Still Holding Out On Facebook Messenger

Yay! I still haven’t downloaded Facebook Messenger! I’m still using the fix I found to force Facebook to open a desktop version in a mobile browser in my phone. This has been going on since July 30, 2014.

I just like to update you now and again. Four and a quarter years or so and counting. At this rate Facebook will die before I give in.

Trying To Figure Out If I Kept Up With Flashnano Or Not

I’m trying to figure out whether I’m going to count this year as keeping up with flash nano or not (30 flash in 30 days in November). I’ve kept up on number, but the timing got confusing.

I typically follow the prompts Nancy Stohlman posts. We traveled to Ireland for a week this time. I did the flash for Friday the 16th, boarded a plane at 5pm, and flew off out of the country. I only dozed on the flight and did the flash for the 17th prompt after going to sleep and waking up in Dublin. Problem was, due to the time of travel and time zone differences, that was the 18th, even at home by then.

Now, I did catch up. I’ll still have 30 in 30 days. However, due to approximately 12 hours of flying and all that, I didn’t technically do one on the 18th.

Just trying to figure out whether to count that or not, not that it’s important either way. I’ll still have 30 flash pieces.

Okay…..

Okay…I just deleted a spam comment on here that argued people shouldn’t make spam comments.

Here’s Another Old NES Game I Miss

Here’s another old NES game I miss (yeah, I know it was a computer game first and got changed when ported to NES, but NES was the version I knew and loved):

I used to play Maniac Mansion a lot. I loved games like this, kind of like a text adventure game with a simplified GUI. I really only knew one way through the game, though I could do that with a couple different characters, but it was still fun.

I’ll probably fire up an emulator and run through it again now. I seem to do that whenever I reminisce about it.

Sometimes It Can Be Nice To Have A Stress Dream

You know, sometimes it can actually be nice to have a stress dream. You know, dreams where you get fired, or find out that the pipes in your walls have all been leaking for months, or that soccer hooligans have moved into your house and are going to beat the crap out of you if you don’t leave and the cops don’t believe it’s yours. All that kind of thing. Sometimes those are just awful, bleeding over into the waking world and dripping despair onto you once you wake up even though those things didn’t happen.

Still, sometimes they can actually work out nice. Sometimes they don’t drip that residual despair on you. Sometimes the terrible things happen in the dream and you wake up depressed, realize that none of it happened, and actually have it all fall away and feel better than you would have otherwise.

Sometimes you don’t wake up screaming.

I Just Keep Getting Up Earlier And Earlier

I just keep getting up earlier and earlier.

I used to get up at 6:15 AM. That’s when I had my alarm set for. My wife gets up later, so I’d hurry and shut it off. Then I started waking up before the alarm and would wait to shut it off. Then I’d always wake up before the alarm and shut it off. Then I started finding myself waking up somewhere after 4 or 5 AM and having trouble going back to sleep.

The most I gave in on that was 5:45 AM. Before that, I’d lay in bed and try to get back to sleep. Once 5:45 hit, I’d get up and get through any emails, all the updates on Facebook and Twitter, maybe go to the bathroom and brush my night plate and such. I’d watch the time and come back around 6:15 AM to shut off my alarm (I can either shut it off totally, which I only do on the weekends to minimize the chance I’ll forget to turn it on again later for the next day, or a shut off for now and skip to the next day, which can only be done right as the alarm goes off though if you time it JUST right you can actually get it to work without the alarm actually going off).

The problem is that this happens early in the morning when I’m groggy. I woke up and looked at my alarm to see it was that time to get up and went to the bathroom. After a good amount of time I looked to see where the time was at so I didn’t miss my alarm and piss off my wife. That’s when I noticed it was only 5:40 AM. It had only been 5:25 AM not 5:45 AM. I should have tried to at least keep dozing for 20 minutes, but now it was too late. I’d been too groggy and accidentally gotten up 20 minutes earlier than my minimum. You know what that’ll mean.

My body will just keep getting up earlier and earlier, soon even before I go to sleep.

A Trick To Eating Fewer Animals

Want to know a simple trick to eating fewer animals? It’s easy! Just eat bigger ones!

The average beef cow weighs 1700-2300 pounds, depending on the breed. The average chicken we typically eat weighs 3-10 pounds depending on the weight. That means we have to kill a lot more chicken to get the same number of meals than we do cows, dramatically.

Supposedly, chicken is healthier for you than beef…but this isn’t all about us.

Thanksgiving Animated Gifs Redux: Day Five

Olives! Day five is olives.

I was hoping for black olives from a can, but I couldn’t find an animated gif of that. Green ones from a jar were also a staple, though not fancy olives like these. Oh well, whatever.
