood’s children gather, but their father’s words mystify them. Was what he told Janet a dying confession?
Kurt assigns bright young reporter Dave Carpenter to write about Mick’s disappearance. When Dave investigates the story his colleague was pursuing, Kurt’s life is threatened. Janet finds a clue that makes them wonder: Are Elwood’s regrets and Mick’s disappearance connected to things that happened decades ago?
To unravel the close-woven mysteries, Kurt and Janet must rely on their faith and use all their wits and diplomatic skills.
What is it about Janet Borden that will make your readers care about her?
Janet cares about other people. She is an empty-nest mom who gave up her job to move with her husband to his new one, and she has some time on her hands. She uses that to minister to people who need it.
What have you learned about yourself as a result of your writing career?
I can do things I never expected to be able to do, so long as God is in it.
Yes, I always find myself coming back to ask God for guidance about what He wants me to do. It gives me peace that He'll orchestrate my path.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
Sibella Giorello’s Stone and Sunset . I love her Raleigh Harmon mystery series, and this latest episode did not disappoint. This one features Raleigh as a teenager and her genius friend, Drew, who had appeared in a couple of the earliest books. I wondered what had happened to Drew, who is a “difficult friend,” and was glad she made a reappearance.
What are you working on now?
I am writing book 7 in the Maine Justice series, and I just finished up Book 25 in the Tearoom Mysteries, Tea and Promises, the final book of the series.

And now let's chat with novelist Vickie McDonough, author of the Historical Christian romance novella, Partners in Crime, in the collection: Seven Brides for Seven Texas Rangers (Barbour Publishing, March 2018).

Vickie is the award-winning author of more than 45 published books and novellas, with over 1.5 million copies sold. Her novels include End of the Trail, winner of the OWFI 2013 Booksellers Best Fiction Novel Award. Song of the Prairie won the 2015 Inspirational Readers Choice Award. Gabriel’s Atonement, book 1 in the Land Rush Dreams series, placed second in the 2016 Will Rogers Medallion Award.
Vickie has recently stepped into independent publishing.
She has been married for forty-two years to Robert. They have four grown sons, one daughter-in-law, and a precocious granddaughter. When she’s not writing, Vickie enjoys reading, antiquing, doing stained glass, watching movies, and traveling.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
Many years ago, my husband and I live on a kibbutz in Israel for a year. We celebrated our first anniversary in Jerusalem.
How romantic!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Partners in Crime.

Though highly skilled at etching silver and gold jewelry, Laurel knows she doesn’t have the expertise to do what she’s been told to do. Her only option is to stall and try to win over the handsome but reticent outlaw guarding her—or to escape.
But can she escape without the kind bandit stealing her heart?
What is it about Micah that will make your readers care about him?
Micah is an honorable man who’s not afraid to put his life on the line to protect others.
What have you learned about yourself as a result of your writing career?
All my life I jumped from one thing to another because I love learning new things. I thought of myself as a sprinter—doing one thing for a short while then something else. When I started writing, I really wondered if I would have enough determination to write a whole book. Well, I surprised myself. I really believe God led me to become a writer, and with Him on your side, you can accomplish a whole lot.
Amen to that, Vickie!
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I love to read, but we have spent the past two months moving, cleaning out the old house, and setting up for a huge downsizing sale. On top of that, I’ve been reading through my Oklahoma Brides trilogy, which I got the rights back on. I’m going to self-publish it, but since it was the first series I wrote and my writing has improved since then, I’ve been making some changes. I honesty can’t even remember the last book I read. I can tell you that most of the books I read are historical romances. I love anything by Karen Witemeyer or Lacy Williams.
What are you working on now?
I’m writing a new novella called A Day Late and A Dollar Short, which is part of The Runaway Bride Collection. It’s the story of a young woman fleeing an unwanted arranged marriage by becoming a mail-order bride, but when she arrives in town, she discovers her intended married someone else the day before she arrived. With no money to travel further, she’s stuck in the tiny Texas town. The Runaway Bride Collection releases January 2019.

And now let's chat with novelist Kimberly Rose Johnson, author of the contemporary romance, The Reluctant Groom (Independently Published, March 2018).

From a young child Kimberly has been an avid reader. That love of reading fostered a creative mind and led to her passion for writing. She especially loves romance and writes contemporary romance that warms the heart and feeds the soul.
Kimberly holds a degree in Behavioral Science from Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington, and is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I’ve been thinking about traveling a lot lately but one thing holds me back. Although I love to be at my travel destination, the process of getting there makes me think twice about going at all. LOL I want someone to make a real transporter so I can travel without having to drive or fly to get there.
You and me both. The more I travel, the less it bothers me, but it's still not my favorite thing to do!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of The Reluctant Groom.

When Ray O’Brien’s world is turned upside down, Katie Fairchild wants to help, but the personal cost is high. Neither desires a marriage of convenience, but when Katie blurts the first thing that comes to her mind Ray can’t dismiss her offer of marriage. It would solve all his problems except for one thing—they aren’t in love.
Can these two friends team up for the greater good and perhaps find love along the way, or are their expectations impossible?
What is it about your lead characters that will make your readers care about them?
Ray is an all around great human being. He cares about others before himself and it shows in his everyday life. Katie pulls at my heartstrings. She had it rough growing up and in spite of everything she has going against her she manages to keep moving forward.
What have you learned about yourself as a result of your writing career?
That’s a great question! I’ve actually learned a lot. A couple of things I’ve learned are that I’m a self-starter, and I’m not afraid of putting myself out there. When I first started writing I wanted to write romantic suspense. I had some questions so I went straight to the sources—the FBI and the CIA. People were shocked that I would do that.
I've done that with the NRA for historic gun information, and the California Marine Biology Institute for help with marine life for one of my settings. I was surprised by how helpful those agencies and organizations can be.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I am currently reading The Broken Trail by Christa MacDonald. It really holds my interest, and I’m drawn into the story so much so that I think about it when my mind isn’t otherwise occupied. Every time I have a change to sit down and read it again it’s like revising old friends. It takes me a couple weeks to finish a book due to time constraints.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the second book in a contracted series with Mountain Brook Ink, that will begin releasing this June. The series is a romantic mystery.
Where else can readers find you online?
The best place to find me is my website where I have links to all my social media.

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
If you enjoy traveling either abroad or in the US where do you recommend going and why? I have spring fever, and I like to dream about traveling.
Thank you, Kimberly, for visiting and telling us about yourself and your book. Readers, Kimberly has offered to give away an e-copy of her novel. Susan Sleeman and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the signed copy of The Man He Never Was, by James L. Rubart, is:

Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to participate in future book give-aways! Subscribers are entered a second time when they comment.
And now let's chat with novelist Susan Sleeman, author of the romantic suspence novel, Kill Shot (Hachette/FaithWords, February 2018).

She graduated from the FBI and local police citizen academies, so her research is spot-on and her characters are real.
In addition to writing, Susan also hosts thesuspensezone.com. She has lived in nine states but now calls Oregon home. Her husband is a retired church music director, and they have two beautiful daughters, a very special son-in-law, and an adorable grandson.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
Oh, this is a really big change in my life. Everyone who knows me knows I’m a computer nerd and was an avid Windows user. In fact, I have had a MacBook for two years, which I bought for the quality of the machine. But…but, I ran Windows on the Mac. What few people know is that I just quit using Windows and have embraced the Mac operating system. Yes, you can teach old dogs new tricks. LOL
As an old dog, myself, I can tell you you'll never go back! I love my Mac.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Kill Shot.

As the ballistics and weapon's expert for the FBI's special task force nicknamed the White Knights, Rick Cannon has known the Department of Defense was developing self-steering bullets. Rick feared these smart bullets--which have one hundred percent accuracy that can turn even a novice into a lethal sniper--would eventually end up in the hands of the wrong people. But since the ammunition was still in the development stage, he figured they had plenty of time before that happened. He was wrong. Dead wrong.
When a homeless vet is killed with a smart bullet, it's clear that the ammunition has been stolen, and the Knights are called in to find the thief and stop the killings. But they aren't the only ones desperate to find the killer. Therapist Olivia Dobbs is well known for her success in counseling military veterans with PTSD. When she discovers one of her clients moments after he is murdered, she becomes both the FBI's prime witness, and suspect.
Despite the mutual attraction that immediately sparks between them, Rick can't--no he won't--let Olivia interfere with his investigation. But when the sniper trains his rifle on her, Rick must recall all the skills he learned as a Marine sniper to make sure the next bullet fired isn't a kill shot that takes Olivia out.
What is it about your lead characters that will make your readers care about them?
Olivia, my female lead in Kill Shot is a counselor who works with PTSD sufferers. She is compassionate, empathetic, and yet, at the same time she’s a very strong woman. Readers will see her heart for helping others, and they will see her help the book’s hero, Rick come to grips with his past struggles. And they will also see that, although she is a counselor, she doesn’t have her own life together, which makes her more relatable.
What have you learned about yourself as a result of your writing career?
I have learned that I can be very self-directed and self-motivated. I don’t need a supervisor to keep me working, I can do that for myself as my love for writing keeps me creating books.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I read Lynette Eason’s Chasing Secrets . I recommend it because she writes wonderful romantic suspense books with interesting plots and great characters.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on two series right now. One is called McKade Law and is published by Love Inspired Suspense. This focuses on a family of law enforcement officers in Texas and the next book, Rodeo Standoff releases in May.
The other project I am working on is a series called Cold Harbor. This is an indie published series that has been really well received by readers. I just finished book three, Cold Fury and it will release in March. I am currently plotting book four, Cold Case. This series features, Blackwell Tactical – a law enforcement training, investigative and protection services agency made up of former military and law enforcement heroes whose injuries keep them from the line of duty. When trouble strikes, there’s no better team to have on your side, and they would give everything, even their lives, to protect innocents.

James Rubart and Free Books!

Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the signed copy of As Bright as Heaven, by Susan Meissner, is:
dobeworld@...
Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to participate in future book give-aways! Subscribers are entered a second time when they comment.
And now let's chat with novelist James L. Rubart, author of the psychological thriller (with a Christian supernatural element--or supernatural suspense), The Man He Never Was (HarperCollins Christian Publishing, February 2018).

He lives with his amazing wife on a small lake in Washington.
May I interject here that many of us suspect Jim truly is 28 years old. He's not joking about the sports in which he engages. He's always been energy personified, and that spills over into his imaginative story ideas.
Jim, please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
A 20,000 pound, 130 foot tree crashed through our home in 2014, almost killing my wife and youngest son, but it led to a profound working of God in our lives, as well as the chance to live next door to Viggo Mortenson (Aragorn from Lord of the Rings) for three months in a hotel while he was filming a movie, and our home was being rebuilt. In case you’re curious, Viggo is a wonderful person.
Where can I sign up for the near-death-meet-Viggo experience, please?
Tell us a bit more about the plot of The Man He Never Was.

Toren Daniels vanished eight months back, and his wife and kids have moved on—with more than a little relief. Toren was a good man, but carried a raging temper that often exploded without warning. So when he shows up on their doorstep with no notice, they’re shocked to see him alive. But more shocked to see he’s changed. Radically.
His anger is gone. He’s oddly patient. Kind. Fun. The man he always wanted to be. Toren has no clue where he’s been, but knows he’s been utterly transformed. He focuses on three things: Finding out where he’s been. Finding out how it happened. And winning back his family.
But then shards of his old self start to rise up from deep inside—the man kicked out of the NFL for his fury—and Toren must face the supreme battle of his life.
In this fresh take on the classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story, James L. Rubart explores the war between good and evil within each of us—and one man’s only chance to overcome the greatest divide of the soul.
You see what I mean, readers? How cool is that story premise? My book club read Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this past year, and we saw so many Christian elements featured in the doctor's struggle.
What is it about Toren that will make your readers care about him?
He’s you. He’s me. He’s anyone that has said—as Paul famously said in Romans 7—“I do the thing I hate.” So I think readers will care because they’ll see themselves in Toren, and maybe in his wife Sloane as well, who has to deal with the dark parts of Toren.
Share with us a quote you like from a book other than yours.
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
—Gandalf in The Fellowship of the Ring
Why do you like the quote?
We live in an age of blaming everything and everyone around us, instead of acknowledging that we have choice, in every moment. Choice how to view our circumstances, choice on what kind of attitude to have, choice how we spend our time. We get to decide. I liked being reminded of that.
I agree, and so much of that choice needs to be considered before circumstances call for action. The more we consider what we believe, the more prepared we are when choices have to be made.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
My son bought me East of Eden for Christmas. Not a novel I would have ever picked up on my own, but I read it to honor him and am so glad I did.
Why do you recommend it?
The sentence structure in places is beautiful. The insight into the human condition is brilliant. Great writer.
East of Eden was one of the first "literary" novels I ever read. It hooked me on the classics.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a new novel called, The Pages of Her Life, a story of a woman who finds a journal on the side of road that takes her life places she couldn’t have imagined. And I just wrapped up recording the audio version of The Man He Never Was—quite fun to do all the character’s voices and voice the book the way I heard it in my head when I wrote it.

Finally, what question would you like to ask my readers?
