Paying a debt...
My latest book, Debt, will be released May 27, and it's already causing readers a few headaches...
Why?
Those readers who aren't keen on angst, or on seeing abuse, take one look at the blurb and decide, er, no, it's not for them.
I gave a copy to a wonderful lady who loves my books. I knew she'd be wary - she does NOT like a lot of angst and abuse is an absolute no-no for her - but I also knew she'd love it.
Oh boy. She surely did. You can read her review here.
https://t.co/uSjqsd3YV8
But once her review was out, the comments started coming in, and it was clear it had relieved the minds of a lot of people. She explained that the abuse was not seen, it was off page, and she made it clear that the focus of the book was the growing love between Nikko and Mitch.
In fact, I couldn't put it better than this:
"Don't let the "abuse" tag stop you from reading this beautifully written, fast-paced, and ultimately tender story about two men who find everything that's right during a time when everything feels wrong. "
Enough said.

You go, girl!
See Me, my latest story in the Lightning Tales series, is finally out!
There have been quite a few people wanting to know when this one was due for release.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
The blurb says it all.
It's been quite an education researching this one, which has included a few Skype conversations with a friend who is a drag queen in Atlanta. I tried not to pull any punches with the comments my drag queen Adrienne comes out with during her act, and hoo boy, this was fun to write!
While it deals with a difficult topic - bullying - there is laughter and hope, and yes, love.
Someone commented in a message to me that she kinda hoped there wouldn't be a HEA to this story.
In my best Tweety Pie voice...Her not know me very well.....

Surrendering Sam
This is a 1,000 word story I wrote at the end of 2012.
Thought I'd share it here. Originally it went out on a Dreamspinner Press newsletter.

Dom of Ages is OUT!
Okay, I was nervous about this one.
For one thing, the sub, Jarod, is fifty, whereas the Dom, Eli, is thirty. So yes, there's an age difference, but not the usual way around.
For another, Jarod lives to serve. Again, not usually what I write.
The fun part of this one? Writing the three BDSM scenes.
The wax scene was a lot of fun, especially after I spoke with a good friend who's done this - he even gave a talk on it!
The sounding scene? Okay, I admit it - I *might* have watched one of my friend Dirk Caber's videos for this one. When one of my beta readers said she liked the scene, even though she usually skims scenes with sounds, I was happy.
And we topped it off with a mummification / sensory deprivation scene. Wow.
I also cried a little in this one. I blame Parker Williams. Totally.
Dom of Ages is the penultimate book in the series. At the time of writing this, #8 is approx 65,000 words, and my betas are happy. Good sign.
And Dreamspinner Press are celebrating its release by putting all the rest of the series on sale! $1 each!

You might need tissues for chapter One. And maybe a bit later. Just sayin'...

Some thanks is due
Christmas 2012: I'd submitted An Unlocked Heart, the first of the Collars & Cuffs series, to Dreamspinner Press, and during the writing of it, I'd made the acquaintance online of one Will Parkinson. I gave him the book to read, and he loved it. That Christmas, I asked Will if he'd ever consider writing with me.
He said no. Instantly.
Then a week later, he said, "you know that idea of yours? About writing together? Well, I've had an idea...."
And so was born Someone to Keep Me, the first of our four collaborations.
Next was Damian's Discipline. We'd grown a lot since the first, and I think it showed in the writing.
Dom of Ages .... I was writing A Bond of Three, and Will was FULL of Jarod and Eli. They were his, long before they were mine. And I love the way the book turned out. There are a couple of advance reviews out already...
And now we're working on Ending & Beginnings, the last of the series. I love how it's going.
So this is me, thanking Will, aka Parker Williams, for being the best co-writer a girl could have. We work well together, and I am so bloody proud of what we've created together.
Love you, Will.

Let's talk about... Cheating
Yeah, this is a hot topic for some readers of MM (and M/F) romance.
I read an interesting thread on cheating on Facebook.
One reader made the point that cheating happens in real life, that life isn't perfect.
Another felt that if the relationship was bad, i.e. abusive, then maybe the idea of cheating was not so abhorrent. But if it was simply a case of one partner being unable to keep his hands off someone else, then definitely - no.
What amazed me was how vehement some people were about the issue. They might get all the way through a book but as soon as the element of cheating reared its head, they wouldn't finish, or, what was worse in my mind, give it a really low rating. Not because it was a badly written book, you understand, but because there was CHEATING in it.
I understand that cheating isn't necessarily sexual. You can cheat emotionally on a partner by longing after someone else, even secretly.
I have a couple of friends whose story I would LOVE to write, but you know what? It's not gonna happen. Because the way they live isn't 'conventional' and to many, all they would see is cheating. When First was released, I waited for the reviews with a mixture of anticipation and dread. I'd done my best to get across that Mike having sex with guys on camera was NOT the same thing as him being in a relationship with them, that this was his job. Okay, so he's chosen a job where he gets paid to have sex. Does that mean he's not entitled to want a loving partner too?
Let's go back to my friends. They're in the industry, and they are walking proof that, so long as they are first in the other's heart, they understand that sex elsewhere isn't an indication of anything other than two guys having a little social fun. It's all about what the "contract" the couple has (hopefully) talked through and set up. They made it clear that neither of them is quite monogamous in inclination; they are well matched that way. And because it's understood that sex outside the relationship is not forbidden, then it is no longer 'cheating' on the odd occasion that it does happen. And knowing them as I do? I don't doubt for ONE SECOND that they love each other and that they are indeed first in each other's hearts
Surely people are able to think past a simplistic pigeonhole box that defines something. Surely we can raise ourselves above that...
Having said that? Maybe not.
Okay, time for some home truths here.
Partners cheat on each other. They get found out. Sometimes they're forgiven, sometimes not. If they do forgive, they work through their problems, work on making their relationship better, overcoming obstacles... Surely these are all elements of a good story. Without some conflict - unless you specifically want to read something low-angst and feel-good - a story would end up being a damn sight shorter and a whole lot more boring. And if you're invested in a book, in the characters, why would you put it aside if one of them cheated?
The story matters. How it's written. The language it uses. The emotions it evokes.
If you've had a bad experience with cheating, don't let that color your enjoyment of what might be a brilliantly written book. And don't let your emotional baggage color how others might view the book.
I'm sorry, but shit happens. That's life. That's real life. How many times have I read a comment that a storyline wasn't real?
Maybe some things are just too real for some readers.

First - oh boy, Facebook....
In case you don't know, my latest book, First, came out on Monday.
And then on Tuesday, someone reported the Amazon link to Facebook, stating that the cover contravened their Community Standards regarding nudity... Only thing is? It doesn't. AT ALL.
So Facebook reacted - and blocked me from posting there for thirty days.
THIRTY FREAKIN' DAYS ....
It's in times of adversity that you really find out who your friends are.
My friends on FB decided that to spite whoever had done this, they were going to plaster the book cover EVERYWHERE. And oh boy, did they....
Guys? You ROCK. Just sayin'...
Then Jesse Jackman, a friend who has had one or two run-ins with FB, shall we say, stepped in and posted, telling folks how to complain to FB. Not only that, he put together a detailed report and sent it to a contact, acting on my behalf. Bless...
I owe him quite a few hugs when I next get to see him.
I've just written a blog post, where Scott Masters, my porn star from First, is interviewed. Scott tells it like it is about the porn industry, and it makes interesting reading. I have Dirk Caber to thank for that. That man is amazing. And for those who don't know Dirk... He's the one who advised me during the writing of the book. He and his hubby, Jesse, are living proof that porn + love can work: two highly popular porn stars who have been together for four years now, and anyone who's met them in real life will tell you - these are two men in love.
You'll find the Scot Masters interview below...
http://kcwellsworld.blogspot.co.uk/20...
And Dirk? The words Thank You are not nearly enough.
The reviews are already coming in thick and fast, and I have to say, some of them have rendered me speechless.
Here's hoping that by the time GRL comes around, I'm not still languishing in FB jail :-(
