Bell, founder and president of Bell Aircraft Corporation of Buffalo, New York, uses a Japanese ivory ball to illustrate his view that humans before long will operate planes outside the Earth’s atmosphere, then outside the gravity field of the Earth.  The Air Force test pilots with him are Lt. Col. Frank J. Everest (left), Maj. Charles Yeager (in light suit, center), and in uniform next to President Bell, Major Arthur Murray.  

Optimism About Anti-Gravity Spaceships

In late 1955, the interest in finding out whether gravity could be controlled or “cancelled out” was not confined to the imaginative young graduates of engineering and scientific schools, as it was at the beginning of the decade.  Rather, the corporate leaders of America’s largest aviation and electronics companies were taking an active role in securing government contracts to actually develop advanced aircraft propelled by anti-gravity drives.  Some of these two industries’ most experienced and highly regarded executives were already engaged directly in financing the theoretical research and experimentation necessary to eventually build “hardware” in the configurations of planes, Earth satellites and interplanetary spaceships which, in the words of Lawrence D. Bell, founder and president of Bell Aircraft Corporation in Buffalo, New York, “can go where we want and do what we want without interference from gravity’s mysterious trans-spatial pull.”

When business leaders like Bell put such credence in new propulsion theories, others in the aviation and electronics communities begin to take these ideas seriously as well.  Bell Aircraft built the first piloted aircraft in history to fly faster than the speed of sound.  President Bell was sure that practical results would come out of all the then extant anti-gravity research.  Of this, he told Ansel E. Talbert, the Military and Aviation Editor of the New York Herald Tribune (22 November 1955, European edition), that, “Aviation as we know it is on the threshold of amazing new concepts.  The United States aircraft industry already is working with nuclear fuels and equipment to cancel out gravity instead of fighting it.”

He also noted that, “The Wright Brothers proved that man does not have to be Earth-bound.  Our next step will be to prove that we can operate outside the Earth’s atmosphere and the third will be to operate outside the gravity of the Earth.”

Within the week prior to his interview with Talbert, President Bell announced that Bell Aircraft made the first powered flights with its X-2 rocket plane.  This revolutionary aircraft was designed to, “penetrate deep into the thermal and heat barrier encountered due to atmospheric friction at a speed above 2,000 miles per hour.”  Bell Aircraft was also testing out a new vertical-rising-and-landing “magic carpet” airplane, that was yet to revealed to the general public.  

Lt. Col. Frank J. "Pete" Everest was at the controls for many of the X-2 rocket plane’s record-setting flights. Everest, who flew over 150 combat missions during World War II, became a test pilot after the war, setting several speed marks and establishing an unofficial altitude record of 73,000 feet in a Bell X-1 at a speed of nearly 2,000 miles per hour.  Lawrence D. Bell was President of the Bell Aircraft Company, headquartered in Buffalo, New York, that designed and built the rocket plane.   President Bell believed that his company could also build an interplanetary spaceship based on the principles of anti-gravitation. 

Veteran Aeronautics Scientist Concurs

Grover Loening, the first graduate in aeronautics of an American university and the first engineer hired by the Wright Brothers, was also optimistic about the development of an anti-gravity drive to propel planes and even spaceships.  From 1910 through 1955, Loening had a distinguished career as an aircraft designer and builder.  At the end of 1955, he was decorated by the United States Air Force for his work as a special scientific consultant.  

In the interview conducted by Talbert with aviation leaders and published in the 22 November 1955 edition of the New York Herald Tribune, Loening was quoted as saying that, “I firmly believe that before long man will acquire the ability to build an electromagnetic contra-gravity mechanism that works.  Much the same line of reasoning that enabled scientists to split up atomic structures also will enable them to learn the nature of gravitational attraction and ways to counter it.” 

The spaceship from the beleaguered planet Metaluna in the 1955 science fiction movie classic, This Island Earth (Universal-International Pictures), incorporated then many of the extant theories of anti-gravity propulsion.

Anti-Gravity Project Timetable

Among the scientists, technicians and corporate leaders engaged in anti-gravity research, there was some dispute about the timetable for the construction of a workable anti-gravity aircraft.  George S. Trimble, the brilliant young scientist in charge of the then newly created Advanced Design Division of Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, Maryland, and a member of the Subcommittee on High Speed Aerodynamics, a forerunner organization that would one day become absorbed into the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), thought that such an anti-gravitation aircraft could be built rather quickly, provided that sufficient resources and momentum were put behind such a program.  

Declared Trimble, “I think we could do the job in about the time that it actually required to build the first atom bomb if enough trained scientific brain-power simultaneously began thinking about and working towards a solution.  Actually, the biggest deterrent to scientific progress is a refusal of some people, including scientists, to believe that things which seem amazing can really happen.”

The visionary scientist added that, “I know that if Washington decides it will be vital to our national survival to go where we want and to do what we want without having to worry about gravity, we’d find the answer rapidly.”

News & Notes: Menacing Orange Eyed Canine Cryptid Encountered Near Guntersville, Alabama

A man in north Alabama has been seeing a variety of strange creatures recently. An orange eyed wolf-like being was spotted watching him through a window.

This account was posted on social media this past weekend. I have contacted the witness, asking for any additional information:

"I've always had weird experiences, be it ghosts or strange animals. It just always seems to follow me and my family. We had just recently moved into a old farm house just off the main road near Guntersville, Alabama. The house comes with 88 acres of land and only 4 people leave on or near the land, including us. When we first moved in nothing abnormal happened. It was just a small out of the way house that seemed like a new start for us all.

After a month of us living here we started hearing strange noises outside at night but nothing too serious. One night we decided to have a fire and get drunk. Well me and a few other guys that where there that night decided to do some night fishing. While fishing in the pond that was maybe a mile into the woods we start hearing screaming. We just think that it is one of the girls back at the house so we head back, but on our way back we start noticing that there is no more sounds. No sounds of nature, no birds, no crickets nothing so we stop to listen. As we do this we hear the sounds of chains rushing towards us. As it gets maybe 15 feet from us I point a gun at where a think the sound stopped at and fire a shot at the ground a couple inches from it. After a minute passes the chains sounds rush towards the house. Nothing happened after that, until we all go inside and start going to bed. We all hear a female scream again but behind it there was a deep distorted laugh.

After that nothing happened. But 3 weeks later, my dad and I go fishing out at the impound late in the afternoon. As it inches closer to dusk we notice 3 pale white animals on the opposite side of the pond. But as soon as we notice the animals they run, but instead of running on all fours like a normal animal they all jump up to their hind legs and jump 8 feet into a tree and hop from tree to tree. As we see this we decide to head back home. But on the way back we hear the trees start rustling and it keeps getting closer and closer until we get to the house and lock the doors.

I decide to set cams in the woods and around the house. At first I don't get anything, just deer and coyote. Until one night, a cam close to the house is moved for a hour then moved back. Nothing really came of that until one night recently. After a long day of working I decide to play a video game with a few friends. At about 11 pm at night I hear 2 taps, but I ignore it thinking it was on the game. It continues till 2 am in the morning, periodically every 5 minutes 2 consecutive taps would happen. I finally took my headphones off and hear it at my window. When I look I saw orange eyes 7 feet off the ground. After 2 minutes of staring at each other it moved closer to the window and smiled at me with blood stained daggers for teeth. Its face looked like a pale wolf-like face with some decay on along the sides of its head and neck. After doing this it backs away and leaves.

Now every night something happens. Like tonight, as I'm writing this, it rushed onto the porch and clawed the door. As it's doing this it is bellowing out a laugh that almost sounds like a deranged madman crossed with a hyena. At this point, I'm not sure what to think. Are we being hunted?" SJ

News & Notes: Huge White Bioluminescent Flying 'Man-Bat' Observed in Guyana, South America

A man in Guyana, South America observes a huge white bioluminescent flying 'Man-Bat' while sitting on his porch. Is there a natural explanation for this sighting?

I recently came across the following account:

"I live on the east coast of Guyana, South America, in a village that's a very quiet place to live. Last night (October 20, 2020), while having some beers on my veranda, a close friend and I were just talking when I noticed a huge bat that was illuminated with a bioluminescent pale white glow. At first I thought it was a freakishly large Chicken Hawk. That thought didn't last for more than a nanosecond when I realized that it was muscular, practically ripped like some steroid junkie from it's neck to toes. Its fur was thicker in the lines that its chest muscles created in the light near its huge flapping wings. It was larger than anything I ever seen in the air that's not a plane (like a mini Cessna). It flew beyond the line of houses on the street towards an empty small block that's a ballfield (for sports, cricket usually). Its glow was something else. Its fur and even its wings were glowing (though less so for the tips of the wings). At first I thought that my neighbor's LED lights were making it look so freakishly illuminated with that unsettling glow but it went past the light's threshold into the darker area all while looking like some kind of giant firefly on overdrive.

The best closest image I can think of is Man-Bat from Batman but white and glowing. The wing tips were elongated like they had talons and looked a bit darker like they didn't have any fur however. The stretched skin between the tips was a pale pink. It literally disappeared after reaching a darker patch as if its glow could be turned on and off. There was no trace of it even after the darker patches which were illuminated by lights from the houses surrounding the ballpark. Even with its massive size it didn't make a sound. The place was quiet as hell too and it was close but it's wings barely seemed to disturb the air/make any noticeable sound. I only saw it flap it's wings once, like it could glide with extreme ease since it crossed the street to the other block before my friend could properly react. He still got a glimpse of it though and was just as unnerved.

Its face was bat-like entirely, even with that definable curved/raised snout most bats seem to have and those large ears. Around my area we do have Fruit Bats but they're all regular sized. I'd estimate it to be larger than a Harpy Eagle and there's absolutely no possibility of one of those being out in the coast when they all prefer the mountainous hinterlands that are more to the middle/center of the country. I have seen those majestic birds a lot too, even became friends with an extremely intelligent one while I volunteered at the local zoo as a kid with my sister. There's no possibility of me mistaking what I saw for one of those. Everything about what I saw was bat-like but huge with longer, more muscular legs and beyond anything I have seen in nature. The legs also did not look like small bat legs tapered to it's wings and stretched out longer but seemed to bend at the point where a knee would be for a human with defined calves and rounded toes.

After seeing it I realized that many nights while gaming after 12 am I have noticed a silver flash through the windows that I thought was some weird trick of the moonlight (my room faces the backyard which is darker as there's lots of yard space between the houses and not many light sources to bounce off of/around). But I now recognize that unmistakable pale glow, like an Angler Fish or bio-luminescent snails.

Last bit, I was one beer in so no, I wasn't drunk. Hallucinating something that real and with the unmistakable details/movements of a live creature in flight is impossible for a 4.5% alcohol beer, it simply doesn't do that." SW

News & Notes: Living With Fae in Northern California

A Costa Rican man tells of his experience with a Duende. He later describes his current encounters with Fae in his northern California home.

I recently received the following account:

I’m Costa Rican and this little people folklore is heavily instilled in children so they don’t go running off to become a Duende with the forest folk. The last time I visited the country, I was sleeping on the floor and was awoken calmly in the middle of the night. At the end of the bed, there was this shadow figure (2ft, stalky, and robust) just watching me sleep. I didn’t feel disturbed or even offended. I felt well-guarded and watched over, so I went back to sleep without a second thought. I even invited the Duende to stay as long as they’d like.

When I later awoke, my dad told me (who was sleeping in the living room) that he was woken up in the middle of the night, and the back patio door (in his field of vision from couch) had opened slowly during the middle of the night, and he heard something come in. Emotionally, he responded the same way and just went back to sleep, as if the creature had a connection/relationship/responsibility to be there. At a heart-based level, neither one of us questioned why or how it was there.

Later in the trip we walked around the rainforest, and I swore a Fae had called to me telepathically. I turned to look and my eyes were drawn to a tree. It had a hole on its stump and very obviously looked like a den. There were grass strands right in front of it fluttering, yet no wind. I knew it was the Fae and I came up right to its door, said hello and thank you, then went on my way. This was 5 yrs ago.

Fast forward to this year 2020. I live in northern California (Chico). My apartment is infested with Fae. It was previously rented by older women who had passed away. They fed the alley cats and would always have them over. It held that aura once I moved in. I tried cleansing it but low and behold those spirits were strong and in love with the home, so we lived mutually. In my shower, I constantly saw fluttering lights, dancing around with me. I eventually began offering the Fae anything I could to appease them, simply because they can make the space very buzzy and electric - sometimes an overwhelming feeling. Milk, honey, rum, chocolate, bread, mints, sweets, flowers, stones, and kind words/affirmations were my offerings.

I set up a little home for them and would light candles every night to symbolize the warmth and welcoming I was extending. They are certainly mischievous and can be emotionally flustered (what people say is their angry or vengeful side).

It seems Gnomes and Fae work together. They live in the same median realm, and communicate with humans in the same way. Gnomes mind their own business for the most part. But they will garner your attention" BA

Strange Deer-Like Entity Observed in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania

A man in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania has a strange encounter with deer-like being in his backyard. The eyes change colors and it responds to his commands.

The following account was forwarded to me:

I live in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. For a while there’s been strange occurrences around, but recently was the most real and convincing occurrence that there is a cryptid. Basically my girlfriend vacationed at a place where there was known to be Seneca tribes, so I didn't if she brought something back. Anyway, she’s over tonight and I live with another friend FYI. Anyway, we take our dog out and our motion lights aren’t triggered when all of a sudden there’s a hissing sound right next to us and the bushes shake. We rush the dog in as we have no idea what it could be. This area is prone to raccoons and deer and some coyotes.

My friend and I go outside with weapons and flashlights, as our dog is partially blind and has a bad leg so we can’t risk him being attacked. Along with that there is a guy in our rather wooded community that has a brain issue and tends to wonder at night. So, with that in mind, we go outside and we hear a bird call (remind you it’s 1 am). We hear this bird call non-stop. In my mind I’m thinking I’m being lured by the crazy dude, so we go inside. We look out our patio window only to see a deer at our fence line. The deer's back legs look mangled. I kid you not. It actually looks like it’s walking with it’s back legs turned backwards. (There is a deer that roams back there that has a broken leg, but only one and he’s always with the family). Anyway, we see this deer, but when it first looks at us with the flashlight on its eyes are green. It puts its head down and stares as us and we shine the light around and back on it and its eyes are now red, when they go back to green. At that point I’m convinced this is a possible skinwalker-like being.

It turns and is walking around. It isn’t listening to me screaming to leave, so I call it a witch. But I kid you not, it turned its head around and stuck its neck up so freakishly long and stared at me I actually got spooked (I’m a pretty religious dude who often ghost hunts and goes to creepy abandoned spots but I kid you not I kind of heart dropped). So. at this point. I go and get my silver cross and shine the flashlight on the cross so it can see the cross shining and It immediately looks away and I tell it that if it can’t cross the fence line because I don’t give it permission. It straightens up and walked away and didn’t look back. I come back inside.

My friend goes to sleep and I go into my bedroom where my girlfriend is asleep. I lay down next to her. She starts make weird moaning sounds. I wake her up and it turns out she was having a sleep paralysis episode and she had 2 other sleep paralysis episodes during the entire time me and my friend were outside/ I wonder if there is a connection with the deer being? News & Notes: Bizarre White Humanoid Encountered Near Pikes Peak, Colorado

A couple made a trip to Colorado Springs, CO and later visited the area around Pikes Peak. The man encountered a white humanoid while trekking along the mountain.

We stayed in a Holiday Inn that was right at the base of the mountain basically and had a great view of Pikes Peak as soon as we looked out the window. She was thrilled, she never seen anything like it before, and she's a sucker for a gift shop, so this place was great. We had a great time.

Our second day there we decided to drive up to Pikes Peak, but we were told at the gate we could go up most of the way but the very summit was closed off because there was too much snow. We could still get really far up though. I think Pikes Peak is around 14,000 feet, and we got to like 11,000 feet before it was closed off. So we were up above the clouds, which were awesome, because it just looked like looking out over the ocean. We stopped at the little rest center on the way up to get hot chocolate for the drive and a magnet for Colorado since we collect magnets for every state we go to.

It was pretty cool, because we had "bigfoot crossing" signs along the way up, which was really fun to take picture in front of. Anyway, once we got to the closed-off part of Pikes Peak, we parked our car and got out and just kind of took in the view. I didn't think anybody else was up there with us, except the guy a little up the way sitting in his truck making sure people didn't go up any higher than they were supposed to. Even if we couldn't go to the summit, it was still gorgeous. We took some picture, all of which were pretty terrible, and it was really cold. But I'd insisted we buy 5.11 jackets, pants, and boots for the trek, and my wife didn't understand why I demanded that brand (But if you're a dude... you know.) So we were pretty toasty. I wandered off and started looking around the rocks and what few trees were up at that elevation. I just like to explore stuff off the beaten path.

I heard some snow crunching nearby and assumed it was another sightseer so moved toward the sound of the crunching snow but didn't see anybody. There's a few trees here and there but not hard to really see. It was snowing a bit however, and the wind was blowing the snow sideways. I'd gone pretty far from my wife at this point and didn't want to stray too much farther but I was honestly hoping to see a wolf or something. I found tracks in the snow and they were pretty small (The snow was kind of deep so I couldn't really tell what kind of animal made them, but it looked like it walked on all fours.) So I was really hoping to see a wolf.

I did not see a wolf. At first I didn't see anything. I followed the tracks around a tree and kind of carefully peeked around it, but didn't see anything. The tracks stopped there, though. I didn't get right up on the tree because if it was a wolf I mean, I didn't want to get face to face with it (I'll also say, I have no idea if there are wolves in the Rockies, I was just sort of hoping.)

What I did see, eventually, was a pure white 'thing' scurry away from the exact location I was looking. It was pure white. I'm not sure if it was invisible, or just blended in perfectly with the snow. It moved on all fours, had a huge bulbous head, kind of like the way you think of the typical version of an alien, and it had a spindly body. Its arms and legs were super skinny, and it body wasn't a whole lot bigger. Its arms and legs themselves were really long. I'd say it was probably between 4-5 feet tall if it were standing upright. It was a bit hard to tell with it always on all fours, and in the snow. It turned around and took a look at me, and had really small, black eyes, and no defining features. Its eyes were really far apart and almost on the side of its head. Its feet and hands were buried but when it went to move I saw what its hand looked like. It had fingers that were way too long. Like, not ET long, but wiry, spindly fingers. It looked at me for just a second and then leaped forward away from me and as soon as it landed in the snow it was invisible again, or I just couldn't see it. Then it hopped again (and it jumped a good 6 feet or so from a dead stop) and took off running. It ran away from me and scaled some rocks in the distance like it was nothing and crawled along the cliffside. Whenever it was in the snow it looked invisible though. I'm not sure if that's because it was all white, or because it was like, actually turning invisible. Anyway, in a few second it was gone.

When I got back to my wife, who was waiting in the car, she  didn't believe a word of it and thought I was just trying to scare her. To this day she doesn't believe me. And I don't what it was. I've never heard of any cryptid or anything like it, and on the trek back down I asked the lady at the gift shop if people ever reported seeing weird things and she just mentioned bigfoot." DL

Bipedal White Goat Charges High Schoolers in West Texas

A high schooler and his friends were out in the boondocks in west Texas when they encounter a white goat that stands on 2 legs and charges at them.

I recently found the following account:

"I had something strange happen to me in high school, back around 1990 in west Texas. There's not many trees where I'm from except this 2-acre patch of thick trees right off the main drag. I was with 5 of my other friends at the time and we were curious about what was in the middle of that area. That and we were looking for a place to drink where we didn't have to drive out of town and party with the coyotes and rattlesnakes. Anyhow, we pulled into a residential street behind the wooded area and all walked in. It was nighttime, not super late or anything but it was still late enough to be kind of creepy though.

We all walked in single file, with me at the front. We were all talking as we walked in trying not to act scared etc. We get far enough in that you can no longer see car lights nearby through the trees or anything. We stop for a moment because my girlfriend at the time started to really get scared and didn't want to go further. When she did this, the other 2 girls that were with us got freaked out too and didn't want to move ahead. Me, however, trying to act macho at the time said , "I ain't scared" and pushed ahead a few yards. Very soon, I could no longer see or hear my friends who should have still be very close.

I look over to my left and notice a very small clearing maybe 10 to 15 feet away I'm guessing. I notice something that catched my eye. It was white and low to the ground. Have you ever seen something and it's like your brain can't catch up to what your seeing so it doesn't really register? As I try to focus on what it is, after a very brief moment I realize it's a white goat. Might sound weird but I had never seen a goat in real-life before so this was unusual to me not to mention there were no fences or really anything to keep it where it was. So unusual I thought.

I don't know how much time elapsed for this whole experience but in hindsight, it feels like only a few seconds. But about as long as it took my brain to process that I was looking at a goat, I was overcome with fear. This thing turned to look at me, got up on 2 legs and came running directly at me. I have never been so overcome with fear in my life. That thing maybe took about 8 or 9 steps and I turned to run back the way I came. No macho anymore, I was screaming to run because a f*cking 2 legged goat was chasing me. We all hauled ass out of there and never went back.

I was so freaked out that I told my parents about it. My Dad laughed and said the property owner probably just messes with kids that sneak in there. Maybe that's the case, I don't know, but I told my Dad that whatever it was ran directly at me. I mean it wasn't dodging trees or nothing, just stood up to be maybe between 4 to 5 foot tall and came full charge straight at me on 2 legs like a human, would but with little goat legs. It's kind of funny thinking about it again actually. I still don't know exactly what I saw but it appeared as a 2-legged goat sprinting at me upright through the trees. I never heard anything, like anything at all. No footsteps, no nothing which was also weird in hindsight. Anyhow, there's my weird goat story from West Texas." LN

News & Notes: 'Goat Head' Humanoid Encountered in Southwest Alabama

A man and his girlfriend are travelling through southwest Alabama when they suddenly observe a a humanoid figure with a goat head on the highway shoulder.

I recently received the following account:

"If anyone has ever driven in Alabama, then you know it can be a creepy state to drive through. I'm not sure where to start. I have had a few experiences with the paranormal, but this is my only cryptid experience. I'm not sure what we witnessed, but we got a good look at it in broad daylight. The sighting happened just before noon.

My girlfriend and I had some time off work so we decided on a much-needed getaway for a long weekend. This was early winter 2020, so it was pretty darn cold. That being said, if you know anything about the US south it doesn't get that cold. This was one of those rare days when it was 30 or 40 degrees Fahrenheit range. I'm just trying to compile all the events surrounding the sighting so bear with me here.

We were on a highway in a swampy area. I have no idea the exact location, but I can say it was southern Alabama and close to Mississippi. There were lots of bridges. I wish we could have gotten pics, but the car was moving around 60 mph when it happened.

My girlfriend cries out for me to LOOK and I turn my head to glimpse a grotesque looking creature. This thing was hunched down on all fours possibly eating something. This all happened so fast, but I slowed down to get a better look. All of a sudden the thing stands on two legs and has a humanoid figure, all except the head. The head was goat-like, but it had the body of a man. There were horns, and overall the head area resembled a light-colored goat. The creature started back towards the woods, and we continued with our trip, but we couldn't stop talking about what we had just witnessed.

I cannot be 100% sure of what we saw, this all happened so fast. My GF swears it was a man with a goat head and I am certain I saw the same thing. If anyone has any insight into cryptids of this type or a similar sighting I'd be glad to hear.

News & Notes: 7 Foot Tall Winged Humanoid 'Lechuza' Encountered in Waukegan, Illinois

A group of friends in Waukegan see a pair of bright red eyes in the nearby bushes at a local skate park. When they investigate, they hear a strange sound and observe a 7 ft. tall winged humanoid that ascends skyward.

The following report was received by Phantoms & Monsters Fortean Research team member Manuel Navarette at UFO Clearinghouse:

Date of Sighting: October 31, 2020

Time of Sighting: Approximately 2030

Date of Report: November 2, 2020

Location of Sighting: Waukegan, Illinois

Number of witnesses: Five

Current status: Under Investigation

Sighting Details:

"It was Saturday night and it was about 8:30 at night, I was with a group of friends. There were 5 of us all together and just chilling out, hanging out and walking around doing nothing at all. We decided to stop at that convenience store across the street from the skate park and pick up some snacks and drinks. Me and 3 others were waiting outside by the bus stop for our friends to finish grabbing their stuff when we saw something moving in the trees behind us. We thought that it was just someone walking until we saw that it had red eyes. We laughed thinking it was someone with a mask on trying to prank us until we saw that it must have been like 7 feet. We decided to walk over to the bushes and see if it was someone trying to pull a bad Halloween prank on us.

We walked over and that’s when we started hearing a sound that sounded like a baby when they are crying, it was really high pitch but still sounded like a baby when they cry. As we got like closer, it got louder and louder till we were about 5-6 feet from it when we saw it shoot up into the trees and into the air. We all jumped and screamed as this thing took off into the air, still staring at us and was gone. We all ran back toward the store and told our other friends who had just come from inside. They told us to get off the drugs and that it was probably an owl or some kind of bird.

We all walked over to the skating park and jumped the fence and went to hang out inside, sitting on the edge of the bowl talking and watching our friends skate around inside the bowl. We had been there like an hour when we heard the same sound again coming from behind us. We all heard it and we turn to see the same red eyes up in the tree on the other side of the fence we had jumped to get in. We all sat there watching it for a few seconds when it flew back up into the air and we were able to barely make out that it had wings and looked like a person. My friend Javier yelled out that it was a Lechuza and we all freaked out. We watched as it flew over us twice and then flew off into the night. We all jumped the fence and walked home as fast as we could.

The entire time we were walking home, we were completely freaked the hell out and we heard the same sound three times but it always seemed to be from above and behind us. We got home and we all crashed at our friends house and didn’t leave till the morning. I’m not sure what we saw but it really scared the hell out of me and all of my friends. I really don’t care if you or anyone else don’t believe us, but we all saw and heard the same thing and we know what happened to us. We weren’t high or drunk, we were just a group of friends just trying to get out and hang out on a Saturday night."

Investigators Notes:

I was able to meet with three of the five witnesses, the other two were unable to join us due to work obligations. The three witnesses were able to recount the events of that night as they happened.

The witnesses state that they were just out and about, not really doing anything and just out enjoying the evening. One witness stated that they were tired of being cooped up at home due to the pandemic and that they all just wanted to get out and walk around the neighborhood and hang out. They stated that they frequent the convenience store that was in the report and stated that they usually hang out at the skatepark that is across the street.  When I asked about the events of that night, they each told me their version of the events individually and also as a group. They reported that they first saw the being as it was behind a stand of trees next to a vacant lot that had electrical towers on it. The witnesses were standing besides the bus stop waiting for two individuals to finish their transactions inside the convenience store and then to step outside and meet them so that they could walk over to the park. The witnesses described seeing a pair of bright ruby red eyes looking at them from behind the stand of trees that separated the vacant lot from the store parking lot. At first they thought they belong to someone who was wearing a battery powered Halloween mask and was trying to scare them. They initially laughed and pointed in the direction of  the eyes till one of them noticed that due to the height of the eyes the person would have to be extremely tall or the mak would have had to be on a pole. The witness stated that they still thought it was a prank and decided to walk over toward the spot and see if it was someone attempting to play a prank. As they walked toward the spot in the trees where they could still see the red eyes, they started to hear what sounded like a baby crying. One of the witnesses said it sounded like the crying of a baby when they are very upset or in pain yet it was at a higher pitch and much shorter. As they group approached the spot the sound became louder and more drawn out until the sound stopped and the eyes were propelled into the air. At this point the group was startled and began to fall back from the stand of trees. When asked how close they got to the trees, the witnesses all indicated at least 5-6 feet before they being took to the air. The witnessed all agree that the eyes kept locked on them until they seemed to turn around and fly away to the south over the field and toward a row of houses on the other side.

The witnesses all stated that they all yelled out loud and then took off running toward the store entrance where they met their friends who were coming out of the store. The witnesses stated that their companions laughed and made a joke about being on drugs and did not believe them at first suggesting they might have seen a large bird of an owl. The individuals stayed in front of the store for another 5-10 minutes before walking across the street and jumping the fence surrounding the skate park. The witnesses all stated that they just hung around, sitting on the edge of the bowl while two of their friends skated within. They were all talking when they heard the previously heard sound they heard before. The other two witnesses also heard it this time and indicated that it was coming from behind them. They turned to see the glowing red eyes had returned and were up in a group of trees just beyond the fence they had jumped earlier. The witnesses indicated that the being then took to the air from the trees and they saw the being looked like a tall man with wings. When asked how they were able to see that, they indicated that they were able to see it as the moon was full that night and it was faintly silhouetted against the moonlit sky. (The investigator did verify the weather forecast was for partly cloudy conditions with a full moon on the night in question) . They indicated that they could see the eyes still and that it seemed to circle them, when asked the witnesses said probably 20-25 feet or so in height above the group. The being then flew off again, this time in a northern direction toward the surrounding park.

The witnesses at this point had enough and left the skate park and began walking toward one of their houses which was approximately 20 minutes away from the skate park. When asked what they thought it was, one of the witnesses said it was probably a lechuza. Lechuza—a Spanish word for a type of owl, especially the barn owl—is a myth popular throughout northern Mexico and Texas. As the story goes, an old woman shape-shifts into a giant owl, La Lechuza, to take revenge on people who wronged her during her life. Sometimes the owl is variously depicted as black or white and sometimes with the head of the old woman. The witnesses all stated that as they walked home, they heard the sound of a baby crying on at least three occasions and that the sound seemed to be following them home. They reached their destination and stayed at that location till morning.

The witnesses were all HIspanic males, about 19-20 years in age and were all long time friends who grew up in the same general area. The witnesses all seemed to be genuinely concerned about what they saw and when asked questions intentionally meant to mislead they would respond with corrections to their account. The witnesses all told the same general story with slight variances generally indicating different point of views as one of the witnesses I met was one of the two who had been inside the store and did not see the initial encounter. He confirmed that he was inside and that when he was told what they had seen, he thought they were making the story up and did not believe them. The other two were part of the initial group who saw the being behind the row of trees and their viewpoint generally followed the narrative told in the initial report.

The investigator initially came into this investigation with doubt due to the nature of the holiday that this sighting happened and the age of the witnesses which initially pointed to this being a Halloween prank. After contacting the witnesses and their eagerness to meet face to face and talk about their sighting and after seeing the genuine looks of concern on the witnesses faces, it is the investigators opinion that this sighting has merit and that the witnesses were telling the truth.
