Fayette County Military Presence / Bigfoot Activity

The following account was in response to a recent post:

OK, the article about MIB at the coal research facility near Pittsburgh reminded me of an encounter (not to me but friends) that is somewhat sketchy at this point in my life and happened as a teenager (about 16 - I'm 58 now). Some friends were Mud-Bogging their jeeps on trails around a wooded/forested location in southwestern PA, Fayette County, that was some sort of mine research facility at that time. It was located at the base of the mountains where there were massive limestone mines. As a side note, these mines can be 30-50 feet high and as wide into the mountain possibly for a mile. They can fit the largest of earthmovers. The area is now a quarry where stone is crushed and can be purchased. You can see it at Lat 39°44'15"/ Lon 79-45-16. I dont know if the site was fenced or how they got in. (Probably not as developed at that time as shown on Google and may not have happened at that exact spot). Anyway, the story goes that my friends were confronted by ARMED military personnel in an armored Jeep and escorted out. That's about all I know. I also remember talk about large covered tractor trailers entering the site at that time at night. Coincidentally, while building the wind turbines on this mountain within the last 10 years, there were Bigfoot sightings by the construction personnel.

NOTE: The location has been known for military activity and Bigfoot sightings, according to PA Bigfoot investigator Eric Altman (Limestone caves near Connellsville, PA). Eric also forward the following track photos that were found in Ohiopyle State Park in Summer 2017. Ohiopyle State Park is near the location described in the post above. A statement from the witness accompanied the images:

"Took photos of these prints on Kentuck Trail from the Kentuck Campground area towards Thorb Knob. These prints were crossing the path in the oppisite direction and way out on the trail, not close to the campground or Thorp Knob. Took these in July 2017. The older tracks were found on Old Mitchell Place Trail in August 2017. No measurements or casting taken"

Long Beach, NY USO

I recently received the following account:

Hey Lon,

This past August of 2017, I was sitting with a few friends (all of us are between 45 and 55 yrs old) on the beach in Long Beach NY, situated between two large jetties approximately 500 yards apart. More specifically, between the Franklin Avenue and Lincoln Avenue beach entrance ramps. It was a perfect sunny day about 3pm or so. The tide was relatively low, so our position put us a few yards above sea level and you could look down a few degrees over the water.

As I stared out over the water, I suddenly saw a mist in the air just above the water, moving about 20 or 25 mph, from west to east, emanating from what seemed to be a wire or antennae from a submerged object.

It moved straight across the beach about 100 feet out, and was way too fast to be any marine life. We see a lot of dolphins and whales in the area, which wriggle or bob as a mammal would, and certainly aren't very fast. This thing moved dead straight and super fast, about the speed of a wave runner at half throttle. The water mist that trailed it came in so fast I didn't even have time to mention it to my friends. I was thinking "what the hell is that??"

It then did a 45' angle turn towards open water as it moved directly in front of me, and because of the angle above the water where we were situated, I could see the outline or shadow of the object in the water, and it was about 20 feet long (maybe longer) and shaped perhaps like a missile or long cylindrical object. It accelerated as it went further out, yet I could still see the dark shape as it headed for open water, the mist of the antennae breaking the surface the whole time. The entire episode lasted maybe 10 or 15 seconds. Weird!! I would definitely classify this as a USO (unidentifiable submerged object) and can only imagine what the hell it was doing there....observing human life along the shore? Recon?

I know this was no fish, shark, whale or dolphin....this was a machine that moved with purpose, controlled depth and speed, and possibly intent. Regards, Bobby

Pentagon Seeks 'Bat Drones'

Tired: multi-rotor copters and fixed-wing drones. Wired: flying robots that move like living animals, are crafted of next-generation materials, and draw their power not from batteries but energy beamed from nearby aircraft.

On Wednesday, the the Defense Enterprise Science Initiative, or DESI, announced a competition for basic science grants to build “new paradigms for autonomous flight, with a focus on highly-maneuverable platforms and algorithms for flight control and decision making.” An accompanying Broad Agency Announcement gets more specific: basically, they’re looking for bat-like drones that can be powered with directed-energy beams.

“The biological study of agile organisms such as bats and flying insects has yielded new insights into complex flight kinematics of systems with a large number of degrees of freedom, and the use of multi-functional flight surface materials,” the announcement reads. The Air Force believes that more and more naturalistic design — coupled with more powerful and smaller sensors to form a better picture of the outside world — should yield “significant improvements in maneuverability, survivability and stealth over traditional quadcopter or fixed wing designs.” Read more at Pentagon Seeks Laser-Powered Bat Drones

A 40-member cold-case team led by documentary filmmaker Tom Colbert and his wife, Dawna, believe they’ve cracked a code that reveals the bandit’s true identity. The FBI abandoned the case last year, citing a lack of credible leads.

A team of investigators committed to solving a decades-old cold case think they have identified the infamous skyjacker known as D.B. Cooper.

The mysterious air bandit took over a Boeing passenger plane in 1971 and jumped out on a parachute in Southwest Washington, never to be seen again.

A 40-member cold-case team led by documentary filmmaker Tom Colbert and his wife, Dawna, believe they’ve cracked a code that reveals the bandit’s true identity.

The FBI abandoned the case last year, citing a lack of credible leads.

But a letter believed to have been written by Cooper and sent to news outlets after the skyjacking has led Colbert’s team back to a likely suspect — Vietnam War veteran Robert W. Buying 'Dead Souls' on eBay

This is the world of Haunted eBay: a loose confederation of paranormal sales-people passing on their home-cooked mysticism to souls in need. HauntedDollys's business model is quite simple. As she explains over email, her supply comes from either collectors of haunted items who are downsizing, or by taking "ordinary objects" and binding "a spirit to the vessel." ("This is either done by myself or a friend of mine who's a sorcerer," she says.) If you browse her wares, you'll find a lot of items that seem to be reclaimed from your local thrift shop—passed-off ornaments of kitsch, with a vague phantasmagoric glimmer. The real work to being a successful capitalist witch is all in the presentation; creating the perfect pitch to convince the skeptics and lifers that your inventory is more supernatural than the rest.

There's no rhyme or reason to what's deemed to be haunted, though the most popular subdivision of the paranormal eBay trade by far are children's dolls. A search for "haunted dolls" yields hundreds of results. The toys themselves are fashionably Victorian—porcelain faces, frilly dresses, rosy cheeks—and each come with their own autobiographical ghost story. Like Lillian, for instance. For sale by a merchant named Fayetality, Lillian contains the spirit of a dead ten-year old girl who cracked her head open after slipping on icy steps, according to the listing. She can communicate with a potential buyer through "spirit board, pendulum, EVP, spirit dice, and in dreams."

"Please be prepared for paranormal activity if you decide to adopt sweet Lillian," writes Fayetallity. "Be assured—she is an innocent, pure child of white light. Nothing negative will ever arise from Lillian. She is beyond kind. When you feel Lillian's presence, you feel how pure her intentions are. MIB Encounter at Old Research Complex

“I knew a dude who worked the Experimental Mines - US Bureau Of Mines. It's an interesting place. 12' Double row barbed wire fence all around it, and it's pretty good size. 40°18'21.9"N 79°58'49.2"W go look for yourselves.

Anyway, There were four of us riding around aimlessly in one dude's car, we were kids, 19, or 20, all off work, driving around drinking beer and smoking joints, just having fun. We drove past the mines, and saw the one gate was open. So we turned around and decided to check it out. There was no guard in the booth, we said f**k it, lets go in and see if we can find our buddy and smoke him up. So we drove right on in, and up a hill, around a bend, and a dark blue Caprice Classic cut us off and stopped. A white Caprice Classic pulled up behind us. Two seemingly identical "men" wearing black suits with black ties, and black sunglasses approached the car. I don't remember seeing which one got out of which car. They were just there, one on either side of us. The one on the left said, "State your business here." We said we saw the gate standing open and our buddy works here, so we came in to see if we could find him. He said, "You have no business here. This is a restricted area." We repeated that the gate was standing wide open, and added that there was no guard there. He said, "You will follow me." He then walked very quickly to the car in front of us. The one on the right of us never said a word. He got in the car behind us.

We followed the blue car, with the white car behind us, around a loop road and back out thru the same, still open gate. The blue car pulled over next to the empty guard booth. We hung a right and beat feet. The white car followed us to the next intersection, maybe half a mile, and turned off. We hauled ass. Never saw that gate open again after that. It scared the crap out of us. It's a creepy looking place in the first place, with the fences it looks like a prison complex. Why would they need such intense security at a coal mine? This was long before 9/11, this was like 1983/84. Our buddy was a janitor, he didn't have access to the whole complex, just the offices he took care of. He said there was a lot of weird shit there. Mean-looking men and women with sunglasses on indoors. Guarded buildings. Army trucks. Chevy Caprice Classics, all either black, dark blue, or white.

He was particularly creeped out by one woman there, he didn't want to clean her office, another guy had to do it. This is going by what he said, I have no firsthand knowledge of it. I can tell you that the whole surrounding area has a weird vibe going on. I used to hunt, and ride dirt-bikes, and four wheel, and just joyride around in whatever vehicle I had at the moment. There are neighbourhoods bordering the complex on three sides, and woods across the road. This wasn't the first paranormal event in my life, nor was it the last, but I shared this one with three other people. I haven't spoken to any of them in years. Don't even know where they live now. But I know they saw the same thing I did.”

'Nightcrawler' Encountered in Indiana

Dustin from Elkhart, Indiana called in to tell of his weird encounter:

“I got a whale of a tale for you if you want to hear it. Are you familiar what the cryptid known as the Fresno alien or the nightcrawler? So I've been interested in these beings and I ended up finding this little stick in my yard. I ended up messing with it a little bit, planting it in the ground. It was kind of, I made it into kind of like a totem or like an effigy to these beings because, you know, they've been seen in cities. I mean the first video was in a parking lot in Fresno.

So a few months pass after I stuck this in my yard and I kept envisioning, you know, using that intention, I kept envisioning meeting one of these beings while I was walking around the city. I get back to my buddy's house one night. I come inside, change clothes to help my brother work on his car... getting the gas tank in really sucked but anyway, so we're standing outside smoking a cigarette and - dead silent out - I heard these leaves crunching over in these trees about half a block from my house. I look over there and I'm like, 'What the hell?' There's this black figure, white-like, white feet, taking really slow steps and then it walked behind a tree and I didn't see it. I was like, 'The hell?' You know, the Spidey sense starts tingling. So I go back to talking to my brother and then I hear the leaves crunching again and this figure, well, I'm about 6'4. It's probably about a foot shorter than me. There's, like I said, solid black, white feet had a little bit of blue on the head and I, like, there's kind of like a waving pattern on the bottom of the legs. It just took real slow steps in a direct line towards me and then it stopped. It scared me. I looked over to my brother. I was like, 'Dude, there's somebody standing over there in those trees!' He starts wincing a little bit. He's like, 'Yeah, you know, I don't see anything.'

So at this point, I started having a bit of an anxiety attack and my first instinct was to run over to the gate and shut it but I had this, I kept getting this like intuitive pulse like a kind of punch to the back of the head that I should grab the staff that I made, and then go over there and talk to this person. I ignored that. I went over and shut the gate and at this point this entity began walking away, like, all right, you know, you don't want to come and play, screw it! And what walked away was, it definitely, it fit the bill of a nightcrawler; long ass legs, they bent both ways and, you know, like as soon as I saw this entity. I about crapped my pants, man, I'm not gonna lie. (Jimmy asks him to clarify what it looked like) It was weird. Like it doesn't, it, like, every nightcrawler that I've ever seen has, it was white. All three videos have been white even when there was two in the same spot. This one had different colors to it. (Church asks if his brother saw it) It was the weirdest thing, he didn't see it. He didn't hear the footsteps either. It was the weirdest shit.”

“In 2013, I was driving back from a visit to my mother's house - about 60 miles - a trip I made around 3 times a month. Part of this involved driving along the A13 in Essex, UK. This evening (still daylight), I was driving westbound. I passed over the turn off for Tilbury, and 1 mile later, passed the exit for Grays, and a further mile took me to the point where the Lakeside Shopping mall traffic joined the A13. This is an area I know very well, and have often been shopping in the Lakeside mall. Another 1/2 mile took me over the M25 motorway and onto the final stretch home.

Suddenly, I realised that something was wrong. Where the traffic had been light/medium, it had now become very light and I noticed that I was crossing over the Tilbury exit/flyover. I had suddenly 'lost' 2 1/2/ miles of travel. The radio was still playing the same program and I was driving in the correct lane, at a normal speed (about 60 mph), with the nearest traffic probably about 200-300 metres both in front and behind. I have never used drugs and drink very sparingly (never before driving) Nothing out of the ordinary has ever happened to me before. I have always put it down to a 'brainfart' and have never really shared this with anyone before, take it as you will - accept - reject - call me a storyteller - this is a true experience.”

The Zebrina Mystery

The following mystery-at-sea was published in the "Sydney Morning Herald" on April 12, 1941:

According to recent cables, a 200 ton ship crossed the Irish Sea without a crew, and with her engines running, berthed herself in an inlet on the West Coast of Britain,with only an inch to spare from dangerous rocks. The vessel had caught fire and had been abandoned by the crew when the flames gained control. This strange happening recalls one of the most puzzling sea mysteries of the last war--a mystery as baffling as the more famous case of the Marie Celeste.

This was the strange affair of the British schooner, Zebrina. which, on October 17, 1917, was found drifting off Cherbourg (France), undamaged in any way, with all sails set, but without a soul on board, although the tables were prepared for a meal for the crew. No trace of the ship's complement was ever found and their fate remains unsolved.

The Zebrina was of sturdy oak. built at Whitstable in 1873. Rigged as a three masted fore-and-aft schooner, the vessel was 109 feet long, with a registered tonnage of 185 tons gross, and capable of carrying about 300 tons of cargo. In 1917 she was one of the many vessels engaged in transporting coal from Falmouth to the French port of St. Brieuc, south of Cherbourg. At the time the Zebrina was under the command of Captain Archibald Martin, the other members of the crew being four British seamen,W. H. Beck, W. F. D. Bourke, M. Faus, and G. Steward.

On the afternoon of October 15. 1917, the vessel, fully loaded with coal, left Falmouth and set sail for St. Brieuc a voyage which she usually covered in about thirty hours. On this occasion, however, the Zebrina never reached her destination. Nothing was heard of her until early on the morning of October 17, when the French authorities found her derelict in the English Channel outside Cherbourg.

To the amazement of the naval party, the Zebrina was found to be in perfect condition, but every member of her crew was missing. She swung idly about with all her sails set and flapping. The sea was flat-calm, and in the cabin was a table set for a meal that had been partly prepared. The galley fire was still burning.

But no trace of the missing crew could be discovered. The men's clothing and other personal belongings were still on board; the ship's papers and log book had not been removed; and the only lifeboat that the vessel carried still swung in its davits. Completely mystified by their discovery, the French authorities had the vessel towed to Cherbourg, where, after the coal had been removed, the schooner was closely examined by marine surveyors. She bore not the slightest damage anywhere, and was not even leaky!

Although at first it was presumed that the missing men might have fallen victims to a German U-boat, there was no evidence to support this theory. If the vessel had been stopped by a U-boat she would have been blown up, as so many other ships engaged in transporting coal to France had been destroyed when stopped by enemy submarines. Other evidence against the U-boat theory was the fact that the Zebrina's papers and log book were still on board. The German submarine commanders were under strict orders to take back the papers of the ships they destroyed, so that there would be indisputable evidence as to their activities: when they boarded a vessel or signalled the captain to come off, the ship's papers were the first things they demanded.

A more logical theory is that the Zebrina was caught in the severe gale which swept through the English Channel on the night of October 16. It is believed that the five men may have been all on deck, attempting to keep the heavily-laden vessel's head to the wind, when a giant wave broke on board and swept them all overside into eternity.

After the war a memorial was erected to the crew at Trinity House, London.

Two Unknown Entities Suddenly Disappear

Port Huron, MI - 2017-06-14: Was at the park June 14th 2017 early afternoon and I saw two what I thought were people walking straight towards me. It had to be about 40 feet away when the female looked up and was arguing with the male that was riding on a bicycle on the grass. They did not notice me looking at them so they kept coming toward me for probable 10 more steps.

The male was having a hard time riding the bicycle. Their arguing was loud but I could not figure out what they were saying because it did not sound like english. I was shocked to see that their bodies did not look like a humans body. The male looked more normal to me because he was in long jeans but was in a short sleeve shirt. The only thing that was strange was that it looked like he did not know how to ride a bicycle. Granted, he was on grass but still he did not have control of the bicycle at all.

As they walked and road the bicycle past me I tried to take a picture with my phone and when I snapped the picture, she seen what i was doing and changed directions and walked away from me as the picture snapped.

I looked away for less than one second and when I looked back they were gone from sight. The thing is - that there was no way they could get out of my sight that fast and me not see them. - MUFON

“I was sitting in this hole in wall bar that I'd gone to many times, I wasn't with any friends this night. It was in 2000. This one night there's maybe six or eight people in the bar and I noticed an old man sitting at the end who'd I've never seen before. He wasn't a regular. He was just staring at me. I looked his way maybe 3 or 4 more times and he's still staring. I just chalk it up to him being a dirty old man since I'm 32 and he's around 60. I decide not to look at him anymore, maybe 20 minutes later someone taps me on the shoulder. I turn around and it's him, and with the uttermost conviction he says 'you're going to die in the year 2018' then turns and walks out of the bar. I just sat there with my mouth open for a minute, got up walked out to look for him. I saw him walking down the street and thought about going after him to ask him about why he'd said that, but I didn't. I went to that place many more times until they closed it down but I never saw him again. I guess this year I'll find out for sure if he knew what he was talking about.”

Mutilated Wild Boar?

Lake Wales, FL - 2018-01-02: 9:45 am on the morning of January 2nd 2018, my wife Tina and I were traveling along Moore Rd in Polk City, Florida. We were looking for bald eagles, which my wife had seen earlier that morning along the same stretch of road.

At 11191 Moore Rd we pulled our car over, got out and began observing the area for eagles. We did not find any, however, something else caught our attention. Two dead wild boars on the side of the road. Both bodies presented in typical cattle mutilation conditions. There was very little decomposition and the animals skin looked to be almost surgically removed. Perhaps even stranger than the presence of the bodies, was the fact that there were two, lying right next to each other. We both agreed that it was highly unlikely that two wild boars would be hit at the exact same time in the exact same place.

Upon further investigation of the seen we detected no unusual smells, or observed anything else out of the ordinary. There was no blood in the road and the animals did not appear to have been dragged to their final positions. It looked as if they had been drained and dropped there. - MUFON

Aliens on the Streets!

Cambridge, Ontario, Canada - 2017-07-22: I was waiting for a bus when this van pulled up. Weird creatures or unhuman looking people popped out. You can see the outline of their face and eye sockets wearing black and alien color grey color. I am not sure exactly what they were. After they left people were complaining of their cell phones crashing or they suddenly stopped working. I've seen drone-like flying objects in the sky before and now this happen. It is unknown if their human or alien or even another species. We don't know it exists. It's creeping me out. It honestly looked like they were looking at me. After a minute or so, after people and myself took photos and made it clear we took the photos, they took off. I moved out of the city and still am in shock. Don't know what it is to this day. - MUFON

How 'Evil' is the Supernatural?

I recently received the following narrative:

Hi Lon,

My name is Andrew. I'm 38, live in Illinois, and have mostly lived my whole life in the midwest. The one thing that might set me apart from most people is my religious upbringing. My father is a pastor, my mother's family being the reason he ever turned toward faith in the first place. We've had 3 pastors in our family, most of my extended family attends church regularly--very much a 'Bible Belt' kind of upbringing... except many of us have had experiences.

These aren't precisely ET/UFO experiences (although a close family friend once worked security at Wright-Patterson and said he had seen 'Them'). Our experiences (and of those people around us who have also experienced things) are very much of a spiritual nature. My mother has seen at least one 'ghost'. One of her sisters almost died from a truck running a stop except someone said her name right before entering the intersection which made her stop--she was alone in the car.

When my grandfather died from cancer at the hospital, my mother and my 2 aunts happened to be walking through the hallway when the other sister saw '2 angels carrying him away' and she said, "He's gone". They went back to the room to discover he had just passed at that moment.

My aunt and uncle's house had some apparition that materialized every now and then as a green light or a green humanoid form.
That thing seemed mostly to appear to one of my cousins till he moved out, then to his youngest brother afterwards. There used to be footsteps in the hallway at night when no one was out of bed, and once the toilet upstairs flushed when everyone was downstairs watching tv (which my grandmother joked about about saying at least it was potty trained).

I went once to confront/investigate the bedroom it typically showed up in (which was always cold, but was the most interior room and furthest walking distance from the front door) and as soon as I turned the doorknob, the lights went out--which made me rethink that particular choice.

I have personally experienced sleep paralysis/terrifying dreams and have seen shadow figures twice in my life (once as a child and once recently). My experiences are limited, but many around me have shared theirs. I have had a college roommate from Kenya who was spontaneously invited by a friend to attend and help in an exorcism in a neighboring village (in Kenya) where the supposedly possessed man greeted him by name and said "we have been expecting you"--even though he had never met or seen him before and no one there knew he was even coming to the village for this exorcism. The pastor of the current church we are attending has had and still has members of his family involved in Santeria/Vodoo from Cuba. He has seen some stuff, but we haven't had much conversation to delve into the specifics of that story yet.

Basically, I say all this to say one thing: The supernatural is very real. Many of your readers, I'm sure, are aware of this. However, many may not be aware of the reality BEHIND these experiences. This is where things get controversial. I believe all supernatural and paranormal happenings stem from one of two sources. One source is good and amazing and full of love and hope. It is pure. It's rarer than the other kind, but it is openly truthful about its nature.

The other kind seems to be more common but very sinister. And above all, it is deceptive. It does all it can to appear to be one thing while hiding its real nature--which is evil. It may appear or even feel like it is good and benevolent, but only so far as you obey its demands and suggestions without questioning it. As soon as you do that... look out.

If there's one thing that really pisses off the Devil, it's calling him out on his bullsh*t. Don't take aliens or ghosts or Mothman or Sasquatch or anything else paranormal/supernatural for face value. The Bible says we should 'test the spirits' and ascertain if they are truly are what they say they are. I believe in spiritual warfare, and it is a very tricky battlefield.

Sightings and experiences may be increasing in the upcoming years. Be ready. Do not be deceived. Andrew

NOTE: For the most part, Andrew is correct...dealing with the supernatural is a constant battle. A person does not need to be religious in order recognize and take on evil. As far as being wary of unknown entities and otherworldly beings...absolutely. But evil is not around every corner. Many of us are aware of incorporeal entities on our Earth plane, but the veil does occasionally open between worlds. We must be cognizant of 'visitors' with the ability to transverse the divide between these realities. Their intentions are not always clear, but they are an evident measure of our lives. Summer 2016 - Chesterland, Ohio, USA: “I had a very similar encounter with the winged creature myself and even posted the story of what happened to a group on Facebook that talks about things. I’m 32 years old and had never seen anything supernatural or alien in my life until last summer. I had always been and still am very much a skeptic, and to this day I try to convince myself that what I saw was actually a really big hawk or something...but I know I'm lying to myself.

It was around 3:45 AM, I'm driving west on 322 towards Chesterland, Ohio. I'm driving a Freight-liner box truck with a load of newspapers. In the summer time at night, there's always a layer of fog hanging down around the ground, and the moon was bright and the stars were out. Going about 50 mph through the hills I see this dark figure in the moonlight that was coming right at me. It looked HUGE so I slammed the brakes and actually ducked down instinctively because I was driving right towards it at windshield level. I heard a big THUD as the figure had gone over the cab and smacked right into the flat aluminium box right behind the cab at probably 40 mph. I kept my foot on the brake and came to a stop on the side of the road probably about 75 yards from where the impact happened. Wondering if it had smashed in the top of the box and thinking maybe I could see what it was I hit, I got out looked around. The box wasn't smashed in so I walked around to the back of the truck and that's when I saw it in the moonlight almost as clear as day.

This things was HUGE. I thought for sure it was dead, but all of a sudden it rolled over and that's when I saw it's "bat-like" wings, not bird shaped. It rolled over and stood up on 2 legs and was at least 6 feet tall. The thing looked right at me with it's red/orange eyes and I was literally frozen in fear. I could not move at all. Then it spread it's huge wings out, jumped up and flew off. I ran back to the truck and took off towards Chesterland as fast as I could and spent the rest of the night on edge and trying to rationalize what I had just saw. The closest thing I could describe it to is the Jeepers Creepers monster, but I wasn't that close to it that I could see facial features and much detail. Just the 6 foot tall bat winged man with orange-red eyes. I do that route for work every week and every time I go through that stretch on 322 I get uneasy. It freaks me out almost 6 months later.”

Frankenstein 200th Anniversary

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the publication of Mary Shelley's classic novel Frankenstein - first printed on 1 January 1818.

Shelley came up with the idea at the age of 18 after being challenged by romantic poet Lord Byron, while in Switzerland, to construct a ghost story. The results were to have a monumental impact. This was the kernel from which the story of Frankenstein would emerge.

The novel - originally published without Shelley's name - received mixed reviews, but came into prominence after being picked up and re-versioned by theatre companies a few years later. However, it was cinema that really took the ball and ran with it.

The first adaptation for the silver screen was made in 1910. Since then, there have been about 150 further versions on different mediums. But why is the story still such a success and how close are modern adaptations to Shelley's original novel? Read more at Frankenstein: Behind the monster smash

Another Brit Mysteriously Bursts Into Flames

A man died after he burst into flames on a street in Hull, England, on Wednesday, two weeks after London police issued a plea for witnesses of another similar incident.

Daniel Lingwood, a resident of Hull, looked out of his window to see flames across the road, according to a local newspaper. He immediately rushed outside to help the victim, who has not been named.

“There were some women going round to get buckets of water to chuck over him, but I have done first aid before and I knew that would be bad for his skin, so me and another bloke tried to roll him on the ground to put the fire out,” reported The Hull Daily Mail.

Detective Superintendent Dave Wood, a local policeman, said emergency services were called just after 8 p.m. following reports of a man on fire. According to The Hull Daily Mail, the man was unable to be saved and died at the scene.

Police are currently appealing for witnesses. The circumstances around why the man was set alight remains unknown, but Wood has said the police are not currently looking for anyone in connection with the incident. Snowy Highway Strangeness...and Loud Plaid Pants

I recently received the following account:

Hi Lon, I really enjoy your Phantom and Monsters website. Especially, lycan/dogmen encounters and BEK reports. I just wanted to relate a strange tale that happened to me and my brother-in-law. If you decide to print this story please do not use my real name. Thanks.

I would like to preface this story by saying that I have also sent this letter to David Paulides in case it ties into his 'Missing 411' research. Your recent article on Unexplained Disappearances has prompted me to send this to you also.

It is also worth mentioning that I have experienced an unusual amount of paranormal events in my life, some of these events very frightening. I am now 52 years old, and these events happen much less frequently, which I consider a blessing. Usually just small things happen now, like the occasional street light turning off as I approach.

For the purpose of this story I am not using my brother-in-law’s real name. I will call him Jack.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, although, this event occurred over 20 years ago and the details are fuzzy.

This event took place in November, sometime in the early 1990’s. I had spent a few days alone, hunting deer out at the family cabin located just south of Springville, New York. At the time I did not own a vehicle capable of traversing the snow covered dirt road which led to the cabin. My brother-in-law Jack owned a large 4X4 pick up. He and my sister lived in the area so he was going to swing by the cabin and pick me up. He worked in Buffalo as a diesel mechanic, and was going to drop me off at my parents house nearby.

It was about 5am we were driving north on US Route 219. The road was dark and we seemed to be the only vehicle in sight. After a while we could see a the faint light of another vehicle in front of us. As we approached we realized the the vehicle was pulled of on the side of the road. I can’t remember if the cars lights were off, but there was a strange orange glow flickering from within the vehicle. At first I thought the car was on fire. We slowed down to see if we could be of help. I remember slowing down to a crawl, but Jack says we actually pulled over and stopped. We remained in our vehicle. We could not see anyone in or near the car. This was the early 90’s and neither of us had a cell phone, or else we would have called 911. We were not sure what to do. We discussed approaching the car, but I hesitated. After a few seconds I got a bad feeling about this. The orange light did not have the random flicker of a flame, nor did the light have a regular blinking of an emergency lantern/flashlight. This light seemed to have a weird pulsating to it.

I convinced Jack to pull away and keep driving. We would pay attention to the news and see if there was any mention of this vehicle or any crime associated with the vehicle. It never made the news, and we went on with our lives.

This tale starts to get strange, as two or three months later Jack tells me that he was on his regular early morning commute, when his truck was stopped by a road block on the 219. An officer who was dressed like a detective asked him if he witnessed a car pulled over a couple months back. The officer described the vehicle we had seen, and Jack quickly related to the officer our encounter with this vehicle. The officer then told him to drive on. It seems odd that the officer did not ask him to pull over and try to get further details? Isn’t that the whole point of a road-block, you finally get a witness and then you let them drive away?

This story should end there, but an even stranger detail has recently emerged. Not long ago I was talking to Jack, and our encounter with this vehicle came up. We were trying to remember the details, and our accounts differ slightly. I remember the vehicle's driver door being open, he remembers it closed. Then he talked about him being stopped by the road block and wondering why the detective was wearing crazy plaid pants? Now this is a detail he left out the first time he told me that part of the tale. Apparently the officer/detective was wearing loud plaid pants! I know in the 1950’s and 60’s golfers and hunters wore plaid pants. Like I said earlier, the road-block occurred a couple months after we encountered the strange vehicle and hunting season was over. I just can’t imagine why this officer would be wearing plaid pants? Is it an interrogation technique meant to distract the person you are questioning?

Now I would not even bother relating this tale, but I think the plaid pants aspect truly brings this encounter into the realm of the high-strange. What was happening inside that car? Did we just miss, or interrupt some sort of abduction event? For the record, Jack is a skeptic, he considers this even to be very odd, but not paranormal in nature. He has never had any interest in the paranormal. I however, have had many brushes with the paranormal and have become quite sensitive to these matters. I hope there is something here you find of value in your own research. DB

NOTE: An oddity that creeps into an already strange event...seems like a story made for an episode of 'The X-Files' or another fringe TV program. I don't have an explanation to offer the witness, but I would be interested in receiving your personal bizarre stories so the readers can present their thoughts. Lon
