What's new from K.C. Wells...
Sigh. GRL is most definitely over - as is the cold I got from attending it!
So now it's back to reality - which means writing!
For the first time in a week, I'm itching to write. And today I finally finished the end of the first chapter of Personal Changes, the sequel to Making It Personal - damn, that felt good! A huge thank you to Kol Anderson for getting me going again. Kol, you're the best, babe <3 (For those of you who read MIP, this next one is Rick's story, and takes up right after the New year's Eve party - yeah, THAT one!)
But that's not the only book in the works right now. Tomorrow morning I'm going to sit down and start the next book in the Collars & Cuffs series, A Dance with Domination. Not telling you who the main characters are, but yes, if you know the series, you will see some familiar faces.
My laptop is already girding its loins, so to speak... it's going to be very busy for a while! ;)
By the way, I have to say a HUGE thank you to Max Vos. He and I discussed both my works in progress for many hours while I stayed with him in Atlanta, and I really valued his input. It was great to bounce ideas around - and Max has some really good ideas!!

In anticipation...
So here I am, sitting in a café at Heathrow airport, awaiting a flight to Atlanta to attend my first ever GayRomLit - and feeling a little apprehensive.
Oh, don't get me wrong - I am VERY excited! It's only my second visit to the US, and within about ten hours I'll be seeing my dear friend Max Vos again Yeah, okay, so I see him every day on my computer screen, but it's not the same thing, people!
No, what makes me a little nervous is the thought of some of the authors I'm going to meet there - people I've long admired - and some of the readers who want to meet me.
Feeling a little star-struck here.
This time last year, I wanted to go, but couldn't. My first book would be due out a month later, but I sooooo wanted to be there.
A year on, I have five books published with Dreamspinner Press, and I've self-published four. I've co-written my first book (with Parker Williams, aka Will Parkinson and that comes out in the New Year.
Little did I think this time last year that I would no long be teaching, and would be writing full-time.
And by the way, if you read my post K.C.Wells Comes Out? It's getting waaaayyyyyy easier to say "I'm a writer" and I don't miss a beat if they ask what I write. "Gay fiction."
Happy Sigh... I LOVE my job :)
And if you're going to be in Atlanta? See you there...

A lasting memory of the US
So I am sitting at the dining table of my friend Max Vos at the end of my first ever visit to the United States.
What a fantastic ten days.
Firstly I was able to meet my best friend and co-author Will Parkinson aka Parker Williams for the first time. Happy sigh - we only had a couple of days but it was brilliant.
Then I attended Authors After Dark in Savannah and met some wonderful people.
And finally I arrived in Atlanta to stay with Max for a few days.
I've just this minute uploaded my latest book September's Tide to All Romance and Amazon, and updated my author page here.
So all that is left for me to do is shower, pack my suitcase and head off to the airport for my flight to the UK.
Thank you to everyone who made this stay so wonderful. I hope to see lots of you at GayRomLit in October here in Atlanta.
*waves goodbye*

New Horizons - OR - KC Wells Comes Out
It's official. I am now writing full-time.
And yes, it's a scary thought. Exciting, but scary.
It's really strange. I was on a plane coming back from seeing my Dad and step-mum in France and as usual the laptop was out. So there I was, happily typing away, when the passenger next to me started asking questions.
"What are you writing?"
"It's a love story."
"Oh, how nice! Are you published?"
I replied that yes, I was - and then waited for the inevitable question.
"Might I have read something by you?"
Ah. Yes. Well.
And then I thought, 'Sod it.'
"Not likely unless you are a fan of gay romantic fiction."
The gentleman in question stared at me for a second and then said, "Wow. That's really interesting." And what then ensued was a very pleasant conversation which lasted for the remainder of the flight.
It happened again three days ago. I was sitting in my favorite writing place in all the world, when a couple across from me struck up a conversation. When they asked me what I did for a living, I said without hesitation, "I'm a writer." And then I told them exactly what I write.
Go back four months and the answer would have been, "I'm a teacher." I'd have mumbled the genre that I write in, while nervously looking around to see who was listening.
It felt so good to say the words.
Well, if I'm going to be doing this on a permanent basis, maybe it's time I told people about it.
So, with that in mind...

What a week....
Wow.
That's the only word that keep coming to mind when I think back on the last week. Just....wow.
Some pretty momentous stuff has been taking place, the major development being that I might just have left the day job behind in favor of writing full time. (Well, nearly... I'll have to set up a few things as back up for a while, but in principle? Pretty much)
Prior to that, Making it Personal released as my first self published title on ARe and Amazon (and now Smashwords)
Then it hit the Bestsellers list on ARe.. and went up to #1....wow. (There's that word again)
And then the whole Amazon thing.... When it started climbing up the Gay Romance BestSellers, I was dumbfounded. When it hit #2 I was ecstatic - the highest I'd ever been was #14 - but that was as nothing to the dancing I did when it hit #1 over a week ago. I still look at the list and... yeah, you know the word.
And the icing on the cake was last night. I'd been on the waiting list for a reader spot for GRL, and last night I got the email offering me a spot ... I finally get to meet some of the wonderful people that have connected with me online. And yes, I was definitely dancing.
After a week like this, they're gonna have to invent a new word, 'cause I think I've worn wow out by now...

My first collaboration
This morning saw me putting the finishing touches to my first collaboration with another author, and it has been a wonderful experience.
Parker Williams, who wrote the beautiful story 500 Miles which was released this month, and I have written Someone to Keep Me, which we hope to submit to Dreamspinner Press very shortly.
Parker is the alter ego of Will Parkinson whose debut YA novel Pitch is due for release from Dreamspinner in August / September.
I hope this will be the first of many such works with Parker.
It's the story of Scott Keating, an American boy who comes to the UK to meet with Jeff, someone he met in a chat room, only to find that when he arrives, Jeff is nowhere to be found. Scott is alone until he is befriended by Ben Winters, a barman in the BDSM club Collars & Cuffs - and a whole new journey begins...

Collars & Cuffs - An Unlocked Heart - gets a release date!
The first in my BDSM series, Collars & Cuffs, is due for release on July 12th.
An Unlocked Heart is the story of Leo and Alex...
Read on...
Since the death of his submissive lover two years ago, Leo Hart hasn’t been living–merely existing. He focuses on making Collars & Cuffs, a BDSM club in Manchester’s gay village, successful. That changes the night he and his business partner have their weekly meeting at Severinos. Leo can’t keep his eyes off the new server. The shy man seems determined to avoid Leo’s gaze, but that’s like a red rag to a bull. Leo loves a challenge.
Alex Daniels works at Severinos to scrape together the money to move out on his own. He struggles with coming out, but he’s drawn to Leo, the gorgeous guy with the icy-blue eyes who’s been eating in his area nearly every night.
Leo won’t let Alex’s hesitance get in the way. He even keeps him away from the club so as not to scare him. And as for telling Alex that Leo is a Dom? Not a good idea. One date becomes two, but date two leads to Leo’s bedroom… and Alex discovers things about himself he never realized – and never wanted anyone to see.

I finally did it!
Okay, so it took me a whole morning to get my head around the software, but the result is that Making it Personal, my first self published title, releases on July 18th with All Romance eBooks and Amazon.
What's it about?
Blake Davis is in the closet. And he’s going to stay that way. Because if his father finds out he’s gay, Blake could lose everything he’s worked so hard to achieve during the last six years as CEO of Trinity Publishing, the fastest rising star in the publishing firmament. Not that coming out wouldn’t solve a couple of problems. Maybe then his father would stop trying to set him up with yet another empty-headed, social-climbing girlfriend. And better still, Blake could stop using that escort agency when he wants a night of hot sex with a cute guy…
Will Parkinson has had a tough life so far, but he’s back on his feet. Okay, so he’s working as an escort – with ‘benefits’– to pay off his student loans, but that does have its advantages, such as the really hot guy who hired him. Yeah, Blake rocked his world last night – several times. So imagine how Will feels when he arrives to be interviewed for his dream job as PA in a publishing company, and the guy who’s hiring is….. Blake.
And then things get really complicated….

Island Tales Press coming soon...
So I've taken the plunge....
Island Tales Press is the banner for my self published titles, and it's the first time I've stepped out from under the Dreamspinner Press umbrella.
The first title is written, and should be out there within a week or so. And while I'm waiting for it to be edited, I'm going to carry on with the first of the Island Tales.
So to whet your appetite, here are a couple of sneaky peeks at what's coming...

And Waiting for a Prince, the first of the Island Tales...
When trainee hairdresser Mark sees Sam for the first time in the salon, it’s lust at first sight. Sam is Mark’s living, breathing fantasy guy. He couldn’t be more perfect. Of course, there’s the tiny, insignificant detail that Sam has a girlfriend. Hell….. A chance meeting on Mark’s favourite beach brings the two men together, and Mark finds himself with a new friend. As they spend more time together, Mark grows to see Sam less as an object for his lust and more as someone who just… fits. But falling in love with your new best friend—especially when he’s straight—is bound to bring heartache in the end.
Sam likes Mark. As in, he really likes him. And he’d like to get to know him even better. But Sam has secrets. There are things going on in his life that he can’t bring himself to tell Mark about, because the shame Sam feels is too much to bear, and not something he ever wants to share with another living soul. And if Mark ever finds out how Sam really feels about him, and the fact that he’s lied to him…. Sam can’t take that chance.
Then one drunken night in the pub changes everything….
