Perfect Side Project Has Earned Him $399,109

Peter AskewPeter AskewFounder of RanchWork $399,109+ revenue Published April 5, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty

Peter Askew is the guy behind RanchWork, a ranching job board that makes $7,400/month 🤑

He recently tweeted

can’t find a project to build?

go build a niche, boutique job board, and dote on that community like it was your god-child.

Alongside that he shared a screenshot of a Google search for “welding jobs” 👀

Sites like LinkedIn and Indeed show up atop those search results because there is no specialized job board for that kind of work.

💬 Peter adds…

results like this tell me one thing: google WANTS to rank something better. ANYTHING. but no one has built it.

the profit-margins of a job board trump every project I’ve ever run.

job boards can be built by non-coders. if you’re a coder, even better.

job boards can be built by solo builders.

they are the perfect side project, or better yet, (eventual) full-time job. you’re helping people find new, better jobs. What beats that?

He’s right: job boards can be built easily, using a platform like JobKit (free but they take a 10% cut of your earnings) or Job Boardly (paid).

For example, it took me only 10 minutes to build this demo job board for welding jobs with JobKit 💪

Of course the hard part is getting traffic.

A comment on Peter’s tweet….

Indeed and LinkedIn are very hard to outrank.

And Peter’s reply…

people said the same thing to me when I started building RanchWork.

🚀 He launched RanchWork in 2014 and has been at it ever since, steadily growing the annual revenue over the years…

$399,109.44

that’s how much RanchWork․com has generated over these past 10 years.

oh – that’s right, I shouldn’t have built it, cause they told me to focus on “one project” 🤔

Sounds like he only spends a few hours a week on it, so it’s a nice and profitable side hustle.

To start your own job, Peter recommends…

go window shop niches on Indeed, pick one that seems interesting with lots of search volume & activity, buy a good-enough .com, and get to work.

there is so much opportunity in this niche, I sometimes go 🍌🍌🍌 cause I can’t build it all.

$190K Per Year Selling ePaper Templates

ePaperTemplatesePaperTemplatesEtsy Store $190,000 estimated annual revenue Published April 5, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty

Check out ePaperTemplates, an Etsy store that provides “functional templates for ePaper tablets.”

They design and sell templates – eg. daily planners, to-do lists, calendars – for devices like reMarkable, Amazon Kindle Scribe, BOOX Note, and Supernote 😎

Per a recent profile by Capital Friday…

Shop started in 2020. Sold 64,000 units at an average price of $9 USD. So around $190k per year in revenue… For a digital product. Fulfilled by Etsy.

And here’s the interesting part. There’s only 24 items in the shop. Not 2,000 designs that can be put on a shirt or pillow. Now that’s a side hustle!

Could there be room for competitors in this niche? 🤔

Capital Friday found at least one other store that’s gaining traction…

[AFearlessVenture] started five months ago and has almost 600 sales with 19 files. The dream is still alive.

If you’re trying to do this make sure to have a starting marketing budget and put around 20% of revenue into Etsy ads to build momentum.

🧐 A quick search on YouTube can teach you how to build these templates yourself.

First step though would be to research and find out what kind of templates people are searching for, and which ePaper tablets are worth building for.

You could use tools like Alura or EtsyHunt for that 👍

His Pitch Deck Templates Make $15,000/Month

Maximilian FleitmannMaximilian FleitmannOwner of BaseTemplates $15,000 monthly revenue Published April 1, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty

Maximilian Fleitmann is an entrepreneur based in Berlin 🇩🇪 and the man behind BaseTemplates, which is a collection of pitch deck and fundraising templates.

Max shared in a recent interview

The business right now is making $15k+ per month on amazing margins.

🤑 Max didn’t actually start the business but acquired it…

In 2019 I was still operating my education startup, but was always attracted to test out new ideas. With one of these ideas, I wanted to participate in a contest. As I needed to build a pitch deck quickly, I searched for a great-looking and easy-to-use template.

And somehow, I found BaseTemplates Pitch Deck Template, bought it, and won the competition.

He adds…

Some weeks later, I found out that the guy who had initially created the product wanted to sell the whole business, and I was on fire right away.

So I jumped into the numbers right away and talked a lot with the founder about what already worked…

As a result, I made an offer right away, and luckily, we quickly agreed.

But 👇

When I took over BaseTemplates, just one product and a small content section existed. But there was already a regular stream of customers.

The first thing I did was create a plan that made it possible to 10x the business…

Almost four years later, BaseTemplates now offers a wide range of products and several free resources and tools. Not only was I able to massively increase the number of users who are coming to the website every day, but I was also able to increase the revenue massively.

Creating SEO-focused content was key…

When I took over BaseTemplates, there was mainly organic traffic which came from a couple of blog articles… I wrote 30 new blog posts and created specific pages for long-tail keywords like “Pitch Deck Business Model Slide”.

I see Max has recently introduced BaseTemplates Pro, which is a software that comes with templates, a CRM to reach out to investors, and gives you access to investor databases.

With that, Max has taken BaseTemplates from a simple template website to a multifaceted business with increasing revenue 📈

To follow in his footsteps, think about the products you buy online, especially digital products.

If you find a product you really like or with potential, you could inquire about buying the business, or perhaps start your own (better) version 💪

Free Spy Tool To Boost Your Business

👉 Check out F5Bot

a free service that emails you when your selected keywords are mentioned on Reddit, Hacker News, or Lobsters. Use it to monitor your brand, your projects, or just topics that you’re interested in.

Heard about it via this tweet from Guilherme Oenning, where he jumped in a Hacker News conversation and subtly plugged his product, resulting in a sale 😎

Could be worth trying for your product or service.

But of course don’t go overboard and use it to spam people.

Guilherme writes

I don’t plug on every notification I get, only when I feel like it’s relevant (like when they ask).

💬 Someone replied

F5bot is awesome, but not only for monitoring your mentions. I also use it to monitor similar products like me, to know what people said and check if i can do the same in a better way.

So you could also use this to keep an eye on your competition and get ideas to improve your own product or service 💡

His Blog Post Made $466 Profit in 7 Days via Facebook

Hasib AlicHasib AlicSerial Entrepreneur $466 profit in 7 days Published April 1, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty

💬 Hasib Alic tweets

Facebook arbitrage is working really well, just like in the old days.

We spent $127 in the past 7 days to boost this article on Facebook and made $593 on Mediavine. That’s a 360% ROI.

(Mediavine = Premium display ad network.)

Per Hasib’s bio, he and his team are…

Managing a portfolio of 20 content sites with 15M+ visits a month.

He also runs Strevio, which offers…

A centralized dashboard to easily track, analyze, and report on the performance of Facebook pages.

Hasib goes on to lay out how he achieved that $466 profit on one article in 7 days 🤑

(He doesn’t reveal his website or the exact article, btw.)

The first key is choosing the right article to promote 👇

1. Log into your Strevio account, select the timeline for the last 2 weeks, and sort your best-performing posts by number of clicks.

2. Check the CTR for those posts. It’s a really important metric. We look for a CTR of 5%+ to make sure the arbitrage works.

3. Visit your Mediavine/Raptive dashboard and review the RPM of these posts. It needs to be at least $30 to be effective. The higher, the better.

Hasib uses his own paid tool (Strevio) for steps 1-2, but you could probably use Facebook’s own analytics for free or another FB analytics app instead.

Next step is to create a Facebook ad to promote your article 📢

Hasib’s tips…

1. Standard link posts are the best for arbitrage

2. Target the US audience, ages 30 and above, and use really broad interests within your niche

3. Set a daily budget of $10

4. Track performance daily, comparing earnings on Mediavine against what you’ve spent on FB ads. If you see a positive ROI, gradually increase your daily budget, but do so cautiously, with a maximum of 50% daily budget increase.

5. Scaling can be approached in two ways: either increase the budget on one post or create multiple posts to boost. Both methods are effective.

I thought the days of Facebook arbitrage for bloggers were long gone, but apparently not.

And given Google’s recent updates and rise of AI, it makes sense for bloggers to diversify their traffic sources and not be so dependent on search engines.

Lastly: how about turning this idea into a service business? 🤔

Reach out to some established bloggers you like and offer to run Facebook ads for them, following Hasib’s tips above.

If they’re hesitant, tell them they only need a budget of $10/day for the ads, and you could work for free until they see results. Or figure out some kind of profit share 👍

My Big TV Appearance Last Week

Ever heard of the Today Show?

It’s a daily show on NBC in the US, with apparently 2.5 million tuning in per episode 👀

They reached out a couple of months back, inviting me to contribute to a story they were doing on affiliate marketing scams.

The 6-minute segment aired last week – watch it on YouTube 👇

I’m on screen for about 20 seconds starting at the 2:45 mark.

They reached out after finding my review of Legendary Marketer, one of the more questionable affiliate marketing courses.

Affiliates of that course can earn $1000 per sale – about as good as it gets – but our approach is to review each course honestly and fairly, even if that means lower commissions.

So in the review we write about several downsides of Legendary Marketer, and share critiques from students 😡

Because of that, I exchanged a bunch of emails with a producer from the Today Show and ended up on a call with him.

About a month later, we did a 30-minute recorded interview, a small piece of which ended up in the final segment.

I tracked the time I devoted to the whole thing and it added up to more than 8 hours.

8 hours for 20 seconds of air time 😜

I still see it as a good trade-off though; a nice feather in my cap, and a good credibility indicator for my website (I’ve added the Today logo to my site header).

One thing I said in the segment…

If you work hard at building up an affiliate marketing business for a year, not just a side hustle, the best-case scenario is that you’d be earning $1,000 a month after 12 months.

To elaborate: you can definitely be earning more than that after 12 months.

But if you get into affiliate marketing with that expectation – that $1000/month is the best-case scenario after a year – you’re far more likely to succeed, IMO.

Because most people get into it thinking they’ll be earning $1000’s in no time, work hard for a few weeks, then grow disillusioned and give up when they don’t see fast results 😩

But if you can stick with it for the long run, keep experimenting and improving your skills, the odds are in your favor.

Accidental Entrepreneur Now Earns $100K+ Per Year

Jake RossJake RossFounder of Build You Marketing $100,000 annual revenue Published March 28, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty

Jake Ross is the founder of Build You Marketing, a full service marketing agency.

Per a recent interview, Jake has grown the agency to $100K/year revenue in only 2 years 🚀

As a child, Jake was diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson syndrome and had stitches in his eyes to prevent blindness…

One day, my Mom brought in a box of sports cards. I’d open up the packs, and she’d read off the player’s name since I was unable to see.

As soon as I could see again, I would sort these pieces of cardboard every which way. I fell in love with the hobby.

👉 That led to his first online venture…

I started a YouTube channel to show off my collection and grew to over 11,500 subscribers. Through this process, I observed the power of community first hand.

Jake adds…

I am an ‘accidental’ entrepreneur.

I had already built my sports trading card community, wrote a newsletter for an organization and had a year of experience where I learned the agency business model… so I said, “I should try freelance marketing.”

Which led to him starting a marketing agency.

How he got that off the ground…

I approached my first customer and offered to write his newsletter for him. That sales call turned into me also helping him establish a presence on YouTube…

Sounds like Jake knew the newsletter well and felt confident he could do a good job taking over the writing.

I like this approach to finding client work: identify people doing work you admire, figure out a way to help them, then pitch your services 💬

Although even with that approach, don’t expect it to be easy.

As Jake writes…

As in any business, acquiring your first 5-10 customers is a difficult process. And, as a college student, you really do not have much credibility yet.

I was lucky that I found those companies and founders that were willing to take a shot on me. After that, it was a lot easier to grow.

So Jake’s gone from near blindness to building a sports card community to growing a $100K/year marketing business.

And best I can tell, he’s still in his 20’s 💪

Acquired Product: From $0 to $8K/Month in 6 Months

Tibo Louis-LucasTibo Louis-LucasOwner of Typeframes $8000 monthly recurring revenue Published March 28, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty

Tibo Louis-Lucas recently tweeted

6 months ago, I acquired Typeframes – I thought I’d lose it all.

The tool had an awfully high churn rate (around 30%).

And the space is one of the most competitive I’ve ever seen 😱

Fast forward to last month, Typeframes reached $5K [Monthly Recurring Revenue] and just crossed $8K MRR 🤯

Tibo explains what Typeframes does in another tweet

✅ create videos from text-only
✅ auto-sync with music beats
✅ generate a voice and talking avatars
✅ generate custom AI video footage
✅ access tons of video footage and animations

The goal: to make it so easy to create videos that you actually start creating some, and grow your business much more

Tibo acquired the business back in September 🤝

Unclear how much he paid, but it sounds like it was about to be abandoned by the founder so he likely got a good deal…

I wanted the tool to stay alive!

So, I made a proposal for it.

Typeframes didn’t have any recurring revenue when Tibo bought it.

But just a couple of weeks later he tweeted that it was earning $377/month…

Typeframes growing slowly! 🎉

You may wonder why it was at 0 2 weeks ago?

Because it was not a subscription model and I quickly changed that.

Current challenge: justify the subscription model and find people who constantly need to build new videos.

Typeframes was a fairly simple text-to-video tool when acquired. Then Tibo started adding AI features like talking avatars, AI video and stock footage.

He’s shared his progress via X, see all his tweets about Typeframes here 👈

To grow the business, it surely helps that Tibo has a big audience on X (114k followers).

But methinks his November launch on Product Hunt was a big turning point…

1700+ upvotes#1 product of the day#4 product of the month

Of course, that wasn’t Tibo’s first rodeo.

As you can see here, over the years he’s gained a ton of experience building products and launching them on Product Hunt 💪

One of those “overnight success” stories that was several years in the making.

Anyway, here’s an idea for you 👇

Start a service business with tools like Typeframes and Slant it.

Use them to create nice demo and promo videos for businesses.

Practice for a few weeks and get good enough to charge $500+ per video 🤑

To find your first clients: pick some businesses you admire and make some free videos for them, then reach out and ask for testimonials.

Leverage those samples and testimonials to find more clients.

Free Games Site = $13K/Month

Nigel HallNigel HallFounder of DemoSlot.com $13,000 approximate monthly revenue Published March 28, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty

Nigel Hall is the founder of DemoSlot, a site that lets you play 100s of free demo casino games 🎰

Nigel kindly shared his latest numbers with us via email…

I recently had a 12k euro ($13K USD) month…

I started the site in 2021 and I would say it took around 6 months to start making 1k consistently a month.

🚀 How it started…

I got into the niche as I had worked in land based amusements in the UK for over 20 years so was well versed in slot machines and gambling.

I played online myself so trying to find a way into the niche was always something I had in mind, and demoslot in the end seemed the best way to do it.

DemoSlot itself is free to use as all the games are just fun play, no payment required.

💰 The site earns money via affiliate programs to paid casino games, like the ones listed on this page.

Nigel tells us…

Yes, this is all affiliate revenue and SEO [Traffic].

Additionally, if you look at the site header, there are a few language options, which surely helps Nigel attract a bigger audience 📈

Nigel’s advice for others…

Concentrate purely on personal development and focus on the things you can change rather than those you can’t…

… and no matter how many times you feel like giving up, dig in, persevere and never give up.

My top takeaway here: Nigel leveraged knowledge he gained from previous work experience to build a successful website.

What niches or industries have you worked in before? 🤔

Could you leverage your knowledge and/or connections there to build an online business?

Hey, I’m Niall Doherty.

I quit my last 9-to-5 job back in 2010.

Since then, I’ve earned my living online in various ways. Over the last 4 years (through 2023) I’ve earned $842,000 from my laptop.

I’m on a mission to accurately rate and review all the best online business courses. My team and I are spending many hours investigating these courses and getting feedback from real students.

All that to say: we know a thing or two about such courses and making money online.

The Best Trading Course?

We’re searching for the top trading course, using thorough research and feedback from actual students to guide us.

Sadly, Stock Dads didn’t quite make it to the top of our list.

Stock Dads Academy aims to help you make money by understanding the fundamentals of trading and using different analytical techniques with the goal of making profitable bets.

For example, the course covers topics ranging from Elliott Wave Theory to Fibonacci Retracements.

In theory, you can use this knowledge to gain an edge in the market by noticing patterns and trading based on where you think the market will go.

In addition to the course, you also get access to the Discord community, which regularly connects you with trading analysts and stock picks.

This is so you can both learn and leverage the experience of traders by trading based on their recommendations.

Learn more about tradingWho is Stock Dads for?

Stock Dads doesn’t specify who it’s for in its marketing.

Based on my research, Stock Dads is  best fit for beginner traders seeking a community to bounce ideas off. It’s also for those who want to learn from mentors and immerse themself in an educational virtual trading environment.

70+ ways how to make money online (including easy options)Does Stock Dads have a good reputation?

There are mixed opinions on Stock Dads.

Stock Dad is a team of real-life dads who banded together to create the Stock Dads program, which has grown into a 7-figure trading education community.

In that time, it has garnered both strongly opinionated positive and negative feedback.

On the one hand, Stock Dads has people who swear by the program…

stock dads review positive reviewstock dads review positive reviews

On the other hand, some people had quite the opposite opinion…

stock dads review negative reviewstock dads review negative reviews

Stock Dads also has multiple stock analysts who are supposedly highly experienced and reliable.

But I found no proof, like a profit and loss statement, that indicates this is true.

I’d like to see actual results so people can more accurately gauge whether it makes sense to follow their recommendations.

Here’s a video from Stock Dads’ YouTube channel so you can get a feel for their style…

Are Stock Dads’ students getting results?

At the time of writing, Stock Dads has 4.8 stars from over 375+ reviews, of which the vast majority are five stars.

For example…

stock dads review student results

Looking into it further, there are hundreds of student earnings screenshots in the Discord…

stock dads review student earnings screenshotstock dads review student earnings unified trading accountstock dads review student earningsstock dads review student earnings day change

While encouraging, it’s important to note that these are only student wins. These screenshots don’t paint the complete picture of prior and future trades, some of which are highly likely to be unprofitable.

How much does Stock Dads cost?

For the stock only course, there are a few payment options…

$40/week$145/month$400/quarter$1,300/year

The bundle starts at $50/week and includes futures, crypto, and betting education.

The only additional costs are basically funds to invest.

I’d recommend having a few thousand dollars to do so.

Stock Dads Discount?

I’ve looked everywhere for a discount or coupon code and haven’t found any, even though there’s a spot for one at checkout.

It seems you’ll need to pay full price to get access.

Refund Policy

Stock Dads offers no refunds.

The official word…

If not cancelled prior to renewal date, the membership fee is charged to your credit card. All fees are non-refundable.

While $40 for a week is a relatively inexpensive way of seeing if Stock Dads is right for you, I’d still prefer to see a refund policy here.

How is Stock Dads structured?

Here’s the view when you first log into Stock Dads…

stock dads review course page

The course is hosted on a marketplace called Whop.

Now, let’s take a quick look inside one of the lessons…

stock dads review course lessons

Stock Dads Academy is a video-based training with about 47 lessons that total just over 17 hours.

The lessons are neatly organized, follow a step-by-step approach, and offer a good mix of theoretical explanations and practical, over-the-shoulder screen recordings.

There’s no search function, which can make it tricky to find specific information again.

Next, you can find the community and signals on the Discord server.

Here’s a look inside…

Additional chat rooms include topics like fitness, dad jokes, ask a CPA, stock analysts, and show your gains.

Green Lights 🟢

Some positive points for Stock Dads…

Frequent student success stories.Active and supportive private community.Clear instruction, easy to follow step by step.No overhyped promises or shady marketing.Red Flags 🚩

A few things about Stock Dads that might give you pause

Recurring annual expense to keep access to the training. No refunds.Unclear if the training is still being updated.Other things you should knowA good way to think of Stock Dads: It basically keeps you updated on stocks and trading techniques to support a potentially successful trading career. When you join the program, you get access to that documentation, support, and insight.I found no downloads within the training to supplement the main learning material.👇 Subscribe to eBiz Insider 👇

Should you join Stock Dads?

Stock Dads is a bundle of training, chatrooms, stock picks, and more.

The academy is valuable for the price, and most people seem satisfied with the Discord.

Plus, many students post screenshots of their wins, which can be encouraging for aspiring traders.

However, you’ll need to pay a recurring fee to keep access to all of these resources, and there are no refunds for those who don’t find value in the program.

That said, you can join for a week for a relatively low price, and the recurring fee is in line with many trading programs we’ve reviewed.

So I’d say Stock Dads is at least worth testing for a week to see how you like it.
