I loved Nate with all my heart and the tragedy of losing him became somehow manageable when his ghost visited me. I never would have believed, if it hadn’t happened so many times. But it’s real. It’s possible for me to still be with Nate -- even if nobody else believes me.Lily things I’m nuts, which is why she was so in favor of my being counseled by Ethan. If my work hadn’t insisted, I would never have agreed to it. And if I had known that being near Ethan would lead to even more heart ache, well...At least he doesn’t make me feel as if I’m going crazy for saying that I can see Nate. He’s been through something this side of horrible as well. Maybe that’s why he’s the only one who doesn’t look at me with pity. Yeah, I could fall for him.But in doing so, I would lose Nate. I just know it. I lose a bit of him every day and it just tears me apart to betray his memory, even when he tells me to go on with my life. The only way to figure out this mess of my life is to spend time away from both of them. So that’s just what I’m going to do. Looking out into the distance, I can see the high peaks of these mountains that encompass the National Parks Recreation Area. They extend for miles from inland valleys, up and over the passes, to the ocean shore. One could spend hours and days, weeks and months, and never have the chance to explore every inch of them. It was a perfect escape.

Erotic Excerpt 1 ~Christmas Fantasy Excerpt~ #TeamDevinDevin took a deep, calming breath. Alyssa was off limits. Even if she were single and interested in him, he still couldn’t have her. It was too risky. She made him feel things he wasn’t used to. He didn’t know if he could handle touching her without hurting her.Hurting Alyssa was something he would never do. He would just have to endure her presence. He would take pleasure in the shy smiles she cast his way every now and again. He would enjoy the laughs they shared while working late some evenings. He would maintain the professional relationship they had, even though he yearned for a taste of her.Devin turned and placed his back against the window. He stared at the door that separated him from the woman he desired. A piece of metal and space was all that separated his body from hers. It would only take a couple of strides for him to reach the door. One pull on the door knob and he could send it flying across the room. Then he would be face to face with the one woman in this world that made him wish he wasn’t a beast with a conscience. If he had no conscience, he would take her, now, against his desk, against her desk, against the wall, on every damn hard surface in this building. He would make sure she enjoyed it. He would make sure he pleased her so thoroughly that she wouldn’t even think of leaving him, even when she found out that he was not the man he pretended to be. Devin sighed, but that would never happen. Because though he was a beast, he did indeed have a conscienceThat conscience kept her safe from him… for now.

I can’t get her to look at me, I think she’s ashamed that she has no experience to go with. When I’m finally begging, she looks up and I can’t help it. She looks so lost, so sad. I know that she just needs the courage, but how will she ever find it if she doesn’t know what the reward is like? So I lean over, I place my hand on her cheek, and my lips on hers. She doesn’t freak out, so I use my tongue to entice her. I run it along her lower lip. I feel her breathing pick up and I’m nervous she’ll push me away, but when she doesn’t I try to coax her lips apart so I can really kiss her. When she opens them, her tongue meets mine and I have to keep repeating to myself, “Slow, slow, slow,” or my body might take over and try to push her past her limits. She’s not ready for more than this.I don’t let myself linger too long. I would love to kiss her all night, but she needs baby steps. I need to give her that or this won’t work. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t help myself, but I should’ve made sure it was okay first.” I say it knowing that she needed the surprise of it or it would’ve never happened. Her response takes me by surprise, “Don’t. Be. Sorry.” She is breathing hard and can’t form a sentence. I love it. That means she loved it. When she brings her hand up to touch her lips, I know I can make this better for her. I stop her hand with mine and leaving the other on her cheek, I lean back in for a deeper kiss. She responds immediately. I make this one longer, but not much. This time when I pull back, we are both panting for air.“Wow.” A simple statement from her confirming that she liked it.

Book review: 5 Stars for Crosscurrents by Jane Jackson.

Crosscurrents is set in 1830's Cornwall when the battle between steam and sail was gathering strength.Having taken control of the packet service which delivered mail from the Cornish port of Falmouth to ports all over the globe, the Admiralty wanted to replace sail with steam. Their plan was to increase profits by shortening journey times through removing reliance on fair winds. However, most naval officers of the day had little mechanical knowledge, and no desire to learn about dirty engines. Neither had they any understanding of, or sympathy for, the engineers who in most cases were civilians provided by the engine manufacturers.  To many deck officers, the sign of an efficient and attentive engine-room staff was plenty of smoke billowing from the funnel, and steam constantly blowing from the safety valve.  But engineers knew these signs indicated all kinds of problems.  These early steam ships were powered by paddle wheels – one on each side - driven by a pair of engines supplied with steam from two or more boilers. Side-mounted paddle wheels worked well on the American river boats such as those carrying cargo and passengers up and down the Mississippi because rivers are usually calm. But ocean-going paddle-wheel steamers were appallingly uncomfortable.  Wave motion caused the paddle wheels to dig into the water at different times and different depths.  This resulted in a jerky waddling motion that made even hardened sailors seasick.           These early steamships were constantly running out of coal, because the Admiralty hadn't organised enough refuelling ports.  With no sails to fall back on, this meant burning spars, bulkheads, even furniture to raise enough steam to get back to port. These ships also suffered frequent mechanical breakdown due to heavy wear in the engines. But the greatest danger was boiler failure. When a boiler failed the resulting explosion destroyed the ship, killing everyone on board.

Excerpt:The heat in the steam packet’s engine room was stifling. Santo had shed his coat and waistcoat soon after the ship left Falmouth. His cravat had followed, stuffed into the pocket of his trousers, and his shirtsleeves were rolled up. At the sound of a groan, a muffled curse, then the thump of a falling body, he glanced round and saw the stoker had collapsed. Will McAndrew heaved a sigh. ‘Here, boy, soak rags in the water bucket and wrap ’em loosely round his head and throat. Then see if you can get a pint of small beer down him.’ Boy. I’m twenty-eight. But he knew Will used the term in fondness, not as an insult. Following the chief engineer’s instructions, Santo dragged the semi-conscious stoker into a corner away from the boiler’s heat. After draining a tankard of small beer himself, he poured another and offered it to Will who swallowed it without pause for breath. ‘I’ll go and ask Lt Hellings for another stoker.’ Leaving Will anxiously studying the gauges Santo climbed the wooden ladder. As he reached the deck he breathed deeply, glad of fresh air after the heat and acrid reek of soot and hot metal below. He thought of Bronnen, her shy smile, rosy blush, and those amazing eyes, greenish-brown with glints of gold. He had seen them spark in anger, widen in amazement, and soften in trust as she allowed him past the wariness she wore like a protective cloak. But last night in the lantern’s glow they had been bottomless pools. Her passionate response to his kisses had ignited a desire as complex as it was powerful. He wanted her with every fibre of his body. But he also wanted to protect her, even from his own hunger. She had kissed him with searing honesty, holding nothing back. Afterwards he could see she was as startled as he was by her response to him. Recognising her naivety, he had also recognised the responsibility this placed on him. He could have taken what he so badly wanted. She would have let him. But the aftermath would have been devastating for her, and he would never have been able to look himself in the eye again. Instead, drawing on strength he didn’t know was in him he had stepped back. Still lost in the feelings he had stirred she had gazed up at him, her eyes wide, dazed. Looking into the limpid depths he had felt himself falling. He wasn’t good with words, not like Richard Vaughan. But holding her hand, fighting the fierce desire she aroused in him, he had seen both her strength and her fragility. It made her trust in him a gift all the more valued. He had known her only days yet couldn’t get her out of his thoughts. Nor did he want to. Watching her suspicion of his engine change to astonishment then fascination had given him more pleasure than he had felt in a long time. In the brewhouse he had seen exhaustion etched on her face – the physical cost of completing the brew on her own. Yet she had not spoken a single word of complaint. It was plain as day she knew her job. So why did he feel this powerful need to protect her? Glancing aft he saw two officers leaning miserably over the side in the throes of seasickness. Three seamen sprawled by the forward bilges in similar straits. He sighed, unsurprised. For the first hour he had felt unpleasantly queasy himself. Only through fierce concentration on the machinery had he overcome it. The change from sail to steam power was intended to shorten voyage times by removing dependence on erratic winds. But looking at the suffering seamen Santo wondered how many crews would survive this so-called progress. He glanced skyward. When he had stepped aboard, a speedwell-blue sky had been reflected in the sparkling sea. Now a blanket of high cloud patterned like a mackerel’s side covered the sky, and a stiffening breeze curled the tops of the waves into foam. He returned to the engine room. ‘It’s just you and me, Will.’ Santo unbuttoned his shirt. ‘There isn’t a man to spare.’ ‘Sick, are they?’ Santo nodded. ‘And two of the officers.’ Stripping down to his drawers, he borrowed the stoker’s canvas trousers and started shovelling coal into the fiery mouth of the ever-hungry boiler. Four hours later, the muscles of his back and shoulders ached like an abscessed tooth. He wondered how much longer he could keep going, and thought of Bronnen doing the work of two. He straightened, wincing. Leaning on the shovel, waiting for his heartbeat to slow, he pulled a filthy rag from his waistband. As he wiped sweat and coal dust from his face he glanced across at the engineer who looked a decade older than his fifty years. Will gestured helplessly. ‘I gave Lt Hellings the extra speed hewanted. He must’ve known it would use up more coal. If Annear’s had delivered what I ordered – ’ Will shook his head. ‘We’d still be short.’ Santo eyed him, careful to keep his tone free of accusation. ‘You took a hell of a risk holding down the safety valve.’ As Will’s furrowed cheeks flushed brick red with shame, Santo wanted to shake the lieutenant until his teeth rattled. ‘You weren’t s’posed to see that.’ ‘I’m not blaming you. If I was in your place I might have done the same.’ ‘Before we left Falmouth,’ Will said, ‘the lieutenant told me if we didn’t reach speed today he’d have to put it in his report. What choice did I have? But I tell you straight, boy, I didn’t like it. Not at all.’ Shaking his head he turned away, rubbing his haggard features with a filthy rag as if that might wipe away his guilt. Santo was furious with the Admiralty whose demands for speed and economy were contradictory and unworkable. Lt Hellings demanded results but took no account of the dangers involved. And Hall’s, who had built the engine, had put Will in an impossible position. Sweat trickled down his face and chest leaving pale tracks through the grime. As he inhaled, the hot dust-thickened air caught in his throat making him cough. Refilling the pewter mug Will passed it across. Santo gulped down the weak beer and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. ‘I’ve met some fools in my time but the lieutenant is one of the worst.’ He handed Will the empty mug then peered into the coalbunker. ‘How much is left?’ Will asked. ‘Less than a quarter.’ Will blew out a breath. ‘Not enough to get us back to Falmouth.’ Dropping his shovel onto the gritty floor Santo started for the ladder. ‘I’ll go and tell Lt Hellings. Any crew still on their feet had better find us something to feed the boiler with before it goes out, or God alone knows how long we’ll be stuck out here.’

Book Blurb:
Santo Innis  is developing a revolutionary new engine to counter the lethal effects of high-pressure steam. His backer is Richard Vaughan, heir to Frederick Tregarron, owner of Gillyvean estate.           Following the tragic deaths of his wife and baby son, Richard immersed himself in work. But his world is turned upside down by the unexpected arrival at Gillyvean of Melanie Tregarron, a talented artist and Frederick’s illegitimate youngest daughter.   Desperate to prove the viability of his invention, Santo persuades Richard to let him fit one at Gillyvean’s brewhouse.  But when Bronnen Jewell - worried about her mother's suffering at her father's hands - arrives to brew the harvest beer she's horrified, fearing loss of the income on which she depends. As the lives of these four become entwined, a shocking revelation shatters Bronnen’s world; desperate for money Santo makes a choice that costs him everything; Melanie fears she will never be free of her past; and Richard has to face his deepest fear.
5 Star review
I received the book from the touring host for an honest review. This was such an awesome read. I have never read Ms. Jackson's books before, but now I am definitely making a plan to add them to my TBR list and read more. If this book was any indication, I will love to read more from her pen. The plot, the characters, every scene, even the topic was masterly crafted into the 1830's period. When all technology was relatively new, and many were skeptical of any new changes. Because of this skepticism many lives were lost. It took courages men to stand up and fight for what they believed was the right thing to do, that changed the minds of the people. We get to know four people, Bronnen, Melanie, Santo and Richard. Each battling with their own fears, turmoil and mistakes as the story unfolds. But I must say that I was really impressed with the two women's strong characters, facing obstacles, standing their ground as they tried to come to grips with who they were, accepting themselves and moving on. Despite what people might say or men treated them they stayed true to themselves, giving themselves only to the men that really mattered. They were stubborn, willing to proof themselves, gifted and not afraid to work hard at their respective crafts. The one very talented with her sketchpad and pencil always at hand; for the other, to make the perfect beer, learned from her mother when she was still very young. A beautiful and supportive friendship formed between them, with their lives so much a like, even though it seemed they were worlds apart. A fast paced gripping story that was told with so much emotion that takes you on a wonderful journey as you enjoy the wonder of a great historic romance. Experiencing the pain and laughter with these four made the book believable and the story realistic. A great asset for any bookshelf or Kindle.

Guest Post: Why Military books?  Well, my stories aren’t really military books, they’re military romances. They chronicle the stories of the fighting men and women of our time, since I write contemporary. It isn’t about the fighting, it’s about the men and women who have to come to terms with it, deal with Dr. Death on his terms, and some who pay the ultimate sacrifices.

I think a theme for me in this military vein is that by risking life and limb, life is lived perhaps more fully. I write the SEAL community as seeing life as a precious gift, not to be taken for granted. They will be the first (the SEALs) to say (and I do this in each book) they fight so we don’t have to think about anything but going to the mall, having coffee with friends, and spend weekends just enjoying our lives.

So what better hero than the one who would lay down his life for the innocent? Who puts himself second behind his teammates in time of war, or behind his country and his family in peacetime. Naturally, most of my stories occur back in the States (or on a cruise ship as in Cruisin’ For A SEAL), when the realities of love, and lust, emotional ups and downs with the backdrop of the SEAL community occurs. It’s about what they do when they fall in love. When these big tough, highly trained individuals fall in love and live their “ordinary” lives extraordinarily.

EXCERPT
Kate waited on the front porch of Gretchen’s home, watching the waterway below and listening to the sounds of late afternoon boat traffic. The constant commercial noise and the way the river meandered on its way out to the ocean was comforting. Life was in order and would go on as planned, even though her life felt, after this morning’s plane ride and adventure at the donut shop, chaotic.Gretchen waved as she maneuvered her car up the steep driveway along the side of her house. Kate heard car doors slam and the voices of Gretchen’s three girls. The back door bang and she heard the patter of little feet racing towards the front door. Angela, the youngest, barely four years old, struggled to open the heavy wooden door of the large two-story bungalow. Her face was streaked with smudged Indian war paint.“Auntie Kate!!” the little one squealed as she ran to her and embraced Kate’s knees. Clover and Rebecca, Angela’s two older sisters, hovered in the doorway, waiting for the hug fest to end. Clover appeared to have grown nearly a foot, and resembled her handsome basketball player father.“What’s the matter with you guys? Clover, Rebecca, get over here,” Kate commanded. In two long steps, Clover had traversed the distance between them and bowed her head, giving Kate a tentative hug. The girl was nearly Kate’s height. Rebecca pushed Angela out of the way and took her place at Kate’s knees.Gretchen appeared next and walked over to complete the group hug.“Sorry about the mix-up. Angela’s preschool had an event I forgot about.” She turned to her daughter. “Angie, you need to wash that face now. Part of your war paint is already somewhere in my car or in the house or—” she checked Kate’s pants to be sure she hadn’t been slimed. “Oh good, you’re unscathed.”Kate shared a grin with her sister. Despite curly hair that went everywhere—something she’d inherited from their father—her lack of makeup, and the ripped jeans/fluffy sweatshirt ensemble, Gretchen looked happy. Happier than she’d appeared in years.“Looking good, Gretchen. You have your spark back,” Kate said. The comment didn’t get past Clover. “Mom’s got a new boyfriend,” she said around her braces.Good for you, Gretchen. “Ah, so that’s what it is.” Kate examined Clover for evidence the new man was a problem for her. It had been a very public divorce after her dad, the awesome professional basketball player, had been outed doing shots and disco dancing with a coed about half his age. Up until his indiscretion, if it could be called that, he’d been the golden boy of the family. She was proud that her sister refused his attempts at reconciliation and only accepted a minimal amount of child support, even though he had at least a seven-figure income. Gretchen had told her she wanted him to feel as useless to their lives as she had felt when she saw the newspaper photos of him, bare-chested, dirty dancing with the blonde.“Come on in. We have so much to catch up on,” Gretchen said, wrapping her arms around her girls, who lovingly hugged her back. Kate was glad to see again that her sister had the family she’d always wanted, even without the guy. In fact, she was a bit envious of her sister’s happiness.“Let’s get Aunt Kate’s bags up to the room,” Gretchen said, and immediately the bevy of girls took everything and preceded Kate up the carpeted stairway to the top floor. They had moved her into Clover’s room. A poster of Justin Bieber was prominently displayed on the wall, along with some posters of her dad in a Trailblazers jersey. Kate noticed a number of ribbons and small trophies. “Way to go, Clover!” she said to her niece as she pointed at them.Clover stared at the ground and shrugged, embarrassed.“She plays basketball, but loves volleyball even more,” her mom said. Before she could stop herself, Kate blurted out, “Thank God.” The girls snickered and her sister handed her back a smirk.Kate felt the need to explain. “I was just thinking she’s her own woman. Not to be following along in her dad’s—” She realized her slip and began to shake her head, angry with herself.“Kate, best to stop digging now you’ve gotten that hole started.”“I’m sorry, Clover,” Kate said.“It happens,” she said with a shrug “I’m used to it.” Her voice wavered and Kate could see she’d hurt her feelings. She put her arm around the lanky preteen. “You’re nothing like your dad in all the wrong ways, and everything like him in all the right ones.”And that seemed to make things okay.

EXCERPT:
My body isn’t used to this much alcohol. The few glasses of wine I normally drink don’t have me in the middle of a dance “orgy” without remembering how I got there. Sweat is dripping down my neck and tickling the space between my breasts. After the third round of drinks, bought by three different men just wanting to get in my pants, I feel relaxed yet out of control. Noelle is nowhere to be found and in my drunken state I’m not even the least bit concerned about it. The music has taken over my body and I can feel myself letting go of all the stress and anxiety that Robert has caused me. I don’t care who is watching because at this moment I feel like the sexiest person in here.
With my eyes closed I rub my hands along my hips all the way to my hair, pulling it off my neck into a makeshift ponytail. The beat of the music moves through me like an electric wave. When a cool puff of air passes over the back of my neck it feels like water in the Sahara. Larger hands than I’ve ever felt before unexpectedly come around my waist and pull me back into a rock hard chest. My breathing becomes more ragged as the mystery man whispers in my ear.
“Are you hot, baby?” He asks, his hot breath sending shivers down my spine.
My senses are on high alert and despite the fact that I haven’t a clue what he looks like, those four words turn me on instantly. If his voice can do that to me I’d love to see what his enormous hands are capable of. Our bodies connect and sway to the music as his mouth continues to hover just above my shoulder causing tingles to radiate through my body. I can feel his lips grazing the crease of my neck and when he nips my skin my knees go weak. My head falls back involuntarily giving him more access to continue his sensual assault. He smells delicious, and the soft suctioning kisses he places up my neck cause me to moan in anticipation. I have to see the man who is releasing all my inhibitions.
Reluctantly I turn my heated body around feeling the loss of his soft lips, but what I’m rewarded with is a vision of godliness. Standing at what appears to be well over six feet tall is the most panty-dropping specimen that I have ever laid my eyes upon. I should have turned around sooner! His plain black t-shirt hugs every single slender muscle in his sexy ass arms. The faded blue jeans he wears are snug, even more so where his zipper lies, showing me how much he is turned on. His dark brown hair is a styled mess; short on the sides but longer up top. I can’t help but wonder what it would feel like to grab hold of it and tug. Hard. A grin flashes across his face, as if he’s read my mind, and I see a hint of just one dimple on the right side of his mouth. His green eyes appear hungry as they shamelessly take me in from my toes to my own starving eyes. I swallow hard and try to catch my breath.
“I thought you looked good from behind but damn if you don’t look heavenly from this angle,” he says loudly, over the music.
He grabs both of my hands, circling them around his neck. With our height difference my forehead falls into his chest perfectly, as if we are two pieces of a puzzle. I try to control my breathing; the alcohol is coursing through my veins now. Freeing my hands from their hold, they find their way down and softly graze over his pecs and then the ripple of his abs. They falter as they come in contact with not a six pack but, a …1,2,3,… eight pack! I see his chest rising and falling rapidly. I think he must be as turned on by me as I am by him. Impossible.

Amy Marie was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and now resides in Virginia Beach with her fantastically crazy husband and two kids.
As an avid reader, she never dreamed of writing her own novel until the characters started haunting her at night and in the shower.  Wanting to get it down on paper she set off on a journey that has been more than she could have ever dreamed.

Interview Questions:
1.      Where did the idea come from for the book?  It actually came to me leaving the gym one day. It just all the sudden consumed me wondering what someone would do in Erin’s situation.  She was dealt a crappy deal and I just felt like the story was different than those I read and I wanted to work it through. Being my debut novel I never thought that I would actually publish it but I am so glad I did! The response I’m getting is blowing me away.2.      What genre does your book fall under? Contemporary Romance. It’s 20 somethings dealing with life.3.      Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? This is a hard question because I have an idea of what Walker and Erin look like and I am never happy with who comes to mind.  If I absolutely had to choose I would pick Ryan Reynolds for Walker and maybe Emily Blunt for Erin.  Like I said, as an author you have a vision of what they look like in your head but nothing ever comes close!4.      What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? A heartbroken Erin learns to love and trust after betrayal and embraces all the unexpected things that life has to offer, giving her what she didn’t know she needed.5.      Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? Self-published6.      How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? 5 months.7.      What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? That’s a hard question. I think it’s a combination of the betrayal from Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover and the unconditional, relentless, love that Travis has for Abby in Beautiful Disaster.8.      Who or What inspired you to write this book? Honestly, I was inspired after going to Naughty Mafia in Vegas last year...all of the books I read before I attended sparked something in me and I wanted to write.  It’s an outlet and it lets my creative side out.  9.      What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?  They will love how relatable the characters are and how real to life the story is. We’ve all had our hearts broken and we all have done things that we regret but sometimes those lead to what we didn’t know we wanted. One night can change your entire life. The book has no cliff hanger but makes you salivate for book two, Undone, coming out in Oct/Nov 2014.

Troubling thoughts whirled through Rique’s mind. Why had Jonah called him and Brooks into his office? Had they violated some fine-print rule he’d missed? Had Jonah learned about his debts and Mafia troubles?
Gulping, Brooks shared a worried glance. His gait was uneven and stilted and his frame was stiff and wary.
“Are we in trouble?” Brooks whispered.
Worried about the reason for their summons, Rique forced himself to relax and not shake his head at his lover and his loose-cannon lips. As much as he was beginning to love Brooks, there was no way he could share his mob secrets.
Not only would they overly alarm Brooks, but the security team might overhear and he didn’t trust anybody.
Jonah locked the door and leisurely returned to his desk. He folded himself into his chair and looked, long and assessing, at first Brooks then Rique. Finally, he said in a smooth, debonair voice, “No. Not at all. But I wish to remind you of your contract.”
Damn! Rique gulped as they pulled up chairs across from their boss. So they were in trouble. Too late, he realized his toes were tapping fast and that his fingers were linking and unlinking, so he stilled them.
“What about the contract?” Brooks inched forward in his chair and wrung his hands in his lap as his eyes bulged.
Jonah bent over the desk then he pointed at the security cameras.
Before a word came out of Jonah’s mouth, Rique had an epiphany. As he recalled Fiona’s warning, his heart threatened to burst. “You’ve been watching us. Everything. Everywhere.”
Several seconds later, Brooks blanched and his Adam’s apple convulsed. “You saw us together. Intimately, I mean.”
Leaning closer, Jonah nodded. “Yes. You gave your signed permission, and this is my private island which means it’s governed by my rules.”
It could mean Rique’s life if he left. With his heart feeling as though it was beating in his throat, he pleaded, “Please don’t kick us out. Our love lives are our choice and should be private.”
He watched a deep flush crawl up Brooks’ neck and into his cheeks as Brooks begged.
“Please don’t hold it against us. We didn’t plan to fall in love. It just happened. We haven’t hurt anybody.”
Fall in love? Shock and wonder filled Rique. Warmth flowed through him. So Brooks felt the same way he did.
Giddiness replaced the dread born moments before.
Brooks loved him. And he loved Brooks. How could he have fallen so hard, so fast? He reached over and put his hand on Brooks’ shoulder. Then he turned and faced Jonah. “I won’t apologize for loving this wonderful man. And I won’t stop loving him. If it means we can’t be together then I’m torn whether or not I still want the position.”
He couldn’t believe he’d just said that. Damn my heart!
When Brooks squeezed his hand and tilted his chin, light refracted off his glasses and made his pupils look fractured. “Ditto. No disrespect intended, sir.”
Laughing heartily, Jonah slapped the table, causing a few sheets of papers to float to the floor.
Is the man crazy?
Blushing, Jonah gave them a shy smile. “Don’t apologize, and please call me Jonah. I loved watching you. I wanted to join you. I came as much as you did.”

Interview with Author
What would you have done differently if you were the main character of your book? I wouldn’t have become indebted to the mob so I wouldn’t have to run for my life. In fact, the last time I went to a casino I realized I wanted to keep playing to recoup my losses or to win more as I was doing so lousy, so I stopped cold turkey. I haven’t been back since.

What was your inspiration behind this book? I love watching all Gordon Ramsey’s cooking shows and I’m a Food Network addict. Also, I’ve always loved action and adventure stories, especially all the Indiana Jones movies. Conversely, I’m scared of prehistoric monsters such as alligators and crocodiles.
Why did you become a writer? I didn’t have a choice. I started writing as soon as I could read. By the time I was 6 I was writing stories and never stopped.
Do you have a favorite author or authors? Stephen King. Stephen White. Sherryl Woods. Tina Wainscott. Holly Jacobs.

Do you like to write your books in a continuing series? I have a couple of series, but most of my books are single stories. The series are Purrfect Justice and American Beauty published by Ellora’s Cave and the Bats and Balls series published by Totally Bound. If you could date any character from any book, who would it be and why? Brad Mueller from American Beauty. He’s a super sexy cop who will do anything to make a collar or win his lady.
What kinds of books do you like to read in your spare time? I love comedy romances and chick lit. I’m also a sucker for time travel stories.
As a reader and writer I think it is important to get to know your fans and make a connection with them as an author who takes the extra step to hear what their fans think and want in their continued writing is continued success and key to selling more books .Do you agree with that? Definitely! I can be contacted at chinara@aol.com, through my blog at: http://www.ashleyladd.blogspot.com, and on my facebook author page at: https://www.facebook.com/ashleyladdauthor
Do you cry when writing sad scenes? I’ve been known to do that on more than one occasion.
Did you have a Cover Designer? My publishers employ cover designers who design my covers.Who is your fictional boyfriend or girlfriend crush? Stuart Redmond in The Stand by Stephen King.
If you were able to dine and have a one on one with your favorite writer/author who would it be? Stephen King
Do just re-read your favorite books? I’ve read The Stand by Stephen King a few times. I used to re-read my favorite Harlequin and Silhouette romances a LOT when I was a teenager. I wore several of them out.

Do you ever get in a reading slump like your readers do? Yes, but not lately. Last weekend all I did was read.
