$6000/Month Adding a Specialized Layer to ChatGPT
Mustafa ErgisiFounder of AI2sql $6000 monthly revenue Published May 9, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty Mustafa Ergisi tweets…
We hit $6K [monthly recurring revenue] at AI2sql ! It’s been only two months since our last update. My next goal is to achieve an MRR of $10K.
AI2sql is an AI software that generates SQL queries (ie. code to create and update databases)
Mustafa launched back in 2021 when the AI boom was still in its infancy, building with the no-code tool Bubble and OpenAI’s API.
We primarily acquire customers through organic search and referrals. Word of mouth has been incredibly powerful for us!
I find this interesting because ChatGPT is already pretty good at helping with SQL. So people could just use that instead of AI2sql.
But Mustafa has clearly added enough value so that plenty of people are happy to pay $9-24/month for a specialized tool
This gets me wondering…
What other opportunities there might be along these lines: AI to X
Regex is one that springs to mind.
AI2regex could probably be its own $6000/month business, if it doesn’t exist already.
What about in a niche or industry that you’re familiar with?
I suspect there could be demand for tools like this in many highly technical fields.
Back to Mustafa to wrap up…
This journey has taught me that persistence and continuous improvement can lead to achieving anything

This Automation Helps Him Make $20K/Month on Upwork
Nick SaraevFreelancer $20,000 monthly revenue via Upwork Published May 9, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
A recent video by Nick Saraev…
He basically breaks down an automation he’s set up that regularly checks Upwork’s RSS feed for his specified job queries.
But he has some really smart AI filtering going on there
Ultimately his ideal jobs get added into a spreadsheet for him to skim through, with templated proposals ready to copy and paste so he can apply super quick.
The automation itself doesn’t earn $20,000/month – it helps Nick find and apply for jobs that earn him that much
You can see from his Upwork profile that he’s legit…
Article Writer, Content Writer, Copywriter, SEO Specialist – $52.50/hrAI Developer & Process Automation Engineer | Make, Zapier, GPT-4, Node – $117.50/hrThe profile shows that he’s earned $400K+ overall, and it looks like he only started in 2021.
Nick says in the video…
Average value of a lot of my Upwork contracts for automations and operations is probably around $2,000 but every once in a while one will come by that’s like $15K.
Or maybe it’s a recurring relationship where now I have a bunch of clients that have been paying me $3,000-$6,000 for the last half year.
Often he’ll record a screencast to go with a job application…
If it even gives me a 1% higher likelihood of getting it, by recording a quick little Loom video that takes me like literally two minutes, then I’m going to do it…
This system allows me just to do all of that while also still maintaining high velocity.
Excellent example of using AI and automation to operate at a high level
That said, you should be great at your craft before setting up something like this.
As Bill Gates once said…
The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.
Also, even if you prefer to do things manually yourself, keep in mind that more and more of your competitors are going to be using AI and automations like this to get ahead

$3 Million Per Year Syncing Vacation Rental Software
Vinny BreslinFounder of Uplisting $3 million annual recurring revenue Published May 9, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty Vinny Breslin is the founder of Uplisting, self-described as…
All-in-one Vacation Rental Software and Channel Management System
So if you have a rental property, Uplisting plugs into sites like AirBnB and Booking.com to keep all your bookings and availability in sync
Per a recent interview, in 2023…
Uplisting possessed 1,500 customers and made $3 million in [annual recurring revenue].
How it started…
When Vinny left for university in 2005, his parents bought a guesthouse with 16 rooms.
Seeing a new business opportunity, his mother [Sian] opened a school in the guesthouse for other mothers. She taught them how to cook cheap and healthy recipes, and it was a local success.
Vinny thought the world might want to participate in his mother’s classes, too.
He picked up the idea, named it Sian’s Plan, got on some calls with venture capitalists and…
Secured half a million in VC funding for his new startup…
Building a business under pressure from hard-won investors was also a pain. Sian’s Plan acquired roughly 10,000 customers…
In 2015, after three and a half years of effort, Vinny and his mother quietly laid Sian’s Plan to rest. But Vinny was far from defeated.
So that business ultimately failed
but Vinny learned a lot along the way.
Next he got a job as…
A general manager… at an Airbnb competitor in London called House Trip.
While working at House Trip, Vinny noticed a common customer complaint. Hosts would forget to update their property’s availability and pricing because they were too busy focusing on Airbnb.
Even when hosts tried to maintain listings across multiple sites, they’d run into trouble. “An Airbnb booking, for example, wouldn’t block the dates on other booking sites,” Vinny adds. “So they would eventually end up with a double booking which cost them money.”
So in 2017 Vinny partnered with two of his former co-workers at House Trip to start a new business that would solve the syncing issue…
Fortunately, it was easy to find customers. The industry craved a system for syncing rental stays. However, it was often challenging to integrate Uplisting with major booking sites…
After a couple of calls to Airbnb’s Ireland office over the first two years of operation, Uplisting secured an integration, even becoming a preferred provider.
This time around, Vinny didn’t take any VC funding…
Listening to customers and building for their needs helped in a big way. When you’re a bootstrapped company, every product decision has to make money. You make better decisions.
6 years later, in 2023, Uplisting was doing millions in revenue…
Vinny had put together a strong SaaS business that even his mother, Sian, was using.
They started getting buyout offers and ended up selling it for a “lucrative offer” last year.
Researching SaaS multiples, it looks like they’re at least 3-4x annual revenue nowadays, so it’s probably safe to say they sold for $10+ million
One takeaway from Vinny’s story: past failures can lay the groundwork for future success.
Must have been tough to close up shop on Sian’s Plan after 3.5 years of effort and go back to being an employee. But sometimes you have to backtrack a bit before you can move forward
I also like the detail about how they persisted with Airbnb to get that integration. I’m sure that was a massive win for their business, and it was 2 years in the making.
None of this stuff happens overnight.

$10K/Month Helping People Get Into Yachting
Hugo OrtegaFounder of Superyacht Sunday School $10,000 monthly revenue Published May 9, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty Hugo Ortega is the founder of Superyacht Sunday School…
We help aspiring adventurers with little or no experience in boating or hospitality, begin Yachting without wasting their time and money.
Hugo spent 9 years working as a yacht crew member and has learned the nuts and bolts of how things work
He now offers a program through his site to help people get a job in yachting.
Per a recent interview, in less than 2 years…
it has grown into a full-time business earning $10K/month.
The course is priced $997 and offers split payments, so that’s about 10 new students per month
It all started when…
In late 2022, Hugo began putting together some basic resources to help aspiring yacht crew members. This included PDF guides on how to create an effective CV/resume, a list of top crew recruitment agencies, and checklists outlining the steps to get started.
To get things going, Hugo turned to Facebook groups related to yachting and began engaging with the community, answering common questions, and adding value wherever he could.
Anytime someone asked a common question, Hugo made sure to answer it thoroughly. At the end, he’d say something like “If you want more resources on this topic, I’ve got a great guide here,” and include a link to opt-in to his email list.
That resulted in…
… his first $299 sale for a basic package that included a 1-hour phone consultation and those same PDF guides he had offered as opt-in incentives.
That led to the creation of Hugo’s course, which includes
He has since built a following on TikTok and Instagram talking about all things yachting, while running Facebook ads to bring traffic to his site
I love how Hugo is using his past professional experience to help other people get ahead in that field.
Could you do something like that with your past experience?
Or could you partner with an expert and help them create some kind of training program?

How He Earned $10M Online Despite Severe Disability
Jon MorrowFounder of SmartBlogger.com $10,000,000 total earnings Published May 6, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
Tim Denning tweets…
This is Jon Morrow.
He’s made $10M+ writing online, but can’t move his body except his face.
Jon Morrow is the founder of Smart Blogger, a website dedicated to teaching blogging and writing
Tim again…
Jon Morrow has Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
It means he lives in an electric wheelchair.
He’s not supposed to live a long time either.
Doctors said he will one day get a lung infection.
They were right.
He’s had pneumonia 16 times & didn’t die.
And…
Jon got hit by a car going 85 mph in 2006.
His legs broke in 14 places.
He didn’t die (again).
Jon stayed in hospital for 3 months.
He realized he hated where his life was heading
So Jon did the unthinkable & quit his job.
Jon had big medical bills.
To save money he moved to Mexico
and started blogging.
Tim adds…
This is wild because he couldn’t move his hands or arms.
He had to build a lip-operated mouse.
Jon worked on his blog from 8am-11pm daily.
– Read
– Write
– Chat to other bloggers
That’s 15 hours per day of hard work, not knowing how it would turn out
But it turned out very well, with Jon earning $10+ million via blogging over the next several years.
Tim’s takeaway from Jon’s story…
Your first blog should suck.
– Your first 100 articles will be terrible
– Keep going beyond the initial failure
Jon’s first 3 blogs failed.
They helped him get good.
So don’t beat yourself up if you’re failing right now.
That’s the price you have to pay for eventual success

$1000/Month + Other Benefits From a Small Podcast
Matt MedeirosFounder of The WP Minute $1000+ approximate monthly revenue Published May 6, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty Matt Medeiros runs The WP Minute, a weekly podcast that discusses the latest news in WordPress
A recent interview with Matt…
Building WP Minute, a 5-figure side project without a huge audience5 figures per year… so likely $1000+ per month
Matt got into WordPress many years ago via old jobs and eventually co-founded the web agency Slocum Studio with his father.
Matt would attend WordPress events but he wasn’t a developer
To make a name for himself in the industry, he started his first podcast, The Matt Report, which he eventually rebranded to The WP Minute…
[That podcast] not only helped drive a lot of business for the studio but it was a massive resume builder and it helped me get all of my jobs since I left my agency job…
I kept doing it and it just kept my name and presence out in the WordPress space.
So when I needed to find a job… the folks that were hiring me, already knew me.
Matt’s podcast never had a ton of listeners.
But he emphasizes that even a small podcast can have huge benefits
You might not be getting sponsors.
You might not have all of the listeners that you want to get.
But just by continuously publishing and putting out content, people know that you’re still there doing this thing.
And they have a huge respect for it.
Sounds like Matt monetizes in a few ways
First there’s the ad revenue from his 16k-subscriber YouTube channel, where he shares WordPress tutorials.
He also has sponsors…
I have this professional product now and it’s omni-channel.
And you can appear in the newsletter, the YouTube… a la carte, pick where you want to go.
Lastly he has a membership and accepts donations…
If you’re a listener and you just love the work that we’re doing, you can either donate through a digital coffee or join the membership for $79 a year.
And that gets you access to Slack and behind the scenes.
It’s a great networking point for other WordPress businesses.
Could you do something like this in a niche you’re interested in?
Like Matt says, even if it doesn’t earn you a big income, it can help make a name for yourself and open up other opportunities.

He Built 2 Productized Services to $30,000+ Per Month
John DohertyFounder of EditorNinja $30,000+ EditorNinja monthly revenue Published May 6, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty John Doherty is the founder of EditorNinja, a productised content editing agency
In a recent interview, he reveals…
We currently do $30k-$40k/mo, and we are growing.
We featured John ~18 months ago when EditorNinja was still in its infancy making about $4.5K/month
At the time he was also running Credo, a marketplace for digital marketing and development agencies, and earning $45,000/month from that.
So he’s ultimately grown two productized service businesses to $30k+ per month
John’s background…
I started in tech with freelance SEO consulting back in 2011, alongside an agency job in New York City. I started a side project called HireGun, which later became Credo…
I actually sold Credo in September of 2022. I can’t talk about the details, but I fully stepped out of the day-to-day in January, 2023.
The origins of EditorNinja…
[It] came out of a personal need to outsource editing when I was running the content machine at Credo. I also saw a lot of software companies producing copy that had typos, and companies ordering and publishing unedited content from content companies. Typos and unedited content kill conversions.
All in all, it added up to it being a big opportunity in the space, even though there are already large companies in the editing space.
So there was plenty of competition, but John felt the existing offerings were lacking and that he could create something better
Initial traction…
EditorNinja has grown primarily through referrals and relationships to this point…
… we had a weekly agency email at Credo where we often promoted EditorNinja.
So, EditorNinja benefited from Credo, but not vice versa.
Now…
We’ve invested in SEO and content marketing. And I distribute content and tell the world about what we do through being a podcast guest on a lot of shows.
Google Ads work pretty well for us also. Overall, though, relationships in the marketing industry plus SEO and helpful editorial content have been the most effective for us.
John’s contrarian advice for entrepreneurs…
I actually believe it’s best to NOT solve something that you are world class in. It’s better to find something in a space you know where you can easily hire others to deliver the work.
And don’t do something you’re passionate about; do something you’re good at.
Wantrepreneurs are told to pursue their passions, but I believe that passions come and go. When you do something fulfilling and that you are good at, you’ll be energized to work on it every day.

4 Dystopian Examples of Remote Work
Weird examples of remote work people have been tweeting about recently…
Remote mining machine operatorsCashier at a store in NYC zooming in from the PhilippinesRemote security woman in South AmericaDentist’s receptionist on video from the PhilippinesBrett Goldstein writes that this feels dystopian…
We’re monetizing human interaction by having customers tip workers making the equivalent of $3/hr across the world just for taking an order. It displaces local jobs and feels like outdated labor arbitrage run amok in the digital age.
Taking it further…
Today, this is a Filipino woman behind a screen, controlling a POS system — but it’s not crazy to believe that probably in the next six to twelve months, this could be an AI avatar doing all the same things.
$225/Hour College Admissions Essay Consultant
Carter OsborneCollege Admissions Essay Consultant $225 per hour Published May 2, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty Carter Osborne is a “college admissions essay consultant” who charges $225/hour and earns $100k+ per year
Per a recent interview, the business had humble beginnings…
In Carter’s first year, he landed 3 clients and earned a few thousand dollars.
The next year, he tripled his client load to 14 students and broke 5 figures in sales. And from then on, Carter has reached the $100K+ mark working with around 25 to 30 students.
That was more than his income from his full-time corporate PR job—the tipping point that led Carter to quit and go all-in on his college essay consulting business.
Looks like he started in 2017 (when his domain was registered).
Carter started out tutoring different subjects as a side gig in grad school, from SAT/ACT prep to history and even pre-calculus.
But he enjoyed the actual writing and language arts side of things the most, especially helping students craft their college admissions essays….
So he niched down to essay writing consulting, and found there was little competition in his area (Seattle)
Pricing…
When he launched his essay coaching services, he undercharged at $75 per hour…
But Carter soon realized prospective clients might be skeptical of such a low price point for a specialized service. He raised his rates to a more appropriate $225 per hour eventually.
Carter has no social media presence
and this combined with his high hourly rate may actually contribute to his success…
This industry is so odd in that people view it almost like a luxury good. It’s this sort of premier consultant, a premier tutor sort of thing. This is a special person. This is someone who’s almost hard to find because they’re so good and they don’t need to advertise themselves.
His revenue is seasonal, with most of it coming within a few months…
His year follows a pattern—periods of intense work followed by months of much-needed downtime.
But come late summer and early fall, it’s the complete opposite story. Carter has to put his head down and grind.
Carter also teamed up with people who could’ve been his competitors…
He reached out to established, successful college admissions consultants and counselors in his local area. His pitch was simple: “Could I help you out? If you have some overflow clients who you can’t get to, maybe pass them my way.”
And it was a win-win partnership. If you think about it, these consultants were already fully booked anyway, and writing essays often wasn’t how they wanted to spend their time.
From there, the word-of-mouth referral engine started spinning.
His plans to expand the business…
I’m now working with students on professional coaching and consulting, folks who want to become tutors or even college essay specialists. I’m working with them to kind of talk about how to do it.
How about becoming a tutor yourself?
Is there a subject you know well enough to try it out?
As Carter’s story demonstrates, over time you can earn a substantial income this way.

The $8K/Month Blog That Replaced Her Teaching Job
Lori SullivanFounder of Guitar and Lace $8000 average monthly revenue Published May 2, 2024 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty Lori Sullivan is the founder of Guitar and Lace, a blog she started to document her wedding journey and work as a music teacher
In a recent interview, she reveals…
As a full-time creator, I have months where I’ve made up to $30,000 and months where I barely make $3,000.
Lori started blogging in 2017…
At the time, I was about 6 years into my teaching career and feeling all sorts of burnout. As much as I loved teaching my students, I felt all of my creativity and passion for music (and life, to be honest) be completely drained out by the stress that a career in education inevitably brings…
After doing a bit of research on my own, I realized that blogging was something that I could potentially be successful with! So during my last few weeks of summer 2017, I gave it a go.
Initially she blogged about “DIY wedding projects on a music teacher’s budget,” but later pivoted to “fashion, home decor, and design.”
Now, almost 7 years later
I thank myself for never giving up!
In 2021, barely 4 years after starting my blogging business, I was able to quit education. My blogging income had already surpassed my salary as a teacher for the second year in a row, and I felt confident enough to take it full-time.
She monetises the site with display ads, affiliate links, digital products and partnerships.
I was surprised to see that Lori also sells premium app icon sets via Etsy, and says that’s often her best income stream
On average…
All things included (blog, LTK, amazon, ads, Etsy), I earn anywhere from $6,000-$10,000 a month.
Lori’s main source of traffic is not Google (38%) but Pinterest (45%)…
Utilizing Pinterest has always been my top marketing strategy for my blog/business…
One solid Pinterest pin that links to our blog can be seen and be successful for months and even years whereas sharing anything on Instagram has somewhat of an expiration date until your content gets buried.
Her advice for anyone trying to make a living online…
The most important and vital thing for any entrepreneur trying to build their online business is to simply not give up.
In the beginning, you will feel like growth and success are close to impossible. You will see other bloggers and creators taking off with success and question whether or not this career is even attainable for you.
Focus on your goals and accept even the smallest amount of growth as progress.
